My car having gas leak under hood. Strong gas smell comes from ac vent.its a safety hazard
The car engine started on fire while I was driving after all the recalls were fixed and new engine installed. The car was completely destroyed the whole engine compartment was completely burned. Kia says it was an oil leak but that’s not true the car oil change was done regularly and was serviced within 3 months of the engine fire. I also had this vehicle parked inside my garage for 5 years and not a single drop of oil in the garage floor. Kia is also refusing to send me a full report of their findings from the fire inspection. Kia adjuster is acting in bad faith by not providing the fire report. The car engine was replaced new due to an earlier recall and within 10,000 miles the new engine caught fire. They don’t want to be liable for this engine fire but cars don’t just burn without any...
Coolant, oil compression, runs hot, to over headlights need replaced frequently
While driving car it suddenly lost acceleration. RMP's wouldn't go above 1.5. Speed wouldn't go above 20MPH. Check engine light came on. Was going up a hill with lots of cars behind me and suddenly could barely move. Made it to an Advance Auto and they ran diagnosis on the check engine light and it came up with 2 different codes, relating to fuel system and crankshaft. When I got the vehicle to my local mechanic they saw the codes also, and that the car had gone through 4 quarts of oil. I wasn't at the mileage for an oil change yet, so not sure why oil was almost gone. Mechanic did and oil change and issue was still not fixed. Stating engine needs to be replaced. Multiple reports of; Codes P0171 System too lean bank 1 P0138 O2 sensor circuit high (b1s2) P0087 Fuel pressure too low P0036 B1S2 *** frequent fuel pump and fuel injector replacements/ services due to defects in the system. Causing major damage in other systems including engine.***
Fuel pump/engine began failing before the engine locked up. I was driving down a country road and lost power. When I floored it the top speed was approx. 7 MPH. I did not have anywhere to pull over. It has been inspected by the manufacturer and they said it needs a new engine. There were no warning signs or anything. I don't know how to answer if the problem has been reproduced. Via Kia forums, this is a common issue that is usually handled with the extended warranty. I've contacted Kia and they admit I'm having issues. Quote from their email "We apologize about the issues you are having with your engine and fuel pump in your 2014 Kia Sorento."
Kia Corporate Complaint No. [XXX] We bought a used but Kia certified 2014 Kia Sorento with 29K mileage in Jul 2017. Ran great but check engine light came on 3 times. Well before 100K mileage, we took it to dealer service department and we’re advised it was an ‘electrical problem’ that reported a false code. Each time the check engine light was reset. Car ran great except for the false trouble lights. We were told that if the light did not blink, not really a problem. At 120K mileage, we got a code and took car to local garage. Mechanic changed 6 plugs but advised that No. 6 coil may need to be replaced. Engine overheated with no warning, Heater failed, Coolant wouldn't go through the system, replaced the T-stat, and it still continued to overheat with no warning or indication. I was driving with my 2.5year old in the middle of a busy street during the evening. Took it to a repair shop and was told they found coolant in the combustion chamber, and failed head gasket. They had to R7R both cylinder heads, replace the head gaskets, head bolts, t-stat, crank seal, oil pan gasket, timing cover gaskets and seals, Fuel injector - o - rings, fuel seals, fuel pump. They had to rethread and repair the bolts because they stripped. This was all fixed after i had to pay, $7,000. There was no warning lamps messages except for the 1 time overheating.
Hi, I'm dealing with my Kia Sorento SX 2014, rpm and acceleration problems, for over two long years, sometimes shut off itself, some times codes shows up but no all the time, already changed spark plugs, High pressure fuel pump and the connector, two injectors, starter, MAP sensor, etc. My mechanic tell me today that I need to change the wiring harness, so everything is just guessing and spending crazy money, also the dealer don't know the exactly is the problem, already two years with this frustration and still don't know what to do, please I really need a very professional advice in this incredible situation, some of the codes that shows up, if I'm lucky are: P0087, P0506, P2096, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0133, P0137 and so... but right now all of these disappeared, I read in the NHTSA web site about the problems with engine...
