ALL DOOR LOCKS HAVE STOPPED WORKING. THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH THE REMOTE OR WITH THE INSIDE LOCK BUTTONS ON THE INTERIOR DOOR. EACH DOOR HAS TO BE MANUALLY LOCKED AND UNLOCKED. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN GEAR, THE DOORS WOULD AUTOMATICALLY LOCK. THE DOORS EACH HAVE TO BE MANUALLY LOCKED AND UNLOCKED. THE ONLY KEYHOLE ON THE CAR IS ON THE DRIVERS DOOR TO UNLOCK THE CAR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET FOR THE YEAR MODELS 2008 AND 2009. THE PARTS ALONE ARE $450 TO $1,000. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE: 1. THE DOORS NO LONGER AUTOMATICALLY LOCK WHEN THE CAR IS PLACED IN GEAR. AUTOMATIC LOCKS WERE MOST LIKELY LISTED ON THE WINDOW STICKER. 2. IF A CHILD IS LOCKED IN THE CAR, THE DOOR WILL NOT...

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
THE BACK DOORS AND THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WILL ONLY LOCK AND UNLOCK MANUALLY. *TR
ALL FOUR DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING FROM THE DRIVER DOOR CONTROL OR THE FOB. THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOORS IS TO PHYSICALLY PULL UP ON THE LOCK. IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, I WILL BE UNABLE TO UNLOCK ANY OF THE DOORS WITHOUT PHYSICALLY PULLING THE DOOR LOCK. THIS CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE CAR MAY SUDDENLY STOP WORKING. I'M AFRAID I WILL BE KILLED WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR! THE CAR DOES NOT STAY IN ALIGNMENT. PICKING UP GRAND CHILDREN AT CURBSIDE FROM SCHOOL THE DOORS FAIL TO UNLOCK CAUSING ME TO GO OUT IN TRAFFIC GET IN THE CAR AND START IT IN ORDER TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS SO THAT THE KIDS CAN UNLOCK THE DOORS MANUALLY THAT IS IF THEY ARE NOT DISTRACTED BY SOMETHING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT A 4, 6 AND 7 YEAR OLD WILL DO. ALSO THE CHILD SAFETY LOCK FEATURE DOESN'T WORK WHEN CAR IS PUT IN DRIVE. *TR

THE ONLY WAY TO PHYSICALLY UNLOCK THE DOOR IS TO RECLINE THE DRIVERS SEAT AND REACH BACK AND UNLOCK THE DOOR MANUALLY. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY THIS IS B.S. I HAVE DONE MUCH RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET ON THIS SUBJECT AND WAS OVERWHELMED BY THE NUMBER OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS SO DISTURBING! IT MAKES TRANSPORTING MY CHILDREN DIFFICULT AND UNSAFE. IF THERE WERE TO BE AN ACCIDENT, THE CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT ARE NOT LIKELY TO HAVE THE MENTAL CAPACITY TO REMEMBER TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WHICH COULD LEAD TO FURTHER INJURY OR DEATH. WIRING HARNESS IN THE CENTER CONSOLE IS POORLY DESIGNED AND LOCATED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE WIRING BREAKS AND MAKING IT SO ELECTRICAL SAFETY DEVICES DO NOT DISENGAGE THUS NOT LETTING THE KEY BE REMOVED, THE VEHICLE NOT BEING ABLE TO SHIFT FROM PARK, AND OTHER FAILURES YET TO BE IDENTIFIED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ACTUATORS AND COMPUTERS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WE ARE GETTING READY TO HAVE TO REPLACE OUR THIRD SET OF TIRES. WE BOUGHT OUR IMPALA NEW AND REPLACED OUR FIRST SET OF TIRES AT FEB. 2010 (38,000 MILES). REPLACED AGAIN AT 54,000 MILES DEC. 2011. REPLACED AGAIN AT 65,000 NOV. OF 2012 AND IT IS IN NEED OT NEW REAR TIRES AGAIN AT 72,000. CAR SHAKES AND BACK END SLIDES IN BAD WEATHER. SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATES THAT IT NEEDS A CAMBOR KIT. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT CHEVROLET PRODUCED A FAULTY SUSPENSION ROD AND RECALLED "POLICE OWNED" VEHICLES BUT NOT CONSUMER VEHICLES. DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN VEHICLE OR ALLOWING MY 16 YEAR OLD TO DRIVE IT. MY CAR IS ALIGNED AND TIRES ROTATED AND SERVICED FREQUENTLY! TIRES WEAR DOWN TO METAL STICKING OUT OF TIRES AND INNER WEAR IS INCREDIBLE. LEFT TIRE BEHIND THE DRIVER IS THE QUICKEST TO HAVE PROBLEMS AND BEGIN TO CAUSE CAR TO SHAKE....

