Emission system, low acceleration to the point it becomes a safety hazard in the freeway, I almost got rear ended twice, the car jolts, it stops out of no where, head gasket issues at only 65k. Maintenance was kept up but there’s a Facebook group called Honda sport 2018 to 22 on these models of the same issue “Christmas tree lights”

I am writing regarding my recently purchased used 2018 Honda Accord. The car has low mileage and initially ran well, but it has developed a recurring cylinder misfire problem. When this happens, the car slows down and cannot exceed 20 mph. This issue has occurred several times—once while my daughter was driving on the highway, creating a dangerous situation as she tried to pull over safely. I took the car to both a Honda dealership and an independent mechanic. The dealership diagnosed a head gasket issue and quoted over $6,000 for repairs. However, the independent shop could not identify the issue—no error codes appeared during their diagnostic scan. After I shared the dealer’s diagnosis, the independent mechanic mentioned that this may be a known design flaw in certain Honda Accords from this model range. From what I’ve learned, the problem involves the engine’s cooling system design. The coolant travels inside...

I was driving the car and it stopped working the car was just rolling, it lost speed in the road! All the warning lights were displaying, including the engine light. I took this car in to have a dynastic test at the Honda dealership. They reported it was the head gaskets. I’m very disappointed and don’t have the extra money for experience repairs.

I was driving on a highway when a warning popped up about engine temperature being high, advising I avoid heavy acceleration. No other codes came. I parked the car and it sat for about 8 hours. I had a short drive and no warnings came on. I drove on a highway about 30 minutes the next morning and again, no warnings. I was about 2 hours from home. About half way, we stopped for food, still no issues, but when we got on the highway, within about 5 miles warning lights came on about engine temp and the car went into limp mode. I had to have it towed to our loacl honda dealer. They confirmed COOLANT INTRUSION CYLINDER 3 AND 4 CONFIRMING HEAD GASKET FAILURE . Cost setimate was $6063. My car is on;y 6 12 year old, 140,000 miles and has always been maintained.

I took my 2018 Honda Accord into the dealership to get the Fuel pump Recall fixed, which took a year to get scheduled. I got that fixed in August, prior to getting the replacement I hadn’t had any issues with the car. About a week ago my car started sputtering and bucking while I was driving it. It felt like it wasn’t getting any fuel. The car left me sit on the highway, threw an engine misfiring code and almost caused an accident because it wouldn’t accelerate, and there were angry drivers behind me. I called the dealership, managed to get it there and they are now telling me I have a bad Head Gasket, which they want $5000 to replace. I had no prior issues and there initial inspection of the car after changing the fuel pump recall, had nothing about any issues with my coolant or gaskets. Is...

My Honda vehicle experienced a blown head gasket at approximately 123,000 miles, despite being properly maintained according to the manufacturer’s service schedule. This is a known and recurring issue in this engine type, which has been the subject of numerous consumer complaints and a pending class action lawsuit alleging a design defect that causes premature head gasket failure. The engine failed without warning signs such as overheating or coolant loss prior to the incident. I contacted Honda’s customer service and the Goodwill Program, but they declined to assist, stating the vehicle was out of warranty. A head gasket should not fail at this mileage, and this appears to be a widespread safety and reliability issue that may affect other vehicles with the same engine design. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this pattern of premature head gasket failure in Honda vehicles and take appropriate action to hold Honda accountable for...

2018 Honda Accord Sport, 1.5 l motor, 60k miles. loss of power under throttle. Bad head gasket. Diagnosed by dealership.

I had submitted last year a complaint about my vehicles head gasket being blown. Had to take a loan out to replace it and the turbo . Now a year later the head gasket failed again which shouldn’t have since I’ve been on top of maintenance. My vehicle is a 2018 Honda accord 1.5T .

