My engine failed due to the knock sensor recall a known issue on my 2013 Kia Sportage the recall is supposed to provide a lifetime warranty but I was denied coverage because the failure happened before I was able to perform the update as I was a new owner to the car and was unaware of the recall at the time I have been going back and forth with the kia dealership for almost 8 months now 4 of those the car was at the dealership because they said I had to pay a $170 the fee for them to inspect the car to see if kia would repair it or not it which I was told I would get a full report when I finally was able to pick my car up I was told the claim was denied "due to recall not being performed" and that's literally all...

While driving in the carpool lane, the engine briefly cut-out and than a rattling sound was heard. We decided to immediately exist the free way at a left-side car pool exit as a precaution. Immediately after exiting, the car went into a complete stall. Had we remained on the freeway, we would have been stranded in the fastest lane with no shoulder and with traffic approaching from the rear at 70mph. Thus we likely avoided catastrophe. There was no warning light. The problems was later determined to be caused by a manufacturer defect resulting in a connecting rod bearing failure. Pursuant to a class action settlement the engine was replaced. I'm writing to let others know that this is a potentially life-threatening danger and that the knock sensor recall does not adequately address this. Also, the dealer mischaracterized the symptoms on the engine warranty invoice, misstating the narrative above, wrongly...

Have been denied replacement of 2013 Kia Engine due to insufficient records. The KSDS had been installed May 7, 2021. Was told because I did my own maintenance and I have receipts and dates when the maintenance was done reason for being denied. I used 5W 20 full synthetic motor oil which was over and above what the car called for and a new oil filter every time which shows on my receipts. Obvious by looking at the vehicle that it was in good shape and maintained well for being a 2013. When I presented this to Kia, they said that they have in writing that you can’t do this. All it says is that they recommend service being done by a Kia dealer . this is when I found out about the Magnus and Moss warranty act of 1975. I kept a log of service done in my car...

my vehicle, 2013/ SL Sportage recently suffered catastrophic engine failure. I received a renotification from Kia regarding the software updates. Barely a week, [XXX], my engine seized in traffic due to rod failure which the software update could have prevented according to Metro Kia of Madison. I was also told by the same Kia authorized dealer that the repair would cost me $11,000 out of pocket in addition to the diagnostic fees of $210.87. I also contacted Kia Consumer Affairs at 1-800-333-4542 regarding this issue, but the representative told me that the defect is my responsibility as the owner of the vehicle. I think this is absurd and unacceptable. I’m a student who relies on this vehicle to commute to school. With the semester beginning and winter approaching, I can’t imagine being left without safe transportation which places me in a severely disadvantaged position. I cannot and should not bear...

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while coming to a gas station rest stop, making a left turn to the fuel pump, the vehicle lost power and coasted to the fuel pump. There were no warning lights illuminated. The VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic), which had a warranty extension for the engine to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer was unable to replace the engine and referred the contact to another mechanic to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that the timeframe for the engine coverage extension had been exceeded, and the...

In 2022, my 2013 Kia Sportage (VIN: [XXX] ) experienced a spontaneous engine compartment fire while parked. I was unaware of any existing recalls at the time. The vehicle was stationary and turned off when the incident occurred. I extinguished the fire myself. There was no crash involved, but the damage rendered the vehicle inoperable. I later discovered that this exact vehicle is subject to Recall 23V652000, related to an electrical short in the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) that can result in an engine compartment fire while the vehicle is parked or driving. As of now, the recall remains open and unrepaired under this VIN. I was never notified of this critical safety recall before the incident. Kia’s authorized dealer in Puerto Rico (MOTORAMBAR) confirmed the recall but declined responsibility for the damage already caused, offering only the standard fuse replacement. I have submitted a written complaint to Kia...

NEXT DAY TOWED IT TO KIA AND THE SAID THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP BUT THATTHE ENGINEWAS NOT WARRENTY BECAUSE IT HAD NOT THROWN A KNOCK SENSEOR CODE. WE HAVE MAINAINED THIS VEHICLE AND GOTTEN THE UPDATE FOR THE KNOCK SENSOR AND WERE ABOUT TO GIVE IT TO OUR SON AND GET OURSELVES ANOTHER KIA. DONT THINK THATS GOING TO HAPPEN NOW THATI KNOW KIA DOES NOT STAND BEHINDE THEIR PRODUCT OR CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS.