I experienced a deceleration when I stepped on the gas pedal to accelerate on the interstate. I was going 65mph at the time. The emission control warning light came on so I pulled off the next exit and called the Kia dealer. I turned around and headed back to take it in for diagnostic service and repair when it started making noises so I pulled off onto an exit and the engine stopped shortly afterwards. I could turn the engine on but it would not go so I called AAA to have it towed to the dealer. The steering was difficult as well. The dealer said the engine needed to be replaced and the clock spring needed to be replaced (air bag warning light was on). This experience was dangerous and I was fortunate not to be in heavy traffic and in an area where there was a safe enough...
During a moderate T-bone collision at the driver rear side quarter panel, the back seat of the vehicle almost immediately was in flame, injuring all three occupants, not fatally, fire originated underneath the rear seat near the refueling port, which had the cap in place.
I'm dealing with my Kia Sorento 2014 SX for about two years a bit more, with acceleration problems and sometimes shut off itself when still I'm in D drive and the scary part still on the road with my family, brought theToronto and because isn't codes sometimes they don't know what the problem is, different mechanics also tried and change: high pressure fuel pump, some injectors, spark plugs, starter and nothing of those parts fix my problem, I lived so scare anything come and happen in the highway, in October star showing some codes: P0506, P0087 and in November shows: P2096, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0137 and again P0087, all this codes are gone and never coming back to the dashboard, please I really need and advise with this apparently mysterious problem, please if you can leave a message to [XXX], [XXX] Thanks and happy new year...
I was taking my daughter to school and the car stalled and died I restarted it but it wouldn’t accelerate and I could hear rattling in my engine so it took me a minute but I got it back to my driveway. The Abs and traction control lights where on and low tire. No check engine lights or oil low. I called my friend Jeff who is a mechanic and he came and checked oil and it was a quart low and he said the motor was shot that the blow by when he took the oil cap off he stated it sounded like a wrisp pin loose in my motor I called Kia and they told me I had to have it towed they don’t provide that service. The cabin of the vehicle filled with gas fumes whilst driving the vehicle on 12/7/2022 through 12/10/2022. The fumes got so bad that myself the driver and passengers all got light headed and had to lower all windows and pull over to the side of the road to exit the vehicle and get some fresh air. The vehicle has not been inspected by a mechanic or associated Kia service department. The dash board ABS light and several other lights came on in the vehicle just before the incidents with the gas fumes started.
I was driving and my car started acting like it was stalling out. I pulled over and put it in park and turned off the engine. I tried to restart, didnt restart. Let it sit a minute, and tried to restart again, it did. I drove straight back home about 2 miles away and didn't drive it further. I was driving on the high way and took an exit. I started to smell something from my car so I turned it off at a stop light. I looked briefly at the dash but no lights where on. Then I saw smoke coming from the hood of my car. So I put my emergency flashers on and got out within seconds of getting out the smoke turned to flames so I called 911. Entire front of my car was in flames and a couple small explosions happend I believe the first one was the air bags but the second sent my hood flying upwards. My entire inside of the car was chard by the time the fire rescue showed up. There was a line of traffic behind me that stretched close to a mile since it was during traffic night. The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, there was an abnormal fuel odor detected coming from the vents. The contact pulled over and inspected under the hood of the vehicle and saw that there was a leak coming from the high-pressure fuel pump. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that there was a leak coming from the damaged high-pressure fuel line. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact had an engine replacement under warranty in May 2021. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V907000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine). The failure mileage was 60,800.
