The internal components of the tailgate are damaged by water and need to be replaced. They cause the tailgate to open and close randomly. This could cause items to fall from the truck bed on to the road.
It is a very well known issue with these make and model trucks, ( 19-current Silverado 1500,2500,3500) that the eurethane on the back glass and the back glass track/frame cracks and leaks water causing an unsafe environment inside the vehicle if not caught. There is little to no visible evidence this occurs unless you really look and or take apart the headliner and rear spoiler on the cab to search for this issue. Water intrusion into the cab of the vehicle can build mold / mildew and cause a severe health issue for occupants inside the vehicle. Gm has a TSB out on this issue and I believe it should be a recall as there are thousands of trucks out there with this issue risking a respiratory issue to those inside the vehicle.
I was in an accident where a drunk driver pulled out in front of me. I waw traveling at 55 and he drive in front of me without stopping from a side road. I swerved to miss him while applying the brakes. We collided I hit him with the driver front fender, where it crushes the fender and started peeling the driver door back. After the impact I continued through a ditch up onto a hill and struck a tree around 6" in diameter. I believe I was doing 40-50 when I struck the other vehicle and 25 when I struck the tree. The air bags did not deploy.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that the tailgate occasionally opened and closed independently. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the tailgate switch needed to be replaced. The contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and a case was opened. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
The vehicle was in a collision that occurred to the front of the vehicle causing the seat belts to lock up a burst of compressed air to come from the dash, the hazards to engage and the dome lights to engage, the vehicle then was taken into get repaired at a certified dealership, after dealing with the dealership and General Motors we find out the sensor did engage for the airbags to deploy but the airbags failed to deploy properly or break through the dash, the dealership and manufacturer are now not wanting to find out why this is doing this and just put a new airbag baffle in and call it a day.
