I HAVE THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU 1) AND IT PRETTY ROUTINELY SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING WHICH CAUSES A LOSS OF MAJOR COMPONENT FUNCTIONALITY. I SAW THAT NHTSA IS ASKING TESLA FOR A RECALL TO REPLACE AND I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT TESLA DO RECALL THESE VEHICLES BECAUSE THE SOFTWARE UPDATES ARE INSUFFICIENT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE MCU JUST NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
THE MCU WILL GO TO A BLACK SCREEN WHILE DRIVING AND IS UNRESPONSIVE. I AM NOT ABLE TO USE THE WINDOW DEFROSTER AND HAVE TO PULL OVER UNTIL THE UNIT POWERS BACK UP. THIS CAN TAKE SOME TIME AND CONTINUES TO TAKE LONGER EACH TIME THIS OCCURS. I HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE TO TESLA AND WAS TOLD THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE.
WHEN I TURNED ON MY CAR IN THE GARAGE THE TOUCH SCREEN WOULDN'T LIGHT UP AND THE CAR WAS DEAD. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THE MAN HAD ME GO THROUGH A SERIES OF RESETS WHICH FINALLY GOT THE CAR GOING ENOUGH SO I COULD DRIVE IT VERY CAREFULLY TO THE TESLA SERVICE CENTER WHICH IS 15 MILES AWAY. THE CAR COULD BE OPERATED BUT THERE WAS NO SCREEN AND THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNALS WOULDN'T WORK. THEY KEPT THE CAR FIVE DAYS TRYING TO RESTORE THE TOUCHSCREEN AND WERE FINALLY SUCCESSFUL. THEY SAID THEY DID NOT REPLACE PARTS AND THE COST WAS $186.11 THE SCREEN HAS GONE DARK A FEW TIMES SINCE BUT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET IT BACK WITH REBOOTING AND WAITING. OTHER COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ABOUT DON'T MENTION THE FACT THAT THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNALS DON'T WORK SO I FELT I SHOULD LET YOU KNOW THAT ADDITIONAL...
THE MAIN SCREEN STAYS BLANK AND THE BACKUP CAMERA DOES NOT WORK. ALL CONTROLS THAT WERE ON THE MAIN TOUCH SCREEN DO NOT FUNCTION INCLUDE SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND EMERGENCY BREAKING.
THE SCREEN ROUTINELY FAILS AND GOES BLACK. THE MAIN CONCERN IS THE CLIMATE CAN'T BE CHANGED AND THERE IS NO BACKUP CAMERA.
MY MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU) IS CONSTANTLY CRASHING OR FAILING TO BOOT RESULTING IN ME NOT BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE HVAC, ADJUST ANY OPTIONS INCLUDING TURNING ON/OFF LIGHTS OR SAFETY CONTROLS, AND FAILURE OF THE BACK UP CAMERA. THIS WILL HAPPEN EITHER ON BOOT UP OF THE CAR OR WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE AT LEAST MARCH 2018 WITH TESLA CONSTANTLY SAYING IT'S A SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE ISSUE AND THAT I NEED TO UPDATE WITH THE UPDATE NEVER SOLVING THE PROBLEM. AS LATE AS FEBRUARY 2020 TESLA DID A TOTAL "FACTORY RESET. WHICH WILL ERASE THE ENTIRE MCU AND ALL IT'S CONTENTS." THIS DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO SOLVE ANY OF THE PROBLEMS BUT IT DID ALLOW THEM TO INSTALL UPDATES THAT SEVERELY LIMITED MY CHARGING SPEEDS CITING CONCERNS ABOUT THE BATTERY, BUT DID CONTINUED ON TO SAY THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY BATTERY. MY GUESS IS THE MCU OR THE COMPUTER CHIP OF THE CAR STOPPED WORKING. I READ THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION ON TESLA FOR THIS ISSUE WITH MODEL S. EVERY LAST FEW SOFTWARE UPDATES THE CAR HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE AND NOW THE ELECTRICAL STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. I CAN USE MY BLINKERS EVEN! THE CAR DRIVES AND CHARGES, BUT THAT IS ABOUT IT. 40K MILES TOTAL AND BUILD 2015.
