The vehicle continues to feel very bumpy when we drive. Even if I stand in the 2nd row and press up and down, it makes a squeaky, sometimes loud rattling / knocking sound. I have taken this to the dealer multiple times and they tired to tighten shock absorbers and the padding around it but the problem hasn't gone. They ask me to leave the car with them without getting a loaner which is hard to do as we need the car. They have made it hard to get the problem solved, not taking ownership and have denied any issue with the suspension despite multiple complaints by consumers in online forums and what i have personally experienced.
I purchased a new 2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL. When I only had 47,683 miles I had my rear shocks replaced for the third time. Poor handling, and noise when the shocks fail. The shocks needing replaced was confirmed by the dealer service department. No warning lamps or messages were displayed.
Vehicle is experiencing a breakdown in chassis with the failure of at least one rear selfleveling shock absorber on the right rear suspension of the vehicle and possibly the same condition exists on the left rear suspension. Concern exists for the shock absorber mount to completely become detached from the frame assembly resulting in loss of stability and vehicle control. Hyundai dearlership has been contacted for assistance in remedy of the situation but they have failer to respond to request for replacement/repair of the failed shock absorber mount which has been been noted in a Hyundai Service bulletin.
Car has 45,000 miles and the rear shocks are blown and making a rattling popping noise.
I purchased this vehicle with 18,000 miles on the odometer. I am not a reckless driver, and primarily commute to and from work on paved roads. At 29366 miles, I had to have one of the rear shock absorbers replaced after it started making a strange noise. Again at 49596 miles, both rear shock absorbers had to be replaced. I recently took this car back to the shop with 86000 miles on the odometer and once again the shocks are having to be replaced. This is a known defect with Hyundai's self leveling rear shocks. The first two incidents were covered under warranty, but Hyundai is refusing the replace them this time because it is no longer under the manufacturer warranty.
Rear driver side shock is bad loud bumping noise while driving makes car very unsettling feels unsafe
The rear shocks wear out extremely quickly and require replacement every 10-20K miles. They make an awful clicking noise on acceleration, deceleration, and turning. The dealer has seen it, diagnosed the problem, and refused to cover even under their extended warranty that I purchased.
Rear shocks leaking and fail inspection. This was confirmed by both the dealer and independent service center. There were no warnings. This is the second time the same shocks have needed to be replaced. The first time they lasted 3 years, the second time two years. This is an endemic problem with these shocks affecting both the original and OEM replacement parts.
The rear struts are failed within a very short amount of mileage driven. Warrantied twice, but fail again after 20-30k miles. Safety concerned because boucy ride can result in lost of control when hitting bump in the corner. No warning lamps or messages appeared. However, clunking noise from the back.
Suspension failure - shock absorbers Sever bouncing caused - unsafe for rear passengers Replaced absorbers - problem reoccurred within 5k miles Dealership inspection - part failure again no warnings, sudden popping sound with increased bouncing. This makes the car unsuitable to drive safely.
The shocks have failed and are noticably loud and will drop out hard whenever there is any bump which while turning could cause serious safety issues. This has been a common issue from what I have seen.
Rear suspension making popping sound at low speed. Rear shocks have also seemed not performing properly over potholes at one time causing an error code for the AWD system. Had local dealer make repairs for TSB for this know issue of shock mounting insulators. Vehicle noise was fixed and ride seemed to be improved for about one day then it started making same popping sound again at slow speeds. Assuming rough ride will return shortly.
TSB # MC-10207814-0001 I Have already had this repaired once, in 2023 and the other in 2024. My vehicle is now out of warranty, and Hyundai won't do anything for this fix. Looking online, there are plenty other complaints regarding the rattling noise experienced with this issue. I believe this should become a recall, and all vehicles on the road should be able to get this replaced in or out of warranty.
Have a 2020 palisade unlimited with self leveling shocks, started hearing clunking, knocking noise in rear. Have 74k miles currently but started hearing knocking sound at about 55k miles. Replaced shock mounts on both sides which didn’t fix the problem.
- Self leveling rear shocks failed at 21,000 miles leading to dangerous instability on the highway. - The problem was ignored by my primary Hyundai dealer but identified by another and the shocks were replaced. Hyundai Corporate was of no help. - There are numerous reports of self leveling rear shock failures on the higher Hyundai Palisade trim levels. See on line chat forums; Google "Hyundai Palisade Rear Shck Failures". - Hyundai has failed to correct this safety issue and continues to manufacture and offer their self leveling rear shocks on certain model trims. This is a safety problem requiring an investigation by the NTSB. - As a note, 40 per cent of the writers mileage is highway, and there were no heavy loads or abusive driving practices.
The rear shocks have gone bad 2 times already, and now are bad a third time at 28,000 miles. The shocks begin to clunk and the rear end vibrates over bumps.
The shocks have been worn out, clunking and not damping bumps. It causes excessive bounce making the vehicle hard to control on the road. It has been verified by a shop and no warning signs on dash.