My car has a recall on the engine due to the chance it could catch fire. I brought my car to the dealership to have them replace the recalled part and they returned the car to me without performing the work. They didn't tell me that they didn't fix the recalled part, but I happened to notice on the receipt a day later that it said "can't perform bulletin parts on backorder freeze".

I have owned this vehicle for two years and last week the engine started making a load noise after some research I found a safety recall from 2017 that Kia made an error in the machining process of the engine and could cause catastrophic damage and a major safety issue if happened while driving. This vehicle has been at the local Kia dealer and they refuse to do anything about the issue.

I had my vehicle in for a recall from Kia PI2103 for Kia to update the software in my Kia Sportage. Which was to install software that could help my engine from failing. This was performed on January 19th 2024. Along with this recall they were supposed to extend my warranty to 15 yrs 150,000 miles. Shortly after aout 500 miles later and a few weeks my engine developed a knocking noise. I took back to the dealer that performed the recall to have it diagnosed. They advised that it needs and engine and is part of the campaign but they needed to get prior authorization. After a month went by Kia determined because I never took the key tag out of the car that I would not be getting a new engine for not meeting the requirements. How they determined this is when a service advisor is making a...

My daughter has a 2013 Kia Sporage. Last week she was driving and the engine kept cutting off on the highway. She has had the recalled engine replaced last year and has 33,000 miles on it. When we took it to be checked out the guy said it could be the timing chain. The dealership said that was unlikely. It sounds like it’s not getting gas, so we put fuel injector cleaner in and it still isn’t running.

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine made a tapping sound, and then the vehicle lost motive power. No warning light was illuminated. Additionally, there was engine oil leaking onto the ground while driving, with smoke coming from underneath the hood. The vehicle was towed to the residence and then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the lower bearing, push rod, and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that a Product Improvement Campaign to update the Engine Control Unit (ECU) software had previously been performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer denied the engine replacement due to the vehicle have a Salvage Title. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

On December 13, 2023, at 7:30am I noticed that the check engine light was on in my vehicle. I recently received an Important Safety Recall letter notice on November 14, 2023, regarding a defect with the safety of kia motor vehicles that were manufactured between 2011-2013, in which the defect can result in an engine compartment fire. I currently have a 2013 Kia Sportage so once I saw the check engine light, I was concerned due to the notice I received. I decided to take my vehicle to my nearest kia dealership per the WARNING that states that if you experience illumination of Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) take the vehicle to the nearest dealership as soon as possible. I took my vehicle to the 7050 Ogden Ave Berwyn, IL 60402 location. I informed Rep that my check engine light was turned on. The Rep then stated that diagnostic testing can...

I was driving to my destination on the local highway when my car began to make a noise like a knocking sound, I kept driving so I can get over and get to a street where I can pull over safely. The car started smoking, I can see it through my rear view mirrors, I begin to panic because my car seem to be slowing down and cars are going around me. At this point I was able to pull over, as I was pulling over the car came to stop on its own and completely shutdown. I contacted my insurance and had it towed to my mechanic who determined the engine needed to be replaced. I take good care of my car, there were no warning signs, no lights on in my car indicating that the car was in distress. I contacted Kia and explained what happened, I had...

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving approximately 100 MPH, there was a loud banging sound coming from the front of the vehicle, with white smoke coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, a huge hole was discovered under the engine which caused all the engine oil to leak out of the engine. The vehicle was later towed to the residence. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 151,000.

I was stopped at a red light, once the light turned green I was accelerating when I lost power and the engine stalled, pumping the gas did nothing. I was able to coast to the side of the road but my car never did start back. There is only 125278 miles on the car and I have only had it 2 months.

While driving on the highway there was a 'pop' sound and then the smell of smoke. After pulling over to the side of the highway, roughly 20 seconds later, smoke was pouring out of the front of the vehicle and within a minute it was engulfed in flames.

