WHEN SHIFTING TO PARK AND TURNING OFF THE CAR, THE CAR WON'T TURN OFF AND AN ERROR ON DASH DISPLAYS "SHIFT TO PARK". THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CAR AND DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET. CHEVROLET CLAIMS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND REQUIRES A COST TO FIX.
THE 2017 VOLT, WHEN PUT INTO PARK, DOES NOT DETECT IT'S IN PARK AND GIVES A "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE. THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF. I CANNOT LEAVE THE CAR. I AM STUCK ROLLING THE CAR FORWARD AND BACK MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY REGISTERS IT'S IN PARK AND TURNS OFF. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTANTLY AND UNPREDICTABLY. I READ ONLINE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN AND WIDESPREAD ISSUE IN THE 2017 VOLT THAT GM IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS. THEY ARE ALSO REFUSING TO COVER IT UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGHT SHIFTING IS PART OF THE PROPULSION SYSTEM. I HAVE MISSED MEETINGS BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LEAVE MY CAR. I FEAR BEING STRANDED WITH A CAR THAT WON'T TURN OFF. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING REGULARLY BUT UNPREDICTABLY FOR ALL OF SUMMER 2020.
CAR IS NOT TURNING OFF WHEN STOPPED. DISPLAYS "ACTION REQUIRED" SHIFT TO PARK. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN AROUND AND CHEVROLET HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM.
WHEN I TURN OFF THE CAR (BY PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK AND PUSHING THE POWER BUTTON), I RECEIVE AN ERROR - 'SHIFT TO PARK'. AFTER I POWER OFF THE CAR, I GET AN ALERT ON MY DASHBOARD THAT SAYS "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK".
SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE APPEARS WHEN YOU SHIFT TO PARK AND YOU TURN OFF THE ENGINE. SO EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE IN PARK THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OFF. VERY FRUSTRATING!
SHIFT TO PARK ISSUE. WHEN I PLACE THE CARE IN PARK A WARNING COMES ON STATING 'ACTION REQUIRED' AND WON'T SHUT OFF. I HAVE TO SHIFT TO DRIVE AND BACK A FEW TIMES FOR IT TO GO OFF.
AFTER DRIVING AND WHEN STOPPED, WHEN CAR IS PLACED IN PARK, THERE IS A NOTICE ON THE DASH THAT STATES, "ACTION REQUIRED" "SHIFT TO PARK", EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR INDICATOR SHOWS THE CAR IS INDEED IN PARK. BECAUSE OF THIS, THE CAR WON'T SHUT OFF AND SENDS OUT WARNING BEEPS FROM THE HORN. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE DRIVER DOES NOT KNOW IF THE CAR IS IN PARK OR NOT, AND DOES NOT KNOW IF THE CAR IS SECURE FROM ROLLING.
MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT IS EXPERIENCING THE APPARENTLY INFAMOUS 'SHIFT TO PARK' ISSUE. NEARLY EVERY SINGLE TIME I PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT, I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND PRESS THE POWER BUTTON TO POWER DOWN THE VEHICLE. A MESSAGE POPS UP ON THE DISPLAY THAT SAYS 'ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK.' I THEN HAVE TO DEPRESS THE TRIGGER MECHANISM ON THE GEAR SHIFT AND JIGGLE THE WHOLE SHIFTER BEFORE THE CAR REGISTERS IT IS IN PARK AND POWERS DOWN PROPERLY. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM AMONG MULTIPLE CHEVY CARS BUT THEY HAVE NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL. MY CAR IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE 'BUMPER TO BUMPER' WARRANTY, SO IT WILL COST A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX AN ISSUE THAT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT MY FAULT. WHILE I AM NOT AWARE OF ANYONE HAVING ISSUES WITH SHIFTING TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN PARK, IT IS VERY CONCERNING THAT...
MUST SHIFT TO PARK; CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF. ALREADY IN PARK, AND PUSHED VERY HARD TO MAKE ELECTRICAL CONTACT. SHIFT OUT AND BACK TO PARK SEVERAL TIMES TO MAKE CONTACT AND ALLOW CAR TO SHUT OFF. AT FIRST, ONLY ONCE A WEEK, NOW ALMOST EVERY DAY.
