When backing out of my garage the driver's side rear lower control arm catastrophically broke. Thankfully, I was traveling at slow speed so it did not cause and accident. This is a major safety concern for other Altima drivers and the drivers and occupants of vehicles around them if this type of failure would occur at highway speeds. This is a known issue for as there was an investigation which closed last year. That is unacceptable and there should be a recall. This is a severe product defect and the manufacturer should be held responsible.
Rear lower passenger side control arm snapped
Rear Lower Link failure. The car has 145,XXX miles on it. I live in Wisconsin where we use Salt. I was driving the vehicle and hit a pot hole and the Driver Rear Lower Link failed in January 2026. Calling the dealer for repair I was informed of P9324 which did not cover my car. I bought replacement parts from Nissan to replace the Rear lower Links on both sides. Driver side had failed already and Passenger side was ready to fail also. I called Nissan support and I was informed that my car had a warranty extension on the Rear lower links through April 27 2025. this notice was sent to the wrong address so I was not aware of it. Also the Rear Lower link failed after the warranty extension. Nissan call person said there is nothing they can do for me. This is a know failure point...
The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the steering wheel jerked and caused the vehicle to shift into the left lane. The contact immediately slammed on the brake pedal and repositioned the vehicle into the intended lane, but the vehicle felt unstable as if the vehicle was driving on ice. The contact pulled over to the side of the road to inspect vehicle but found no cause for the failure. The contact drove to the residence. The contact’s husband reversed the vehicle into the garage, exited the vehicle and became aware that the rear passenger’s wheel was pushed into the wheel well, revealing that the rear control arm was fractured. The contact stated that the rear control arm had fractured while driving, causing the vehicle to veer into another lane. While reversing in the driveway, the control arm completely detached, and the...
On 6/28/2023, without any type of advanced warning, my rear driver's side control arm on my 2015 Nissan Altima failed, almost causing me to get into a severe accident; noting the rear tire was almost completely torn from the vehicle. The steering wheel also abruptly turned and locked to the left with a complete loss of control of the vehicle. The only thing that saved me from getting into a head-on accident with another vehicle was that I was operating at a slow speed and was able to stop in time. I never received any type of notification from Nissan, prior to the incident, to advise me of the Voluntary Service Campaign P9324. Had I known this, I would have at least had Nissan pay for my vehicle being towed and repaired, instead of paying for it out of my own pocket. On 1/4/2026, my rear passenger's side control arm...
I was driving going 60 mph on the highway when then I felt as I was sliding on as in the rear when my steering wheel immediately shifted right hard . I was able to pull over safely without causing an accident . My steering where was a quarter turned to the right while my car was still driving straight. Due to excessive rust from an unknown source my control completely snapped in half while the vehicle was in motion.
Right rear passenger rear tire assembly broke off from frame of vehicle
The rear control arm corroded and disconnected from the car. While I was driving. I was backing out of my driveway and there was a loud clinking noise and I observed the drivers side control arm hanging down. And my tire is now very high in the wheel well. Thank God it did not let go while I was on the highway.
Driving down highway, hit dip at bridge seam, when the car bounce up from dip, the right rear control arm snapped in half. Car lost control to right, fortunately I was able to maintain control somewhat and avoided accident. Right rear wheel tilted at 45 degree angle. Car currently at repair shop with snapped lower rear control arm
The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while his son was driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle started shaking and vibrating abnormally. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle felt as if the vehicle was drifting to the left and was bouncing. The contact stated his son was not aware of any warning lights being illuminated. The contact stated that his son drove the vehicle back to the residence. The contact looked under the vehicle and became aware that the driver's side rear control arm was fractured. The contact stated that the driver's side rear wheel was leaning into the wheel well. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
My husband was pulling in a parking spot and heard a pop like noise and went out to inspect the car and saw the rear tire was falling off the car. We are told it was the lower suspension link
Over the last 2 years I had both left and right side rear "lower link" suspension elements "rot out" and break while operating the vehicle. Both times leaving me stranded roadside. After the the 2nd failure I felt it couldn't be a coincidence and found Nissan has issued a voluntary action and admitted using faulty parts in Altima's between 2013 to 2018. They voluntarily extended the warranty to 10 years and unlimited mileage. They are now denying repair of my issue because I am 2 weeks beyond their arbitrary 120 month warranty extension. I say arbitrary because how can they put a time limit on parts you know to be faulty and are corroding? I have one of these known faulty parts and simply based on random circumstances mine failed 2 weeks too late. So they dodge responsibility for selling me a poor quality car? At the urging of the...
