I was driving my 2016 Kia Sorento up a steep hill when all of the sudden my vehicle lost the ability to climb up. This street has many fast drivers on it, even though it was residential. I turned down the hill and when i got to the bottom my car was making a crazy loud sound from the engine.
Engine making a knocking sound. Had to have my car towed.
Vehicle has excessive oil consumption. Not leaking, but burning oil at a rate of 1 quart every 500 miles. After 65K miles it has been consistant. Now at 115K the engine is clicking like there is a bent valve or something. This needs to be addressed by Kia,
Engine failure without warning at 88,000 miles. Car has been driving fine got an oil change 4 days ago. Today was driving to work and started hearing a knocking noise and ended up having to have car towed.
My oil light was flickering on for a second when taking a sharp curve or turn, checked it to be safe because I am so for a oil change and it was BONE DRY, there was absolutely no oil in it at all but the light never came on. I had to add 4 qts of oil just so I had some until my service appointment in two days. Why isn’t the oil light coming on to indicate low or no oil in the vehicle?
Engine failure with no warning at 162,000 miles
We purchased the vehicle used in June 2021. The dealership did an oil change. We took it to NTB for an oil change 6 months later, within the recommended mileage range and the mechanic said it was bone dry. He put 5 quarts of oil in and said to return in 1,000 miles. No sign that there was an issue. Once we returned to have the vehicle inspected, the mechanic did an oil change and sent us on our way. Here we are around 3,000 miles after the oil change and the vehicle is bone dry again. The vehicle shut off while driving (turning a corner, was able.to safely steer car into a field). The vehicle started right up and the check engine light came.on and the oil light flashed briefly. We filled the vehicle with the proper oil. Turned the car on to cycle through. Drove it around the...
Car oil engine concern. The engine oil continues to be low and without any warning car engine oil is low. This is a high risk of burning up the engine, risk of starting a fire, and stall the engine. The car was taken to the shop where the mechanic had brought to my attention engine oil is low and had asked me when was my last oil change. The mechanic then did another inspection where the mechanic didn’t see any leak but want me to constantly monitor my car engine oil. The mechanic also added 2qts in. As I monitored my car, oil seem to be leaking on parking, while no warning switch is on.
Vehicle began making a knocking sound every time we accelerated. Took it to a mechanic to diagnose the problem and was told it was the engine. There weren't any outstanding recalls when we searched. While searching we kept coming across a claim settlement for the same issue, so we decided to call the 1-800-333-4542. They told us Kia wouldn't replace the engine because it was already leading towards failure. We then decided to call a local Kia dealership and they set an appointment for April 25th. The problem has worsened and we can't drive it anymore. A new engine will cost over 6k and we still owe 8k. It only has 76,600k miles. What a waste and it is upsetting Kia will probably not replace the engine for free.
I have a 2016 LX Kia Sorento with only 123k miles on it. When I first purchased the vehicle it had on 27k miles on it. It has done great until I reached over 100k miles. Ever since, it is consuming massive amounts of oil weekly. No oil light comes on and there's no external oil leaking from the SUV. I have had frequent oil changes every 2500 miles to be exact all maintenance is up to par on my vehicle. Needing the dealership to try to assist with the matter as having to go weekly for top offs and monthly for oil changes has become beyond costly.
I was driving and suddenly the car started to hesitate. I pressed the gas down more but the car continued to lose power. The car did continue to drive, but only at about 35 mph. I was luckily very close to a rest station on the New Jersey Turnpike. And as I was coming up to a toll, the rest of the traffic was slowing down. If this had happened a few miles later, I certainly could have been in an accident as I slowed down and the rest of the cars would have continued to speed by. The car was towed to my Kia dealer as the check engine light was flashing and I did not want to drive it there due to the distance I was from the dealership. Their analysis found that cylinder #1 fuel injector was stuck in an open position. This caused the spark plug...
.The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an intersection, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated he was able to pull over in a parking lot and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,673.
Kia stated this “the heads are blown and not repairable after the threads were pulled through the block.A replacement engine is quite expensive, $13,433.85+tax.” The coolant leaked and kia repair was not sure whether the heated engine caused the fluid to leak or whether the fluid leaked causing engine to over heat. Still owed $5k on this car at time of loss. Kia refused to consider repair under Goodwill.
Oil burning fast, oil light never came on to notify me of low oil levels. Car stalled and is now making knocking sounds. I have to have my car towed to the dealership to see what is wrong with it.