SHIFT TO PARK PROBLEMS. ON OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT GO INTO PARK WHEN THE SHIFTER IS IN PARK. I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE TO PARK. I HAVE TO EITHER START THE CAR, SHIFT INTO DRIVE, THEN BACK TO PARK, OR I SHAKE THE SHIFTER UNTIL IT ACKNOWLEDGES THE PARK.
AFTER YOU POWER OFF YOUR CAR, YOU'LL GET AN ALERT ON YOUR DASHBOARD THAT STATES "ACTION REQUIRED" "SHIFT TO PARK". I HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON FORUMS AS SUCH. IN SOME CASES SELF RESOLVES WITH A LITTLE SHAKE IN THE SHIFTER. IN OTHER CASES TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO ENGAGE PROPERLY. THIS IS ON GOING AND SEEMS TO BE INCREASING IN FREQUENCY.
DASH BOARD DISPLAYS 'SHIFT TO PARK' ALTHOUGH THE CAR IS IN PARK ALREADY. THE ENERGY MARKER APPEARS FULL ALTHOUGH 0MILES REMAIN, AFTER 'AFTER SHIFT TO PARK' APPEARS CAR STAYS STATIONARY AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE NOR REVERSE. ENGINE DOES NOT START WHEN THE HOOD IS OPEN AND CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO LOSES POWER AND DOES NOT MOVE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AS WELL.
VEHICLE WILL NOT SHUT OFF STATING MUST SHIFT TO PARK WHEN IT IS IN PARK.
SHIFT TO PARK DEFECT. KNOWN ISSUE, MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ALREADY FILED.
WHEN I STOP THE CAR AND SHIFT TO PARK, I GET A MESSAGE ON THE CENTER CONSOLE THAT SAYS "SHIFT TO PARK" WHEN I TRY TO TURN OFF THE CAR. I HAVE TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFT HANDLE AROUND IN ORDER FOR IT TO REGISTER AS PARKED. *TR
ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK APPEARS ON THE DASH WHEN I ALREADY HAVE THE CAR IN PARK AND ATTEMPT TO SHUT IT OFF. THIS DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO TURN THE CAR OFF OR LOCK IT AND I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THE SENSOR TO READ. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I ATTEMPT TO PARK AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND CAN TAKE UP TO 20 MINUTES TO GET IT TO STOP. IT MAKES ME FEEL UNSAFE TO BE IN MY CAR WHEN THE CAR DOES NOT READ THAT IT'S PARKED CORRECTLY, ESPECIALLY IF I AM PARKED AND CAN'T GET THE CAR TO TURN OFF. *TR
WHEN MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR, BUT THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT LAG TO GET UP TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WITH THE WHEELS BEING POWERED BY THE ELECTRIC ENGINE, THE RESPONSE HAD ALWAYS BEEN INSTANT, UNTIL TODAY. AFTER ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION, I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DASH READ "SHIFT TO PARK," EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS IN PARK.I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR TO DRIVE, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE ACCELERATOR DID NOT PROPEL THE CAR AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED. I AGAIN SHIFTED TO PARK AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED THE CAR BACK UP, AND THE FUEL ENGINE TURNED ON THIS TIME, BUT I RECEIVED A MESSAGE SAYING THE CAR WAS NOT...
SHIFT ASSEMBLY MALFUNCTION. I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF BUT IT WON'T. IT STATES THAT MY CAR NEED TO BE PUT IN PARK WHEN IT ALREADY IS IN PARK. IT DOES THIS INTERMITTENTLY. MANY VOLTS AND MALIBU HAS THIS PROBLEM AND REPORTED ONLINE AND TO YOU GUYS. PLEASE HAVE GM PUT OUT A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR

MY VOLT PRODUCES AN ERROR MESSAGE: "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK" AFTER PLACING THE CAR IN PARK AND TAPPING THE POWER BUTTON. AS A RESULT, I CANNOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A SERIES OF TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF AGAIN WHILST SHIFTING BACK AND FORTH FROM DRIVE TO PARK. I'VE FOUND NUMEROUS REPORTS ONLINE THAT THE ISSUES STEMS FROM A KNOWN PROBLEM INVOLVING THE SHIFT ASSEMBLY BUT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT CHARGING A $160 DIAGNOSTICS FEE THAT MAY INCREASE BASED ON THE ISSUES AT HAND, WHICH I DECLINED. THE DEALERSHIP KNOWS WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BUT REQUIRES ME TO PAY AN $145 INSPECTION FEE JUST TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM.

THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON EVENT FOR VOLT 2017 AND EARLIER AND OTHER CHEVY MODELS AND NEEDS A RECALL. I HAD TO LEAVE CAR RUNNING ON TWO OCCASIONS.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CAPITOL CHEVROLET (905 CAPITOL EXPRESSWAY AUTO MALL, SAN JOSE, CA 95136) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE EXPERIENCED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.

AFTER I SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND PRESS THE BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR, A WARNING COMES UP AND SAYS "SHIFT TO PARK." I CANNOT TURN OFF THE CAR UNTIL THE MESSAGE CLEARS. THE MESSAGE IS CLEARED BY GIGGLING THE SHIFTER (ALREADY IN PARK) BACK AND FORTH. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I TURN OFF THE CAR NOW. AFTER A SHORT GOOGLE SEARCH, MANY OTHER 2017 OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. PLEASE LOOK INTO ISSUING A RECALL.

THE BATTERY CONTROL MODULE FAILED IN MY VOLT ON 12/22/2019. MY CAR WAS DIAGNOSED AS SUCH ON 12/23/19 AND I WAS SENT HOME WITH IT TO WAIT AS GM PARTS ARE ALLEGEDLY SEVERELY DELAYED DUE TO THE UNION STRIKES THAT OCCURRED MONTHS AGO. I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY SAFE TO DRIVE. WHILE ON MY WAY HOME, AND DRIVING AT 40MPH IN THE LEFT LANE OF A FOUR LANE SURFACE ROAD, I LOST ALL PROPULSION POWER AND RECEIVED A MESSAGE READING 'ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK' ON THE DIC ACCOMPANIED BY A WARNING CHIME. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO NOT BE REAR ENDED AS THE CAR DECELERATED VERY QUICKLY WITHOUT MUCH WARNING. THE CAR WAS CLEARLY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TOW TRUCK DID NOT RETRIEVE THE CAR UNTIL 12/30/19 AS THE DEALER FAILED TO RETURN MY CALLS ABOUT...
AFTER YOU POWER OFF MY CAR, I'LL GET AN ALERT ON MY DASHBOARD THAT SAYS, " ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK" THE CAR WILL EFFECTIVELY NOT TURN OFF. I'LL BE UNABLE TO LOCK THE CAR AND THE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON FOR A FEW MINUTES. WORSE YET, IT IS INTERMITTENT.
BECM FAILURE AT 32,000 MILES. CAR WOULD NOT CHARGE AND WOULD REPORT EV RANGE AS 0 WHEN IT IN FACT DID HAVE RANGE. THE CAR ALSO WOULD NOT MOVE/START RELIABLY LEAVING THE CHANGE OF BEING STRANDED SOMEWHERE BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY COMPUTER. THE DEALER TRIED TO FIX THE SOFTWARE ON THE BECM BUT IT ENDED UP BEING A FAILED BECM. IT SEEMS VERY COMMON FOR THIS TO FAIL FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ONLINE. THE DEALER FIXED THE ISSUE UNDER THE VOLTEC WARRANTY AND I HAVE NOT HAD AN ISSUE IN 4+ MONTHS. THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY A BAD BATCH OR ENGINEERING DEFECT ON THE STOCK BECM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GAS ENGINE TURNED ON WHILE THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BATTERY RANGE LEFT. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE DOWNHILL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE GEAR INTO DRIVE; HOWEVER, THE GEAR SHIFTER DID NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE. INSTEAD, THE GEAR SHIFTER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALLEN GWYNN CHEVROLET (LOCATED AT 1400 S BRAND BLVD, GLENDALE, CA 91205, 818-528-8597) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED....
WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, WITH THE SHIFT SET TO "P", I GET A MESSAGE THAT APPEARS, "ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK", AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF. I WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES, SOMETIMES ROUGHLY 6-7 TIMES AND SOMETIMES I WOULD HAVE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN D, N, R, ETC. I HAD MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP (VAN GMC/CHEVROLET) AND THEY REPLACED THE SHIFTER HARNESS WHICH WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. MY VOLT IS CONTINUING TO FLASH THE 'ACTION REQUIRED/SHIFT TO PARK' MESSAGE AND HESITATES TO TURN OFF AND THEN POWERS DOWN.