After recall repairs their were no warning lights showing and diagnostics always came back clear. Car overheated in RED Hot with no engine alarms or anything. Mechanic stated it’s blown head gaskets

WHEN DRIVING HOME I PULLED INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND STARTED TO SMELL SLIGHT GAS, WHEN I GET TO MY HOUSE A PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I HAVE BEEN LOCKED OUT OF CAR DUE TO KEYFOB NOT WORKING. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE OOENING THE HATCH AND SUNROOF. WHEN TRAVELLING ON A HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 70-73 MPH, AFTER 45 MINUTES TO ONE HOUR OF DRIVING THE CAR SHUTS ITSELF OFF. THE CAR STOPS COMPLETELY, THE ENGINE SHUTS ITSELF OFF, THERE IS NO POWER STEERING, AND NO AIR CONDITIONING AND NO LIGHTS. THE RADIO CONTINUES TO WORK, WHICH OF COURSE IS THE LEAST OF MY CONCERNS. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAITING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES THE CAR WILL START BACK UP AGAIN...UNTIL IT DOESN'T. THE KIA DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AT 88K MILES. LOST POWER/ACCELERATION ON HIGHWAY
ON SEVERAL OCCASION'S THE ENGINE WOULD JUST CUT OUT ALTOGETHER WHILE DRIVING. A COUPLE OF TIMES I HAVE EVEN SMELLED FUEL.
THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND WOULD NOT GO EVEN WHEN THE GAS WAS APPLIED. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP OIL WAS LEAKING ALL OVER THE GROUND. WHEN LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD, THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP BOLT HAD BEEN SHEERED OFF AND GAS AND OIL WERE SPEWING OUT. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY BLAMED THE PEOPLE WHO HAD DONE THE LAST OIL CHANGE 3,000 MILES AGO. AT THE SAME TIME THEY SAID THAT IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVEN 3,000 MILES IN THAT CONDITION. THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR UNDER THE WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH I ONLY HAVE 35,000 MILES ON THE CAR
THE END OF OCTOBER 2018 MY 2014 KIA SORENTO MOTOR BLEW UP. WE HEARD THE KNOCKING ON A WEEKEND, KIA SAID TO BRING IT IN AND IT STALLED HALFWAY THERE. HAD TO CALL MY INSURANCE BECAUSE KIA WOULD NOT PAY FOR TOWING. MY KIA HAD BEEN CHECKED THE YEAR BEFORE FOR THE ENGINE RECALL, OF COURSE IT PASSED. IT TOOK 2 MONTHS TO GET MY CAR BACK, THEY DID PROVIDE A RENTAL. A MONTH LATER (JAN. 2019) I SMELLED GASOLINE VERY STRONG IN MY CAR. HAD MY HUSBAND TEST DRIVE IT TO MAKE SURE THAT IS WHAT IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD JUST PUT IN A FULL TANK OF GAS. SURE ENOUGH I CALLED WARNER KIA OF PARKERSBURG AGAIN, ONCE AGAIN REFUSED TOWING EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY KNEW ABOUT THE ISSUE WITH THE FUEL LINES FROM THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. 2014 SORENTO ENGINE WAS REPLACED 9/2017@ SHAWNEE MISSION KIA PER RECALL SC147. BEFORE REPLACEMENT, THERE WERE NO CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUES. AFTER SINCE 3/2018, IT HAD FOUR (4) CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURES IN TEN (10) MONTHS & 4 REPLACEMENTS @4 DIFFERENT SHOPS LATEST 2/2019.ALL SHOPS SAID THEY FAILED DUE TO EXTREME OVERHEATING WHICH COULD ALSO CAUSE A FIRE. 3RD SHOP ALSO NOTED 'EXCESSIVE BLOW-BY', SAID IT'S NOT NORMAL FOR A NEW ENGINE WITH 20,000 MILES ON IT -- WHICH MY REPLACEMENT ENGINE SHOULD BE IF IT WAS CORRECTLY REPLACED WITH A NEW PROPERLY FUNCTIONING ENGINE IN 9/2017 (CAR HAD @140K. THEN) ALL 4 HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, TWICE ON HIGHWAY, TWICE ON CITY STREETS. 1ST TIME, OUT OF TOWN, ON HIGHWAY. ALL VERY DANGEROUS SUDDEN LOSS POWER/SPEED AND STALLING. SCARY. I AM A LITTLE PERPLEXED WITH YOUR JUDGEMENT CALL KIA...I OWN A 2014 KIA SORENTO THAT'S AS APART OF YOUR ENGINE RECALL...THE CAR 'PASSED' THE TESTS RAN ON IT TO DETERMINE IF A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED, ONLY TO HAVE THE ENGINE COMPLETELY CEASE GOING 50MPH ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN VIRGINIA...I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY ABOUT AN OPEN RECALL ON A FUEL PUMP ISSUE POTENTIALLY CAUSING FIRE...WHILE I WAS AWARE OF THIS SITUATION DUE TO THE NATIONAL NEWS THE ISSUE HAS RECEIVED I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THE SUPPOSED RESOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE...I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION TO DETERMINE 'IF THEY' THOUGHT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED...SO, LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT YOU WANT ME TO YET AGAIN TRUST PEOPLE THAT TOLD ME MY ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY FINE WHEN IT WASN'T TO NOW TELL ME I DON'T NEED A...
