Twice now my 2016 Kia GDI has had the same problem as many others. I had my oil changes made and they said there was no oil in the car. the oil light never came on. I am afraid to drive my car. Has there been a recall on this. or for a engine recall. My car is under warranty. Is
The transmission of the 2016 Kia Sorento is now disabled. The car is currently undergoing repair at a Kia Dealership and Service Center. Kia has inspected the vehicle, and it has been determined that the engine needs replacing. Leading up to the engine failing, there were no signs of a repair needed. No check engine lights, oil light, etc. Nothing. The car seemed to be running just fine. Driving on the highway going about 65mph, the car began to shake violently and eventually slowed down. Only at that point did the oil and check engine light appear.
This is the 2nd time. First time back in May 2022. Engine quite , no oil showing on stick while on the interstate. Had a mechanic look at it, usable to gind an oil leak, and replaced the fuel injection system. Told to only use mid grade which I have. Then my 2016 Kia Sorento's engine just quit again while driving down the interstate. With no warnings light or notification alerts the vehicle started loosing power, a loud clicking noise in the engine then it just stopped, cut off. I was able to roll off a ramp to stop. Checked the oil with nothing showing on the stick and had recently just had oil changed with 5 quarts put in.
Car started to overheat, high temp alert, heater would not warm. Repair shop did high pressure test for head gasket leak, no problems found- Car continues to use Antifreeze (no drips found on cardboard placed under car in garage), car runs well, but a/c, heater do not perform well. spending time at money at repair shop, no answers-
While on a road trip my car started making a clicking sound when I would push the gas pedal to accelerate and the check engine light came on. I was going to have it checked out when I got to my destination as I was driving with my two children. As we neared our location, and I was driving up a hill, when I pressed the gas it would not accelerate. I was able to get it to an auto repair shop. They diagnosed it with needing new spark plugs and coils. I agreed to the repairs. When the mechanic when to start the work, he noticed that the engine was in bad shape and that he recommended it be towed to a dealership as there have been multiple issues with Kias and having engine issues. I had it towed and opened a case with Kia. I learned about the...
i was merging into traffic on the expressway and when i stepped on the gas the vehicle wouldnt accelerate and died on me, i was able to coast to the side of the expressway, the vehicle sputtered when i attemted to restart, and when i put in drive it died. once it was towed home, i was able to start it and back it up to the garage like 3 feet. but it was sputtering and shaking. this vehicle was purchased used, and the dealership replaced the headgasket approximately 3 months ago. i purchased it 4 months ago. now i'm having problems again and don't know how i'm going to fix this on going problem.
We have to constant add oil to the engine in between our 3000 mile oil changes, at least a quart or more. There are no oil leaks anywhere on the engine. The engine makes a loud "ticking" noise and doesn't have the power. The transmission also has issues shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. We have even noticed from time to time a smell of gasoline from what seems to be coming from under the vehicle, but no signs of it leaking anywhere. Also the gas pedal doesn't always have the same "feel" when pushing it
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle loss motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
Engine failed. Car received all maintenance and was burning oil and no leaks detected. It has the Theta II engine that is known to fail.
My vehicle began blowing cold air instead of heated air. Then the engine began over-heating and it cracked the radiator. After radiator was replaced my 2016 Sorento continued to blow cold air and continued to overheat. KIA dealership says I don't qualify for recall repairs. My mechanic says I do. My mechanic says my vehicle is not safe to drive. I want KIA to FIX MY 2016 Engine problem. On December 2, 2022 my vehicle overheated and began spewing antifreeze. I am glad there wasn't a fire.
My 2016 Sorento started using oil in between oil changes beginning November 2022 after recall repairs and other repairs completed by the KIA dealership. We’re now adding oil every other day, checking the oil almost daily. There is no sign of oil leak where vehicle is parked, does not smoke and no warning lights of low oil pressure. Kia should be made to fix these cars! I took good care of my car with regular oil changes and overall maintenance. This is obviously a case of a bad product on Kia's part, and they should be made to stand by their work!
while i was driving on the road, the car installed. i pulled over on the shoulder and i started the car and the engine started knocking. I change the oil on the car regularly and on time. I didnt see any engine warning lights or anything. I am going to tow the car to a kia dealership and see what they say
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage as approximately 84,000.
