A few days before we were to go on vacation we received a campaign letter from Kia about reprogramming the ecm because of the knock sensors. In this letter it stated that after the repairs were done the would warrant the engine for 10 years or 150000 miles from first in service date. My Kia has 144417 miles on it. Because it was so close to our vacation time I didn't have time to take it to the dealer and get the campaign done on it, I was going to do it when I returned from vacation. When we were returning on I-75 outside Chattanooga Tn I heard a loud noise, check eng light started flashing, it jerked me into the right lane which I barely avoided a crash with a vehicle in that lane, smoke was coming up behind me after getting the vehicle to the shoulder of the...
The contact owns a 2011 KIA Sorento. The contact stated that at first, the vehicle would seem as though it would hesitate or choke before acceleration after being idle. Now, while sitting idle the vehicle would suddenly stall. The contact stated that at first, they had to wait approximately 5 minutes however, now about 10 minutes before they are able to restart the vehicle and function as expected. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 250,200.
Engine knocking when accelerating, leaking oil, sparks of fire almost caught fire,... no engine light came on. There’s a recall for Kia Sorento engine but only the 2.5 engine and not a 3.5 engine in which I have a 3.5 and it’s doing the same as the 3.5 engine... that’s terrifying

AT 100000 MILES ENGINE HAD MAJOR FAILURE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED HAD MECHANIC INSTALL USED ENGINE WITH 75000 MILES AND THIS ENGINE IS HAVING TIMING ISSUES UNABLE TO GET IT INSPECTED BECAUSE IT WON'T PASS EMISSION TEST
I DROVE MY 2011 KIA SORENTO ABOUT 9:15 AT NIGHT. BY 12:45 AM A PASSERBY HAD CALLED 911 DUE TO MY CAR BEING IN FLAMES. I WAS WOKEN UP TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVING AT MY HOUSE AND MY CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES. AFTER THE FLAMES WERE EXTINGUISHED, THEY CHECKED IT OVER AND DETERMINED THAT IT HAD STARTED IN THE ENGINE AREA. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2017 AND IT CURRENTLY ONLY HAS 120,750 MILES ON IT. THEY INVESTIGATED IT AND DETERMINED IT HAD STARTED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE ENGINE. MY CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS AND IT WAS HEARTBREAKING TO WAKE UP TO THAT AT ALMOST 1:00AM. I CHECKED THE GAS CAP TO MAKE SURE IT WAS TIGHT THEN WENT TO AUTO ZONE SO THEY COULD USE THEIR DTC. I GOT THOSE REPAIRED BUT STILL HAVE ISSUES WITH THE LIGHT. THE PAPERWORK STATES ERROR CODE READ P0014 EXHAUST CAMSHAFT POSITION TIMING OVER ADVANCED BANK 1 INDICATES THAT THE BANK 1 EXHAUST CAMSHAFT POSITION TIMING WAS ADVANCED BEYOND LIMITS FOR A PREDETERMINED....
I WAS HEADED TO WORK A 10 MIN ROUTE FOR ME ABOUT 3 MILES IN TRAVELING AT APPROX 55 MPH ENGINE STALLED OUT HAD TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE CAR.THIS HAPPEN TWICE IN A WEEK SPAN.

IT WAS DEEMED TO BE AN INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE, KNOWN BY KIA, HOWEVER THEY REFUSED TO INCLUDE MY VIN IN THE RECALL. I PAID 2700 FOR A REPLACEMENT THROUGH THE KIA DEALERSHIP. 2 YEARS LATER, AT 1240,000 MILES, THE SECOND ENGINE FAILED. AGAIN, NO WARNING LIGHTS, SIMPLY DRIVING FORWARD AT 60MPH WHEN IT STOPPED. KIA REFUSES TO COVER ANYTHING AGAIN.
IN 2018, WHILE DRIVING, MY 2011 KIA SORENTO WITH 101,000 MILES, THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STOPPED WITH ZERO WARNING. IT WAS DEEMED AN INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE AND WHILE KIA HAD A KNOWN ENGINE ISSUE, THEY REFUSED TO INCLUDE MY VIN IN THE RECALL. I PAID OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THE KIA DEALER INSTALL A KIA SUPPLIED ENGINE. 2 YEARS LATER, WITH 20,000 MILES, THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE ENGINE FAILED. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND GOOD SAMARITANS STOPPED TO HELP PUSH ME OUT OF HARMS WAY. AGAIN, KIA WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIRS. FORTUNATELY I COULD SMELL THE HOT ENGINE AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED FOR A TOW RATHER THAN TRY TO RESTART THE ENGINE, AFTER LEARNING THE ENGINES BURST INTO FLAMES.

