Ford is currently telling me that coolant has mixed with my engine oil and that the entire engine needs to be replaced. However, after doing some research, I found that this is a known issue with these engines, and even a Ford representative acknowledged that it's been an ongoing problem.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, he noticed white smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. The check engine and coolant warning lights illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant was leaking into cylinder #3 and that the engine would need to be inspected. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and provided the contact with the recall number, and opened a case. The contact was relating to the failure of Technical Service Bulletin: 22-2134 (Low Coolant, White Exhaust Smoke And/or Illuminated); however, the VIN was not included in the bulletin. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 122,000.
We own a 2017 ford fusion with 72,000 miles and I took it to the dealer because the engine light came on, after a couple of days at the dealer they contacted me and said I needed a new engine due to the coolant intruding in one of the pistons , I did some research on line and found out that a lot of other people seem to have had the same issue with the 2.0 eco boost engine and found out that the engine block is defective from the manufacturer, I reached out to Ford customer service and they said they couldn’t help me with this issue since my warranty was expired , I ended up replacing the engine for a new one at a cost of over 8,300 dlls and I was told to keep my receipt in case of a recall on this issue . I didn’t...
Just got my car I’m financing (used) It’s been giving me problems since I got it slow acceleration, overheat . , engine stalling Start and go Option isn’t working . Can I have a professional assist me with a recall maintenance please
My engine is now in need of replacement after 87k miles due to a coolant intrusion that Ford refuses to do a recall for my car. However, they recalled other 2017 ford fusion se’s with 2.0 engines for the same issue.
I own a 2017 Ford Fusion with 49,300 miles. The engine light went on and the car was shaking and couldn't be driven over 40 miles per hour. I brought it to the dealer and they said that the coolant leaked into the engine and that I needed a new engine. I recently found out that these engines are defective, and Ford knowingly has been selling these cars.
My vehicle was just disagnosed with the coolant intrusion issue outlined in TSB 19-2346. I have owned this car for over 6 years and not once has anybody mentioned this well-known issue to me. I am disappointed I had to find out about it by experiencing it firsthand, and then going online and reading the stories of counless other drivers who have had the same issue. This engine design is clearly faulty and Ford has been aware of the issue with these engines since at least 2019. How can it be 2025 and a recall has not been initiated??? This is unacceptable. I am now stuck with a $10,000 repair bill for a new engine because the dealer repair tech warned me not to drive it any further without repair or else risk an engine fire or even an engine seizure which would likely cause an accident. Had I been...
my Ford Eco Boost engine has a coolant intrusion which can cause overheating and possibly engine fire. There is currently a class action lawsuit against Ford and Ford has issued a TSB bulletin for this problem.
COOLANT ISSUE CAUSED ENGINE OVERHEAT WHICH LEAD TO CYLINDER MISFIRE AND ENGINE FAILURE
Engine overheats. Stalls while driving. Seizes up. Coolant intrusion
Defective head gasket or other parts led to coolant entering into the engine and causing the engine to sputter and seize. The car randomly started hiccupping while driving and would rock back and forth when trying to accelerate. The car would launch slowly from a start and made a right turn on red risky. The problem has been confirmed by a Ford dealer. The mechanic said this is a "known problem" with these engines. This problem/engine, however, is not covered under warranty. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership. There was a check engine light 3 days prior with no symptoms. The code came back with a cylinder 2 misfire. I made an appointment for the closest day possible. After 2 days, the car was a bit shaky and the unusual vibration was noticeable. On the third day, there were issues with power delivery, the sputtering became audible, and...