My vehicle is losing power while traveling on the road. All of the system lights are flashing and the gas mileage is ridiculous. It sputters uncontrollably and just stalls out and drops speed really quick. I’m really concerned for my well being. I’ve spent so much money trying to fix these issues and I don’t think it’s fair to me or any other Honda owner to have to be held responsible for something that is clearly a manufacturing issue. Although there was not a crash during this incident, it’s very dangerous and I’m terrified to drive my car but I have no other transportation right now.

3 weeks after having this vehicle, the car started running hot and experiencing all types of jerking problems. I started to do my research on why suddenly the car was running hot, jerking, and other things. I noticed a thread line expressing the EXACT same issues that I was experiencing which were from bad head gaskets. I took my vehicle to the dealership to have this issue checked and verify. I also had an independent mechanic shop evaluate the vehicle as well. Both results were the same. This is a design flaw on the manufacture behalf and I reached out to the Honda Corporate only to be denied assistance with fixing the known issue because it was “out of the date” range for their goodwill claim. This vehicle will run hot and you will have to pull over on the side of the road to allow engine to cool in...

While accelerating car jerks at times. At time car will go in limp mode I’ll have to safely try to get to side of road turn car off. Restart and continue driving. I’ve changed spark plugs, coil packs, turbo, fuel injectors, fuel pump and battery. I continue to put money into my car and nothing helps.

Car had 80 thousand no heating or oil problems has been maintained through Honda. Recall on fuel pump replaced. Car starts rough, took it in a diagnostic was done revealing a possible leak near 3 cylinder possibly head gasket. Code P0304 came up with all break light codes reading. No oil leak. No over heating. Honda indicates blown head gasket.
#11695378 |
Lost coolant and engine over heated. Inspected by shop and determined that the coolant is leaking into the engine due to head gasket issue. This could cause extreme engineer overheating and cause fire in engine. based on available information from other owners of the accord 1.5T 2018, this is common issue.
#11695347 |
Mechanic shop verified blown head gasket. Vehicle never overheated and was diagnosed after vehicle began to feel like it was misfiring. Mechanic used scope and found coolant leaking into head.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 50-55 MPH, the vehicle was jerking before shutting off. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact was able to move over safely. The vehicle was restarted and continued to drive. The ABS, steering, battery, engine, and Lane Departure warning lights were flashing. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer for NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Shelor Motor Mile (270 Jarrett Dr SE, Christiansburg, VA 24073), who confirmed that the fuel pump had not been serviced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000. The VIN was not available.

My 2018 Honda Accord Sport has experienced repeated engine and turbocharger problems related to a likely head gasket failure. For nearly two years, I had to replace the spark plugs every six months without ever getting a check-engine light. When I brought the vehicle to Hardin Honda in Anaheim, the dealer ran a test and said the head gasket was fine at that time. However, the issues continued, and eventually, the head gasket and turbocharger both failed. I can't spent about $4,000 in repairs, and I lost significant time without my vehicle, which affected my ability to work. Additional Details: Honda replaced my fuel pump twice. The first failure caused my engine to go into limp mode on the freeway, which was extremely dangerous and also damaged the turbocharger. Honda replaced the engine computer (ECU) only six months after I purchased the car. When I contacted Honda corporate, they admitted...

Head casket issue caused the engine to go bad .. every light on dash board is on
#11694347 |
Head gasket problem. Coolant leaking into cylinder #2, head gasket needs replacing. The car is currently at a Honda dealership & they inspected/ confirmed that this was the issue. They expressed this was a common issue with this car. The first signs of issues happened while driving uphill on the freeway, the car started to “jump” when trying to accelerate. A couple of minutes later, the car would not accelerate while driving & the check engine light turned on. The second time, this happened much quicker. In a span of a couple of seconds, the car “jumped” while driving on the freeway again, and slowed down and would not accelerate, but various lights on the dash turned on this time. This is obviously very dangerous as a car suddenly decelerating while driving can cause the driver and others on the road to crash. There were no warning lights on prior...