Upon entering highway and reaching 75 mph, vehicle pulled hard to right.I made a correction to keep vehicle in center lane of a three lane highway. Shortly after I made the first correction, the vehicle again pulled rather aggressively to the right, I again made a correction back to maintain center of lane. After making second correction, I noticed my steering wheel very off center to maintain vehicle tracking straight in the lane. (Steering wheel indicating a left turn to maintain a straight track). Simultaneously, the vehicle traction control indicator illuminated on the drivers display. I quickly checked my tire pressures to rule out a flat tire. I pulled off to the shoulder of the highway, as the vehicle was getting more difficult to control in a straight line. Not noticing any obvious damage and the need to vacate the highway environment, I illuminated my hazards and drove approximately 5-10...
The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 42 MPH, the rear end of the vehicle was shuddering. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the rear passenger's side upper control arm was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: EA19002 (Suspension). The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,500.
Out of town and control arms went while turning a corner. My steering wheel was sideways and I was going straight. There was no warning, noises or dashboard lights prior to this happening. My vehicle has 130k but well maintained. Prior to this happening I was driving on the Thruway at 65mph, this could of broke then causing a potential accident or something worse. Why wasn't there any warning lights advising of this potential problem?
The rear control arm on the driver side snapped while my wife was driving. Now the rear side sways
Rear lower control arm failed while driving. Luckily I was able to maintain control. Not sure if I would have been so lucky had I been on the highway. Car rear end was unstable and hard to control. Had vehicle towed to private repair shop then researched warranty campaign. Currently having it towed for the second time to a Nissan dealership.
My low beam headlights very low ,so low seems like they aren't on,have to drive with high beams on, there was a recall in 2022, that I wasn't made aware of also the control arm front driver and passenger side is cracked and my car has never been wrecked. Brought it brand new off the Nissan dealership lot. Had issues from the start with the interior they call themselves fixing ( but did not).
This is my 3rd Altima. The first 2 were amazing. This 1 is not. I bought it used from Shift.com with 73k miles on it. About 6-8 months later I started feeling something wrong in the steering. The shop I took it too said the lower control arms were in the rear were corroded and the bushing were going bad. Tried to get it repaired thru the extended warranty I paid extra for but that was a nightmare and we ended fixing it ourselves. Something was still wrong. I put new tires on it, still wrong. Changed out the struts on front and shocks on rear, new control arms,, bushings, sway bar links, and tie rods. New brake pads and rotors. Then I bought custom wheels and another set of new tires for it. Took it and had an alignment done. The shop said everything looked good. Not long after...
I was driving along on slightly rough pavement and the car sort of twitched in the rear end and then every few rotations of the rear wheel, the car shuddered-accompanied by a grinding noise. Then I noticed, that to continue in a straight line, the steering wheel was about 30 degrees, clockwise, to the right of center! I managed to limp on down the shoulder of the road at 10 mph and made it the mile and a half to my house. I thought a wheel bearing had failed, but when I took off the driver's side rear wheel, I discovered that the lower control arm was rotten with corrosion and rust and had collapsed. I searched online for the broken part but, fortunately, found out that Nissan had extended the manufacturer warranty due to pressure from NHTSA. I had the undriveable vehicle towed to the local Nissan dealer (Matthews)...
