Complete loss of power while driving.
Car hesitation to accelerate and jerks when driving from a start . Took it to the dealer and they couldn’t get a code from issues. The issue happens sporadically but will be taking car back again to see if they can figure it out after next incident.
Since inception of purchasing the vehicle in January 2019, I have experienced a sudden jolt, banging sound/feeling. In the beginning the issue was subtle. In addition, I have felt a sudden loss of speed. It should be noted I did not seek any service at this time. As a side note, sometime in 2020/2021 i received a letter of a recall for fault PTU however this was for another jeep i owned no longer in my possession. This prompted me to call mopar to see if my current vin was possibly on that first recall of jeeps however i was advised it was not even though i had experienced the same issues described. Fast forward to as of recently august 2023, I received a recall letter with this current vin and proceeded to the nearest dealership for repair. I was advised the repair was a software update. The vehicle just cuts off while in the middle of driving and everything shuts off. New battery installed 2 months ago, no loose cables, plenty of gas. Cutting off while driving poses a very bad hazard. The last time it happened the shop that had recently changed my oil two weeks prior said it was due to loose battery cables and it has now been a month since that occurrence took place. Now it's happening again.
For months now I keep having something wrong not sure whats wrong either it’s engine, powertrain. It keeps doing different stuff. First it’s acting like it want to dye like stall out for no reason. Sometimes it loses power like hitting the gas peddle but won’t go engine just fires up. The other day I had issues trying to put into reverse to back up hit the gas and it just accelerated really bad but didn’t move almost like it was stuck in gear. I’ll be driving down road and out of nowhere my car accelerated gears to 3/4 wouldn’t go down when i was going 40 on straight road. Took few minutes to unstick. I was driving mid day today and I noticed my display on the dash had gone dim as if the headlights had turned on and the dash lights dimmed expecting it to be dark inside. I then got a ding about the auto shutoff when stopped feature not working (this has been dinging for a few years and hasn’t worked since shortly after I got the vehicle in 2018, however it’s been working the last few weeks). I was pulling into a grocery store looking for a spot when all of a sudden the car died. I lost brakes and power steering but luckily was going slow. Engine and drive bad engine but just bought less 7 month ago
I’ve been doing my research and the same issue my car is having many keeps have also had. On highways our card will go limp and stall out. The engine light will come on and the four wheel drive will become not functional. This is a severe issue in winter. As well as the lack of control on highways. I was driving on the highway going 65 up a hill my car engine light went on i lost all acceleration had to coast to the shoulder. When this happened i turned my car off and back on I couldn’t accelerate up the hill and stayed rolling back it took 45 minutes being shut for me to get out of limp mode. It does it to me every single time I leave my house now. The scanner will not show what’s wrong I’ve put 100s of dollars into my jeep trying...
Sometimes when I mash the gas pedal to pull out from a stop it hesitates and doesn't move, then is sluggish when it does. This has happened often. It's dangerous.
My Vehicle shuts down once a day, every morning after about a couple minutes of driving. The engine shuts off, the dash notifies me to "Shift vehicle into park then desired gear" but with my engine off, I have to restart my car as well. My car won't restart unless I try over and over and hold the key while turning the ignition. Occasionally I get a "Service Shifter" notification on my dash but no lights or notifications besides that. I've been to one Jeep dealership service department so far and they were not able to locate the cause.