2015 MODEL S P85D WITH FAILED MCU (MEDIA CONTROL UNIT) SINCE BEGINNING OF JULY. TESLA STILL DOES NOT HAVE A PART TO REPAIR MY CAR. A TEMPORARY FIX IN AUGUST ONLY LASTED AROUND 4 WEEKS AND COMPLETELY FAILED AGAIN. WHEN MCU FAILS, ALL SAFETY FEATURES ARE NOT AVAILABLE. NO BACKUP CAMERA. NO TURN SIGNAL. NO CONTROL ON HEADLIGHT SO IF IT RAINS DURING THE DAY I CAN'T MAUALLY TURN HEADLIGHT ON EITHER. BASICALLY JUST A CAR THAT MOVES AND STOPS WITHOUT ANY OTHER FUNCTION. TESLA IS NOT TAKING THE PROBLEM SERIOUSLY AND WAITING NEARLY 1/2 A YEAR AND STILL NO PARTS AVAILABLE IS UNACCEPTABLE. I BELIEVE A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE EMBEDDED MULTIMEDIACARD. NO TOUCH SCREEN USE, NO CAMERA, NO AUDIBLE SOUNDS FOR TURN SIGNAL OR WARNINGS, NO CONTROL OVER LIGHTS OR DOOR LOCKS. EARLIER IN THE YEAR, I NOTICED NON RESPONSIVE REQUEST TO START UP THE CAR, UNDRIVABLE FOR 45 SECONDS, NOW IT IS UP TO A FEW MINUTES UPON ENTERING THE CAR, WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE. ESPECIALLY WHEN COMBINED WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK THE DOORS WITH THE LCD. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE SCREEN ISSUE THAT TESLA IS OFFERING REPAIRS NOW, BUT I HAVE TRIED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, AND THE EARLIEST ONE IS TWO WEEKS OUT, WHICH I HAVE MADE.
THE MAIN LARGE CONTROL PANEL HAS BECOME UNRESPONSIVE WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION AT LEAST 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 2-3 WEEKS. ALL 4 TIMES THE CAR WAS IN MOTION, 3 TIMES ON A HIGHWAY. THE MAIN SCREEN TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED 3 TIMES AND 1 TIME THE CAR HAD TO BE PULLED TO THE SIDE AND RESTARTED BUT IT TOOK A WHILE TO DO THAT. THE CAR WAS DRIVABLE BUT OTHER FEATURES WERE STRUCK, LIKE SEAT WARMERS AND AIR CONDITIONING.
MCU 1 FAILING ON CAR. CAR SCREENS TURN OFF RANDOMLY, STARTUP IS PROLONGED, LOSES DRIVER SAFETY FEATURES AND OVERALL SLOW/LAG MAKING IT HARD TO ACCESS MANDATORY US ROAD SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AS LIGHTS. TESLA REFUSES TO FIX.

I HAVE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT COME NOVEMBER 30TH 2020 FOR THIS BUT I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES OF THE MAIN PANEL AND SIDE PANEL DISPLAY GO COMPLETELY CRASH AND BLACK SCREEN ON ME. DISABLING BOTH THE "AUTOPILOT" V1 FEATURE IN MID USE ON A HIGHWAY GOING 60+ MPH, GPS AND OTHER IMPORTANT ASSISTANT INFORMATION SUCH AS VEHICLE SPEED ETC(BECAUSE SCREENS ARE BLACK). ITS A VERY JARRING AND DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE GOING FAST ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAVING THE CAR "CRASH" IN SUCH A WAY THAT JUST GAS AND BREAKING ARE ALL THAT ARE SUDDENLY LEFT WORKING IN AN INSTANCE(ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE THAT AUTO PILOT FEATURE ENGAGED ON A TURN). THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF ROADWAY AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STARTED TO WORK PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER TESLA SERVICE CENTER (2077 E. UNIVERSITY DR, TEMPE, AZ 85281, (602) 643-0024), TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE INTERNAL MEMORY WAS CLEARED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
BATTERY PACK: THE RATE AT WHICH THE BATTERY PACK CHARGES WAS UNILATERALLY REDUCED BY TESLA AND TESLA REFUSES TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. TESLA PROVIDED NO NOTICE IN THE ORIGINAL OWNER'S MANUAL (PAGE ATTACHED) NOR EXCLUSION IN THE WARRANTY (ATTACHED) THAT THIS WAS A POTENTIAL OUTCOME AS THE CAR AGED. I ATTEMPTED TO REBOOT THE SYSTEM BY HOLDING DOWN TWO BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE CENTER SCREEN WOULD NOT REBOOT. RATHER, THE CENTER SCREEN WENT AND STAYED TOTALLY BLACK. I CONTACTED TESLA PHONE SERVICE AND TESLA PHONE SERVICE CENTER COULD NOT CONTACT THE CAR. CENTER SCREEN REMAINED COMPLETELY BLACK. WHEN TRYING TO START TO DRIVE THE CAR, THE SCREEN IN FRONT OF STEERING WHEEL APPEARED TO BE TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE BLACK CENTER SCREEN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE MASTER CONTROL UNIT HAD BEEN REPLACED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
MCU WHICH CONTROLS THE MAJORITY OF THE AUTOMOBILE'S SAFETY AND SECURITY FUNCTIONS FAILED. I DID NOT FEEL THAT THE AUTOMOBILE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE FAILED COMPONENT WAS FIXED SO IT SAT IN MY GARAGE FOR 6 WEEKS, AFTER WHICH TIME IT WAS REPAIRED.