I have a 2018 Honda accord 1.5t I have always done oil changes and maintenance accordingly. My car went into limp mode over the summer. I brought it to my dealership who said the head gasket was bad and it was going to cost over 5,000$ to fix. This is a known problem on these cars as I have gathered information all over the internet. Honda refuses to do the right thing and have a recall. I do not have the money to replace the head gasket at the hefty dealership level. I have been waiting over 3 months in an attempt of a DIY replacement. The company I have been ordering with has had many issues and I am still without a vehicle. The vehicle only has 138,000 miles
#11694249 |
The fuel injectors became faulty at about 90,000 miles, a mechanic could not identify the issue until about 110,000 miles. A blow head gasket followed.

100k miles on our Honda when there showed Misfire in cylinder 3 kept coming up. Changed the coils and spark plugs. The car lost power on the freeway almost resulting in a collision. Had the car towed to Honda dealership where they quoted us 4800$ for a head gasket. Honda knows what they’ve done. I will never in my life buy another Honda.
#11693764 |
I have changed turbo, coil packs, fuel injectors, spark plugs, battery, fuel pump and my vehicle still give misfire in cylinder 3. Honda knows it’s a turbo and head gasket issue and will NOT do a recall on this for the vehicles. HORRIBLE company. Will never buy another Honda

While driving, my 2018 Honda Accord suddenly lost power and went into limp mode with no prior overheating or warning signs. The acceleration dropped instantly, and the vehicle nearly caused an accident as it seized up in traffic. Diagnostic scan showed a P0303 cylinder 3 misfire, which is consistent with head gasket failure. The issue has been widely reported among other Honda Accord owners with the same engine, and it appears to be a recurring defect. This failure is dangerous because the car can lose power abruptly at highway speeds or during normal driving, putting drivers and passengers at risk of collisions. The vehicle was properly maintained and had no prior indication of internal damage or overheating. The head gasket failure is sudden and mechanical, not caused by user neglect. It needs to be investigated as a manufacturer defect before it leads to serious accidents or injuries.

Head gasket for the second time
#11693248 |
The car loses power. It starts as a misfire on cylinder 2 (P0302 code) and the engine starts to shutdown (or goes into a safe mode with no power). The result is loss of speed which creates a safety hazard especially on highways. This has happened multiple times and the car has been in the shop 4 times for this issue. We have to pull off the road, turn the car off, sit for a minute and restart the car. It will then run ok. This has happened during acceleration and when just trying to keep speed on an incline. The dealership has not been able to identify an issue. The head gasket was replaced in April 2025 because they thought there was a pin hole that was causing oil to push into the cylinder. The misfire continued to happen. It was in the shop on October 2025 and they...

Bad fuel injectors reported by diagnostic testing done by Honda dealership after recall was completed on fuel pump. All warning lights on dashboard lite up and multiple warnings from car. This is a known issue with these specific Honda engines. Very costly repairs that if not completed can cause other engine issues.

I lost power to the vehicle in the middle of the road as I was accelerating uphill approaching a stop light getting ready to get on the on ramp to the highway. All the dashboard lights came on and the check engine light was flashing. I had to let my car idle it's way to the side of the road. I took my car to a Honda dealership. Diagnosis showed cylinder 3 misfire, coolant leaking into cylinder 3 indicating a blown head gasket. A couple of weeks before the loss of power to the vehicle, my car was sputtering and jerking when accelerating. It would get really bad when accelerating uphill.

I own a 2018 Honda Accord with approximately 131,000 miles. The vehicle suffered a blown head gasket that my mechanic identified as originating from a known design or manufacturing defect in Honda’s 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. They diagnosed the problem before they had my vehicle in their possession because they have already seen this so many times in other 2018 Honda Accords. The engine began showing symptoms such as coolant loss, rough idle, "Christmas tree" engine lights, and an overheating warning light. There was no sign of external coolant leakage. A professional inspection confirmed head-gasket failure. I have maintained the vehicle according to Honda’s recommended service schedule and have documentation for all maintenance. I contacted my local Honda dealership and Honda’s customer service department seeking goodwill or warranty assistance. Despite multiple attempts and escalation to a “warranty specialist,” Honda denied coverage and refused to contribute to repairs. The repair estimate exceeds...