Rear Control Arm broke while driving on the highway. We are lucky the car did not crash and cause serious injury to myself and others.
Right rear control arm broke while driving down the road causing the car to lose control. Appears to only have very small contact points to the bushing.
Passenger side rear lower control arm snapped when backing my car out of the driveway. Through inspection looks like driver side is starting to crack. There are recalls on the USA for this problem up to 2013 and in Canada for 2013 and 2014.
A- arm on rear suspension rusted out.
My car only has 36,400 miles. I went for an oil change at a third party garage and was told my front control arms are cracked and need to be replaced. I went to the dealer who confirmed this and also said there was a recall on the rear control arms. I have talked to numerous mechanics who said that the control arm should not be failing at 36,400 miles. I contacted Nissan asking them to help me with the cost of the front control arms since they are failing at such low mileage. They are not willing to do anything. I feel like the front should be replaced by the dealer.
The right rear lower control arm broke away from where the bushing is. It was the innermost bushing towards the center of the vehicle. It appears the metal is rather thin and rusted away. While driving, loss of control happened. With a bit of occasional snow on the road it was really bad as the car went from tar to a later of snow. The tire sat a bit sideways
On 7/22/2022, our 2015 Nissan Altima began to shake heavily while being driven at approximately 30 mph. Please note that our 16 year old newly licensed son was driving the vehicle when this occurred. The traction control light came on and the vehicle was unable to be driven safely. Thankfully, he was able to get to the side of the road and we were able to have the car towed to our mechanic. It was determined that the driver side left rear lower control arm had completely broken off due to corrosion. Pictures attached. The left rear control arm was replaced by our mechanic. On 2/3/2023, our 2015 Nissan Altima was being driven at approximately 30mph by our 16 year old son when he reported a knocking sound and the car began to shake. He reported the traction control light came on and he had to maneuver the car to...
I changed out my sway bar links cause I keep hearing a klunk sound ( metal on metal) and noticed how rusted and brittle the rear control arms. I'm afraid to drive the car.
The left back lower control arm broke into while I was driving . There is not a recall on it yet. I was traveling over a bridge with light traffic when the traction control light came on and I was hearing a lot of noise coming from the Vechile .I turned my emergency flashers on And looked around the Vechile but did not see anything . So I drove with the flashers on to my car repairman . When he lifted the Vechile up he showed me what had happened it had rusted through. I consider myself very lucky if there had been heavy traffic I would have most likely been in a crash . The part too replace it is very hard too find .
Left rear lower control arm broke while driving due to rust and cracked weld. I was lucky to be going at a slow rate of speed when it happened. The rear left tire turned inward and it was undrivable.
The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving at 20 MPH and making a right turn, he lost control of the vehicle. There was no further information provided. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated prior to the failure. Despite the failure, the vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear driver's side control arm was fractured. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The VIN was not available. The consumer stated the company did have a recall and fixed the vehicle.
My rear Rear Lower Control Arm are both rusty and about to break
My 2015 Nissan Altima, I've had it (7 years), started stopping without warning. Last week, I've had the valve cover replaced, because it was oil coming through one of the chambers of my spark plugs, I got a new battery, & I got the oil changed to make sure that everything was flowing correctly and running clean. Then it happened again. I put my car in park, I turned it off, and started again. There were no warning lights or codes that came across the dashboard. It was more frustrating because there's no warning no preparation it just does it so I did a system diagnostic ( Hitting the push to start button 5 times then hitting the door Button on the inside of the door jam 10 times then hitting the push to start button 3 times and the car will test all of the systems). My car was...
