2014 KIA SORENTO Engine Problems

Was driving down the road and my car started to make a weird nise then just shut off. Was ot able to get it to run after.

My son was driving, heard a knocking noise. The engine ceased and he lost steering. Luckily he avoided an accident. A recall is out on 2014 Kia Sorento with 2.4L engines. My car is a 3.3L DOHC 24v. No recall but plenty of complaints. My mechanic told me I need a new engine. i left a message with Battleground Kia last week with no response. The engine and power steering lights were on after the incident

Bought this vehicle on 10/18/2017 it had 93,675 miles on it. As soon as it reached 100K it began to burn oil extremely quickly!!! It needs a new Engine, which KIA should have to replace!!!

The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Total engine failed at 105000 miles. Rod Bearing Failure is what was the diagnosis. We were complaining since 38000 miles of the engine not sounding right and each time a technician certified by Kia told us that nothing was wrong. It seized up while after a brief stop on the side of a road. Kid and wife were in the car and were able to coast it back to the side of the road out of traffic. Total engine replacement is required and this same type of issue is on the 4 cylinder model of this engine that has been recalled, but not 6 cylinder model.

wasnt notified about recall of hecu til 3 days ago.had Engine replaced due to recall.now my catalytic converters are shot and they want me to pay for them .with all the recalls on parts it was there stuff that caused problems

This vehicle has a GDI motor which causes the oil to burn.

1.engine top end knock worn components , oil consumption , loss of power , dies at idle , it is available for inspection the issue is being inspected by an independent service center. no warning icons were present at failure or prior to failure, all fluids were at operating levels. unit had to be retrieved and towed 90 miles to repair facility. 2. brake lights intermittent bulbs have been replaced multiple times sockets are scorched unit has been to dealer multiple times for this issue without lasting resolution.

My wife started to drive the car to lunch and it began to hesitate, jump and lurch. Inspection by a licensed mechanic revealed that the connecting rod in cylinder four came apart and the piston cracked the engine block. This is the same 3.3L V6 engine that Kia has numerous recalls on, affecting over 600,000 vehicles. Although our particular VIN is not listed, I feel this is related to the problems associated with this engine.

Driving around 55mph motor locked up pulled over to side of road motor would not turn over

We purchased the 2014 kia sorento from a private party on May 12, 2022 and had driven it less than an hour on the highway with the cruise control set when a chirping sound came from the engine, followed by a sound like that of a tiny machine gun and then a big BOOM that shook the entire car. The person following me lost sight of the car because of the huge cloud of amoke making visibility impossible and we almost caused an accident. I do not know if the engine had been replaced as part of the recall but we paid $7500 for the vehicle we drove less than an hour and narrowly missed causing an accident.

Kia Sorento SX Limited 2014 All maintenance done on time/early at Kia dealerships throughout history of ownership. Engine light came on with odd sounds. Took in immediately for repair to the Kia dealership. We have been informed that oil is leaking throughout engine system and cooling system which has also put wear and damage on the transmission. This causes a safety issue because it could cause a fire when driving. Upon further review many of the 2014 Sorentos have had this same issue with low mileage and have ended up catching fire. There was no warning or signs of anything going wrong it just happened. The light and sounds started the next day it was taken in and there was nothing we could do. We are having to sell the vehicle for parts so we can get a new vehicle. Service report is available.

Although no warning light, we heard a slight knock with the engine over the course of a couple days, intermittently. Called the dealer to schedule appointment. Very next day knocking significantly louder and undriveable, so had towed. Engine now needs to be replaced at 135,000 miles. Not covering because oil changes done outside of dealership.

On 2/15/22, I accelerated to pass another car while driving home from work. As soon as I accelerated, my car stopped running. I coasted to the next turnoff from a busy street (about 1 block) and stopped at the curb in a residential area. The control panel/dashboard was completely dark, then suddenly lit up again. I purchased a 2014 Kia Sorento on March 15, 2022. On April 1, 2022, after 2 weeks of normal driving, I was driving the car to the Kia dealership for them to inspect the smell of gasoline fumes, and suddenly, the oil light and engine light turned on, so I pulled over. I saw smoke coming out of the engine so I ran out. Then flames appeared and engulfed the vehicle while I waited for firefighters to arrive. Luckily, no one was hurt. Insurance is currently investigating the cause.