I own a 2018 Honda Accord EX-L equipped with the 1.5-liter turbo engine. Over time, the vehicle began showing symptoms of coolant loss without any visible leaks, a sweet odor under the hood, and intermittent white smoke from the exhaust after startup. The engine would sometimes idle roughly and hesitate under acceleration. No external leaks were found by my mechanic. I later learned that these symptoms are consistent with a possible head-gasket or coolant-intrusion issue affecting this engine type. The problem poses a potential safety risk because coolant can enter the combustion chambers, leading to engine misfire, loss of power, or complete engine failure while driving. The issue has not yet been formally recalled, but I have seen multiple complaints and reports of similar failures in 2018–2022 Accords, Civics, and CR-Vs with the same 1.5-liter turbo engine. A warning light (“check engine”) appeared intermittently, and the temperature gauge fluctuated during...

While driving the car, the oil light came on and the engine died. Losing vehicle power while driving poses a very serious safety risk. After taking it to a Honda dealership, the mechanic diagnosed the following issue: "head gasket has failed causing coolant to leak into Cylinder 3".

Head gasket leak after replacing recalled fuel pump. Took my car in for safety recall on fuel pump, just 24 hrs later every check engine light came on and my vehicle slowed to a stop (car went into limp mode). This happened on a busy street with vehicles flying by. I had my vehicle towed to Lancaster Honday (CA) where they did my safety recall the day before, they confirmed the head gasket leak. I had my vehicle diagnostics done at a different place as well and they confirmed the bad news, but also said this should not be happening to a new car with 66,000 miles. They advised I call corporate Honda and have them do a goodwill repair where the pay the repair since it is out of its 60,000 miles warranty. I had zero symptoms of this happening before it actually happened. I regularly had maintenance done...

Bad head gasket. Coolant leaking into cylinders
#11691150 |
Driving on highway, check engine light went on and car lost all power would not go over 5 mph scared for my life as I was almost hit by other vehicles traveling at hi rates of speed . I managed to get the car to the shoulder. I turned the car off and restarted, and the car went back to operating normal. Car was checked by a friend who is a mechanic, and he told me there were codes for misfires after checking all the issues that could cause that type of problem he informed me that a pressure test on the coolant system revealed a blown head gasket which allowed coolant to leak in the cylinders causing miss fires due to the anti freeze extinguishing the spark of the spark plugs. I researched this matter and it's see to be a very common problem with many hondas with the...

My 2018 Honda Accord at only 63,000 started to lose power and all the emergency lights went on. Diagnosed as a misfire and now requires a new head gasket. This was told to me by the dealer to be a well known problem with the 1.5 T 2018 Honda Accord.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated that occasionally, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked and the engine lost compression. The check engine warning light was occasionally illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed back to the same local dealer where it was diagnosed with a blown head gasket. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated that two weeks after the vehicle was repaired under an undisclosed NHTSA Campaign, the message "See Dealer" was displayed. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the same local dealer, and the fuel injectors were replaced. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine temperature gauge became elevated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local O' riley, where it was diagnosed with turbo assembly sensor failure. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a turbo assembly sensor failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, there was a misfire coming from the engine. My 2018 Honda Accord EX is currently having FUEL injector problems at 41,000 miles. Honda is trying to tell me that FUEL injectors do NOT get affected by the recalled FUEL pump. This is very silly because the FUEL pump and FUEL injectors work together. They want $1,800 to replace the FUEL injectors at Honda. I already completed the recall on the FUEL pump, and afterward, they told me my injector was running too rich and needed to be replaced for $1800. There are so many Honda 1.5Ts experiencing these same issues, and Honda does not want to do anything about it. I am currently taking my car to a local shop to get the FUEL injectors replaced for $1,327. I believe I should be reimbursed since the FUEL pump is what caused my FUEL injectors to fail. Honda is trying to tell me that two FUEL components of a...

