AFTER STOPPING IN TRAFFIC AND WAITING TO TURN LEFT IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STEER AS I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP. THIS CAUSED ME TO DRIVE STRAIGHT ACROSS THE INTERSECTION INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC RATHER THAN MAKING MY PLANNED, IMMEDIATE LEFT TURN. AS THE TRUCK DROVE STRAIGHT RATHER THAN TURNING, AND AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO FORCE THE WHEEL LEFT WITH BOTH HANDS, SUDDENLY THE STEERING FUNCTION RETURNED TO NORMAL. I NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE UNEXPECTED LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE TRUCK AND CONTACTED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP. A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WAS NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK SO I DROVE THE TRUCK HOME. THE NEXT DAY (SATURDAY) A SERVICE ADVISER FROM THE FORD DEALER CALLED AND ASKED ME TO DROP THE TRUCK OFF THE FOLLOWING MONDAY AFTERNOON. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SINCE...
THE STEERING WHEEL WANDERS OR DRIFTS SLIGHTLY LEFT OR RIGHT ON ITS OWN REQUIRING EXCESSIVE DRIVER INPUT TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT CAN BE ALARMING IF YOU LOOK DOWN FOR A SECOND TO CHANGE A RADIO STATION OR CHECK A MIRROR AND LOOK BACK FORWARD AND NOTICE YOU ARE DRIFTING INTO ANOTHER LANE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED PHONE NUMBERS TO DEALERS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,300.
WAS DRIVING BACK TO MY OFFICE AND ON THE ON RAMP FROM A HIGHWAY TO INTERSTATE 95 SOUTH. I EASED LEFT TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE GOING ABOUT 45MPH AND INCREASING SPEED WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL PULLED LEFT QUICKLY ON ITS OWN POWER AND STEERED US HEAD ON TOWARDS THE METAL GUARD RAIL IN THE CENTER MEDIAN. I TRIED TO PULL RIGHT BUT THERE WAS RESISTANCE. I NOTICED AN 'UPHIL DECENT FAULT' ON MY DASH JUST BEFORE MY TRUCK STRUCK THE GUARD RAIL. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO LAST SECOND PULL THE VEHICLE RIGHT ENOUGH WHERE IT WASN'T A FULL HEAD ON COLLISION AND MY EMPLOYEE IN THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS JUST SORE AFTER THE FACT. STARTED TO PULL THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL INTERSECTION AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN. THE TRUCK COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AFTER MOVING ABOUT 5 FEET PULLING INTO THE INTERSECTION. A MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE DASH SCREEN ABOUT AUTO STARTSTOP AND THAT I NEEDED TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND RESTART IT. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. I SLOWLY ROLLED TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED. THERE WERE NO MORE ISSUES ON THE REMAINING 25 MILE DRIVE. THE AUTOSTOP FEATURE HAD BEEN DISABLED VIA THE DASH SWITCH BEFORE EVER LEAVING HOME. THE SWITCH WAS STILL ILLUMINATED AMBER SHOWING THAT AUTOSTOP HAD IN FACT BEEN TURNED OFF MANUALLY BEFORE IT HAPPENED ON ITS OWN, WHILE UNDER POWER. WITH THE ENGINE NOT RUNNING, THE POWER STEERING IS ALSO DISABLED. AFTER A BIT OF INVESTIGATION, I HAVE FOUND VIA...
FORD AUTOMATIC ENGINE OFF AT IDLE FEATURE CAUSES POWER STEERING FAILURE WHEN ACTIVE. WHEN ENGINE REACTIVATED UPON HITTING GAS THE POWER STEERING IS DELAYED. THIS IS A PROBLEM WHEN WAITING AT STOPLIGHTS FOR A TURN., ESPECIALLY A LEFT TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. REQUESTS TO FORD TO ALLOW DEACTIVATION OF THE FEATURE AS OPPOSED TO HAVING TO MANUALLY DISABLE IT EVERY TIME I ENTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IGNORED. THIS FEATURE CAN BE DANGEROUS AND THERE IS NO REASON FORD CAN'T REPROGRAM THE BYPASS. INSTEAD THEY CHOOSE TO IGNORE WHILE ALLOWING THIS DANGEROUS FEATURE TO REMAIN ACTIVE BY DEFAULT.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 10, MY TRANSMISSION ABRUPTLY DOWNSHIFTED TO 1 AT ~55 MPH!! THIS WAS THE WORST OF SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THE TRANSMISSION EITHER FAILING TO SHIFT PROPERLY OR JERKING THE VEHICLE WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. I'VE ALSO HAD THE VEHICLE STUCK IN 2ND GEAR WHILE TRYING TO ENTER THE FREEWAY. THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOW NO CONCERN AS THEY RELY ON SERVICE CODES INSTEAD OF ROAD TESTS AND CUSTOMER INPUT. I HOPE I'M ABLE TO GET ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM A MANUFACTURER I CAN TRUST. IT'S UNFORTUNATE BECAUSE I HAVE OWNED FORD F-150S FOR THE PAST 6 YEARS AND DRIVEN THEM SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. THIS NEW 10-SPEED TRANSMISSION SHOULD'VE NEVER BEEN RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC. I SEE OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE SO HOPEFULLY A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS SOON TO FOLLOW!

