AT LOW SPEEDS, MY BUICK ENCLAVE MAKES NOISE WHEN TURNING AND HAS FAILED ON TWO OCCASIONS. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS BUT NO RECALL. PEOPLE WILL GET HURT OR KILLED DUE TO STEERING FAILURE. MY CAR IS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT. *TR
1. WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE ENTERED "REDUCED POWER MODE" MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN SPEED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS DRIVER LOSES ABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED WHILE TRAVELING WITH FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND WITH REDUCED ENGINE POWER, EVEN THE ABILITY TO PULL OUT OF THE LANE OF TRAVEL IS IMPAIRED. DEALER IDENTIFIED BAD THROTTLE BODY AS CAUSE AND REPLACED. 2. POWER STEERING PUMP FAILURE. ISSUE WAS IDENTIFIED DUE TO WHINING NOISE PRIOR TO COMPLETE FAILURE. HAD PUMP FAILED COMPLETELY, DRIVER COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL WITH POWER ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE WHILE DRIVING. PUMP WAS REPLACED AND NECESSARY ASSOCIATED REPAIRS MADE BY DEALER. *TR
IN THE COURSE OF ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION AND TENDING TO RECALL ISSUES, WAS TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS LEAKING. HAD NOT NOTICED ANY PROBLEM WITH IT. BECAUSE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE GOT REPAIR DONE; WARRANTY EXPIRED (OF COURSE) SO ENDED UP PAYING $1400 FOR REPLACING POWER STEERING RACK (INCLUDING 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT). CONTACTED GM AND THEY DID PARTIALLY REIMBURSE UNDER "SPECIAL COVERAGE". THAT SEEMED PRETTY DECENT OF THEM BUT NOT SO SURE NOW IN LIGHT OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS LISTED RE POWER STEERING IN THE ENCLAVE IN GENERAL AND THE 2010 ENCLAVE IN PARTICULAR. THERE CLEARLY IS AN ISSUE WITH 2010 ENCLAVES (AND MAYBE ACADIAS AND TRAVERSES) AND THE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BUICK ENCLAVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MAKING A TURN, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE WHEN INTO MANUAL STEERING. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED AN UNKNOWN SPECIAL COVERAGE NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. UPDATED 1/16/15*CN THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED. 01/20/15. *JB
VEHICLE POWER STEERING FAILS AT SLOW SPEEDS/ MOST PREVEAENT WHEN TURNING, PARKING AND ETC. VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
WENT TO DEALER FOR SERVICE WAS TOLD STEERING RACK WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ASKED ABOUT RECALLS FOR THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THEIR WERE NONE. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR. RETURNED HOME TO FIND A NOTICE NOT A RECALL IN THE MAIL FROM GM ABOUT MY ISSUE. MY CONDITION IS CLEARLY ASSOCIATED WITH A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT IDENTIFIED BY GM. THIS IS AN ADMITTED URGENT SAFETY CONDITION AND GM NEEDS TO REPAIR THESE VEHICLES UNDER A MANDATORY RECALL CAMPAIGN AND NOT TRY AND FIND A WAY TO NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR IN HEAVY SUBURBAN TRAFFIC AND THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ON A VEHICLE OF THIS SIZE AND WEIGHT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONDITION THAT CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR A LOSS OF LIFE. *TR
AT LOW SPEEDS AS IN TRYING TO PARK OR WAITING TO MAKE A TURN FROM THE STOPPED POSITION, THE STEERING BECOMES VERY STIFF. IT FEELS AS THE POWER STEERING HAS STOPPED WORKING AND IS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. *TR

TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. EVERY TIME WE SLOW TO ABOUT 5 MPH OR LESS TO MAKE TURNS AT CORNERS, STOP SIGNS OR CURVES WE LOOSE OUR POWER STEERING. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PARK VEHICLE OR NAVIGATE PARKING LOTS. VERY UNSAFE WHEN OTHER VEHICLES OR PEDESTRIANS ARE IN THE PROXIMITY. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS 4 YEARS OLD 58,000 MILES, STARTED FEELING RESISTANCE WHEN TURNING AND AN SCREECHING SOUND. THE RACK AND PINION NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1500.00. FOUND OUT THIS IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE OVER 100 COMPLAINTS. WHERE DOES A SINGLE MOTHER OF 2 GET THE MONEY TO REPLACE SOMETHING THAT SEEMS TO BE FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE GMC DEALER WILL NOT ASSIST IN A PRICE REDUCTION, IF THIS IS NOT REPLACE THE CAR CAN STALL WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, OR FATALITY. *TR
WE WERE ON A LONG TRIP FROM WA. STATE TO EL CENTRO, CA. APPROXIMATELY 100 + MILES FROM EL CENTRO, WHEN WE WERE SLOWING TO GO INTO A SERVICE STATION, I NOTICED I HAD NO POWER STEERING AND HAD TO MANUALLY STEER IT WHICH WAS VERY DIFFICULT. I TRIED TO PUT SOME PS FLUID IN IT, BUT COULDN'T GET THE ENGINE COVER OFF TO FIND THE PS HOLDER, SO HAD TO DRIVE ON INTO EL CENTRO AND LOCATE A DEALERSHIP THERE. THEY CHECKED IT AND INFORMED US THAT A NEW RACK & PINION UNIT, ETC. WAS NEEDED AT THAT TIME. OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS OUT AT THAT TIME, SO IT COST US APPROX. $2,000 + TO GET IT REPAIRED AND THEN THE WHEELS BALANCED, ETC. WE COULD HAVE HAD A CRASH AT HIGH SPEEDS PRIOR TO HAVING IT CHECKED AS WE WERE ON A LONG TRIP. WE DID GET IT...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BUICK ENCLAVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER HAD TO PLACE FORCE ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE ABLE TO TURN AND KEEP THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I WAS EXPERIENCING RUBBING AND RESISTANCE WHEN MAKING TURNS AT SLOW SPEEDS. I WAS DRIVING WITH 6 KIDS IN MY CAR AND WAS TURNING LEFT ACROSS A MAJOR STREET AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED AS I ENTERED ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TURNED. GOT HOME AND CHECKED THE STEERING FLUID WAS EMPTY. I REFILLED THE STEERING FLUID AND IT BEGAN LEAKING. TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND THEY FOUND THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ($1,000) AND THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE BOOTS GETTING WET FROM SOME STEERING FLUID, BUT MY VEHICLE THE STEERING FLUID LEAKED SO BADLY THAT THE STEERING FLUID NEEDED TO BE REFILLED DAILY. THE STEERING COMPONENTS IN THIS VEHICLE ARE FAULTY AND CREATING VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE THERE ARE MANY MANY COMPLAINTS FROM CUSTOMERS ON SIMILAR DANGEROUS SITUATIONS OF THEM TURNING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC...
THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ISSUES SINCE PURCHASED WITH BRAKES AND POWER STEERING I CONTACTED BUICK AND THE DEALER WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND AS OF 9/8/2014 THE BRAKES WERE THE ONLY ONES FIXED BUT POWER STEERING STILL AND ISSUE I HAVE CONTACTED BUICK FOUR TIMES SINCE MARCH AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO HELP ME AND FIX THIS PROBLEM THEY ARE CLAIMING THAT IT IS A WORKMANSHIP ISSUE AND NOT A MANUFACTURER ISSUE BASED ON VEHICLE HISTORY THIS VEHICLE IS VERY CLEAN AND NO ACCIDENTS BUT I AM STARTING TO DOUBT THAT BECAUSE POWER STEERING GETS HARD AT ABOUT 15 TO 35 MILES AND ALSO AT 45 TO 55 WHEN EXITING A HIGHWAY BRAMP VERY DANGEROUS VEHICLE TO DRIVE AROUND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BUICK ENCLAVES TO ANYONE BECAUSE BUICK OR DEALERS GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND WHEN YOU LET THEM KNOW ABOUT ISSUE... *TR
SLOWED TO TURN RIGHT ON A GREEN LIGHT. AS I SLOWED DURING THE TURN, THE POWER STEERING FAILED NOT ALLOWING ME TO TURN THE WHEEL. I WAS FORCED TO VEER INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC FROM THE CROSS STREET MISSING ANOTHER VEHICLE COMING AT ME BY A FEW SECONDS. SEEMS LIKE THE EXACT RECALL GM RECALLED IN APRIL 2014 EXCEPT MY POWER STEERING IS HYDRAULIC NOT ELECTRONIC. *TR
STEERING LOCKS UP AND LOW RPM, AS IF POWER STEERING "DIES" AND WHEELS ARE EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN UPON DECELERATION AND/OR LOW SPEED. *TR