HI, I HAVE SEVERALS ISSUE WITH THE CAR WHICH ARE KNOWN ISSUES FOR THE MANUFACTURER AND FOR WHICH SERVICE CENTER SAYS "YES IT'S AN KNOWN PROBLEM ON ALL THESE 2015 MODEL S CAR" BUT YOU HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE CAR IS OVER 4 YEARS OLD AND MORE THAN 100 000KM, SO NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM HAS STOPPED WORKING, ALONG WITH IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURES LIKE LIGHTING, BLINKERS, CRUISE CONTROL, CLIMATE.
MY CENTER SCREEN THAT CONTROLS THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONS SUCH AS AIR CONDITIONING, ALL VEHICLE SETTINGS, MAP, CRUISE CONTROL, VEHICLE COLLISION SENSORS, LDER, ETC ARE NOT FUNCTIONING BECAUSE THE MCU UNIT FAILED. THE EMMC CHIP INSIDE MCU FAILED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DOWNLOADING A UPDATE SENT FROM TESLA OVER THE AIR. THE CAR DOESNT WANT TO TURN ON HALF THE TIME AND VEHICLE DRIVEABILITY AND FUNCTIONS ARE VERY LIMITED. TESLA HASNT RESPONDED TO MY COMPLAINTS AND MY ISSUE. THE CAR WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND DOWNLOADING WHEN THE SCREEN QENT BLACK AND NEVWR TURNED BACK ON. I TOOK IT TO A TESLA 3RD PARTY SHOP AND THEY ADVISED ME TO KEEP CALLING TESLA TO NOTIFY THEM OF FAULTY MCU AND EMMC UNIT. THE DANGER IS THAT THE VEHICLE COLLISION AND SAFETY FEATURES ARE DISABLED AND ITS DNGEROUS DRIVING ON ROADS.
MY MCU HAS CRASHED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST 8 WEEKS. FIRST TIME WAS WHEN THE MOBILE SERVICE WAS COMING OUT TO CODE A REPLACEMENT KEY. THE SOFTWARE THEY SENT APPEARED TO CRASH THE MCU THE FIRST TIME. IT WOULD WORK FOR A WEEK AT A TIME, THEN SEVERAL DAYS NOW IT'S PERMANENTLY OFF. NO HVAC CONTROL, TURN SIGNALS, AND CHARGING IS LIMITED TO 8AMPS ON MY 30 AMP LEVEL 2 CHARGER AND SUPERCHARGING IS DISABLED. CAR IS ABLE TO DRIVE, BUT NOT FAR DUE TO THE PAINFULLY SLOW CHARGE. APP WILL NOT SYNC WITH CAR AND I CAN'T SEE MY SCHEDULED SERVICE APPT. WE PURCHASED THE CAR USED (3RD PARTY) AND WE DID NOT HAVE ISSUES FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS UNTIL WE CODED THE NEW KEY, AND DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE OR TWO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TESLA MODEL S. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FAILED CAUSING THE TURN SIGNALS AND THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM TO NOT OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (TESLA 10250 SANTA MONICA BLVD STE 1340, LOS ANGELES, CA 90067 (310) 553-5767). THE DEALER AFTER A MONTH TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND PERFORMED A SOFTWARE FIX ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE MCU UNIT AS THEY ORIGINALLY DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE HOWEVER RECURRED WITH THE TURN SIGNALS STILL FLASHING ON AND OFF AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INCLUDING THE NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM ALSO NOT WORKING CONSISTENTLY. THE CENTER SCREEN OF MY TESLA STOPPED WORKING WHEN I STARTED THE CAR ONE DAY (CAR WAS PARKED), RESULTING IN A LOSS OF THE BACKUP CAMERA AND ACCESS TO MANY DRIVER SETTINGS, SUCH AS REGENERATIVE BRAKING, AUTOMATIC LIGHTS, ETC. REBOOTING THE UNIT DID NOT HELP, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF ONCE THE ISSUE OCCURRED.
