WHEN VEHICLE RUNS OUT OF GAS AND ONLY HAS BATTERY POWER (NO MATTER THE CHARGE) THE CAR GOES INTO REDUCED POWER MODE WHICH IS DANGEROUS IN ANY TRAFFIC ESPECIALLY INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS!!! THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU RUN OF GAS!! ALSO THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE NOT WORKING ALL THE TIME AND DISENGAGES BY ITS SELF FOR NO REASON(LIKE NOTHING IN FRONT OF YOU)!!
I WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH THEN ALL THE SUDDEN I GOT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ONE AND MESSAGE "ACTION REQUIRED, SHIFT TO PARK", I NOTICED THE DOOR UNLOCKED BY ITSELF AND THE CAR STARTING TO LOSE PROPULSION, I GLIDED OFF THE FREEWAY AND STOPPED AT THE END OF OFF RAMP DUE TO RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, THEN THE CAR CAN NOT START AGAIN. AFTER TOW TRUCK CAME, THE CAR STARTED AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. DEALER FOUND TWO ERROR CODES IN THE HISTORY P0AC4 AND P0604. ALTHOUGH THE CAR IS WORKING FINE AT THIS MOMENT AND SEEMS LIKE IT WAS JUST SOME SORT OF COMPUTER CRASH, HOWEVER IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO LOSE PROPULSION ON THE FREEWAY AND STUCK ON A HEAVY TRAFFIC OFF RAMP.
WHILE DRIVING MY 3 YEAR OLD SON TO SCHOOL MY VOLT LOST PROPULSION WHILE SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT. THE CAR DISPLAYED A "LOSS OF PROPULSION" WARNING AND WITHIN 3 SECONDS MY CAR HAD NO POWER AND WAS DEAD IN THE ROAD. THE VOLT IS A HYBRID AND IT LOST PROPULSION WHILE IN ELECTRIC MODE. AFTER THE CAR STOPPED I TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND ON AND I TRIED TO FORCE IT TO RUN IN GAS ENGINE MODE BUT NOTHING WORKED. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHERE IT TOOK 31 DAYS TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR. GM WAS CALLED IN TO HELP DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. IN THE VOLT THE TRANSMISSION ALSO CONTAINS TWO DRIVE MOTORS.
NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10113301: WHILE DRIVING 1 MONTH OLD CAR WITH 1000 MILES ON FREEWAY, CAR SUDDENLY STALLED. THIS CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED AND HAD TO CROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH NO PROPULSION. GM ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AS AN ISSUE IN JANUARY 2017 AND AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2017 WITH REVISED NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10123263. WHY IS GM ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO SELL THESE VEHICLES WITH SUCH A DANGEROUS ISSUE WITHOUT REPAIRING THEM PRIOR TO SELLING TO AN UNKNOWING CONSUMER? THEY COMMITTED FRAUD, NEGLIGENCE, AND MISREPRESENTED THEIR PRODUCT WHEN KNOWINGLY SOLD A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. THE DEALER REFUSES TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK AND TO REFUND ANY MONEY PAID.
THE CAR WILL GO BACKWARDS WHILE IN PARK, SPECIALLY WHEN THE BATTERY IS DEPLETED. LATE AT NIGHT I HAD PARKED THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET GOT OUT AND WAS GOING TO MOVE A TRASH CAN OUT OF THE WAY WHEN THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. I TRIED TO STOP IT BUT COULD NOT SO I HAD TO JUMP IN AND PUT ON THE BRAKES JUST IN TIME BEFORE IT HIT THE NEIGHBORS CAR. I GOT A BRUISE ON MY KNEE TRYING TO GET IN TO THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM AND VIDEO TAPE IT AS PROOF. GM ENGINEERING HAD SOMEONE COME OUT FROM RAYTHEON AND CHECK OUT THE CAR AND HE ALONG WITH THE MECHANIC AT MOSS BROTHERS CHEVY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM, AND THEY WANTED THE CAR BACK AT GM TO RUN FURTHER TESTS ON...
