2018 HONDA CR-V Forward Collision Avoidance Warnings Problems

the car suddenly would not go over 10 mph. all driver-assistance was lost. the dashboard was rotating warning alarms that all systems were not functional. it turned out to be the result of a faulty engine design that necessitated a head gasket replacement!

While driving on a residential street at about 30 mph, our car suddenly, on its own and without warning, braked sharply. There was no other vehicle near to initiate the sharp braking. Had there been a car behind us at the time, the braking was so sharp it hit might have rear ended our car. We have now taken the car to the dealer for their assessment of the issue and a solution.

Hi I have been trying to take care of fuel pump related recall for a while and went to Millers Honda NYS REG R- 4040274 3 times and every time I realize there is problems with vehicles safety features and acceleration and it won’t pass inspection. Few times it felt like as if vehicle would stop in the middle of the road because i couldn’t accelerate. Recently I was charged almost 1500 dollars for a problem they should have fixed in 2023. In 2023 I attempted to make a complaint with the DMV and they temporarily fixed the problem and it would come back time to time. Please help and investigate.

multipurpose (windshield) camera has failed on 5 occasions making adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, forward collision warning and lane departure warning inoperable. Camera has been completely replaced twice at considerable expense. Dealer is scheduled to investigate again

Vehicle is currently in the shop due to safety sensors and cameras. The car has less than 70k miles and is excellent condition. But when I started my car all the sensors did not work.

As I was driving about 20 mph on a two lane road through a neighborhood, I went through an area with cones on either side of the road where the road narrowed some because of construction. There were large metal or steel plates covering the road for about 4 feet or so over the asphalt, but nothing that impeded driving forward. As I approached that area, my car’s BRAKE message flashed a few times and beeped before my car abruptly slammed to a stop in the middle of the road, shortly before the metal plates. This happened so quickly that I was unable to react when I first saw the flashing “brake” message and heard the beeping. Issues started in 2018 when it was bought. Before the first oil change dipstick oil level keep going 1 inch over the max level. Exhaust smells gas. Dealership said it’s nothing. I am reporting a dangerous malfunction of the CMBS system, and I don't know if the fuel pump recall, which my Honda dealer will repair on 2/3/25, has any affect on the CMBS, causing the car to brake without cause/randomly, when no vehicle or anything else is near. Last year I was almost hit from behind on the Harlem River Drive when it happened, and last week on the Palisades Parkway, an equally dangerous situation, and the car behind had to swerve into the left lane to avoid hitting me. The automatic braking on our 2018 Honda CRV EX-L has gone off erroneously several times. Recently was on an onramp on the highway going over 50mph, automatic braking went off for no reason, almost causing an accident in heavy traffic.

I was driving on a local road at night with no vehicles in front of me. Suddenly, The Forward Collision Warning light came on and the Automatic Emergency Brake was triggered. I had to let go off the gas temporarily, and the vehicle was operable again. on several occasions the Forward Collision Warning light would come on for a second then disappear with nothing in front of me. These seem to have occurred mostly at night time.

The dealership replaced the fuel pump & now numerous dash lights are on. When the fuel pump gets replaced does the recall cover the fuel filter?

While driving on the San Francisco Bay Bridge in at about 20 miles an hour with a distance of 2.5 to 3 cars between my CRV and the car in front of me the "BRAKE" indicator light flashed once and the car came to a jolting stop. I was very startled and cars behind me also came to a sudden stop. Following a few seconds, the car was able to accelerate normally again. The "BRAKE" indicator light has flashed many times since I bought the car in January of 2019, but the car never stopped. I brought the car to Honda of Oakland. Where I was told that they'd never heard of this happening. A a brake inspection was completed, but they were unable to replicate the incident. I was told that the sensors were cleaned of debris in case that's what caused the incident.

There are actually two issues that are going on with this car. First off, on three separate occasions, while driving at 70 mph on the freeway in traffic, my car has braked for me and the collision warning went off. However, there was nobody in front of me. Multipurpose windshield camera failed which disable many of the driver assistance safety systems. Dashboard display showed constant multiple system failures that could not be turned off by driver. Replacing the multipurpose windshield camera and recalibrating the camera cleared all the system failures. Cost for repairs was $1,737 which seems extreme for a camera.

While driving all the warning lights for every vehicle system came on. I was just pulling onto a highway when this occured and was not sure to pull to the side for fear vehicle was going to have a problem, especially when the alerts for break system failure came on.

Forward Collision Warning breaking even though nobody is in front of me.