FILLED ENGINE TO MANUFACTURED SPECS.ENGINE HAS NO POWER!! TOP OF ENGINE TAPPING BOTTOM OF ENGINE KNOCKING. JUST FINISHED PAYING FOR CAR WITH ONLY 90K MILES.
I HAVE A 2011 KIA SORENTO AND CHECKED TO SEE IF ANY RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE ON THE MOTOR. NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN ON THE MOTORS. BUT SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE MOTOR SMOKING AND LOSING POWER. KIA NEEDS TO RECALL THESE MOTORS!
HAVE TO REPLACE BRAKES AND ROTORS 2-3 YEAR;. BRAKE CALIPER TWICE; REPLACE HEADLIGHTS AND TAILLIGHTS SEVERAL TIMES PER YEAR; BACK DOOR WON'T OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUT.

NOW IT WONT STAY STARTED AT ALL. TOOK VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC AND WAS ADVISED NEED A NEW ENGINE .

A DAY LATER WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER BUT RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO KIA. STAFF STARTED ENGINE AND SAID IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE WITHOUT LOOKING AT IT FURTHER. TOOK ELSEWHERE FOR A SECOND OPINION. KNOCK SUBSIDED SOME AFTER ADDING ADDITIONAL ENGINE OIL (NO HISTORY OF LEAKS OR OIL USE). ENGINE THEN THREW A ROD THROUGH THE OIL PAN AS THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING APPROX 40 MILES PER HOUR ON A 4 LANE STREET. .FORTUNATELY, MY 17 YEAR OLD SON WAS ABLE TO REACT TO THE TOTAL ENGINE/POWER LOSS AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET THE VEHICLE PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO A TURN LANE. KIA ACKNOWLEDGES THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING MANY IDENTICAL ISSUES WITH VARIOUS ENGINES, BUT THIS SPECIFIC ENGINE WASN'T INCLUDED UNDER THE RECALL. SEEMS VERY STRANGE THAT THIS ENGINE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES AS OTHER KIA ENGINES, BUT THIS SPECIFIC ENGINE ISN'T...

