MY CAR SHUTDOWN WHILE I WAS ON THE ROAD, THURS. SEPT. 20TH, 2018 AT 10 PM.. I COULDN'T GET TO TURN BACK OVER, COULDN'T GET THE HAZARDS TO WANT TO STAY ON, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I CALLED 911 BASED ON THE FACT I WAS ON A BACK ROAD, AND HAD VEHICLES PASSING ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. I THEN NOTICED AN ODD SMELL, WHICH I MENTIONED TO 911. LESS THAN A MINUTE LATER, SMOKE BEGAN POURING THROUGH THE VENTS. AS THEY ASK MY LOCATION, I NOTICED A FLICKER OUTSIDE MY WINDOW TOWARDS THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE (ALMOST LOOKED LIKE IT CAME FROM THE WHEEL WELL). I GOT OUT, ANSWERED THE QUESTION, AS THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. WITHIN A MATTER OF MINUTES, THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT REACTED QUICKLY, BUT THE CAR WAS A LOSS. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON FRIDAY NIGHT AUG 10, 2018 AND BEFORE COMING TO A STOP SIGN THE CAR JUST CUT OFF. WHEN I WENT TO RESTART, THE DASH BORED LIGHTS WERE GOING WILD AND THEN THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE CAR ENGINE. WHEN I LIFTED THE HOOD, THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE.
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. GAUGES ALL NORMAL. NO WARNINGS SUDDENLY STARTING KNOCKING OVER HEATING. NO SMOKE. STOP AND PULL OVER. CAM SENSOR WAS TOTALLY MELTED. HEAD WAS CRACKED MOTOR NO GOOD. $4200 TO REPLACE MOTOR. DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NO FIRE YET THE SENSOR WAS MELTED OUTSIDE OF THE HEAD. ANTIFREEZE CAME THROUGH PISTONS. HYUNDAI DOESN'T STAND BEHIND ANYTHING. ONE YEAR AGO IDLER BEARING FROZE CAUSING $1500 DAMAGE WITH 102000. THESE CARS SHOULD LAST LONGER FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY. THEY ALWAYS LAY THE BLAME BACK IN YOUR LAP.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND CROSSED OVER SOME RAILROAD TRACKS. ONCE I CROSSED THE RAILROAD TRACKS AND BEGAN TO COME UP A HILL, MY CAR BEGAN TO STALL. SUDDENLY, MY CAR'S GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK, THEN MY BRAKES STOPPED WORKING, AND THEN ALL OF MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON (AS PICTURE) I WAS GOING ABOUT 45 MPH AND I HAD NO WAY OF STOPPING MY VEHICLE AND HAD TO USE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP MY VEHICLE. I GOT MY CAR TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND I COULD NOT CRANK MY CAR UP OR MOVE IT OUT OF THE ROAD. I COULD NOT TURN MY STEERING WHEEL AND MY WHOLE CAR LOCKED UP AND BECAME UNMOVABLE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYTHING ELSE FAILED AND I ALMOST WRECKED INTO A WOODED AREA IN THE MIDDLE OF A CURVE ON THE BUSY ROAD. I...
WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD WHEN THE ENGINE WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR ANY INDICATION THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM TOTALLY STALLED ON ME. I LOST ALL POWER, AND RIGHT AWAY LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKING WAS HARD. LUCKILY I WAS ON A QUIET ROAD AND NOT ON A HIGHWAY, I COULDN'T COMPREHEND A SUDDEN ENGINE STALL LIKE THIS ON A BUSY INTERSTATE LOSING BOTH POWER BRAKES AND POWER STEERING. THE CAR HAD ABOUT 45,000 MILES. HYUNDAI SAID THE ENGINE IS TOTALLY FRIED AND THEY WILL REQUIRE A COMPLETE REBUILD WHICH COULD TAKE MONTHS. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 2013 SONATA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SMOKE APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 108,000.