AT LOW SPEEDS, THE STEERING ASSIST FREEZES THE STEERING MOMENTARILY SO THAT THE DRIVER LOSES CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR HAS BEEN CONFIRMED FULL, NO LEAKS. ISSUE WAS INTERMITTENT, AND NOW OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. *TR
WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE STEERING WOULD LOCK UP WHEN TURNING. A TEST DRIVE BY MY MECHANIC RESULTED IN A NEW STEERING GEAR 36R0450. WHEN I RESEARCHED STEERING PROBLEMS ON THE 2010 BUICK ENCLAVE, I FOUND A LOT OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE STEERING PROBLEMS ON THE 2010 BUICK ENCLAVE. MY MECHANIC SAID THIS NEEDED IMMEDIATE REPAIR BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY ITEM. I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS TO BE A FORMAL GM RECALL. *TR
OUR CAR HAS NOISY POWER STEERING WHEEL, HARD TO TURN. WENT TO DEALER ON 08/02/14 AND WAS TOLD THAT WE NEED A NEW STEERING GEAR BECAUSE OF LEAKING AND THAT WILL COST 2100. OUR CAR ONLY HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT!!!. THIS IS MANUFACTURER DEFECTIVE AND IT IS NOT COVERED BY FACTORY WARRANTY. THIS IS NOT CHEAP CAR, GM SHOULD KNOW THIS ISSUE AND STILL MAKE CAR FOR SALE WITH CHEAP MATERIALS. WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT WILL HAVE TO PAY SINCE THIS CAN COST DEATH. WE WILL NOT BUY ANY AMERICAN CAR FROM NOW ON, TRY TO SUPPORT AMERICAN AUTO INDUSTRY BUT REALLY? I DECIDED TO SEARCH ON GOOGLE AND FOUND OUT LOTS OF COMPLAINT REGARDING POWER STEERING WHEEL 2010. WE NEED HELP TO GET THESE RECALL AND FIX IT!!! BEFORE MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS THIS MAY CAUSE. *TR
SINCE THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR EXCEEDED 60,000, THE POWER STEERING GIVES OUT INTERMITTENTLY. IT IS MOST PREVALENT PULLING INTO PARKING SPACES OR WHEN CHANGING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE AND AT LOW SPEEDS. IT HAS GIVEN OUT AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN EXITING THE HIGHWAY AND WHEN MAKING MOVING TURNS. THE POWER STEERING WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER ON JULY 1 WITH 67,000 MILES ON THE CAR, YET THE PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT WITH NO CHANGE AT ALL IN PERFORMANCE. *TR

I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM BACK IN JANUARY AND IT HAS BEEN MORE NOTICEABLE AND BOTHERSOME LATELY. IT IS HARD TO MAKE TURNS IN MY BUICK ENCLAVE WHEN TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS (25 MPH OR LESS). IT IS ALSO VERY HARD TO TURN AND PARK OR BACK OUT AND TURN. THAT REALLY SCARES ME BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO REALLY FIGHT WITH IT. IT IS AS IF THERE IS NO POWER STEERING YET IT HAS POWER STEERING FLUID. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR TWO OTHER RECALLS AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE POWER STEERING PUMP, OR IT COULD BE OTHER PARTS RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING. THIS COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION HOPEFULLY IT WON'T HAPPEN WHILE I AM DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED WITH MY 5 GRAND CHILDREN. THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2010 BUICK ENCLAVE STOPPED WORKING SLOWLY. I WAS ALMOST UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. NOT ONLY WAS THE POWER STEERING A PROBLEM, BUT THE "SERVICE AIRBAG" LIGHT HAD BEEN ON FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPT & TOLD THE SERVICE REP THAT MY POWER STEERING WAS NOT WORKING. I ALSO ASKED THE AIRBAG RECALL BE DONE ON MY CAR. THE SERVICE REP ADVISED ME THERE WERE 2 RECALLS REQUIRED, BUT THE SECOND IF THE 2 REQUIRED SHE ORDER PARTS. I LEFT THE CAR, A DIAGNOSTIC WAS DONE ($119.50) & I WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING PUMP & STEERING RACK WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $2,000. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP I HAVE USED FOR YEARS AND WHO I TRUST. THIS REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP, CLEANED METAL OUT OF...