The rear shock absorbers and mounts fail. This is the second occurrence of this failure. The first occurrence was covered under warranty at 36,530 miles on [XXX]. The current failure was documented on [XXX] with 64,249 miles. This problem is a recognized issue and has been documented on numerous postings on [XXX] . No warnings from the vehicle other than clunking sounds from the rear of the car. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
2020 hyundai palisade limited with 71k miles. The rear shocks have been replaced 2x and the front struts have been replaced once already. The front struts knock over smooth rides and low impact imperfections. the rear shocks feel to have seemingly worn out, resulting in reverberating knocking sounds over bumps, cracks and road imperfections.
REAR SHOCKS FULLY WORN OUT STRUTS AND SHOCKS ARE NO GOOD VERY DANGEROUS WHEN HITTING A LARGE BUMP IN THE ROAD CAN CAUSE STEERING OFF ROAD BECAUSE OF HARD HITTING NO SHOCK REAR END
Rear shocks failing due premature wear and tear. There were/are no warning lamps and there was no singular incident (eg. accident) that caused this problem that I am aware. The passenger-side rear shock started exhibiting knocking noises in August 2024 when the car was 5 yo and had approx. 85000 miles. Since, the knocking is more frequent but not louder. Also, the ride has slowly become worse over bumps. Dealer confirmed problem.
OEM shocks are clunky and noisy. Exhibit a rattling sound at lower speeds namely at rear right. Noise is progressive and noticeable at higher speeds as time goes on.
Rear shocks stiff and making noise
Oil consumption causing hesitation and near-stalling. Hard shifting as well. These issues led to dangerous situations where I was afraid to drive the vehicle and feared for my family's safety. Also had a failed A/C compressor which i had to replace out of pocket. These things shouldn't be happening on a 4 year old vehicle.
Self-leveling shocks leaking on both sides.
The self-leveling suspension system failed. The ride is uncomfortable and on a bumpy road, the vehicle is hard to control because it bounces up and down. I looked at the rear self-leveling shocks and they were made by KIA. Hyundai alleged they are separate manufactures but I believe they are the same.
The rear self leveling shocks continually break. They do not last, no recall given even though multiple people say they have same problem.
Rear suspension has failed. Back of car bounces on slightest of rough roads. Ride is very rough for passengers in back two rows. Driver and front passenger also experience bumpy ride that was not there before. When researching, this seems to be a common issue for Palisades with self leveling rear suspension. Car does not seem safe from bouncing due to rear suspension failure.
In August of 2023, Stivers Hyundai located in Columbia, SC replaced the rear shock absorbers on my 2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited due to a rattling and knocking noise in the rear of the vehicle. The noise never completely went away, but was somewhat better. In July of 2024 the noise was back to the same noise as we were hearing in 2023. We took the vehicle to the dealership in August of 2024 complaining of the same noise previously heard. The dealership stated that we needed new shock absorbers (same as which they replaced a year ago) and which only had approx. 20,000 on them. When we explained that they had just replaced them a year ago, they completely dismissed our concern and noted that they needed to be replaced and offered no explanation as to why they would wear out in a years time. At the point we visited...
My rear shocks and or insulator were replaced under a TSB 22-SS-001H at 50000 miles. At 79000 they are needing replaced again. I am told the TSB no longer applies since it is out of warranty. I see others having the same issue. Can Hyundai be held accountable for obviously replacing a defective part with another one?
Rear suspension with auto level function is not working properly. Rear is super stiff and bouncy ride over small imperfections on the road. Even with brand new tires it’s still an unpleasant ride. Rear passengers are not comfortable anymore.
The ride is extremely bumpy, especially for children in the back seats. Hyundai has replaced the shocks/struts twice with less than 20,000 miles on the car. They are apparently using the same part which is why they keep wearing out badly.
Self-leveling shocks are bad just over 70,000, when the vehicle is out of warranty. Contacted Hyundai with no assistance. Did my own research and found that it seems to be a known issue with Hyundai Palisades. [XXX] [XXX] Seems ridiculous that a part so expensive without the option for aftermarket parts would be going bad so easily. My safety has not been jeopardized YET; however, worn or broken shock absorbers can lead to reduced braking efficiency, which could be a serious safety risk in the event of an emergency braking situation. In addition, worn or broken shock absorbers can cause your vehicle to skid on wet roads Repairs are ongoing with an independent service provider. The rear suspension makes a clunking noise. This is a known issue for the palisade and because I’m at 80,000 miles on the vehicle they want me to pay $6,000 for the replacement! This is insane.
Having noise from the rear suspension while hitting a bump or turning. dealer says its in the shock or the mounting assembly. I am concerned if its in the mounting of the shock, and the shocks are loose it could be a safety issue. Its been months now and it is getting worse. the dealer is not communicating with me on fixing the problem.it was fixed once on. 11/9/2022 invoice [XXX] and on 8/22/2024 invoice [XXX] it started again Larry miller Hyundai Peoria az. The rear shocks on my vehicle were checked and the left rear is requiring replacement at approximately 33K miles. The leakage was gradual and after the ride became noticeably rough, I took it for diagnosis at Safford Brown in Fairfax, VA. A failed left rear shock was confirmed. I am replacing to make the ride bearable, and in researching the issue, learned of a TSB for my model year issued by Hyundai for rear shock problems. I will request that the dealer keep the bad components if needed for further action to be pursued with Hyundai. The service advisor also noted very uneven wear on three tires which I believe to be directly caused by the gradual failure of the shock. An alignment was recommended. I have been advised by the service advisor and technician that the right rear shock is intact and does not require replacement at this time.