MY ENGINE CATCH ON FIRE. I WAS DRIVING HIGHWAY WHEN I STARTED TO HEAR A LOUD FLAPPING / KNOCKING NOISE . IT GOT LOUDER WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE DIED GOING 55 MPH ON THE HIGHHWAY. I GUIDE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY . IMMEDIATELY SEEING SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD/ ENGINE. THEN FLAMES SHOOT UP FROM THE ENGINE. GOT OUT THE CAR CALL 911 . THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT BUT IT WAS TOO LATE THE WHOLE ENGINE WAS DESTROY. GLAD I WAS NOT HURT BUT MY CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. I DIDNT HAVE THE POLICE REPORT WILL HAVE IT WITHIN 10 DAYS PER ALABAMA STATE TROOPER DEPARTMENT
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE 95 N GOING ONTO 295 N HIGHWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR WHEN IT STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND SMOKE. I PULLED OVER AND DISCOVERED VIA ANOTHER CAR PASSING BY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE AND IT WENT UP IN FLAMES.
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON JULY 25, 2018 AND IT SUDDENLY STOPPED ON THE HIGHWAY. I TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS AN ENGINE FAILURE.

I WENT TO DRIVE MY CAR TO WORK FRIDAY MORNING 6/27/2018 AND IT WAS DEAD. MY HUSBAND HAD MY BATTERY TESTED, THEY SAID IT WAS LOW SO WE BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY AND IT WORKED. CAR RAN FINE FOR THE NIGHT AND NEXT AFTERNOON, THEN OUT OF THE BLUE MY CAR STALLED AND WOULDN'T START AGAIN ( 6/28/2018) I HAD TO JUMP IT. IT STARTED RIGHT AWAY NO PROBLEMS, NOISES ETC. I WENT AHEAD AND DROVE IT TO OUR MECHANICS PLACE ACROSS TOWN (APPROX. 2-3 MILES) FOR THEM TO LOOK AT ON MONDAY. AS WE WERE GETTING OUT OF THE CAR (IT WAS TURNED OFF AND PARKED) WE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THEN VERY QUICKLY FLAMES. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. ADDED/TOPPED UP IN EXCESS OF 1 LITRE OIL EVERY 1500 KILOMETRES. ABBOTSFORD HYUNDAI AND HYUNDAI CANADA STATE THIS IS NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION ! THE VEHICLE CANNOT MAKE IT FROM ONE OIL CHANGE (EVERY 6000 KILOMETRES) TO NEXT WITHOUT THE ENGINE GOING DRY! THIS SEEMS UNACCEPTABLE. OWNED MANY DIFFERENT BRANDS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE! ALSO THE ENGINE IS VERY LOAD (SOUNDS RATTLING).
ON JULY 10,2018 I TOOK MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED TO MCCAFFERTY HYUNDAI SERVICE IN LANGHORNE, PA FOR A ROUTINE FRONT BRAKE JOB. AS I DROVE HOME AFTERWARDS I NOTICE A 'PULSING' WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. I CALLED THE SVC DEPT AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO RETURN. I WAS THEN TOLD I NEEDED NEW ROTORS EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD JUST DONE MY BRAKES. DRIVING HOME AFTER THIS VISIT MY CAR BEGAN STALLING WHEN I WOULD COME TO A STOP. IN THE TEN MINUTES IT TAKES ME TO GET HOME MY CAR STALLED 9 TIMES, AND BY THE TIME I GOT TO MY STREET THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. ON THIS VISIT TO THE SVC DEPT I WAS TOLD THE STARTER HAD FAILED AND NEED REPLACED AND THAT IT HAD RUINED THE BATTERY, SO THEY REPLACED BOTH. I DROVE THE CAR FOR A LITTLE OVER TWO WEEKS AND ON...
THE MANUFACTURER OF MY CAR HAS FAILED TO REMEDY MULTIPLE SAFETY RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE IN A TIMELY MANNER. THE KNOWN RECALLS WERE ISSUED IN 2017, AND ARE RECALL #162 AND #169.