WE'VE HAD A TOTAL OF THREE CHEVY VOLTS. TWO HAVE BEEN GREAT, BUT THE 2017 VOLT WE GOT IN FEBRUARY 2017 HAS BEEN AWFUL -- THE CAR COMPLETELY LOSES POWER WITHOUT WARNING. IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING, BOTH ON THE FREEWAY AND SURFACE STREETS. AND JUST TO CLARIFY, I DON'T MEAN THE CAR WAS OUT OF ELECTRICITY OR OUT OF GAS (EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED, THE CAR HAD BOTH). WE WILL BE DRIVING ALONG WHEN, OUT OF THE BLUE, THE CAR SIMPLY JUST STOPS RUNNING, LEAVING US TO DO OUR BEST TO GET IT OUT OF THE ROADWAY WITHOUT GETTING HIT. THE CAR (WHICH ONLY HAS ABOUT 1,000 MILES ON IT) HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW. WE HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED BY HOW BOTH GM AND THE DEALER HAVE BEEN HANDLING THE SITUATION.
WE BOUGHT A NEW 2017 CHEVY VOLT AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2016 AND HAD OUR FIRST ISSUE IN EARLY FEBRUARY 2017. WHAT HAPPENED THAT FIRST TIME WAS ON (2/3/2017) WHILE DRIVING THROUGH TRAFFIC THE CAR WITHOUT WARNING TURNED OFF THE ELECTRIC WHEEL MOTORS AND WOULD NOT ALLOW US TO POWER THE CAR PROPERLY TO GET THE CAR TO THE BERM. WE WERE NEARLY WERE HIT TWICE WHILE TRYING TO STEER THE CAR OFF OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AS IT DECELERATED. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED AN NEEDED TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE CAR FOR A WEEK THEY RETURNED IT WITH THE EXPLANATION THAT THE CAR NEEDED TO DO SOFTWARE UPDATES AND THEY WERE TOO LARGE TO DO OVER THE CAR'S SATELLITE SYSTEM ' BUT THEY NEVER GAVE US ANY INDICATION OF HOW WE WOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE NEED FOR SUCH AN UPDATE....
WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN CAR (WITH ~2500 MILES ON IT) JUST SHUT OFF, LUCKILY ON A SIDE STREET AFTER CROSSING A BUSY HIGHWAY. I DROVE TO MEET HER AND CALLED ONSTAR. IT WAS IN THE "SHIFT TO PARK" MODE. THEY CONNECTED ME WITH THE VOLT SUPPORT TEAM. THEY DETERMINED IT HAD SOMEHOW GOT INTO SERVICE MODE AND THEY TALKED ME THOUGH GETTING IT OUT OF THAT. I DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. IT SEEMED FINE FOR A FEW MILES BUT IT STARTED DISPLAYING REDUCED PROPULSION POWER AND DIED AGAIN ABOUT 100YDS AWAY FROM THE DEALER, AFTER I HAD JUST PULLED ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY. I TRIED THE TECHNIQUE TO GET IT OUT OF SERVICE MODE, BUT IT DID NOT WORK THIS TIME AND HAD TO CALL FOR A TOW (AND POLICE DETAIL SO I WOULDN'T GET REAR-ENDED). THE DEALER REPAIRED THE CAR AND SAID...
I WAS DRIVING MY 2 MONTH OLD CAR WITH ~2300 MILES ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AT ~ 65 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR LOSES POWER AND THE PANEL READS "SHIFT TO PARK". LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE CAR (STEERING WAS STILL IN TACT) WITH THE REMAINING SPEED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. HOWEVER, HAD THE HIGHWAY BEEN BUSIER OR IF I HAD BEEN ON THE FAR LEFT LANE, I DON'T THINK I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE IT AND WOULD HAVE CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. ON THE VOLT FORUM, OTHERS HAVE ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. THE REPAIR, THOUGH COVERED, TOOK 3+ WEEKS AT THE DEALERSHIP. FROM DEALER PRINTOUT "INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PRIME NOTOR(SIC) INTERNAL FAILURE P03AF DRIVE MOTOR REMOVE AND REPLACE WITH SRTA SRTA UNIT".