While driving down the road at highway speeds, the engine died. Losing power brakes and steering. I was able to move over to the shoulder. The engine is seized. Oil changes done every 3,500 miles and with full synthetic and a kia branded filter every time. I believe the 2016 2.4L engine has an internal oil problem. There are 617 complaints on the 2016 Sorento, and every one of them that states Engine, is a seized engine. That's only the people that thought to complain. I have found hundreds of comments on youtube videos and several friends that own similar (2015 2.4L Sorento) that have all had to replace their engines from loss of power at highway speeds. I was passing a car when the Sorento engine died and had to navigate back to the left lane and onto the should with no power steering or brake assist, all while...
My 2016 Sorento started using oil in between oil changes last summer. Per Kia dealership's instructions, I performed an "oil consumption test" which resulted in being told that it was using oil, but not enough to qualify for any type of repairs or assistance from Kia. I continued getting the oil changed on schedule and adding additional oil in between changes, checking the oil almost daily. Now, my engine has completely locked up and have been told I need a new engine, at my own expense of course. Kia should be made to fix these cars! I took good care of my car with regular oil changes and overall maintenance. This is obviously a case of a bad product on Kia's part, and they should be made to stand by their work!
Excessive consumption of oil. At my last oil change, I was told that my motor was completely dry. Engine knocks and shuts off. Need to monitor and top off motor oil every week.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while the brake pedal was depressed, she placed the vehicle in park; however, the RPM’s increased rapidly and the engine revved. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that her husband turned off the vehicle and disconnected and reconnected the battery cables however, he restarted the vehicle and the failure recurred. The contact stated that she notified multiple dealers of the failure and was informed that no appointments were available until February of 2023. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V089000 (Vehicle Speed Control). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximate 110,000.
Vehicle uses excessive amount of engine oil. It burns appx a quart of oil every 750 miles. There is no evidence of a leak in the driveway or on the undercarriage of the car. Informed dealer and was told it may be a bad oil drain plug. This is not evidenced by any visible oil loss. Loss of oil in this amount could cause engine failure where traffic conditions would put driver and other vehicles at risk.
October 30th 2022 I was driving with my 3&4 yr old son's after dropping my fiance off to fish. I had run to the store and on the way back to pick him up the car completely died without ANY waring at a Stop sign. Everything just shut down Completely! I called a tow truck and he was unable to jump me so the car was towed. The mechanic said my engine was seized and sounded like it had bolts rattling around the engine, he also mentioned he has seen this in 5 engines this past couple weeks!!! I was recommended to bring it to a Kia dealership to further inspect. I found paperwork for an extended warranty on Oil Pressure Switch Leaking, the dealership only looked at this part and said it was ok and the warranty doesn't cover the engine only that part. The dealer and mechanic said...
We purchased a 2016 KIA Sorrento from JTs Chrysler Jeep Dodge located at 5215 Sunset Blvd, Lexington, SC 29072 on September 27, 2021. In February of 2022, we had the oil changed and it the vehicle seemed to be burning oil but no oil leaks. We took the car to the Galeana Kia dealership on Greyston Blvd and they were backed up for months. The car has sat dormant for the past 5 to 6 months as we were searching for who could work on the vehicle. We took the vehicle back to Galeana Kia and they informed us that the #2 cylinder had no compression. They further proceeded to share with us that a recall was issued several years ago for an ECU upgrade and KSVS(not sure what that is) and this would have given them a code for KIA to authorize replacing the engine. Their claim from KIA...
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken in for a routine oil change. After the vehicle was retrieved, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the oil was low but found no evident leaks. The vehicle was then towed to another independent mechanic who confirmed that the oil level was low. The mechanic determined that the vehicle was losing pressure and the spark plugs were changed, and another oil change was performed. The contact was informed there was no compression in cylinder #2. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for further diagnostic testing and repair. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a Kia dealer since the VIN was under recall. The dealer confirmed...
Car stalled on the major freeway at highway speed at 65 mph. With no advanced warning lights on dash. Lost power and stalled. Was able to steer without power steering over to the side of the road. Towed to the shop . Mechanic found #4 cylinder has no compression. Engine is making noise. I have problems with Engine using oil. Been to the dealership many to address the engine concerns. No help. Now the engine is inoperable.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made abnormal sounds with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, and the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the engine made abnormal knocking sounds before the vehicle stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was unable to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine rod bearing had failed. The dealer and the manufacturer informed the contact that they could not assist as the original owner failed to complete an unknown software update on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
I own a 2016 Kia Sorento. When the incident happened I was far away from home on a way to a weekend conference. I was driving in the left lane on a very busy 3-lane highway at high speed while the engine suddenly lost power, slowed down and started shaking. There were no warning lights beforehand until after the failure. The check engine turned on at the time when the failure occurred. The oil pressure light did not came on. Oil was checked prior to the trip because the car had been using excessive oil for the past several months. I had to refill the oil every week. I had the Knock Sensor Detection Software installed a few months before and I had the engine oil pressure switch/sensor replaced as well but it didn’t fix the oil consumption issue. The incident on the highway put myself and others at risk...