SIMPLE, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HERE THAT COMPLAINED ABOUT LOSS OF POWER. BUT I HAD A DIAGNOSIS BOTH BY AUTOZONE AND THE KIA DEALER. THE DIAGNOSIS IS: ERROR CODE P0717 TURBINE INPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR AND WIRING HARNESS FAULTY DUE TO CORROSION FROM MOISTURE GETTING IN FROM NOT HAVING ADEQUATE SEALING OR POOR QUALITY OF RUBBER SEAL. PULLING OUT OF STORES OR MY DRIVEWAY BECAME VERY DAMAGES AS YOU COULD IMAGINE AND I FEEL THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ADDRESS ANY AND ALL LOSS OF POWER ISSUE CAUSE IT CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH! I HOPE YOU AGREE AND TAKE ACTION TO HELP US ALL OUT PLEASE.
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY MY CAR DIED OUT OF NOWHERE. IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN AFTERWARDS. ALL POWER SHUTS OFF AND I AM ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES BUT BECOMING MORE FREQUENT BUT STILL RANDOM.
LAST WEEK WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 65MPH MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON(STAYED ON) AND MY VEHICLE STARTED KNOCKING. I WENT HOME PARKED IT FOR THE NIGHT AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID AS LONG AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS SOLID (NOT FLASHING) IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE 30 MIN TO BRING IT TO THEM. THEY CALLED TODAY TO STATE THE ENGINE IS BLOWN DUE TO METAL SHAVINGS IN THE ENGINE AND OIL. I AM LUCKY THE CAR EVEN MADE IT THERE, SINCE THE ENGINE HAS "BLOWN" SINCE THEY HAVE HAD IT!!!! I HAVE KEPT UP HAVING OIL CHANGED REGULARLY, AND I DO HAVE RECEIPTS. THEY ARE SAYING MY I NEED A WHOLE NEW ENGINE AND IT IS NOT COVERED AND MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED EVEN THOUGH I RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE PAST STATING THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 120,000 MILES!!...
ON 7/5/2014 9:00 A.M. I PLACE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, TURNED THE KEY BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER TO START. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ACCELERATION ISSUE ALSO.
I PICKED UP THE CAR ON APRIL 28TH FROM MONROEVILLE KIA FOR SOME WARRANTY WORK ON THE OIL PAN AND TIMING BELT COVER. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, THE CAR STARTED SMOKING AND I COULD SMELL OIL BURNING. I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THEM. I TURNED AROUND AND STARTED HEADING BACK THERE. I MADE IT ABOUT A MILE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A STOP, I NOTICED FLAMES CREEPING UP BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE WINDSHIELD. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND REMOVED THE KEYS, AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR. WITHIN 30 SECONDS OR SO THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I HAD ALREADY STARTED CALLING...
NOVEMBER 6 2015 AT APPROXIMATELY 5:15 PM MY WIFE HAD AN ACCIDENT IN OUR CAR TOUR OF THE FRONT END TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP IN THE BODY SHOP AFTER 4 WEEKS WE GOT THE CAR BACK AFTER ONE DAY THE CAR CUT OFF AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER HE SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP THAT WASN'T COVERED BY THE INSURANCE BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CARD NEVER CUT OFF BEFORE THE ACCIDENT SO WHY DID HE CUT OFF AFTER THE REPAIR