104K miles and motor seized up. Engine oil is fine, all fluids and proper maintenance done. Motor begins ticking as soon as the car is put in drive. Per mechanic the motor is getting ready to blow. I expected more from this vehicle as it has been very properly maintained. No fluids leaked, just lost power and started the moaning and clicking noise.

Engine issues like all the others reported but they state no issues per my vin which the issue so am having is the same as all those other engine issues of same make and years

03/23/2022 11:06:18 3/23 Yes, I still have concerns and I have told Kia numerous times to email or text me but instead they conveniently call while I'm at work 7am-4pm so I can't answer the phone. Due to the continuous oil burning issue that Kia refuses to fix or address eventhough I have agreed to pay, the mechanic now says there's a knock sensor issue which makes it unsafe to drive. I have reached out to Kia for months now, with still no resolution in sight.. If this case is above your pay grade or administrative power, please direct my case to someone who can assist in a speedy and competent manner. While pulling into my driveway, my car completely died. Shut off and steering wheel stiffened. Was able to restart it and it presented a check engine light and a knocking noise. Took it to Kia dealership and was told the engine needed to be replaced. I was quoted $15,000 for a new engine/9,000 for used. This repair is not covered in the Kia engine settlement. Vehicle is up to date on maintenance and have proof of prior maintenance. Car was brought into a mechanic within days of the knocking noise and check engine light and now it is not drive-able for fear of engine fire or explosion.

For several months I have been adding 1 quart of oil to my 2014 sorento bi-weekly there is no evidence of an external leak, residue or smoke coming out exhaust. When I don’t add the oil the car stalls, shutters and makes sound during acceleration. I have taken in to dealership but they could not see any issues.

I was driving on the high way and took an exit. I started to smell something from my car so I turned it off at a stop light. I looked briefly at the dash but no lights where on. Then I saw smoke coming from the hood of my car. So I put my emergency flashers on and got out within seconds of getting out the smoke turned to flames so I called 911. Entire front of my car was in flames and a couple small explosions happend I believe the first one was the air bags but the second sent my hood flying upwards. My entire inside of the car was chard by the time the fire rescue showed up. There was a line of traffic behind me that stretched close to a mile since it was during traffic night. When starting up the vehicle it has a cold start & the cold start can last longer then the vehicle warming up. You can hear the engine components inside while it’s warming up. After staring it up it seems like there is no oil in the vehicle, which it eats oil up which is uncommon

Engine seized on the PA turnpike leaving my daughter stranded. Dealer repair costs 19k to replace an engine. Apparently there is a defect that causes a bearing to fail causing major engine damage. There apparently was a class action lawsuit that was settled for the r act problem that I have but just not for my motor. My motor was last serviced by a Kia dealer.

Car ran out of oil within 4,000 of oil change upon purchasing car. No indicator light came on ever for low or no oil. It cut off at 70 mph on highway. I got on shoulder, turned key off then restarted. Upon doing so every time the car gets to rpm level for gear shift it starts knocking. So if the cars engine is knocking the knock sensor should through service engine light which it did not. I have a) the dealer who rode with me to show him and it started to knock and shut off with him in the car with no check engine light on. Got back to their repair shop to which both mechanics witnessed the engine knocking with no check engine lights (MIL. Malfunction indicator light. Failure)

Pearl white paint is peeling from vehicle from above windshield and along frame.

While driving car at normal speeds under normal conditions, ball bearing and connecting rod blew through engine creating a large hole in bottom of engine block, thus,causing entire engine to be blown. There is only 139k miles on vehicle. There is a safety recall for this very reaon on CERTAIN 2014 Kia Sorrentos. That recall is 17V224000. Upon calling Kia customer service, they claimed my vehicle was exempt frim this recall, however, this very issue happened to my well-maintained vehicle.