The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while reversing out the driveway, the rear lower control arm detached from the vehicle. There was an unknown warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the lower control arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Took car in and asked Nissan dealer to inspect rear lower links as there was a creaking noise and had just received extended 10 year warranty from manufacturer on components. Said completely fine. 3 weeks later driving down the road heard a thump in back end and car became impossible to control even at less than 20 miles an hour causing it to fishtail from lane to lane. Took car back in for repair and passenger side lower link completely rusted and snapped. Drivers side was also completely corroded and upon removal was also cracked. This could not have happened in 3 weeks time if inspected and had nothing wrong. Dealer told me even though they were completely corroded, which was what the warranty stated, they could not repair until physically broken as per Nissan. Dealer has stated they have had others with issues similar to mine but manufacturer will...
Rear passenger control arm separated from frame due to corrosion.
The control arm broke due to rust. This happened while I was driving. I read that Nissan recalled 2013 and 2014 Altimas due to this exact same problem. My car is 2015 but experienced the same problem and it is very dangerous. The arm might have had a crack in addition to rust. I don’t know when the crack happened since I bought this car used. When I examined the break, the rust and crack have been there for a long time.
I was driving on the freeway when the driver side rear control arm broke. Car suddenly pulled across my lane and began violently shaking. I was able to regain control and safely slow down and stop. Upon investigating, I found the left rear control arm broke at the weld joint near the base. Car was unable to drive and needed to be towed. Repair costs are pending at this time. Had there been a car in the lane next to me at the time, a collision would have occurred.

CONTROL ARM RUSTED AND SNAPPED AT THE CONNECTION POINT WHERE IT MEETS THE KNUCKLE ON BOTH SIDES A COUPLE MONTHS APART. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION BOTH TIMES THANKFULLY ON A CITY STREET AFTER HITTING A SMALL BUMP FOR A MANHOLE COVER.
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN I FELT A SLIGHT JOLT AND IT FELT LIKE I HAD A FLAT. I PULLED OVER AND WHEN I GOT OUT TO LOOK AT VEHICLE I NOTICED DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL WAS OUT OF ALIGN. I LOOKED UNDER VEHICLE AND I SAW THE REAR CONTROL ARM CORRODED AND BROKEN IN TWO.
WIFE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL DUE TO THE RIGHT REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM BREAKING WHILE DRIVING. TOWED TO NISSAN DEALER AND CONTACTED CORP CUSTOMER CARE. I REFERENCED NISSAN SERVICE CAMPAIGN P9324 AS PARTS FOR LISTED 2013/14 ALTIMA WERE SAME AS MY WIFE'S 15. FIRST REP DECLINED ANY ASSISTANCE IN REPAIR, NEXT REP TODAY STATED WILL REVIEW. THIS NEEDS TO BE COVERED FOR ALL YEARS USING THIS PART IN AREAS EFFECTED BY ROAD SALT USE. HAD THIS BEEN AT HER USUAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC ACCIDENT WITH LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND ABILITY TO STOP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS WOBBLY. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR CONTROL ARM WAS RUSTED. THE LOW-PRESSURE TIRE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHCILE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT CALLED BERTERA NISSAN (569 OXFORD ST S, AUBURN, MA 01501, (508) 832-9611) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,656. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CAR WAS REPAIRED BY CRANSTON AUTO REPAIR.
WHILE DRIVING THE 'TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT' CAME ON AND THE CAR FELT AS THOUGH IT HAD A FLAT. TIRES LOOKED GOOD. WENT HOME. THE NEXT MORNING THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR LOOKED AS THOUGH THE BODY OF THE CAR WAS ALMOST RESTING ON THE TIRE. A REPAIR GARAGE IS NEXT STORE TO US. BROUGHT IT TO THEM. THEY CALLED TO SAY THAT THE REAR CONTROL ARM DRIVERS SIDE RUSTED AND BROKE AND THAT THE RIGHT SIDE NEEDED REPLACING TO. NISSAN IS NOT HONORING A KNOWN DEFECT AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY SAID THAT UNLESS IT WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT EITHER. WE ARE STUCK PAYING TO REPLACE BOTH REAR CONTROL ARMS AT OUR EXPENSE. WHEN NISSAN IS AWARE THAT IT IS THERE ISSUE AND IT SHOULD COVER ALTIMA'S FROM 2013-2018. OURS IS A 2015. WE LIVE IN ONE OF THE SALT ROCK STATES. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY...