MCU ON TESLA CRASHED AGAIN. LAST YEAR IT WAS REPLACED, AND THIS YEAR CRASHED AGAIN. TESLA KEEPS POSTPONING REPAIR. SAYING THEY ARE TOO BUSY. WITH THE MCU CRASHED, TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK AND MAKES CAR NOT DRIVEABLE. I UNDERSTAND YOU ALL ARE INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE? THE DATE IDENTIFIED BELOW IS THE SECOND TIME. THIS HAPPENED LAST YEAR AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TESLA MODEL S. THE CONTACT STATED THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY AND THE SCREEN WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER TESLA LOCATED AT 5544 OKEECHOBEE BLVD, WEST PALM BEACH, FL 33417, 561-232-8984, WHO SENT A TECHNICIAN TO HIS RESIDENCE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
ON 7/2/20, CENTER CONSOLE STOPPED WORKING WHEN STARTED UP. THIS AFFECTS/CONTROLS CLIMATE CONTROL, BACK UP CAMERA, BLINKERS, AND MAPS. CAR IS ABLE TO DRIVE, BRAKE, AND STEER. INABILITY TO USE BLINKERS IS HAZARDOUS. I BELIEVE IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE MCU CHIP. MANY TESLAS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS CHIP 4-5 YEARS INTO OWNERSHIP. SERVICE CENTER STATES THERE IS A LONG BACK ORDER, ESSENTIALLY MAKING IT SO THAT THE BEST-CASE SCENARIO IS I AM WITHOUT MY CAR FOR 8 WEEKS AS IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
CAR WAS CHARGING AT THE KNOXVILLE SUPERCHARGER. I COULDN'T CONNECT FROM RESTAURANT WITH MY APP TO SEE IF IT WAS COMPLETELY CHARGED. WHEN I GOT TO CAR TOUCHSCREEN WAS BLACK, WOULDN'T COME BACK WITH SOFT OR HARD RESETS, APP WAS LOCKED UP, NO NAVIGATION, NO MUSIC, ALL SCREEN AND APP ABILITIES GONE, TURN SIGNALS DIDN'T WORK, AC WASN'T WORKING. TESLA SERVICE CENTER HAS DIAGNOSED MCU 1 FAILED. THEY WERE ABLE TO REVIVE IT IN THE APPOINTMENT ALTHOUGH SOME APPLICATIONS SLUGGISH. A DAUGHTER BOARD HAS BEEN ORDERED TO FIX IT WHICH I WILL PAY FOR, APPOINTMENT FOR THAT COMING UP AUGUST 28, 2020.
MCU FAILURE, WHEN BACKING UP THE REAR CAMERA DOES NOT TURN ON, CENTER SCREEN CONSOLE HAS GONE BLACK AND WILL NOT REBOOT DESPITE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO DO SO. SEEMS LIKE A MCU FAILURE. CAR IS ESSENTIALLY VERY HARD TO DRIVE - HARD TO BACK UP - REAR CAMERA IS NOT FUNCTIONING, HAS BECOME A SAFETY PROBLEM. HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT OVER LAST FEW WEEKS, NOW PERMANENT.
THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MCU VERSION 1 IN MODELS BEFORE 2018 THAT CAN CAUSE TOTAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE, MY CAR LOST ITS ABILITY TO USE TURN SIGNAL AND CONTROL OF ALL OTHER ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT.. THEY NEED TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE AND TESLA NEEDS TO STEP UP TO PLATE AND FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS CAN CAUSE BOTH UNJUST EXPENSE FOR OWNERS NOT TO MENTION HAVE SAFETY RAMIFICATIONS.
THE DRIVER'S DISPLAY PANEL WHICH DISPLAY THE SPEED AND OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE STATE OF THE VEHICLE IS BUBBLING AND MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO READ THE CURRENT SPEED. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS FORUM. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM, TELSA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM.
THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT ON THE CAR FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION TO ALL CONTROLS OPERATED BY THE TOUCH SCREEN, INCLUDING THE BACK-UP CAMERA, THE CAR'S BLINKERS DO NOT WORK.