In January 2022, as I was driving approximately 45 mph, I happened to check my dashboard to see my temperature gauge was on “H” without any warning lights and light smoke coming from beneath the hood. I was approximately two miles from my home so I turned on the heat at full blast to draw some of the heat from the engine to the vehicle's cabin. After checking under the hood, I noticed the coolant level was below normal and based upon that observation, drove it to a nearby auto repair and service location for further review. Two days later, ! was informed that a gasket on the coolant side of the engine had failed and an engine replacement was necessary. They further suggested I contact my dealer to determine whether the engine replacement would be covered under warranty or was part of a recall. After contacting my local Kia...
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,101.
My 2016 Kia Sorento stopped as I pulled in my driveway. Engine was seized up and I had no oil light indication, or any light of any kind before this happened. Took it to dealer and they said I had to replace motor. They wanted $10,000 to replace it. It only had 70,220 miles on the motor. I’ve driven a couple dozen cars over my life time and have never had an engine fail. This was is January 2022.
Took vehicle in 2 day after I received recall notice.Dealership availability was 2 weeks away they told me I needed a starter and few sensors and my bill would $1700. After borrowing the funds called to pick vehicle up and was told by manager he let his master technician take a look at it trying to figure out why I needed a starter. Master technician turned the engine and it locked. They say I’ll have to replace the engine at the cost of $8000. Reason waited to late to bring recall in. Which is insane, I still owe $10,000 on the vehicle that’s not running. Your facilitation in this matter is both wanted and appreciated. Respectfully
Bought this vehicle used, at 98k miles, regularly serviced for oil changes, wasn’t due for an oil change for about 1k more miles and while driving down an interstate- the vehicle would not go above 65 mph. Pulled over and the oil was low, got it home and had the oil changed, still had issues so had it taken to a full service shop at 106k miles where I was told it was just a misfire so they replaced spark plugs and coil packs, drove it for a total of 30 minutes after picking up and the check engine light began flashing so I took it back to the shop where they told me there was knocking in the engine and it would need to be replaced.
While on the highway and driving 75 miles per hour, the car engine seized with no warning at all. There were no warnings on the dash and the engine completely died. The mechanic said he has already had 3 of the exact same instances happen this week alone. The mechanic himself had the same exact issue happen. He explained there was oil in it, and this is a nationwide problem with Kia Sorento's. My dealer said they can't even diagnose the car for two months! Once it's approved to fix, it will be another 2-3 months! The car only had 94,500 miles on it. I asked the dealer what folks are doing and she said they're buying "beater" cars in the meantime. Well we are all left with no trade in value for our car, we have no transportation for 6 months, and vehicles are at an all time high...
While I was driving on the highway my car jumped then the engine light came on and the car just died. They was this really weird smell that was coming from the car as I was pulling over. I then opened the hood of the car and the engine was smoking. I looked under the car and oil was coming out from the bottom engine block. I grabbed my stuff and walked as far away as I could because I was scared the car was going to catch fire.
The engine is knocking. You can hear it when the car is stopped. The engine has gradually been burning oil. The oil comes on 3500 miles after a synthetic oil change consistently. This is has occurred since 80k miles. The car is currently at 94k miles.
in August of 2021 I received a mailer notifying me of a recall & software update to prevent my engine from blowing up. I immediately scheduled the software update for the begining of September and that was completed. In October of 2021 I was driving the vehicle when it began to make an odd noise. No dashboard lights were triggered -so I tried to get to my next stop to evaluate, on the way the vehicle remained on but the ability to use the gas and actually increase speed ceased. It was sputtering when I was able to pull off into a parking lot and the check engine light finally appeared. We evaluated the oil and it was dry. No oil lights ever appeared. Had this occurred on a highway or busy roadway this could have had a tragic ending. The vehicle was regularly serviced per service schedule. The vehicle...
The Head Bolt was stripped, because it was entered backwards causing the Head Gasket to blow, the right-side cylinder head to be replaced, along with the oil filter housing, because it was cracked. The Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Engine could've locked while driving, killing us, and others. The problem was inspected by the manufacturer, warranty representatives, and Kia mechanics. After a BG Cooling system Service was completed the smell of antifreeze/coolant stayed with the vehicle. A recheck by the Kia mechanic found the flush was blocked, and they re-flushed the cooling system. After that the temperature gage was moving from hot to cold, the fan continued to stay on after the vehicle was shut off.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH the vehicle experienced an unknown electrical failure and was taken to an unknown dealer; however, the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and stated that no issues were found. On another occasion while driving 35 MPH and depressing the brake pedal while she was approaching a STOP sign, the vehicle jerked abruptly, stalled, and lost electrical power. The contact stuck her arm out of the window to notify the vehicle behind her. The contact depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle but it felt rigid and failed to respond. The vehicle continued to roll until coming to a complete stop. The contact stated that the vehicle restarted independently. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact then continued to drive the vehicle; however, the vehicle was jerking while driving. The contact pulled into a...