The vehicle has presented this issue twice now: The first: I was driving through a rural area at around 25 mph. As I approached a set of train tracks, I slowed down, knowing that the entrance to the train tracks was pretty rough. As I started across the train tracks, the car suddenly and rapidly applied the brakes. At this point, the audible and visual braking alerts were activated. I tried to use the accelerator to override the random braking and get off of the train tracks, but the car just revved without moving. At this point, I realized that the car had somehow shifted into neutral. Once I shifted it back into Drive, the car resumed normal operation. I was driving my mother's 2018 Honda CR-V at a steady rate of about 30 mph when there was a warning chirp and the car suddenly braked hard and came to a complete stop. At that time, I was at least 30 feet behind the car in front and both my car and the one in front were traveling at the same speed. I can only assume that the collision avoidance system kicked in unexpectedly. After stopping, I restarted the car and proceeded normally, with no warning lights showing.

While driving without any surrounding traffic I have experienced three instances where the collision warning system will be triggered and initiate emergency braking. At this time, I have not had any collisions. However, I have ensured after each incident that my collision settings were set to the lowest sensitivity to prevent such an occurrence. However, that has not been the case and I have not been able to receive any assistance from the dealership in relation to this matter.

Multi purpose camera failure that impacts the safety features in my vehicle. Many people have reported this, however Honda still hasn’t created a recall on it. Dealership wants $1900 to replace, but this is a safety feature how is this not on Honda to handle?

I was driving on the highway at a speed of 65-70 MPH. The car's adaptive cruise control was set and keeping pace. Suddenly, every light on the dash turned on with the adaptive cruise control and lane assist turning off. Luckily my hands were on the wheel and the car didn't leave the lane. Eventually, this was diagnosed and attributed to faulty fuel injectors. This seems to be a common problem with the 2017 model Honda CRVs and luckily for me, ended safely. But if this was my wife or kid driving, it could have ended poorly. I still ask why is the fuel injector issue, which makes the car engine run more rich, connected to the cruise control / lane assist software that can result in a safety problem.

First incident: I was stopped at an intersection and when I proceeded to cross the intersection the automatic brake engaged. There was no one in front of me and the car behind me nearly crashed into my rear. The weather was clear and sunny. The second incident occurred two days ago. I was driving on my street and the brake engaged. It was raining. I contacted the dealer today (Sussman Honda at 1543 Easton Rd, Abington, PA 19001) and was told that this is "normal for ALL automatic braking systems" and not to worry.

My car has regularly over the years I have owned it (brand new) hit the brakes on its own. The braking is so violent that all the contents of my car fly forward. I have had this type of braking occur when there is no obstruction in the road, no indication of a front end collision about to occur, nor lane crossings. This has happened a handful of times, less than 10, since 2018. However, my front crash detection has also triggered the BRAKE visual and audible warning more times that I can count that were unwarranted. It has triggered on light poles on the side of the road and the Centerville Turnpike Bridge regularly (Chesapeake, VA). Video is attached. Apon starting my car I can have a electrical/computer problem where all my safety systems start flashing problems or warnings. This can go on for a week and then disappear. When on I loose my cruise control, emergency braking and warning, low tire light stays on and other emergency systems show failure. My dealership said it could be low fuel pressure but not sure. Car runs great. I should not loose safety systems if pressure is low. I will be going back in and have a serious talk with service supervisor. Again I have attached a video of the drivers dash. Lane keep assist, adaptive cruise, collision mitigation control, and other safety features are unavailable. Problem has been confirmed by independent service center. Has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. No prior warning lamps until all warning lamps come on. Appears to be related to fuel injector failure code but the mechanic is not certain. I wonder if this is related to the fuel/oil contamination issue that this vehicle was part of a recall for.

Most recent issue occurred 10/25/23 with 2018 CRV. Traveling 15-20mph and approached a metal plate in the roadway in a construction area when car abruptly applied breaks without warning and car came to complete stop, almost causing me to be rear-ended by truck behind me. I was driving on a 2 lane highway, in the right travel lane, at approximately 60 MPH. There were no vehicles immediately in front of me in this lane, however, there was a line of stopped vehicles in the breakdown lane (to the right of my vehicle), because the off-ramp was backed up onto the highway. Fuel injectors. This causes electronic safety system to go haywire telling me they have malfuctioned. Evidently this is caused by the fuel injectors going bad. This puts the safety of me and my family at risk. All these failures can cause an accident. Research shows Honda Knows this and has discontinued the fuel injectors because they are faulty leaving owners without any resolution. They have no timeframe to resolve this. Could be months with owners not knowing how to proceed. therefore should not Honda be forced to buy back the curve just like Volkswagen did a few years back. Tired of car manufacturers putting the publics safety at fault because they put profits ahead of safety. I did my due diligence in researching this. Dealership in no help as their hands are tied because of Honda corporations failure.