STILL I DO TO TOW IT TO KIA PARKSIDE KNOXVILLE TN AND PD THEM ALMOST $200 TO TELL ME THE EXACT SAME THING; HE'D BEEN A MECH FOR 20+ YRS AND HAD NO IDEA HOW THAT COULD EVEN HAPPEN. WHILE DRIVING BACK FROM OREGON TO IDAHO I WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL GOING APPROXIMATELY 67MPH AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. I PRESSED ON THE GAS AND NOTHING SO I DISABLED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND AGAIN ATTEMPTED TO PRESS ON THE GAS AND IT CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER SO I PULLED ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ON 6/5/17 I WAS DRIVING FROM MCCALL TO BOISE IDAHO WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 90 MILES. I PARKED THE CAR AT WALMART AND WENT OUT TO START IT AND IT WOULD NOT START AT FIRST THEN WHEN IT WOULD RESTARTED IT WOULD DIE QUICKLY APPROXIMATELY 3 TIMES. I DROVE IT TO THE BOISE DENNIS DILLON KIA DEALERSHIP AND ON THE WAY IT STALLED, DID CHUGGING SOUND AT A STOP SIGN IN TOWN AND JERKED FORWARD AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT THERE. THE CAR HAS BEEN BURNING OIL AND I WOULD HAVE TO PUT A QUART OF OIL IN PROBABLY ONCE A WEEK. TODAY I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I STOPPED AT THE GROCERY STORE AND I FINISHED THERE AND I WAS MAKING MY WAY HOME. I GOT ABOUT 3 OR SO MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME AND I NOTICED MY OIL LIGHT WAS ON. SO I PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE OIL AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. MY DAUGHTER IS 21 YEARS OLDS AND SHE PURCHASED 2011 KIA SORENTO FROM PETE'S KAR SMART KIA IN AMARILLO. SHE GOES TO COLLEGE IN LINCOLN NEBRASKA AND HER CAR IS NOT HOLDING OIL. SHE HAS ON 2 OCCASIONS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME HAD HER OIL LIGHT COME ON AND WHEN SHE CHECKED THE OIL IT WAS BONE DRY. THIS IS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. WE CAN GET NO RESOLUTION FROM KIA AS SHE HAS TAKEN IT TO KIA IN AMARILLO AND IN LINCOLN. I HAVE GOOGLED THIS ISSUE FOR THIS PARTICULAR YEAR AND THEIR HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMMENTS FROM OTHERS SHARING THE SAME ISSUE WITH 2011 KIA NOT HOLDING OIL. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY DAUGHTER'S SAFETY. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND STATIONARY. WHEN TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE USING THE KEY-LESS IGNITION, DASH AND INTERIOR LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER IN THE VEHICLE AND RELAYS START TO CLICK. LOCKS WOULD NOT OPERATE NOR COULD I SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, STARTED TO SMELT BURNING, PUSHED IGNITION BUTTON TO SHUT DOWN. WOULD NOT SHUT OFF, ELECTRICAL KEPT CYCLING LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO START ON ITS OWN, HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO SHUT DOWN THE CAR. STARTER SOLENOID NEVER ENGAGED AT ANY TIME NOR DID THE ENGINE TRY TO TURN OVER.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
TODAY AS I CHANGED LANES COMING TO A RED LIGHT MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF WITH NO INDICATION. I WENT TO PRESS THE GAS TO GO AND LOOKED DOWN WHEN I WOULDN'T MOVE AND THE BATTERY AND OIL LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS LIKE NOT GETTING INTO GEAR OR JERKING WHEN SHIFTING AND ENGINE SEEM TO LOOSE POWER OR NOT HAVE ENOUGH ALSO THERE IS A NOISE THE A/C MAKING A RATTLING NOISE AND VIBRATING .
IN NOVEMBER 2015 HAD MAJOR OIL LINE FAILURE, DEALERSHIP REPLACED OIL PRESSURE SWITCH. IN DECEMBER 2017 HAD MAJOR OIL LEAK, DEALERSHIP REPLACED OIL PRESSURE SWITCH. JUNE 2019 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ACTIVATED UPON PUTTING VEHICLE IN PARK. TOOK IT TO KIA DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND PIECES OF BEARING IN THE BOTTOM OF OIL FILTER HOUSING. KIA DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF BANK OIL CONTROL VALVE AND ULTIMATELY REPLACEMENT OF ENGINE. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 86,600 MILES ON IT. KIA DEALERSHIPS NOT INTERESTED IN BUYING VEHICLE AND QUOTE ME APPROXIMATELY $6,000 TO REPLACE ENGINE. I SUSPECT THIS MAY BE SAME ISSUE KIA HAD WITH 2012 SORRENTOS WHICH LED TO RECALL.
FIRST IT STARTED WITH DRIVERS DOOR NOT WORKING. I CAN'T GET IN THE DRIVER DOOR BECAUSE THE HANDLE DOESN'T WORK. SO I HAVE BEEN CRAWLING THRU THE PASSENGER DOOR TO GET IN THE CAR. BUT NOW I CAN'T DO THAT BECAUSE THE PASSENGER DOOR WON'T OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE EITHER. YOU PULL ON THE DOOR HANDLE AND IT DOES NOTHING.