Ford 2017 - Coolant Intrusion - Mileage drove (116,700mi) Vehicle vibration during everyday start of the car. White smoke during every day start of engine. Engine check light is on. Took it to Ford dealer service, they confirmed its coolant intrusion and quoted 11k$ for long block replacement. I can’t afford for it. Worried that it would lead to severe risk like engine fire in near future. Requesting NHTSA to extend it as a mandatory recall for all affected Ford Vehicles.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the engine was shaking abnormally, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact checked the engine bay and noticed that the coolant reservoir was abnormally low level on coolant. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer and the contact was informed that there was a misfire in cylinder #3 due to coolant intrusion in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
1.5 Ecoboost engine leaks coolant into cylinder(s) causing misfire and engine overheating due to failed head gasket, cylinder head or crack in engine block. Ford TSB 21N12, 22-2322 and others address this exact issue. Ford failed to notify me of TSB, and the short time Ford allowed to replace engine has expired. Contact with Ford Corp resulted in no help with my car.
The cylinder wall failed which led to coolant loss into the motor
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The message to clean around the gas cap was displayed. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound and was vibrating. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact noticed that the sound was coming from the fuel tank flap. The contact stated that while pushing the fuel tank flap, the contact felt a significant air pressure, and the failure ceased after the flap was closed; however, the failure recurred while the flap was not completely closed. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing rough idling and the vehicle stalled while at a traffic light. The contact stated there was black smoke coming from the tailpipe. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where it was diagnosed and determined that...
I have a 2017 Ford Fusion with 47,000 miles on it. There is no more warranty. I took my car in to get the recall fixed and I was told I need a new engine because the coolant was leaking into cylinder . I read online that there a numerous complaints about this. I should not at 47,000 have to pay for a new engine.
The engine light came on. Brought it to have it checked. They said it was a mechanical issue. Drive it from Connecticut to South Carolina. Light came back on and went to three different mechanics. Last one said the engines on this model are defective. Brought it to Ford they said I can put in a new engine for $9,600.00. It has engine coolant leaking into the engine. Spark plug has melted into the engine and can’t be removed. The car has 65,000 miles on it. The car should have a 200,000 mile life.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving on the highway at 45 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power. The maintenance required light to be illuminated. The contact pulled over, turned off, and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted, and the contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
My son’s 2017 Ford Fusion didn’t hold its coolant. We took it to our mechanic to see what was going on. He diagnosed leaking coolant that has blown a head gasket and his car needs a new engine. We looked on the internet and found out that there is a recall on 2017 Fusions. We found out that this problem can cause fires in the car. Since this has been a problem in the past for Fusions We think this should be a recall concern since this has been a problem in the past with these vehicles. We do not want our son to perish in a vehicle that needs work that should be covered by a serious safety issue a FIRE .Please contact me at [XXX] . The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle started to hesitate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to a local dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure due to coolant intrusion into one of the cylinders. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer but was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
A known issue on the 1.5 ecoboost happened which allowed coolant inntrusion into the cylinders. Only certain vins qualify for the recall, even though more of them have the same issue. My car needs a new engine but the vin does not show a recall.
Sudden loss of power while driving, misfiring causing sudden jerk while driving, almost rear-ended, white smoke/steam now showing from exhaust. Apparent engine coolant leak. While the 2017 Fusion 2.0L ecoboost is in the coolant leak recall this VIN is not showing a recall. Car is not safe or operable with this condition. It is available for inspection

Engine codes P0300 and P0302 engine misfires. Engine has unsteady idle and feels sluggish. Engine is consuming coolant. All of these symptoms relate to ford class action lawsuit [XXX] and ford customer program Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12 Certain 2017-2019 Model Year Fusion and Escape Vehicles Equipped with a 1.5L GTDI Engine – Short Block Replacement After Coolant Intrusion But there is no recall for my vehicle to repair it when it’s clearly an engine defect per their own admission [XXX] needs to enforce a recall. There is a recall on 2017 Ford Fusion's torque converter. I currently have a 2017 Ford Fusion. After inspection at a Ford service dealership, the "torque converter clutch internally failed filling the transmission filter with metal debris and starving the pump for fluid causing debris to go throughout the transmission." The problem with this, is that even though it's list as a recall for ,y specific car, the recall is not listed under my VIN number. This inspection was done on December 17, 2024. The safety of myself and children were put at risk when my car hesitated to accelerate on multiple occurrences on busy roads and intersections. The problem has been reproduced by a Ford dealer and has also been inspected by a Ford service dealership. There were no warning lights on indicating that there was a problem.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle drove roughly, and the engine was misfiring. Additionally, the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the vehicle was idling roughly. The contact's father, who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed the failure as a blown head gasket and coolant intrusion into the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the failure was a blown head gasket and engine failure due to coolant intrusion. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact referenced Technical Service Bulletin: 22-2229; however, the repair was not covered under the TSB. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under any recalls or special programs. The contact...