On multiple instances and most recently two days ago, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) has triggered orange "BRAKE" warnings or automatically applied the brakes to my 2018 CR-V despite there being no vehicles or obstacles ahead. Sometimes, this is caused by the system apparently getting confused by flat plates on the ground (for construction), shadows, or construction markings on the road, but about half of the time, there is absolutely nothing there. 2018 Honda CR-V EX Shortly after purchasing my Honda CR-V in Feb 2018, I noticed a strong smell of gas when I changed the oil. I found a recall bulletin regarding fuel mixing with oil and worked with Honda to have a software update (Case #*******) in late 2018. Afterwards, the vehicle performed normally and has for a few years. Approximately 12 months ago every light on the instrumentation panel came on (Vehicle Stability, Adaptive Cruise Control, Tire Pressure monitoring, Collision avoidance, Lane Keep assist, etc) I used a code reader and found that the only hard code was P0172 “Fuel System Too Rich”. On September 6, 2023 at approximately 5:30 pm, I was driving approximately 30 mph when suddenly my car stopped abruptly for no reason. Consequently although with seat belt on, my head and neck were thrown forward and back. There was no obstacle in my path...the nearest vehicle in front of me was about one city block away. I had an immediate headache and my neck was hurt also. This pain lasted several hours. I had my grandson and his friend in my vehicle at the time and they were wearing their seatbelts and fortunately they were not injured.I made an appointment with the dealer and went the next day They adjusted this system and told me these things have occurred possibly because of a shadow or something else off to the side of the road. There was nothing in either case.

The brakes of my car activated automatically while my foot was pressing neither the gas nor the brake pedal. The forward collision alert also sounded. I was traveling at around 45 mph and was suddenly slowed to about 20 mph. Afterwards, everything seemed to returned to normal. I am unsure if this is available for inspection. There were five of us in the car and we were all put in danger due to the sudden change in speed while in traffic, however no collisions or injuries resulted from this incident. This issue has been previously reported by the NHTSA. The vehicle has not been inspected. There were no prior messages or symptoms.

On Aug 15, 2023 i was turning left at an intersection with no cars in front of me and no cars in oncoming traffic. i was going 20-25mph and slowing down a little bit to turn when i drove over a standard metal plate on the road and my 2018 Honda crv came to a complete abrupt and loud , painful stop. Lucky i wasn’t going any faster and there weren’t any cars immediately behind me. It did cause some pain in my back and neck and shook me up at the abruptness.

Reporting an old incident as it matches an issue with the current open investigation on the Emergency Collision Brake system in the Honda CR-V line. Was driving down the highway unobstructed, no vehicles in front of me but had vehicles a fair distance behind me. Emergency forward collision system engaged with no warning, with zero obstructions, and stopped my vehicle on a dime. Had the cars behind me been closer, there would have been a collision into the back of my vehicle. Vehicle was inspected by a local Honda dealership and a cause was not found, but brake booster was replaced as a precaution under warranty.

I was driving on the highway with plenty of distance between me and cars in front of me. My brake warnings came up (forward collision warning) when unnecessary, and my car stopped in the middle of the highway without me putting my foot on the brake pedal. It was a strong enough brake to jolt me forward in the car. This almost caused me to be rear-ended as the car behind me had to stop unexpectedly.

First, the forward camera failed and was replaced at cost of $1800. There were no problems with the original camera until it failed. The replacement camera has since three times initiated an emergency stop at a particular road location where there is no hazard.

I am getting intermittent BRAKING happening on my car, slowing me down while in motion. There is no object in front on me. This is a safety issue!

Collision mitigation braking system malfunctioned. We noticed alerts from the system when strong shadows appeared across the road such as from an overpass, heavy trees, etc. At first it was the "Brake" alert indicator only, on three known occasions. A couple weeks later, the car activated the collision mitigation braking system for no reason. We were travelling at 55 MPH on a country road with no vehicles, pedestrians, nor animals nearby. As we approached shadows from tall trees, the emergency braking activated suddenly, bringing the car to a complete stop. Thankfully no vehicles were behind us. Vehicle was brought to Honda dealership for service. Inspected the system and told us all components were properly aligned to manufacturer specifications.