I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM BACK IN MAY AND IT HAS BEEN MORE NOTICEABLE AND BOTHERSOME LATELY. IT IS HARD TO MAKE TURNS IN MY BUICK ENCLAVE WHEN TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS (25 MPH). MY CAR BECOMES HARD TO MANEUVER WHENEVER PULLING IN AND OUT OF PARKING SPACES AND MAKING TURNS AT LOW SPEEDS. THE STEERING STIFFNESS HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY TIGHTER. I FIRST NOTICED THIS ON A TRIP TO ST LOUIS WITH MY FAMILY, IT IS A FAMILY VEHICLE AND QUITE FRANKLY, I DON'T WANT TO RISK MY CHILDREN'S LIVES IN THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THE STEERING LOCKS UP SO TIGHTLY THAT I CAN BARELY TURN THE WHEEL, WHETHER IT IS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC OR GETTING INTO A PARKING SPACE OR MAKING A SLOW TURN ONTO A STREET. I HAVE HAD NEW BRAKES AND TIRES PUT ON THIS CAR LAST MONTH AND ASKED THE MECHANIC TO CHECK MY POWER STEERING FLUID AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING FLUID. *TR
PULLING IN AND OUT OF PARKING SPACES AND MAKING TURNS AT LOW SPEEDS, I NOTICED A ZIPPING (RUBBING) SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN. I MENTIONED IT TO THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS ON THE NEXT TWO SERVICE APPOINTMENTS (2 DIFFERENT SERVICE LOCATIONS), BUT WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE NOISE, SO NOTHING WAS DONE AT THE TIME (AUG. 2012 AND DEC. 2012). THE STEERING STIFFNESS GOT PROGRESSIVELY TIGHTER AS TIME PASSED. THEN EARLY JUNE 2014, I WAS TURNING INTO MY CHILDREN'S SCHOOL AND THE WHEEL COMPLETED STIFFENED TO THE POINT WHERE I HAD TO YANK THE WHEEL HARD NOT TO DRIVE INTO A SIDEWALK FULL OF CHILDREN. VERY SCARY. TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE IMMEDIATELY AND WAS TOLD THE RACK HAD TO REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $1800+ SINCE THE CAR WAS NO LONGER COVERED BY WARRANTY AS OF JANUARY 2014. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BUICK ENCLAVE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. NONE OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE POWER STEERING BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 40,200.
POWER STEERING DEFECT CAUSING SAFETY ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS 75000 MILES ON IT AND POWER STEERING LOCKS BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE, DEALER INDICATES THAT PUMP AND RACK NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THESE PARTS TO WEAR OUT AT THIS NUMBER OF MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BECOME A RECALL BY GM. *TR
MY 2010 BUICK ENCLAVE, WITH 60,000 MILES LOST POWER STEERING WHILE I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE STEERING BASICALLY LOCKED UP, I HAD GREAT DIFFICULTY GETTING THE VEHICLE OFF ON AN EXIT, SO THAT I COULD CALL FOR HELP. I HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DEALER. I WAS TOLD THAT THE THERE HAD BEEN A LEAK IN THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY LEADING TO PUMP FAILURE AND GEAR DAMAGE, THEIR ESTIMATE TO FIX: $1800. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALER THAT THE ENGINE MOTOR MOUNTS ARE LOOSE, THE ENGINE PHYSICALLY MOVES ABOUT 6 INCHES WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED. *TR
THE POWER STEERING WILL WORK FOR ABOUT THE FIRST 3 MINUTES OF GETTING INTO THE CAR AND THEN IT WILL GO OUT EVERYTIME I AM BELOW 20 MPH. I LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS AND WON'T EVEN LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I AM CONCERNED FOR HER SAFETY. ALSO, MY A/C AND HEAT JUST WENT OUT IN MY CAR. *TR
WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEED, THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. IT REQUIRES ME TO COMPLETELY STOP AND MANUALLY TURN THE WHEEL WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT. THERE IS CONTINUE KNOCKING AT ANY SPEED WHEN MAKING TURNS. THIS HAS BEEN A CONTINUAL PROBLEM FOR ALMOST 6 MONTHS AND IS GETTING WORSE. THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT AFTER REVIEWING FURTHER ONLINE, THERE IS A PENDING CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR THIS ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING FROM UTAH TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. I WAS COMING OUT OF BRIDGEPORT, CA, GOING OVER SONORA PASS, WHICH WINDS THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS. AT SEVERAL SHARP TURNS THE POWER STEERING JUST QUIT AND I HAD TO TUG ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP IN MY LANE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE MAKING SHARP TURNS IN PARKING LOTS AND ALSO EXITING MY DRIVEWAY. THIS INCEDENT IN THE MOUNTAINS HAS LEFT ME VERY WORRIED. I WILL BE SEEING MY GMC DEALER THIS COMING WEEK TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE. I FEEL THIS DEFECT COULD VERY WELL KILL SOMEONE SOMEDAY AS IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BUICK ENCLAVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNINGS. THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. NOTICED AT LOW SPEEDS THAT THE STEERING IS LOCKING UP WHILE TRYING TO TURN. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE THE TURN, LIKE POWER STEERING IS COMPLETELY GONE. HAVE HAD TROUBLE TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY...WE LIVE ON A MAIN ROAD THAT HAS A 50 MPH SPEED LIMIT...TWICE I HAD THE STEERING LOCK UP AS I STARTED THE TURN ACROSS THE LANES INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS DRIVING FROM IDAHO TO LAUREL MONTANA. I WAS COMING OUT OF BOZEMAN MONTANA, GOING OVER BOZEMAN PASS, WHICH WINDS THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS. I WAS PASSING A CAR AT ABOUT 70. AFTER I HAD PASSED THE CAR I TRIED TURNING BACK INTO THE LANE BUT THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE UP. I PULLED THE STEERING WHEEL VERY HARD TO THE RIGHT AND IT BROKE FREE, WHICH CAUSED ME TO OVER CORRECT TO SOME DEGREE AND ALMOST WENT INTO THE DITCH. THE STEERING IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL AND THE CAR ONLY HAS 54000 MILES ON IT. THIS DEFECT WILL KILL SOMEONE SOMEDAY. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME. GM IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. 2010 CERTIFIED PREOWNED BUICK ENCLAVE WITH 56K MILES. HAS HAD NUMEROUS OCCASIONS OF INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. EXAMPLES ARE PULLING INTO MY GARAGE, ENTERING AND EXITING PARKING LOTS AND GARAGES. I TOOK TO DEALER TODAY AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOT CODE, THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE, AND THEY ARE UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I FIND THAT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE WITH MULTIPLE NHTSB COMPLAINTS AND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. TRAVELING UP A MOUNTAIN ROAD, JUST AS THE CAR APPROACHED AN APPROXIMATELY 180 DEGREE TURN AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN, THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED AND I LOST THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS A SCENIC AREA PULL-OFF AT THE TURN WERE I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE STRAIGHT OFF THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY. OTHERWISE I FEEL THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC, AS I HAVE NEVER BEFORE EXPERIENCED DRIVING WITHOUT THE ASSIST OF POWER STEERING. HAD THIS FAILURE HAPPENED 30 SECONDS TO 2-3 MINUTES LATER WHEN I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN THROUGH A SERIES OF VERY SHARP SWITCHBACKS (REQUIRING SPEEDS OF 10-15 MPH), I COULD HAVE EASILY COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE OR DRIVEN OFF THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN. *TR
WE PURCHASED THIS MODEL IN MARCH 2013 AND THE RACK AND PINION HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED AT AN UNKNOWN TIME BEFORE WE BOUGHT IT. THE CONTACT STATED THEN TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND THE FAILURE CORRECTED ITSELF TEMPORARILY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

I HAVE HEARD OTHER BUICK ENCLAVE OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE RIGHT AROUND 60,000 MILES AND AROUND THE MAKE/MODEL YEAR 2010. THERE ARE OVER 200 COMPLAINTS ON EDMUND'S BUICK ENCLAVE FORUM "POWER STEERING NOISE". IT IS FRIGHTENING BECAUSE IT DOESN'T ALLOW YOU TO PROPERLY MAKE THE TURN. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO MY BUICK DEALERSHIP TO CONFIRM THE ISSUE AND THEY DID CONFIRM THAT THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE STEERING PUMP. *TR
WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP AND MOVING FORWARD THE POWER STEERING UNIT WOULD FAIL TO ENGAGE, THUS RENDERING THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. ON SEVERAL INSTANCES I NEARLY HIT OTHER VEHICLES IN PARKING LOTS, AND ON ONE OCCASION I NEARLY HIT A PEDESTRIAN. THE BUICK DEALER ADVISED ME TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING UNIT, WHICH I DID AT MY EXPENSE WITH 67000 MILES ON THE CAR. BUICK REFUSED TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY EVEN THOUGH THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST INSTANCE HE HAD SEEN OF THIS POWER STEERING UNIT FAILURE. INTERESTINGLY, I HAVE TALKED TO ONE PERSON WITH A GMC ARCADIA AND ANOTHER WITH A SATURN OUTLOOK WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE SAME MILEAGE RANGE. THOSE TWO VEHICLES ARE IDENTICAL TO MY BUICK ENCLAVE. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUE A VEHICLE RECALL.. *TR