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly hesitated before returning to normal functionality. The contact later observed that the coolant reservoir was empty though it had been refilled the day before. The blank warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that coolant intrusion into the engine resulted in irreparable damage. The contact was informed that a replacement engine was required. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The contact’s son owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that his son attempted to start the vehicle and became aware that the engine was struggling to turn over. The check engine warning light illuminated and there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust. The contact checked under the hood and the coolant level was significantly low. The contact’s son left the vehicle parked. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired because the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The engine died and the car shut off in the middle of trying to drive the car. All maintenance has been done on time, all recalls have been done but one (brake line hose) which was scheduled to be repaired. The car is a 2017 with 128k miles on the engine and I did NOT get any engine light notifications to indicate anything was wrong prior to the engine dying. This is a major safety concern especially since no indication lights were displayed prior to the issue.
Engine began to overheat. Drove home. Started up the next morning and it smelled liek somethin was burning. Took it a car repair. He said the collant had leaked into the engine block and the engine had to be replaced. 6 to 8 thousand dollars. Car only has 47,000 miles on it. There is a recall for the 2017 Ford Fusion for cars with ecoboost engines. Mine does not have thtat, but i see on line there a lot of people who have had this problem.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 97,772.
Vehicle was apart of a recall that involved the engine having engine intrusion. We are now suffering a vehicle that is currently no longer functioning.
Upon starting the vehicle, the engine started to vibrate violently. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Wendle Ford mechanic, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion and needed an engine replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred to contact the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65576
The engine on this vehicle needs to be replaced due to coolant intrusion into the cylinders. On my engine diagnosis I get Error Code #P0302 which indicates Cylinder 2 misfire detected. My vehicle overheats quickly, runs rough and the coolant reservoir is dry. The vehicle's exhaust blows out a lot of white-ish smoke with a sickening odor. I took my vehicle to my local Auto Nation Ford of Bellevue, WA service department. They told me it is what they have seen on a lot of Ford Eco-Boost engines and there was a recall on these for engine replacement but my 2017 vehicle falls out of the recall. They told me I need a new engine replaced in this vehicle to the cost of about $10,000. Auto Nation Ford Bellevue, WA's service department referenced service bulletin #22-2229 (Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may...
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a cracked engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The warranty company declined coverage for the repairs because of the known failure with the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 132,930.
The redesigned head gasket began to leak coolant into cylinder three causing a misfire and overheating of the engine. She stated the check engine light and the temp light both illuminated. My wife was left on the side of the road until the car could cool down to avoid further damage of fire. The initial indication was only a misfire on 3. I plan on getting a quote for the Ford recommended fix which is replacement of the engine with a new long block. This is a widespread and well known issue that has unfortunately now affected me. The car is available for inspection until I can figure out how to replace the motor with the updated and redesigned long block.
Component: Coolant leaking into motor. It is available for inspection upon request. This is the second motor ford has put in my vehicle with same issue. Both times the vehicle broke down in transit causing us to be a hazard to surrounding traffic and leaving us on the side of the road. Problem has happened in to motors in same vehicle. Both motor malfunctions verified by service centers. First motor was replaced at no cost to us by Ford Motor Company (FMC). They indicated they knew there was an issue with the motor and replaced it; however it took us 4 calls to FMC to get this acknowledgement and assistance. The first three times we called we were told that there was no known issue and it was our problem. Now that the replacement motor is doing the same thing, approximately 2 years/ 50,000 miles later we are in the...