in September 2021 between regular oil changes, lost most of oil and check engine light on. After using many quarts of oil, service center replaced the valve cover gaskets needed. Misfiring of engine traced to cylinder damage due to loss of oil. Evaluation and diagnosis by local independent service center, recommended replacing engine.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The oil warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had been taken monthly to the dealer since August 2021 for an oil consumption test. The contact was informed that the vehicle consumed a quart and a half of oil every 800 miles, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,630.
Driving on the highway, the check engine light came on and the car began running rough. I pulled over off the highway as soon as I could and had the car towed. I was told the car has no compression on cylinder 3 and has codes P0300, P0301, and P0303. Kia tells me I need a new engine at estimated cost of $8800. Prior to this event the vehicle has been burning excessive oil (no oil light on despite once needing to add 4 quarts). Dealership did 2 oil consumption tests on separate occasions and told me it was burning oil within normal limits and took no action.
Timing chain broke with no warning and only 70114 miles one car.
I was driving on the NJ Turnpike in about 70 miles per hour and then suddenly I hear a big noise coming from my engine (clack and clack). Then my car stopped and needed to call a towing truck to take it to the mechanic and according to the mechanic I will need to replace motor(engine) to drive your car again. My car is on the parking lot from my house.
The check oil light did not illuminate, a oil change was not due for another 1,200 miles. The engine shut down and needs a 100% replacement totaling over $6,000 in repairs. if something as simple as the oil light emitted the car would not have been drove on.
my car cut off out of nowhere
Vehicle has always been serviced through KIA service center so upon taking the vehicle into service for a sudden severe oil leak repair and to service the water pump as fluid was not circulating through the radiator, and while all the services were done they found the vehicle still over heating so they did a compression/block test and found blown head gaskets. As stated on the invoice of the service done : Vehicle Needs Engine Replacement. I paid for Labor and Parts for Services done for a total of $1539.49 and had to tow the vehicle from the KIA service center back to my residence Inoperable. It should be noted after this event I have research that the KIA 3.3L v6 engine has had this same occurrence for many KIA owners with this engine. They also have filed complaints, with no recalls from KIA on this defective engine. In all...
The purpose of this complaint is to ask for help to get my 2016 Kia Sorento engine problem fixed. The engine oil consumption issue is a known issue. My check engine light started flashing and the vehicle went into Limp Mode. I contacted the Kia headquarters (July 23,2021). My Sorento was towed to ALM Kia in Union City, GA where it sat for 10 weeks waiting for them to evaluate the vehicle. I moved my Sorento to Rick Case Kia for evaluation and repair on October 13. They change the spark plugs and topped of the oil. However, it was consuming oil at a rate of 3-1/2 quarts every 1000 miles. The Kia Dealership is reluctant to fix the engine of my 2016 Kia Sorento, and the service advisor at Rick Case Kia said make sure to keep oil in the engine. I did that faithfully. Since then I’ve had...
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to her residence. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.
Car uses oil frequently, even after I get an oil change. The oil light does not come on when oil is low. It is low before my oil changes. On 1/22/22 my check engine light is on and it says P303 with cylinder 3. Replaced the coil and the check engine light is still on. The engine is sputtering and it takes 2-3 times to start. This started all of a sudden. It is frustrating because I took it to a Kia dealership last year and told them the problem. They told me it was a recall but it was only for up to 100,000. So they only put oil in it and basically sent me my way. So there are two issues going on and It doesn't matter the mileage because several Kias are having identical issues.
Car is currently being worked on. I was told I needed a new ENGINE. The car ran hot one day I immediately added Antifreeze and parked the car when I started it again it ran fine. The next week it ran hot again and now I'm being told I have to pay 9000 for a new engine. No check engine lights came on and no warning. I'm out of a car because I don't have the money for the new engine.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that they were totally booked up. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called another local dealer Ed Voyles Kia of Smyrna – Atlanta (2145 Cobb Pkwy SE, Smyrna, GA 30080, (770) 952-2621) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic by the insurance company. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. No further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
I was sold a 2016 Kia Sorento, VIN# [XXX], by salesman [XXX] and [XXX] from " Ride 4U Level up auto sales located at 5599 34th street north, Saint Petersburg FL 33714. Upon Purchase, I took the car to get an oil change and have been consistent with top offs every other week at the local Jiffy Lube. On December 15, 2021, I Was on the interstate with my kids in the vehicle. Out of nowhere, no ignition warnings or alerts, Stopped. I noticed I was pushing the gas but the car wasn't accelerating. Scared beyond measure with my kids in the car ranging from ages 16 to 11 months old, I panicked but got us over to the median lane. Once the car came to a complete stop, I called a tow company. Once they arrived, they checked the car for any codes, which showed nothing. I called [XXX],...