Was driving on the interstate at approximately 80 MPH went to slow down for a slow car in the fast lane and lost power in the middle of traffic. Check engine light began flashing. Upon a check of the check engine code it gave a known recall with a number of kias in this model and year range covered with lifetime engine replacement. Error code P-1326 glow relay stuck on. Considering my fuel combustion engine does not have a glow relay this should fall under the already known covered issues and be extended to my vehicle

On April 29,2023 I was driving my son's Kia Sportage on the interstate after dropping him off at the airport and the car started knocking as soon as I heard that I pulled over on the side of the road. I got out of the car opened the hood checked the oil and there wasn't a drop of oil on the dipstick. I put some oil and Lucas in and tried to start the car and the motor was seized. My son had just got the oil changed at a oil lube center and the car does not leak oil so where did all of the oil go to. There was no warning of anything no lights on the dash came on just less than 5min of knocking engine and then seized.

My car caught on fire on the highway due to a kia recall and kia isn't willing to fix my car because i was unaware of the recall. I was on the highway driving my 9 month old baby to her fathers home and then i heard a rattling under the hood. all of a sudden my car stopped driving and it caught on fire thankfully I had my partner with me so he put out the fire. At the moment the KIA dealership has been brutally rude to the point that they've raised their voices at me and threaten to charge me more fees for my car being there because I was waiting to hear back from KIA. On top of everything i called the dealership that i bought the car from and has cursed me and sent me to hell because they did not go over the car...

At first i heard a knocking noise as if something fell from under the hood then my car stopped accelerating then the engine light went off oil light as well. Mind you I'm in the car with my 9 month old baby in the middle of the highway i stop my car where it was smoking i lifted my hood and there was a fire i had to put out because if i didn't my car would have blew up then the car never turned back on other then the urgency of my situation i dropped my car off to a kia dealership completely rude and unsympathetic and still haven't heard a word back about my car or even trying to get me into a rental worse experience of my life I almost die and kia fails to act like they give a damn.

I have a 2013 Kia Sportage with 85,000 miles on it. I had an email back in 2018 that said that there was a recall for engine issues. I immediately called and they said that based on my VIN number, it did not affect my car. On 11/6/2022, My engine died while I was coming back from Tampa, FL to Jacksonville, FL in Ocala with no warning whatsoever. I had it towed to a mechanic who knew exactly what was wrong. He had worked on several Kia's with the same engine problem and told me to call KIA regarding the warranty. I called Kia Resolution Center as well as Kia Corporate Headquarters and they all stated that there was NOT a safety issue with my engine. They said they sent out a Product Update for an extended warranty, which I do not recall getting back in 2021, or I would...

I was driving down a hill within miles of our home on route 50 with my teenage son in the passenger seat when my kia downshifted, and just quit working, and then we noticed smoke under the hood. We got it to the side of the road. When popping the hood we couldn't tell what was going on but there was a spark/fire that we extinguished with a soda I had. I did not have to call fire or police. Thank goodness there were no other cars around and we were not injured. It was around 10:30am and was pretty scary. There were no warning lights or sounds at the time of the incident. I had just had all new brakes, rotors, and tires put on in over the summer. We did get it towed to All body auto near where the incident occurred. They said there was a hole...

I was driving home from work on 08/29/2022 in lane #4 at 60 mph during 5:00 o'clock traffic .a I heard a small pop and lost all power. Smoke came from under the hood and the car was dead. Luckily there was no on in the HOV lane and I immediately pulled to the left. Oil was all over the road and the car. An oils slick like that is dangerous not only to the driver of the car but other motorists or motorcycle riders. Thank god my wife wasn't driving it. I had it towed to the KIA dealer and they notified me there was a known issue with this engine and I I didn't have the KSDS sensor updated and Kia would not do any repairs. I had never received any notifications about safety issues or a recall. Since this has happened I found out there was a...

I was traveling at approx. 65 miles an hour in the #3 lane in traffic, when I lost power suddenly as if the engine died. I was able to immediately exit the freeway at the first exit and pulled into a gas station. (Approx. 2 blocks from the freeway exit) I noticed a light on the dash was lit in the shape of an engine that wasn't lit before. At this time, I heard an unusual loud knocking noise coming from the engine compartment. I had just come from the store and had frozen food in the car. I didn't know what was causing the noise it didn't sound good and decided to just have AAA tow it to my house. Once the car was at home in my driveway and I had unloaded the frozen food, I plugged in my OBDII reader which gave me a p1326 code. I...