I own a 2018 Honda Accord Sport. About 2–3 months ago, the car began having repeated engine misfires (P0301), hesitation, and stalling while driving. At the same time, multiple dashboard warnings appear, including Steering Assist Reduced, Brake System Problem, Collision Mitigation Braking System Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control System Problem, Emission System Problem, and Hill Start Assist Problem, these failures occur suddenly while the vehicle is in motion, creating a serious risk of loss of engine power, reduced braking performance, loss of steering assist, and disabled crash-avoidance systems. I have already performed extensive maintenance: new ignition coils, a full tune-up, compression test, spark test, and battery/alternator check, yet the issues remain. Diagnostic scans also showed U0416-68 (invalid data from ABS/VSA module) in addition to the misfire. This suggests not only a fuel/propulsion defect but also a possible computer/control module failure that links engine, brakes, steering, and ADAS systems. These conditions match...

Recently bought this car a month ago. I started having problems with acceleration, as if the car was “bucking” every time i would press the gas normally at a red light or stop sign, accelerating from a stop. The vehicle wouldn’t make it up a hill while accelerating it was very hard bucking. I tried pressing the gas a little harder and the check engine light flashed and the car went into limp mode so i had to pull over. Made it back home and i was driving normally and every light you can imagine came up on the dash. I’ve heard from many others with the accord they’ve had the same problems but once they get it fixed the problems keep happening or the vehicle blows up. I just paid full in cash for this car and my total is fix it is already at 5k to fix.

Engine head gasket failed allowing a coolant leakage, which damaged spark plugs and fuel injectors. There is video evidence of this failure provided by the dealership service center. Link to video: [XXX] This occurred at approximately 70k mileage, which is far earlier than a failure like this would be reasonably foreseeable. I see many, many, others online who have had the same failure on my model of car at similar (early) mileages of 70k-90k. My car lost power on the highway, leading to a dangerous driving condition for myself an others. There was no obvious warnings that this would occur. After pulling over and turning off then turning on the car again, the car was intermittently drivable, with clear engine trouble. When it is cold outside my ACC light comes on and when I started my car the other day it read Emissons Service Problem Avoid Heavy Acceleration and High Speed. That was just 1 among 7 other service warning that popped up.

This car is known for its faulty engine. The head gasket tends to blow as early as 40k miles, plenty of people have had this problem and yet there is no recall for the engine or a fix. I was driving on the highway and i was speeding up to merge into traffic and my check engine light started to flash and my car went into limp mode on the highway luckily there wasn't a lot of traffic and i got the chance to pull over and restart my car. i looked online and plenty of people were experiencing this same problem they all had the same answer as well, a blown head gasket. I'm just wondering if someone has to pass away before this gets fixed.

Date of Incident: [XXX] Vehicle Information: 2018 Honda Accord VIN: [XXX] Incident Location: North Charleston, SC Estimated Vehicle Mileage at Incident: 78,000 miles On [XXX], while starting and driving my vehicle less than one mile, the engine would not accelerate above 10 MPH. Following this, multiple service alerts illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was inoperable and had to be towed to Hendrick Honda of Charleston. The diagnosed issue is a leaking cylinder head gasket. This is the second major engine-related issue this year. In May 2025, I paid over $2,000 to repair a faulty fuel sensor injector. This current repair is estimated to cost over $5,000, bringing my total repair costs for this year to over $7,000 for a five-year-old vehicle with just 78,000 miles. This recurring pattern of significant and costly engine failures, particularly the cylinder head gasket leak, indicates a serious safety defect. It is not an...

Car engine overheated while driving and car stalled and was unable to start . Took it to a mechaning and was informed that I had a blown head gasket that may be leaking coolant into the engine internally. Not having the money to fix it I had to slowly drive it home and find alternative solutions . Researching the situation and seeing that this seems to be a reoccurring and common from for 2018-2022 Honda owners and if indeed it is a company defect I would ask for a charge free recall to resolve the head gasket. This has created much stress in my life and financial worry.