ISSUE WITH THE MCU1 OR INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM FAILING. THIS RESULTED IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION WHILE USING AUTO PILOT THE SYSTEM FROZE AND SHUT DOWN DURING THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. THE AI CAMERAS, RADARS, TRIP ROUTING ARE ALL CONTROLLED BY THIS INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM AND ALL OF THEM SHUT DOWN AT ONCE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING. THIS COULD HAVE EASILY RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT AS FEATURES LIKE ASSISTED LANE CHANGE, COLLISION ASSISTANCE, SUMMON, AUTO CAR DISTANCE, AUTO PILOT 1.0, STOP SIGN AND STOP LIGHT SENSING ALL RELY ON THIS COMPUTER WHICH IMMEDIATELY STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING. ALSO, ALL VIDEO PROVIDED FOR THE BACK UP CAMERA NOW NO LONGER WORKS OR COLLISION DETECTION FROM THE RADARS WHILE BACK UP COMPLETELY STOPPED WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN PULLING OUT. WHEN ASKED THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TO UP SELL ME INTO THE NEXT MCU FOR 2500 DOLLARS TO FIX THIS 'KNOWN' SAFETY ISSUE. THIS...
WHILE STATIONARY, MIDDLE TOUCH PANEL (MCU) ON MY 2015 TESLA MODEL S 85 (~60,000 MILES) STARTED FREEZING UP BETWEEN VEHICLE CONTROLS (LOWER LEFT 'CAR' ICON) AND GARBLING SCREEN WHEN TRYING TO SWITCH BETWEEN THEM, A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. I NOTICED FIRST SYMPTOMS ABOUT A WEEK AGO WHEN PERCENT CHARGED ON THE MIDDLE TOUCH PANEL DIDN'T UPDATE TOGETHER WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHILE SUPERCHARGING. NOW I HAVE TO SCROLL-WHEEL-RESET MY CAR TWICE A DAY: BEFORE DRIVING TO WORK (IT'S FROZEN IN THE MORNING) AND AGAIN BEFORE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK (FROZEN AGAIN IN THE AFTERNOON). AN ADDITIONAL SYMPTOM MANIFESTED ITSELF TODAY: MY REARVIEW CAMERA STARTED GETTING A NASTY 'GRAY VEIL' OVER IT SO YOU CAN'T SEE ANYTHING; IT SEEMS TO KEEP APPEARING AND DISAPPEARING.
COMPLETE FAILURE OF MCU WHEN STARTING THE CAR AFTER ONLY 31K MILES, CAUSING BLACKOUT OF AL SCREENS, DRIVER INFORMATION, CONTROLS, ETC. TESLA HAD ME DRIVE IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER IN THAT CONDITION AND CHARGED $1,462 TO REPLACE WITHOUT ANY INDICATION THAT IT IS A KNOWN DESIGN PROBLEM. (NOTE INCIDENT DATE IS APPROXIMATE.)
THE MAIN CENTER SCREEN COMPUTER BEGAN DEGRADING IN PERFORMANCE OVER TIME (CAUSING MORE DRIVER ATTENTION TO BE DIVERTED AWAY FROM DRIVING TO DEAL WITH FUNCTIONS IT CONTROLS, AS IT WAS LAGGY AND NOT VERY RESPONSIVE). THEN, ONE DAY, I GOT INTO THE CAR TO GO SOMEWHERE AND WASN'T ABLE TO BOOT THE MAIN COMPUTER/SCREEN AT ALL. IN ADDITION TO EVERYTHING IT CONTROLS NO LONGER BEING ACCESSIBLE OR WORKING (E.G. CLIMATE CONTROL, MANUAL HEADLIGHTS, DOME LIGHTS, ANTI-THEFT ALARM, POWER STEERING STRENGTH, SUSPENSION HEIGHT, ETC.), I ALSO FOUND THAT I NO LONGER HAD WORKING TURN SIGNALS AND HAD TO USE OUT-THE-WINDOW HAND SIGNALS WHEN I DROVE TO THE SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIR.
MCU FAILURE INCLUDING BLACK SCREEN. NO TOUCH SCREEN, CLIMATE CONTROLS DOES NOT WORK, TURN SIGNAL NOT WORKING. CAN NOT CONTROL HEAD LIGHTS. CHARGING NOT RESPONDING. NAVIGATION NOT WORKING. BACK UP CAMERA NOT WORKING.
THE TESLA'S LARGE SCREEN QUIT WORKING. THESE ARE CONTROLS THAT POWER OFF THE VEHICLE, TURN THE DEFROSTERS OFF AND ON ALONG WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL. CONTROL STEERING MODES. CONTROL BACK UP CAMERA, CONTROL LIGHTS. FROM THE READING I HAVE DONE IT IS CALLED THE MCU. IT PARTIALLY WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING, IT CAME BACK ON AND THEN IT DIED WHILE I WAS WORKING AND I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AFTER WORK.