BROUGHT MY CAR INTO A HYUNDAI DEALER IN SEPT 2017 FOR ENGINE RECALL. WAS TOLD IT DIDN'T NEED TO BE FIXED. JUNE 2018, I WAS 3 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME. ENGINE WAS MAKING NOISES, BROUGHT IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALER, THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHOULDN'T THE FIRST DEALERSHIP HAVE REPLACED THE ENGINE SINCE IT WAS A RECALL? NOW I HAVE TO TAKE OFF WORK TO DRIVE 6 HOURS ROUND TRIP TO PICK UP MY CAR WHEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 5 MINUTES IF THE FIRST DEALERSHIP FIXED THE RECALL. I AM LOOSING A DAYS PAY

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO OURISMAN HYUNDAI OF BOWIE (2404 CRAIN HWY, BOWIE, MD, 301-249-4227) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
I HAVE A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA AND I'M CONSTANTLY HAVING TO CHANGE THE BACK/FRONT LIGHTS. THEY KEEP GOING OUT AND THE LIGHT BULBS ARE CHEAP. THE BACK TAIL LIGHT HAS MELTED THE SOCKET AND PLASTIC SO NOW I HAVE TO PURCHASE A WHOLE NEW ONE. ALSO EVERYTIME I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL THERE IS A REALLY BAD CLICKING SOUND AND THE ENGINE ALSO STALLS AND THE THING GOES ALL THE WAY BETWEEN 3 AND 4 AND THEN THE CAR FINALLY JERKS AND MOVES FORWARD.

IMMOBILIZER INDICATOR IS ON AND CAR WON'T DETECT KEYFOB WHEN INSIDE OF VEHICLE OR WHEN PLACED IN KEYFOB SLOT IN CENTER CONSOLE.
IN JUST OVER 18 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP, WE HAVE HAD TO CHANGE BRAKE LIGHTS AT MINIMUM 9 TIMES. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY ONE MECHANIC THAT IT'S AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT WASN'T. A THIRD MECHANIC STATED THAT IT IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. CURRENTLY, THE BRAKE LIGHT SOCKET WIRING IS BURNED REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE BRAKE LIGHT HOUSING UNIT. FOR THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS NOTED ON THE INTERNET, THIS SHOULD BE REPLACED BY HYUNDAI AND SHOULD NOT BE AN EXPENSE TO OWNERS. ADDITIONALLY, MY CAR STALLED SUDDENLY ( THE ENGINE SEIZED ) AND THE REPAIR (REPLACEMENT OF ENGINE) WAS COVERED BY HYUNDAI WARRANTY EXTENSION.
SONATA & SANTA FE SPORT ENGINE RECALL / SANTA FE & SONATA ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SERVICE CAMPAIGN. MY CAR WAS PREVIOUSLY RECALLED AND SERVICED FOR BOTH THESE ISSUES IN 2015 & 2017. BOTH ISSUES RELATE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED THESE ISSUES AGAIN FOR THE PAST MONTH. 1)A KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE THAT INCREASES IN FREQUENCY AS THE ENGINE RPM INCREASES. 2)REDUCED POWER AND/OR HESITATION. 3)ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. WHEN CONTACTING HYUNDAI TO NOTIFY THEM OF THIS PROBLEM THEY STATED THAT THIS HAD ALREADY BEEN TAKEN CARE OF AND THEY ARE UNSURE THEY CAN CONSIDER THIS A RECALL OR SERVICE ISSUE AGAIN. I WOULD STILL HAVE TO PAY THE DIAGNOSTIC FEES AND SERVICE FEES IF NEEDED EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE ALREADY SEEN THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURED ON THEIR PART PREVIOUSLY.
WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, GOING 55 MPH APPROACHING MY EXIT, WHEN MY 2013 SONATA GLS BEGAN TO SHAKE, MY EPS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CAR STOPPED ON ME COMPLETELY, THEN ALL MY INDICATOR LIGHTS POPPED ON AS THE CAR BEGAN TO JUST COAST WITH LIMITED STEERING ABILITY. LUCKILY I WAS ON MY EXIT AND COASTED IT DOWNHILL TO A RESIDENTIAL BLOCK. TRIED JUMPING IT THINKING IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM AND EVEN REPLACED THE BATTERY. VEHICLE STILL WOULDN'T TURN ON. CONTACTED HYUNDAI AFTER THIS BECAUSE MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 65,000 MILES ON IT.
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL FOR MY CAR THAT SAID THE SMALL ENGINE BLOCK WAS RECALLED BECAUSE METAL SHAVINGS WERE GETTING INTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSING THEM TO STAHL WHILE GOING DOWN HIGHWAY PEOPLE ARE DYING BECAUSE OF THIS. I TOOK MY CAR IN AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS FINE BUT IT'S NOW BURNING OIL AND STARTING TO STAHL OUT THEY THEN DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND SAID IT WAS NORMAL TO BE BURNING OIL. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED TO ME OR MY FAMILY YET BUT I DON'T WANT TO GIVE IT THE CHANCE. WHAT CAN I DO?