KIA needs to notify its customers that they have RECALL's, not CAMPAIGNS. It was unfortunately bad timing for me that when the letter from Kia arrived, announcing a “Campaign”, not a recall, that I was preparing to have another open heart surgery and a “campaign” just didn’t seem important. My business has campaigns all the time, marketing campaigns. If one of my product lines has a problem with a product that could impact safety or performance, they have a RECALL. I realize that I will never get reimbursed for the money I had to spend for a new engine, and when my credit card bill arrives in the next week or two, I will have to get a short term loan to pay for it. Because you did send a letter. But it was for a CAMPAIGN, not a RECALL. Even with my impending surgery a RECALL letter would have...

My engine started making a tik-tik noise in June of 2022. I drive very little as I work from home, took it to get an oil change and for a service check, was advised nothing was wrong that they could identify on the vehicle. Ticking continued, Kia advised they were over a month out for service call appointments, got on the list and had my oil changed again after only 300 miles. Ticking noise got louder while waiting on service call appointment, then as I was driving home on a back road (thankfully), there was a loud banging noise from under my hood, spluttering, some whining noises, my instrument panel lit up with all engine-related lights, and the car shut off while driving. I lost power steering and brakes, and had to coast into a neighborhood and down a hill to safely move my car out of traffic's way. I...

I was driving down a back country road where the speed limit was 50mph. The truck in front of me kept stopping so I went around him and he tried to cut me off so I had to step on it to get in front of him and my check engine, battery, and oil lights all popped on at the same time. My car then stopped accelerating so I had to coast to a stop and pull over and turned my car off. My car wouldn’t start back up I had to pay almost $200 to tow my car home to have someone look at it and tell me that an engine bearing went out and I would need a new engine.

I was on the freeway going 55mph when my engine seized (engine light, oil light, and battery light went on) and I was no longer able to accelerate. I had just switched lanes in front of a semi when my acceleration stopped. It was a blessing there was an off ramp by the lane, otherwise the semi would have had to slam on their breaks since my car went from 55mph to nothing in a matter of seconds. No previous warning lights occurred before this incident. Luckily, I was able to coast off the freeway and park. When I restarted my vehicle, the lights went off and I was able to get my car home safely going very slow. The engine know knocks and KIA will not give us answers on coverage.

Engine stalling and nocking when over 2000 RPM
#11474968 |
My car engine seized on the freeway while going 75mph, almost causing an accident. My mechanic said it was an engine recall issue seen often in KIAs. Premature engine barring wearing. I had my car towed to the kia dealership and they confirmed that I had the same problem from the recalls and assumed my KIA was included but was 151,000 miles and they couldn't move forward because it needed to be 150,000 miles. I called customer service to get a goodwill extention of repair for my car as I had NEVER received a recall notice for this issue. Customer service called back later telling me my car was not included in that recall. My car exhibited the same defect as thousands of others and since 2017 I was not notified of potential safety issues.

My engine got blown. No notice of a recall that was supposedly sent out on 4/1/2021 was received. I called Kia consumer affairs and asked if they did anything to confirm that the owners of the cars received the notice of the recall. The response I received was a sharp NO, we only send out postal notices. They never attempted to call me nor send me any type of email to ensure that I was notified in a timely manner before my engine got blown. I could have been extreme danger and put other lives including my own at risk, had this occurred at high speeds while driving. No warnings lights were lit up prior to the car engine blowing. I am concerned that because there was no confirmation of the notice being sent out, and that there are other Kia owners facing the same situation where they have not...

While driving approximately 75 mph down the interstate, the car failed to accelerate, made a noise as if air was being released, and then died. Thankfully, we were able to make it to the side of the road, but the car would not restart. We had the car towed to a dealership not far from where we broke down. The mechanics at the dealership informed us that the engine had locked up while we were driving. No lights or messages had come up before the car died, and the only sound that we heard was the air release sound. Other vehicles of the same make and model have had engine recalls, but when we reached out to KIA, but there is not a recall on our vehicle.

While driving on highway, heard loud noise from engine and car lost power. Was able to safely make it to the side of the road where I noticed a lot of oil under the car. Called for a tow, while the tow truck driver was hooking up the vehicle he found a piece of the connecting rod under the car. Had the car tow home and called Kia, there seems to be a recall for the 2.4l engine but not on the Sportage. The car has 104500 miles on it and I have e owned it since it was new.