SHIFT-TO-PARK ALERT AFTER YOU POWER DOWN CAR. EFFECTLVELY, THE CAR WON'T TURN OFF. BROUGHT TO GM IN 2018 AND THEY REPLACED THE SHIFTER. 18 MONTHS LATER, THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. APPEARS TO BE A CHRONIC DEFECT IN THE 2ND GEN VOLT.
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY SURFACE STREET THE VEHICLE LOST ALL PROPULSION AND STALLED. STEERING LOCKED UP, WAS DISABLED, AND ELECTRIC POWER STOPPED. THE WARNING LIGHT READ "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK'. THIS STALL IS IMMEDIATE AND HIGHLY DANGEROUS. I WAS ABLE TO GLIDE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT BEING IN OR CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE ORANGE ENGINE SYMBOL WAS ILLUMINATED. ALL SYSTEMS SHUT DOWN ON THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHEVY DEALERSHIP BUT WE WERE UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE OR SHIFT IT IN NEUTRAL. THE CAR START BUTTON WOULD NOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO BE TOWED RUNNING AND THE BATTERY DISABLED AT THE DEALERSHIP.
WHILE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF PROPULSION AND THE WARNING DISPLAYED "PROPULSION POWER REDUCED".THIS LOSS OF POWER OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE SWITCHED FROM ELECTRIC TO GAS POWER. I HAVE EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE SWITCHING FROM ELECTRIC TO GAS REGULARLY AND IT SPUTTERS AND BUCKS. AFTER A FEW MILES THE SPUTTERING AND ROUGH CHANGE TO GAS WILL DISSIPATE. ON THIS OCCASION THE POWER LOSS WAS SIGNIFICANT AND DANGEROUS. I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE POWER OR PROPULSION TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO DIVERT TO CITY STREETS AND GET HOME AT SPEEDS UNDER 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED BY MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND OUT OF SERVICE FOR 18 DAYS WITH APPROXIMATELY 250 MILES OF ROAD TESTING WHILE IN SERVICE. I NO LONGER BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE TO BE SAFE OR RELIABLE AND AM ENGAGED IN ARBITRATION...
THE "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND ALREADY IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF IF IT BELIEVES IT TO BE IN ANY OTHER GEAR OTHER THAN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THE SHIFTER CONTROL AND TRANSMISSION CONTROLS WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF SERVICE FOR 18 DAYS AND ROAD TESTED FOR OVER 250 MILES BY THE TECHNICIANS. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND UNRELIABLE. I AM IN ARBITRATION WITH GM UNDER THE CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW AND AM REQUESTING A VEHICLE BUYBACK.
ON MY 2ND DAY OF OWNERSHIP WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 50 MILES ON IT THE VEHICLE STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE 5 (4 LANE HIGHWAY) THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING AND LOST ALL PROPULSION AND FORWARD POWER. THE VEHICLE HAD JUST CHANGED FROM ELECTRIC POWER TO GAS POWER. THE WARNING MESSAGE DISPLAYED WAS "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK". THE ORANGE ENGINE SYMBOL WAS DISPLAYED. THEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, ALL DISPLAYS AND CONTROLS WERE TURNED OFF. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MOVE FROM THE 2ND TO FAR RIGHT LANE OF 4 AND GET JUST OFF THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS JUST ENOUGH SPACE TO GLIDE THE VEHICLE TO A STOP OFF THE HIGHWAY. HOWEVER, THE I5 IS THE PRIMARY TRUCKING ROUTE AND IN THIS UPHILL LOCATION ALL SEMI TRUCKS ARE REQUIRED TO DRIVE IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE. MY VEHICLE...

RECENTLY WHEN I STOP AND TURN OFF THE CAR VIA THE DASH PUSH BUTTON SOMETIMES(BUT NOT ALWAYS) THE CONSOLE SAYS "ACTION REQUIRED. SHIFT INTO PARK" EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS ALREADY IN PARK. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY, AND DOES NOT SEEM TO BE RELATED TO WHETHER THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN IN PARK, OR HOW VIGOROUSLY THE LEVER WAS SHIFTED TO PARK. 2017 CHEVY VOLT PREMIUM WITH 45,500 MILES WITH FULL ELECTRICAL CHARGE AND 3/4 TANK OF GAS. ON FRIDAY, 08/09/2019 I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE VEHICLE IN DRIVEWAY IN A,M, HOURS. HAD A COMPLETE SWAP OF TRANSMISSION WITH ONLY 5 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER ON HIGHWAY IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.