I DID NOT DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM IN DETAIL WHEN DRIVING AROUND IN THE CITY, COMING TO A STOP, (SOMETIMES THE BRAKE DOESN'T ENGAGE) BUT MORE OFTEN, THE CONCERN IS WHEN TRYING TO TAKE OFF AFTER COMING TO AN INTERSECTION, THERE MAY BE NO ACCELERATION FOR SEVERAL SECONDS TRYING TO TAKE OFF. IT BASICALLY JUST ROLLS UNTIL SOMETHING ENGAGES, THEN THE ACCELERATION BEGINS SLOWLY. ONCE THIS PROBLEM STARTS OCCURRING, IT IS HAPPENS CONSTANTLY, BUT IT DOES NOT OCCUR EVERY TIME I GET IN AND DRIVE AROUND. THIS BEGAN LAST SPRING (2017), I HAD IT WORKED ON AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I TOLD THE MECHANIC TO DRIVE AROUND (HYUNDAI SERVICE) AND THEY DIDN'T UNTIL THEY WANTED ME TO PICK IT UP. WE DROVE AND IT HAPPENED. SO, THEY 'FIXED' SOMETHING. IT WAS BETTER TEMPORARILY. NOT COMPLETELY FIXED, BUT NOT...
WAS DRIVING CAR ON INTERSTATE, ALL DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND CAR WAS DISABLED. PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF ENGINE AND CALLED FOR A TOW. CAR WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDANT MECHANIC, WHOM DIAGNOSED CAR WITH A SERIOUS INTERNAL ENGINE ISSUE, WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE SHOP WHERE IT WAS BOUGHT AND ASK ABOUT A WARRANTY. UPON GETTING TO THE SHOP, THEY SAID IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE YEAR THE CAR IS. THAT IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL JUNE 6TH, FOR THEM TO LOOK AT VEHICLE. MY CAR IS 5 YEARS OLD, 56,6XX MILES AND HAS A MAJOR ENGINE ISSUE.
ENGINE RECALL HYUNDAI DETERMINE THAT I WAS LOSING 0NE QUART PER THOUSAND MILES WHICH IS THE RESULT OF METAL DEBRIS FROM CRANKSHAFT SCRATCHING THE CYLINDER WALLS OF ENGINE CAUSING THE OIL TO LEAK OUT OF THE EXHAUST PIPE TO ROAD. THE COMPANY WILL NOT FIX THIS ISSUE. I AM AFRAID ONE DAY THE ENGINE WILL CATCH ON FIRE OR COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE GOING DOWN THE ROAD LOSING ALL POWER TO CONTROL THE CAR IN WHICH AN ACCIDENT WILL OCCUR .
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING 65MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE A TICKING SOUND WITH NO WARNING OR INDICATOR LIGHTS BEING ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 2000RPM. I THEN PULLED OFF OF THE FREEWAY AND WENT INTO A PARKING LOT AS SOON AS MY VEHICLE STOPPED ALL OF THE INDICATOR AND WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE CAR SHUT OFF. WHEN RESTARTING THE CAR THE TICKING IS NOW ALOT WORSE AND THE CAR SHUTS OFF RIGHT AWAY. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY HOUSE AND I AM HAVING IT TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER FOR INSPECTION.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

I CONTACTED AAA BECAUSE MY CAR WAS IN A VERY DANGEROUS, EXIT STRANDED AND I COULDN'T GET OUT MY VEHICLE. JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE OFF A LOT TWO DAYS AGO AND RAN A VIN TO SEE IF ITS ALL LEGIT AFTER I GET IT HOME. TWO RECALLS CAME UP AND ON ONE IT STATES NO REMEDY FOR THE SEAT BELTS AND NEITHER ONE HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF, WHERE DOES THIS LEAVE ME AT AND WHAT DO I NEED TO DO, I PAID CASH MONEY FOR THIS CAR AND ONLY TWO DAYS THIS SHOWS UP, CAN THE CAR DEALER BE HELD RESPONSIBLE?