5 YEARS OLD AND HAD TO REPLACE COMPLETE SUBFRAME, NISSAN WOULD NOT COVER DUE TO LIVING BY THE OCEAN , OTHER 2 ALTIMA'S FROM 08 HAVE NO ISSUES . REPAIR COST WAS $3000 . FIGURED OUT ISSUE WHEN RIGHT FRONT BOTTOMED OUT AND A-ARM SITTING ON THE GROUND.
WHILE LEAVING A PARKING LOT I WENT DOWN A STEEP RAMP AND THE RIGHT REAR CONTROL ARM BROKE I PULLED OVER TO CHECK AND THE ARM LOOK RUSTED OUT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AT THE NAPOLI NISSAN DEALER LOCATED AT 688 BRIDGEPORT AVE, MILFORD, CT 06460, THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,051.
MY SON WAS DRIVING MY WIFE'S 2015 NISSAN ALTIMA DOWN THE DRIVEWAY(APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH) WHEN THE REAR LEFT SUSPENSION BROKE. HE CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT SLOWLY FOR ANOTHER MILE ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD HAVING, DIFFICULTY STEERING, AND HOPING TO MAKE IT TO THE NEARBY MECHANIC. HE STOPPED AFTER A MILE AND CALLED ME. I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SUSPENSION ARM WAS BROKE AND THE TIRE WAS ANGLED.(THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS SEVERLY CORRODED ALSO) THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AND HE FILED WARRANTEE INFORMATION. THE WARRANTEE WAS DENIED BECAUSE IT WAS A CORROSION ISSUE. I AM GRATEFUL THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY!!! IF IT IS HARD TO STEER A VEHICLE AT 20 MPH, WHAT WOULD HAPPEN AT 75 MPH. HOW IS THIS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM? A MAIN SUSPENSION ARM RUSTING OUT IN LESS THAN 5 YEARS, AND KNOWN COMMON PROBLEM...
BOUGHT USED 2015 ALTIMA SV 13 DAYS AGO. BRAND NEW TIRES WERE PUT ON BEFORE I TOOK DELIVERY. THREE DAYS AGO, IT STARTED FEELING LIKE I HAVE A FLAT TIRE, DRAGGING THE RUBBER, PULLING, AND SWAYING FROM REAR WHEN I PARK. MPG IS TERRIBLE, TURNS ARE WIDER, VIBRATES IN STEERING WHEEL WHICH WORSENS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. CHECKED TIRES, SAW 9 .25 WEIGHTS ON PASS FRONT WHEEL, 2 .25 WEIGHTS ON PASS REAR WHEEL, DRIVER FRONT WHEEL HAS GLUE WITHOUT WEIGHTS, DRIVER REAR WHEEL, SAME THING. PASS REAR TIRE HAS 1/2 INCH SLOPE INSIDE ON TOP OF TREAD, LIKE IT'S SEPARATING. FEELS LIKE LOOSE SUSPENSION, WOBBLY AND OUT OF SOCKET. TIRE GUY SAYS BAD TIRE. DEALERSHIP SAYS I GOTTA PAY FOR ALIGNMENT. I JUST BOUGHT THE THING LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AGO, WITH EVERY PENNY TO MY NAME. DEALERSHIP SENT ME AWAY, UNTIL I HAVE MONEY IN MY ACCT TO ALIGN...
TAKATA RECALL.... WHEN VEHICLE IS IN TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY AT A STAND STILL AND YOU FINALLY GET TO MOVE THE VEHICLE WON'T CHANGE GEARS. THE RPM WILL GO AS HIGH AS 8 BUT THE MILEAGE WILL NOT GO UP, IT WILL STAY AT THAT LOWER LEVEL SPEED.