Engine locked up while driving on expressway. Car would not accelerate and became very difficult to control. One of the recalls stated that "bearings could slip and cause engine to seize up." Driver was able to safely get the car back, but car is disabled. Airport Kia, in Naples, FL where the car was purchased, was notified of the problem and the recall for this specific problem, but have been unwilling to help. If she was unable to control the car, could have killed herself or other drivers. Car has not been inspected because Kia dealership said she must have the car towed to dealership. On a recall problem, dealership should be responsible for the tow, but I feel they are bullying her because she is a 16 year old girl. This happened with no warning.

Recall notices have been sent to us regarding possible airbag deployment, electrical issues, and now HECU controls and the ABS system. Each time we get a notice, we contact the Kia dealerships in our area for repairs. Every time we have tried to bring in our vehicle for safety recall repairs, the dealership has made it impossible to do so. For example, when we called to make an appointment for one recall notice, we were told that no action was needed unless we heard a loud banging noise coming from the engine. We stated that we heard weird noises but not a loud banging. We were told that the dealership cannot do repairs unless we show evidence of the banging. Also, there have been electrical problems with the car since we bought it – the buttons malfunction, the airbag light is always on, etc. This was not regarded as evidence...

Kia refused to issue a recall for a known problem & refuses to fix vehicle & reimburse for unnecessary repair costs--have contacted their consumer center many times but they will not address problem--below is initial complaint I made on 06-09-2021, the first of many & all ignored to date: 06/09/2021 06:45:06 I have unnecessarily spent about $1000 replacing original factory equipment that was not faulty/not the problem all because you knew about the problems on the 2014-15 Sorentos but chose not to issue a recall to correct (as told by Master Tech at the local dealership)! Upon driving home from a family road trip, I was flagged down on the highway by a fellow driver saying my car was on fire from under the passenger backseat. There were no warning lights or alarms from the inside of the car, or on the dash. I pulled over and the fire engulfed the engine and soon the whole car. It burnt down to the frame, with absolutely nothing left inside but twisted metal. It was deemed a total loss. The fire inspector and police on the scene believe there was an issue with the electrical system that caused the fire. There is a report available with the Florida Highway Patrol. There are NO active recalls for the vehicle, but I was told by Kia there have been several fires in their 2014 models, including some when the vehicles weren't even on. After recall repairs their were no warning lights showing and diagnostics always came back clear. Car overheated in RED Hot with no engine alarms or anything. Mechanic stated it’s blown head gaskets

ONE DAY I HEARD A CLICKING WHILE DRIVING 65 ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I PULLED INTO TOWN AND SLOWED DOWN IT STOPPED. I HAD TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN I STARTED TO GO I HEARD THE CLICKING AGAIN. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN GOING 65, MY ENGINE REDUCED POWER AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS BLINKING. WHEN I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AT THE STOP SIGN AND STARTED TO GO SO I COULD PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC IT HAD A HARD TIME GETTING POWER TO GO. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEN TO FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE, BUT FROM WHAT I AM READING ONLINE, IT SEEMS KIA HAS ALOT OF ENGINE ISSUES. FINGERS CROSSED ITS UNDER WARRANTY AND IT CAN BE FIXED AS I JUST SPENT $3000.00...

2.4L ENGINE STARTED USING OIL AT 100,000MILES AND REPLACED PCV VALVE AND NO CHANGE. ENGINE NOW AT 120,000 MILES USES MORE OIL. THIS OCCURRED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT NOW USES 3 QUARTS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES.

I'VE ONLY HAD MY 2014 KIA SORENTO FOR A YEAR, FROM 2020-2021. I'VE NOTICED THESE PROBLEMS IN THE BEGINNING AND ASSUMED THEY WOULD WORK ITSELF OUT BECAUSE THE DEALER MENTIONED THAT THE CONDITIONS WERE MINOR BUT THEY ONLY PROGRESSED. I'M PUTTING OIL IN THIS VEHICLE EVERY THREE TO FOUR DAYS BECAUSE THE OIL STICK IS CLEAN ( INDICATING NO OIL). THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON. I'VE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS, INCLUDING THE MECHANIC THAT WORKS DIRECTLY WITH THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME BACK AND WHENEVER IT STARTED TO BLINK IT WOULD CAUSE MY VEHICLE TO JERK EXCESSIVELY AND FORCEFULLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND MAIN HIGHWAYS EACH TIME CAUSING THE SPEED TO DECREASE .