Suspension has made a thumping/creaking noise from both side of rear since new. Brought it to two dealers and they could not fix. The problem has been only getting worse over time. I worry the rear shocks are another component is going to fail and the ride quality / road holding ability has also been getting worse. I have entered details for when the problem first started (essentially when new) but it continues to this date.
The rear shocks have failed multiple times on my vehicle. The original shocks failed under 50k miles. I had them replaced on February 14 with OEM shocks at the dealership. The replacement rear driver side shock began leaking last week, approximately 6.5 months after install. It is currently available for inspection upon request. Without properly working shocks, the car is more difficult to control over rough roads, and creates a safety hazard for myself and others. The original shock issue that was corrected in February was reproduced by the dealer and an independent service center. The new problem is self diagnosed, but is very evident when looking at part and surrounding area (fluid leaking from the shock and dirtying the surrounding parts). The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or other parties. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to failure.
Noise and rough going over bumps in the rear
The rubber covering on the rear passenger side strut top insulator disintegrated twice. It was replaced in 2022 at 20,000 miles and now again in 2024 at 57,000. It was confirmed by the dealer and acknowledge that this is a known problem. The issue caused a loud knocking sound when I drove and vehicle instability. I was afraid to drive my vehicle until it was fixed. There were no messages, warnings or lamps that indicated what the issue was.
1) Back end of the vehicle sways, bounces at any speed when going over slightest bump. Driving with failing shocks or struts has a direct impact on your ability to control vehicle. Research indicates KNOWN ISSUE with 2020-2021 Hyundai Palisades - TSB22-SS-001H issued for PART of the problem but no recall. Hyundai clearly knows about it but not issuing needed recall because it is a warranty item, hoping customers don't realize it until out of warranty. Mine still in warranty, 48K miles. Rear- self leveling shocks appear to be the issue along with upper insulator piece. See Forum: [XXX] ) Another KNOWN ISSUE with cracking windshields same model. Mine cracked [XXX] while parked under cover - no apparent cause, Hyundai wanted over 1K to replace - had to use insurance to replace it. The rear self leveling shocks pop and rattle and ultimately fail. What used to be a comfortable ride is now a stiff bouncy response in the rear whenever traversing any but a smooth road. The bounce is so bad it affects the driver and at times the ability to maintain a straight course.
2020 Palisade with Automatic leveling shocks has failed with 37000 miles. As per Hyundai forum it appears that this is a regular occurrence and should be recalled due to premature seals leaking!
Self leveling shocks in the rear of the vehicle are failing (leaking, locking up) very early in their life span. Significant adverse effects to ride and handling.
Rear shock absorbers are not functioning properly after 70,000 miles. I have had no success after no less than 10 attempts to purchase replacements from dealers and online Hyundai parts suppliers. Hyundai is aware of the defective shock absorber issue but has not corrected the replacement issue.
The car started very slightly making a clunking noise and it progressively got worse. We've taken it for every scheduled maintenance and didn't know anything was wrong. We asked for it to be specifically checked at our recent oil change and were told it is a unfortunate COMMON issue that HYUNDAI IS AWARE of BUT the warranty ended on that about 6 months ago - something that should've been addressed and resolved, they waited until out of warranty and didn't do anything and now the fix is $1700 (rear struts need to be replaced) car jumps and it will get even worse. Also the wipers turn on when there is no rain but don't turn on when it rains the sensors are messed up
Rear shock absorbers leaking and need replacement Can fail at any time and cause vehicle to swerve while driving Yes,inspected by dealer and was told "its a known issue" Loud clunking noise coming from rear is how we noticed
Vehicle front and rear suspension has unsafe shock/strut equipment, which causes lack of control while driving, audible noise within the passenger compartment, and rough handling.
2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited rear and front shock towers and/or stabilizer links rattle and are not stable at low speeds, and probably at high speeds also but for traffic noise. Causing instability when navigating in traffic and under road conditions
The self-leveling rear suspension on this vehicle has failed twice at approximately every 20,000 miles. I do not tow anything or haul heavy loads. It is a family transport vehicle that is primarily operated on smooth, flat paved roads in a suburban environment. The service writer at Don Moore Hyundai in Owensboro, KY advised that this is a very common issue due to poor design. The components require complete replacement. My personal research via vehicle interest/information forums seems to support this claim as many others have been experiencing the same issue. There is no warning that failure is imminent. The suspension makes a knocking sound, primarily at low speed. Ride and handling are negatively impacted, and the tires are subject to damage and premature wear. The vehicle is available for inspection and it is serviced at the aforementioned dealership.