While driving out of state, my 2016 Sorento, the steering wheel totally stopped working .Terrifying experience! When we returned from trip I took it to a mechanic who told me the electric steering column was bad and had to be replaced. That was over 2,000.00. Then thought I had oil leak but was told this GDI engine burns oil fast & I have to add a quart every wk so it won’t run out. Kia needs to recall! Not fair to put our lives in jeopardy
While driving my 2016 Kia Sorrento northbound on I25, I was accelerating up a small incline on the highway, going 76 miles an hour, and all the sudden my car lost power and was not gaining speed. I was in the left lane, with cars behind me and on the right of me and my engine seemed to die out. I lost power and was unable to proceed, putting me in a seriously dangerous and potentially fatal position. No engine lights came on, no warning of anything wrong with the engine, the oil, nothing. I made my way to the shoulder of the highway and called for assistance. I turned off the car as it seemed to be overheating. Two days before my trip I had just changed my oil and had an all points inspection on the car. I restarted the car after a few minutes but was unable...
One afternoon when I started my Sorento (with Lambda Engine around 85,000 miles) I heard a loud tapping sound in the engine and saw the check engine light on. I took it in for an oil change and to get an opinion on the tapping sound at Jiffy lube. They told me I had no oil in the vehicle. They also noted no oil leaks and sludge in the engine. I took it in to the kia dealership the next day and they told me my timing chain was damaged and that I would need a new engine. I thought I was covered under the "special" 20 year warranty I had on the vehicle. My warranty claim was DENIED due to "improper maintenance"; not having sufficient oil change records and sludge being found under the valve cover. During my previous oil change 6 months & 8700 miles ago there were...
We were driving down the road and a rod went through my engine. We have always kept our oil changes up to date and maintenanced our car as soon as it’s needed it. We called Kia to ask them if we could get this fixed and Kia of Cookeville let us know it was under recall for an engine issue but because our software wasn’t updated it wouldn’t be covered. We then called Kia of Knoxville and they said it was covered under the recall but we would need to call a corporation number to see if the cost were covered. The corporation number wasn’t willing to corporate at all. He preceded to tell us because it wasn’t brought in there was nothing they could do. We have never received a letter saying we were under a recall. We had no idea. Please help I have 4 kids and no...
The vehicle has been consuming excessive amounts of oil resulting in the recommendation from the Ourisman Kia Dealership in Chantilly, Virginia that the engine be replaced. The only warning I had that there could be an issue was the oil light occasionally coming on for 3-5 seconds when turning off a highway exit or braking hard, etc. The car has been taken to the dealership 3 times in order to figure out what was going on for this specific issue, but it has been indirectly addressed prior to that. The first time the car was taken it was still under warranty, but the result that the engine needed replacement was not given until after the car was out of warranty. The dealership first performed an oil change and consumption test. I returned after 1000 miles for the results of the consumption test and was told my car was consuming oil...
While driving engine completely stopped with myself driving and my 2 year old in the car. No warning lights lit up beforehand until after the failure and after coming to a complete stop smoke could be seen coming from the engine bay underneath the hood. Now the car is disabled and unable to start. Vehicle has not been inspected yet as we are scheduled two weeks out for an appointment with the dealer shop.
The vehicle was running great then without any warning it stalled. I started it back up and the engine began knocking horribly. I got a diagnostic test done at Auto Zone and was told that I had a bad sensor in my engine. I took it in to the dealership and I was told that it had no oil, metal in the engine, and I had to replace it. I checked the oil the previous week and it had oil then.
Engine failed on the highway. Regular maintenance performed on vehicle. No warning lights came on before engine failure.
The engine in burning oil at a fast rate, also no check engine lights appear to inform you of an engine issue.
While driving car, a burning oil smell came thru car and I heard a bubbling noise under the hood. No indicator light came on. I immediately looked at the temp gauge to see it was sitting on hot. I pulled over and looked under the hood to find out that coolant was spitting out. After 45 mins of letting it cool down I checked the engine oil to find none, and the radiator had oil in it. My car is currently at the shop being taken apart.
Car started to overheat and no warning light came on. Found out there was no oil - oil light had not come on either. My car didn’t notify me that it was overheating and could have blown my engine.
Desconocido
Low oil light NEVER came on. Went in for a check and they said it was bone dry but the indicator light never came on.