Start stop system is malfunctioning. It will go off that it is malfunctioning after I go down the hill or up the hill sometimes if it’s wet out it’ll just go off but it’s not working and the other problem I’m having is the engine oil coolant housing. cracked. I noticed A bad smell of oil, then when I parked and came out of the store a bunch of oil under my car and further inspecting with my brother who was a mechanic, but retired said it is the oil engine coolant housing. He doesn’t understand why they put plastic for that type of part. both of these problems started in January 2023
For last yr i keep having car want stall did recall on it. Helped for bit, then it’s always wanting stick between 2/3 when trying change gears. On different recall it fixed for bit the temp on transmission bouncing back forth a lot in temps. I have recorded video to show it. This car has had reoccurring issues related to the engine, ignition module and starter. It breaks down every few weeks. It has left me broken down and stranded on freeways, city roads and most recently on the side of a hill. When the key is inserted, it will not turn over completely and even after the key is removed the engine continues to make clicking sounds as if it is still trying to turn over and it smokes from underneath the hood. There were no warning indications. It has been taken to the dealer numerous times for the same issue but they do not find a problem and return it back to me just for it to occur again. Engine oil cooler failure, had to be replaced. Known issue per 3 techs. Leaks oil onto engine and exhaust. No warning, just the smoke and smell of burning oil. Occurred at 73,200 miles more or less.
The component that needed replacement was the PTU (Power Transfer Unit). My Service 4WD drive light began going on so I brought it to my mechanic who told me there was a recall associated with this diagnostic code and to bring it to Jeep dealership. I then brought to dealership, was charged $160.00 and told that the recall was not for my particular VIN number and the cost of the repair was $3,000. When I googled this issue, there were all of the same warning lights, and all told that the PTU had failed. I fond it hard to believe that this same unit is faulty in the same year, make and model but only in specific cars? Isn't it the same part? I had to save up for the repair as it was costly. The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that upon having the vehicle inspected, the contact was informed by the technician that there was a crack in the oil engine housing and needed to be replaced. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and the contact was informed that both were aware of the failure, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 140,000. The VIN was not available.
My 2016 jeep Cherokee Limited which has the 2.4 L Tiger Shark engine is failing miserably. There is a extremely obvious ring around the entirety of the engine block. The manifold gasket has failed. The head gasket has never been removed by myself or by a jeep dealership who had my authority to do so. The indicator lights on my vehicle still have not illuminated other than alerting in me I had a faulty water pump which had to be replaced at 75k miles. The OEM thermostat is plastic. Not metal as it should be considering the elevated temp produced by 2.4 L Tiger Shark engine. That engine has destroyed the gasket. The damage started at the right hand side”opposite of oil opening” about the middle of the gasket head. Drove car a few minutes and while accelerating the vehicle slowly stopped and all the electrical warning signals went off simultaneously. I was able to push down on the gas pedal, but my car would not accelerate, nor did it sound like engine was running. Car would not power off, but would not move in reverse or drive. Every possible vehicle warning light flashed on the dash, all 5 lights lit up on the gear shifter at the same time, and the windshield wipers turned on even though they were turned off. I have a video of this. Power locks would not lock or unlock car. Power windows would not roll up or down. My media screen flashed an error message. 1. UNKNOWN component/system failure. It is available for inspection on request. 2. My vehicle will randomly flash an error message while driving "Shift to park and then select desired gear." As this error message is displayed, the engine stops while driving. The car is seemingly forced into neutral. Sometimes it will start again immediately. Sometimes it takes several minutes. It happens completely randomly. It is incredibly dangerous, especially when driving on the highway. I have been lucky that no one has crashed into me yet. 3. The "Service Shifter" warning came on and the transmission started slipping. If the transmission goes out while myself or kids are on the highway it not only could endanger us, but others as well. I have had this looked at by an independent shop and all it says that there is a bulletin on it.
This Jeep has stalled while on the road several times, more than once almost causing an accident. I have finally figured out that the engine uses more oil than a normal engine should, it does not inform the driver of low oil, and shuts off once the oil is below a certain point. This vehicle is extremely dangerous to be on any road and likely already caused numerous accidents. Please do something!!!!!
All of a sudden you are driving and the vehicle wants to shut off like it's getting gas got cut off and it will Buck back and forth like a transmission issue Then all of a Sudden it kicked back in and you continue to drive as Normal but if you're at a stop and you go to take off it could be very dangerous if it stalls out on you
Car will slow down, steering wheel will lock, and message "Shift to P then Shift to desired gear" will pop up. Car will take a minute to start up again and problem reoccurs.