There was no warning light to tell me that my engine was almost out of oil. I was checking my dipstick to see my oil level and was shocked to see that there was almost no oil on the stick. This engine definitely burns through oil faster than it should and you can see there are scorch marks on my dipstick.
I was accelerating to pass another vehicle, and when I got passed the other car, my engine shut off. I could not accelerate. All I could do was coast to the shoulder. My engine light was on at that point, as was my oilcan light. My car was dead on the side of the road. I turned it off and tried to turn it back on again, but the engine would not turn over. Only the electrical system was working. I had it towed to a shop, where I was told that this was a "known problem" with Kia engines, but I had never had any issues with the vehicle before. They replaced my engine, at a cost of $8000.
Vehicle has been burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Last week the engine light came on. I checked the oil and added 2 quarts. The engine light didn't go off. I checked the code using a engine code reader. It stated a P0303 code. My auto parts store said it was most likely an ignition coil on cylinder 3. I replaced ignition coils and the engine light was still on. The car lost power and made some knocking noises. The car was towed to Ft. Bend Kia. They advised that the engine was blown and zero compression on cylinder 3. I have read 100's of complaints on this particular model blowing engines and Kia not standing behind correcting them. I am hoping to find a class-action lawsuit for this issue.
Sat Jan 8, I was on my way to Charlotte,NC from Cola, SC; vehicle started losing power and eventually stopped. I called my husband to come and get me. We left the car overnight and picked it up the next morning. It started and we were able to drive it home. The next day it started doing the same thing. Took it to a mechanic that checked it and said that one of the cylinders was not firing.
This car is consuming oil at an alarming rate. There is not an oil leak on the ground or black smoke from the tailpipe. I have taken it into the shop and was informed that the oil consumption is in the acceptable range for Kia. I have to add over four quarts of oil every 3,000 miles between oil changes. With that much oil sitting in the engine burning off at some time or another is a fire risk. Also the warning light for a low oil does not come on. In my experience with this vehicle it has only flashed one time and when I checked the oil there was nothing on the dipstick. I have turned this information into Kia and my extended warranty company and neither one want to take responsibility and properly fix this motor with the known issues. Apparently my vehicle is not the only...
Oil leak brakes out stopped running makes knocking noise when pushing gas pedal
This vehicle has 64,554 miles on it and is under six years old. The oil has been changed regularly per the manufacturer's instructions, The engine is using an excessive amount of oil, 3/4 of a quart in less than 500 miles. This has to be due to a manufacturer's design flaw or production flaw. The engine is under a manufacturer's warranty for 10 years/100,000 miles. From abundant information available in the public domain, the manufacturer will not address this problem. It is available for inspection upon request. If the engine oil usage while driving causes the oil level to drop too low it could cause a catastrophic failure of the engine and an immediate stoppage of the vehicle while in traffic, putting my safety or the safety of others put at risk. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. From abundant information...
The car was well maintained and oil was full but the engine started knocking over a short period and then came to a stop when switched to reverse. It can be turned off and on but the sound would continue. The gear shift and the steering would lock.
Pulled up to stop sign car stalled. Would not turn over. After a while it started, but was knocking. Called my Grandpa and he said engine was low on oil and connecting rod was knocking, No warning light ever came on. The safety issue at the time was that I was in a rural area with my 2 year old daughter in about 45 degree weather. c
Driving on highway, vehicle lost power. Ultimate diagnosed as a seized engine. Car was towed to our mechanic. After contacting Kia, they had us tow it to a local Kia dealer. After they diagnosed the same seized engine, they said they would not pay for repair, despite their being a class action suit settled by them. Car was brought back to our mechanic and a used engine was put in.
The engine is failing with the light on. It is not getting enough power and is a safety risk. I only have had the car for a year and a half and the dealership I have gotten it from won't do anything. It has had a air compression test, new spark plugs, and has been reviewed by multiply parties saying it is not deem road safety. I called the Kia dealership and it says all the recalls were done but it doesn't seem like it. They are saying i pretty much need a new engine, I have not even had the car that long.