I'VE HAD MY ENGINE REPLACED A MONTH AFTER HAVING MY CAR WHEN I FIRST GOT IT ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO. I RECIEVED THE LETTER FOR THE CURRENT ENGINE RECALL ABOUT FEBURARY OF THIS YEAR. MY HUSBAND AND I WAS O THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE END OF MARCH 2022 WHEN MY ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO A KIA DEALSHIP THE NEXT DAY (WHICH WAS A SATURDAY) AND THE GOT BACK IN TOUCH WITH ME THAT FOLLOWING MONDAY STATING IT WAS MY ENGINE BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. I HAVE TO PAY FOR BECAUSE IT WAS AT THIS TIME I LEARNED I NO LONGER HAD A WARRANTY ON MY CAR. PRIOR TO MY HUSBAND AND I TAKING THIS TRIP I JUST HAD MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE. AFTER THEY CHANGED MY OIL THE TECH...
2016 Kia Sorento with 123K miles with all recall completed and maintained. We were driving on backroad where all traffic were diverted because of highway 101 closure when the car suddenly have the MIL blinks then stalls and would not start back up again.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle lost power and stalled. The contact was able to maneuver the vehicle off the road when the check engine warning light, the oil pressure warning light, and an unknown warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was awaiting a call back. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.
I was driving the car at approximately 40 mph. The engine light flashed on briefly. I immediately lost power and had no acceleration. The light went off but the car stopped. The incident put myself and others at risk as I lost power and was in an area where I shouldn't have stopped and it became a traffic hazard. The car is currently at the KIA dealership. There were not prior lights, messages or symptoms prior to the failure. I am the first and only owner with approx 55 k miles. Never had an issue before. Dealership conducted all oil changes and maintenance.
The engine and yes it is available for inspection The Car stalled at a red light at a busy intersection on my way to work I was afraid I was going to be hit The car is at a mechanic shop There was no warnings lights it all the sudden started tapping and then stalled and would not crank back up
I have a 2016 Kia Sorento that was purchased Certified Pre-Owned on 5/18/2022. On 9/16/2022, I was driving the car at approximately 50 MPH when the care began to lose significant power. The car completely lost power making it hard to drive and adjust steering. I was able to safely pull over; however, being stranded in the dark as a woman is not safe, and I feel had another car been in front of or near me, I could have easily crashed. At that time, the car would not restart, and I noticed when I tried to start the car, smoke coming from under the hood. I sat for about 30 minutes, tried to start the car again, the car would not start. Prior to the car shutting down, there was no warning. The engine light has never been on in the car. What I did notice is the engine...
Last year driving on a highway, my car suddenly lost power. I was able to coast another mile onto a 2 lane roadway, then it just died*every light on panel came on & went off. I was very lucky & very scared that no one rear ended me. My car was towed to a Kia dealer where the RECALLED ENGINE was Replaced. Now here it is a year later & the Knocking noise has been reported & videoed by me to the Kia mechanics(nothing done). This past saturday(9-17-2022) we were in the car & the exact same thing happened(backed up & car was on but would not do anything*No Warning Lights). After sitting for a few minutes we were able to start the car (this time) & went home, called Kia mechanic and left a message. I was on my way out of town but definitely changed my mind about...

In our 2016 Kia the engine seized according to the mechanic at AAA. There was no warning. The car ceased operating going 45 miles per hour. It powered down with no dash light indicators to give warning and no other signs of engine failure in the middle of a merge lane leaving me stranded at the end of the merge lane at ask risk of causing a major accident. No lights came on (check engine and battery) until the car stopped working. I easily could have been rear-ended or caused a major backup on several roads in the area, putting myself or others at risk of injury or death. Per NHTSA, there is no active unrepaired recall on this vehicle. However, research indicates many Kia Sorentos of the same year were recalled. Kia has been contacted several times. Once they indicated there was no active recall on this car but...
My wife's 2016 kia sorento only had 86,000 miles on it and is knocking bad! So it's been sitting and I've seen others recanted for the same thing. It's a rod knocking no mistaking it! Very disappointed in the service, it had the 2.4 l so I tight it would be a good motor because we had a2010 optima with the same engine and put over 100,000 miles on it. It was running perfect and then it started knocking!
The engine has been burning oil - I have to put oil in every week. No leaks are evident. Three days ago, I began hearing a loud knocking when I start the car. Took to local mechanic, he said it's the bottom end. Needs a new motor. No warning lights have come on.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power and stalled. While inspecting under the hood of the vehicle, there was smoke, steam, and fluids coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the head gasket was blown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 51,248.