I was driving home doing 65/70 when my dash lights came on, all of the shifter lights came on, and a service light started beeping to service the shifter. Leaving me stranded without a car. $600 for the parts plus labor and fees, I was able to get a new shifter replaced, and I am hoping this never happens again!
I purchased this jeep in 2018, the service shifter light came on the car shutdown in the middle of the road while my daughter was driving she was able to get into a parking lot. We had the bezel and wiring harness replaced in January 2019, right after this happened. I now have the jeep and the shifter service light will randomly come on along with the service transmission light. When this happens the transmission will not engage and I have to make my way to the side of the road and put it in park and then the transmission will engage again.
i was driving my son to school one day about 2 months ago maybe longer and all of a sudden out of no where the car shuts off saying low oil pressure. i changed out the sensor. thinking that would fix the problem. well that sure isnt the case. i burn a quart of oil 3rd or 4rh day of the week evey week taken it in no can find the problem. now i see there a recall say needs a pcm up date. maybe it it fix the problem. probaly not. i think jeep really needs to go over the jeep engines with a pick and comb and find these problems its scary drivong i am so affraid iam am going to be an a realy bad accident one day. my car always shutting off while driving iys not fun. its even worse when i jqve my child in...
4wheel drive light came on. Said it was a power transfer unit problem. It has been recalled but doesn’t show for my car. It will cost me o ver $2000 and it has been recalled. I need help to have this repair covered.
Vehicle has slowly been loosing power since I purchased it in 2018, but over the past 2 months it's sluggish and when I press the accelerator, it hesitates then takes off and the tachometer gets stuck until I let off the gas then push the accelerator again. Also when I'm in stop and go traffic, when I accelerate, it starts jerking and feel like the engine is going to die, but if I give it a little more gas, it stops, until I have to come to a stop again. It's unsettling to hear the engine race the way it does. I feel it's a safety issue because the way it jerks when I'm trying to get the tachometer to stop racing. There's been no warning lights and nothing has been confirmed by the dealership, however, I recently received a recall notice and have contacted the dealer for an appointment....
*SERVICE SHIFTER POP UP* I've had my 2016 Jeep Cherokee for about 4 years and every few months it pops up with SERVICE SHIFTER on my dash and the shifter lights up. I have talked to my local Jeep dealership, where I purchased this vehicle, and they brushed it off. After reading forums, this can be a HUGE safety hazard and could cause an accident or even worse, kill somebody!! Jeep should be held responsible and this should be considered a recall because alot of people have complained about this SERVICE SHIFTER popup. At times, I am scared to drive my vehicle after these episodes happen because I fear I am going to get into a car accident.

The contact was unable to veer to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the power transfer unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist because the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train). The manufacturer also referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The contact also stated that the vehicle would start up and shut off independently without warning. Additionally, while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle began to shake uncontrollably without warning as the contact lost control of the vehicle. The contact was able to pull over and shut off the vehicle. After multiple attempts, the contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume normal driving. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and an independent mechanic and both were unable to diagnose the failure since no warning lights had appeared on the instrument panel. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

I was at the store came out started my jeep sat there for a minute put my jeep in drive pressed the gas pulled forward out of the parking spot when my jeep stopped my dash said put in park then select gear well i was in the middle of the lane and i couldn’t press the brake or turn my wheel there was a car coming down the lane and my jeep was just sitting there not able to turn back on. finally i was able to get my jeep to turn back on and i put it in reverse and left it in the parking lot if I were to drive home and that happened there could’ve been a major accident! I’m so grateful I was not on the interstate!
I was driving on the interstate, I just got past 55 miles per hour and my “service transmission soon” notification came on. I was able to get off the interstate. After that, the vehicle completely stalled out. I put it in park and then back in drive and I was able to get home. If the vehicle would have stalled on the interstate it would have been horrible.