I WAS ADVISED BY LOCAL GM DEALER THAT THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A SAFETY RECALL, EVEN THOUGH IT INVOLVED PASSENGERS WHO WOULD BE RIDING IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE WE CARRY OUR SMALL GRANDCHILDREN IN THEIR CAR SEATS IN THE BACK. THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOORS IS TO ROLL DOWN THE POWER WINDOW AND REACH IN TO UNLOCK. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS WITH CHEVROLET BUT THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO REPORTS OF OTHERS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS HARD TO BELIEVE SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY REPORTS OF THIS ON THE INTERNET FORUMS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IN AN ACCIDENT, THE REAR WINDOWS MAY NOT FUNCTION AND WE WOULD HAVE TO BREAK OUT THE REAR WINDOWS TO FREE OUR GRANDCHILDREN. *TR
BOTH REAR POWER DOOR LOCKS HAVE FAILED. THEY ARE INOPERABLE FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS CAUSED AN UNSAFE CONDITION FOR THE PASSENGERS IN THE REAR SEATS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IN A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2008 IMPALAS. CHEVROLET IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT HAS NOT STARTED A RECALL TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. *TR
THE REAR LOCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK WHEN THE CAR IS SWITCHED OUT OF GEAR OR WHEN USING THE BUTTON ON THE KEY CONTROL. BASED ON INFORMATION IN THE INTERNET IT IS CAUSED BY A TYPE OF GREASE THAT BLEEDS INTO THE LATCH ACTUATOR AND HAPPENS FREQUENTLY TO THE 2008 CHEVY IMPALAS. THIS REPRESENTS A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WHERE A BABY, CHILD OR ADULT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE QUICKLY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ONLY DOOR THAT WOULD LOCK WAS THE FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DOOR ACTUATORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
THE POWER DOOR LOCK FOR THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPERATE. IT CAN ONLY BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED MANUALLY. THIS BECOMES A REAL PROBLEM WHEN I HAVE MY GRANDCHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT. *TR

THE REPAIRS COST WAS $300 AND THE DEALER AGREED TO PAY HALF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ONLY ADVISED HER TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
USING FOB OR LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTONS, THE DOOR LOCKS RANDOMLY DO NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK. IT WAS CHECKED, BUT NO SOLUTION OFFERED. WITH THE BACK DOOR LOCKS BEING AT THE BACK OF THE DOOR, THIS IS A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE AND CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ELDERLY AND DISABLED INDIVIDUALS. IT IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN YOU ASSUME THE DOORS ARE LOCKED (OR UNLOCKED), BUT THEY AREN'T. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WAS BY CRAWLING OVER THE REAR SEAT AND MANUALLY UNLOCKING THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE. I AM GETTING MY FOURTH SET OF TIRES ON MY 2008 IMPALA, WITH 70,000 MILES I HAVE BEEN TOLD EVERYTHING FROM NOT ROTATING MY TIRE WHICH I DO EVERY 6,000 MILES TO ALIGNMENT WHICH HAS BEEN DONE THREE TIMES, , I ALSO HAVE NO POWER STEERING RANDOMLY AT LOW SPEEDS, ALSO REAR DOOR LOCKS DON'T WORK ANY MORE, ALSO WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND I CAN'T GO FORWARD AND THEN IT ALL OF A SUDDEN WILL MOVE, THAT'S ON DRY PAVEMENT. *TR
THE REAR DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT OPERATE VIA THE ELECTRICAL. THIS I BELIEVE CAUSES A HAZARD FOR A REAR SEAT PASSENGER ESPECIALLY AN INFANT OR YOUNG CHILD. THEY COULD BE TRAPPED BY THE IN-ABILITY OF THE DRIVER TO ACTIVATE THE REAR DOOR LOCKS TO EVACUATE THE REAR SEAT PASSENGERS IN AN EMERGENCY. *TR
FAILURE OF POWER DOOR LOCKS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE SECURE, THE DOORS MUST BE LOCKED. IF A CHILD, INFANT OR DISABLED PERSON WOULD BE IN THE BACK SEAT AND NEEDED TO GET OUT IN AN EMERGENCY, THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE WITHOUT SOMEONE FIRST CLIMBING THROUGH THE SEATS FROM THE FRONT AND REACHING WAY BACK TO THE BACK OF THE DOOR TO UNLOCK IT MANUALLY OR BREAKING THE WINDOW. THIS TAKES TIME AND COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO A PASSENGER. DEAR SIR OR MADAM, THIS PAST WEEK WE COMPLETED A PURCHASE OF A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA FORM A LOCAL DEALER IN ARNOLD, MISSOURI. IT IS A MODEL LT-1.