I took my car into the shop because we had a check engine light on and it showed a P0316 code which is a cylinder one misfire. upon inspection and replacement of my spark plugs, there was coolant that was getting into the cylinders and all over the spark plugs. I spoke to the mechanic the mechanic said that this is a known problem for the 2.0 turbo motors for the Ford fusions. I was advised to contact my local Ford dealership and see if there was anything that they can do for a TSB and I contacted Ford Motor Company directly and they are not going to provide financial assistance even though it’s a known problem and is covered for other vin numbers. I have a case number which is CXH02950291. the TSB number is 22–2229 for the long block replacement. That is the only fix for this motor...
While driving on the highway at 60MPH, the check engine light came on first, then got an overheating issue. Let car cool, then drove city streets and took car to an independent auto repair shop. They read the engine and it had error code P0304. Shop bore scoped into cylinder 4 and found engine coolant. Took to dealer to confirm, they did find that engine coolant was leaking into cylinder 4 and recommended replacing engine long block assembly for $9.25k.
My vehicle 2017 Ford Fusion has a chronic condition. The coolant comes into the engine and causes an engine misfire, which is a very serious problem. The 21n12 customer satisfaction program has already come out, but I bought this car secondhand and it's already out of all conditions. I'm wondering why this issue is not a recall. Many owners of the same car are complaining of the problem and this is a serious life-threatening defect. I think you should include this in the recall right away.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he noticed white smoke leaking from the exhaust. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion and needed an engine replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
My car has been misfiring on the 4th cylinder for since the end of 2023. The first time, I was told that I needed a tune up, I did that. Months later another misfire, said I needed to change the ignition coil, did that. Then I was out of town and it misfired again. My spark plug was changed and I was able to return home. This last time [XXX], it showed another cylinder and crankshaft. I took to dealership and was initially told that I needed a tune up and had swollen lug nuts. Advised I had a tune up at 37,000 miles and car only has approximately 48,000 miles. I then requested car be tested for coolant intrusion. The test was done and a cylinders scoped and was told Yes, that is the case. Now Ford wants me to pay $9,000+ for engine replacement. They state that my...
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced rough idling and failed to accelerate as intended. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion into the short block and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle shuddered abnormally. The message "Coolant Overheated" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to Firestone, where it was diagnosed with a coolant leak into the cylinder head gasket. The contact was informed that the cylinder head gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,965.
There was coolant intrusion into my engine which caused the engine to start seizing and misfiring and it also rusted a spark plug into cylinder #4. From my research this seems to be a known and common issue with EcoBoost Ford Fusions (I have a 2017 Ford Fusion 1.5L EcoBoost). This issue apparently can also cause fires and I'm lucky that it didn't happen to me. The Peacock Ford Service Center in Maitland, Florida confirmed to me that this is a known issue. The engine has been inspected by a Firestone as well as the Ford Service Center that i previously mentioned. The only symptom of the failure was the check engine light coming on but the only reason it came on was because the engine started misfiring.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated, prompting the contact to drive the vehicle to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer retrieved fault code for a cylinder #2 misfire. The contact was informed that the spark plugs, fuel injectors, and the engine needed to be replaced, due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder head. The contact was informed that the failure might be related to an unknown recall; however, the VIN tool showed no open recalls on the VIN. The spark plugs and fuel injectors were replaced and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.
Coolant consumption through the engine due to faulty long block assembly. TSB has been issued but no recall. Ford motor company has known of this issue since at least December 19th 2019. TSB 19-2346
My car developed a miss in the engine that continued to get worse. It was inspected at the dealership, Key Scales Ford, in Leesburg, Florida. The check engine light was on and the car showed a code of PO303, misfire in #3 cylinder. It was determined that there was a crack in the block and coolant was entering #3 cylinder. The approximate costs to replace the engine were over $10,000 and the car had a trade-in value of approximately $9,000 so repair out of my pocket was not a smart option. Through research of my own I learned of NHTSA action which had led to a Ford Technical Service Bulletin TSB 21-2134. I contacted the Ford Customer Satisfaction Program and was told my VIN was not included under the TSB, even though it had the exact same problem. Ford refused to participate in any type of resolution despite this being...