THE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON ON 04/01/2021. IT REMAINED ON THE ENTIRE TRIP HOME FROM MY SCHOOL OF EMPLOYMENT. I NOTED THIS IS A POPULAR PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. PREVIOUSLY, I HAD VERY SCARY PROBLEMS WITH ACCELERATION SEVERAL TIMES AND THIS IS DOCUMENTED IN AN ONGOING SUIT THAT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED.
2016 JEEP CHEROKEE SPORT WITH ONLY 11850 MILES BEGAN JERKING AND STALLING WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY... FINALLY IT STALLED COMPLETELY AND THE LOW OIL INDICATOR SHOWED. I THEN DISCOVERED THE 2.4L TIGERSHARK ENGINE WAS DOWN OVER 2 QTS. THERE WAS NO PRIOR LOW OIL INDICATION. I IMMEDIATELY CHANGED THE OIL AND FILTER FOR THE THIRD TIME SINCE 2016 WHEN NEW. THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON A COUNTY ROAD.
MY JEEP WAS LOOKED AT UNDER THE W20 RECALL, IT FIXED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BUT LATER CAME BACK UP. I'M NOT SURE IF THE RECALL WAS PART OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BUT I'VE TRIED TO RESET IT, AND THAT IS NOT WORKING. I DON'T FEEL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FIXED. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN DO? THE VEHICLE MADE AN AUDIBLE DINGING SOUND WITH A MESSAGE DISPLAYED TO TURN-OFF THE VEHICLE. THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MINUTES THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
CAR SHUT OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE PULLING INTO PARKING LOT AND MAKING RIGHT TURN.
IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET GOING 35 MPH THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF; STEERING AND BRAKING BECOME DISABLED AND CAR COSTS INTO TRAFFIC. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR DASH BOARD SYMBOLS TURNED EVER ON. VEHICLE HAS TO BE TOWED TO A SHOP TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED/REPLACED AFTER ONLY 200 MILES SINCE LAST OIL CHANGE. ENGINE BURNS OIL (NOT LEAKING) AT A HIGH RATE. OIL NEEDS TO BE CHECKED WEEKLY AND REPLACED ON A 2-3 MONTH SCHEDULE. ONLY 35,000 MILES ON THE CAR.
VEHICLE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGH WAY, 70MPH, FOR 20 MINS, EXITED THE HIGHWAY TO 40 MPH AND ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A RATTLING SOUND, SHAKING, BACKFIRING, AND ACCELERATION BECAME DIFFICULT, LOSS OF HORSE POWER. DROVE TO NEAREST PARKING LOT. CONTINUES TO MISFIRE WHILE IN NEUTRAL AND AT IDLE. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE FOR 5 MINS. RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR CONTINUED TO MAKE NOISES, BACK FIRE AND IDLE POORLY. TOWED TO A SHOP. CODES WERE IDENTIFIED IN CYLINDER #3 SPARK PLUGS WERE CHECKED TO BE FINE, COILS WERE CHECKED TO BE FINE, AND CYLINDER #3 CONTINUED TO SO ERROR CODES. CAR WAS LEFT TO HAVE FUEL PUMP INJECTOR CHECKED. THE FUEL INJECTOR WAS NOT AFFECTED. CYLINDER #3 WAS FOUND TO HAVE NO PRESSURE AND NOT OPERATING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN "BURNING" OIL, AND NEEDED TO HAVE OIL CHECKED ON A WEEKLY BASIS, OIL CHANGED ON...
CAR SHUTS OFF MID-DRIVE / MID-TURN WHILE IN MOTION WITHOUT WARNING. NO LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED IN THE DASH CLUSTER AFTER OR DURING. NO EXPLANATION WHY.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT ABOUT 25-30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY, ENGINE WAS NOT GOING AND POWER STEERING, BRAKES, AND ALL ELECTRONICS WOULD NOT WORK UNTIL THE CAR COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT. THE CAR WAS PUT IN PARK AND THEN TURNED BACK ON AS NORMAL. INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES NOW AT SPEEDS OF 45MPH , 20MPH, 25MPH, AND 10MPH.