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO ASTROG FORD (2028 7TH ST, PARKERSBURG, WV 26101, (304) 485-8585) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT WAS "THE NATURE OF THE TRUCK AND THEY SHOULD DEAL WITH IT". THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,329.
THE KEY IN THE IGNITION ALARM WAS CONSTATNTLY SOUNDING AFTER THE TRUCK WAS SHUT OFF, AFTER THE KEY WAS REMOVED. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A SHORT IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. THIS IS A NEW 2018 TRUCK WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON WITH FORD?
MY 2018 F150 RAPTOR HAS A VAGUE STEERING FEEL AND OCCASIONALLY THE TRUCK WILL AUTO OVER CORRECT THE STEERING WHEN TRYING TO COMPENSATE FOR WIND AND WEATHER. THE ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN CHECKED MULTIPLE TIMES BY BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND INDEPENDENT SHOPS AND VERIFIED AS CORRECT. THE STEERING WHEN CENTER WILL OCCASIONALLY DRIFT TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER, ALSO HAPPENS WHEN CORNERING. IT FEELS AS THOUGH IT'S CONSTANTLY WINDY WHEN DRIVING, EVEN WHEN THERE IS CALM WEATHER. I'VE HAD THE TRUCK INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THEY HAVE CONTACTED FORD DIRECT WHO HAS REPLIED THE TRUCK IS BEHAVING NORMALLY.
WHILE DRIVING THE THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAULTED AND STEER ABILITY DIMINISHED GREATLY. THERE WAS NO WARNING. IT QUIT WORKING. I WAS TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED AND WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL.

THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES NOW FOR THE STEERING PULLING TO THE LEFT. THIS OCCUR AT CITY OR HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON ANY ROAD CONDITIONS AND HAS BEEN REPRODUCED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND HAVE TOLD ME THEY OPENED A "HOTLINE" CASE WITH FORD CORPORATE FOR ENGINEERING/TECHNICAL GUIDANCE. THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE CHECKED THE CAMPERS AND CASTERS ALONG WITH RE-PROGRAMMING THE SOFTWARE FOR THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE.

RACK AND PINION HAS BEEN REPLACED AT 2900 MILES TRUCK HAD 2 ALIGNMENTS TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED DIFFERENT TIRES WERE TRIED BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. CALLED FORD NOV. 2018 MADE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER BUT HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THEM. FORD NEEDS TO FIND A SOLUTION AND GET THE PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE SOMEBODY HAS TO DIE IN ONE.
THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES NOW FOR A SMALL GRINDING NOISE AND HARD STEERING. THE ORIGINAL THOUGHT WAS THE TRANSMISSION MODULE. AFTER A 1 MONTH BACKORDER ON THE PART, THE GRINDING NOISE WENT AWAY, BUT THE STEERING STILL FELT STIFF. IT WAS AS IF THE STEERING WHEEL WAS FIGHTING ME TO GO BACK TO CENTER. WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE TRUCK LUNGES LEFT OR RIGHT DEPENDING ON THE MOST PREVIOUS TURN I PERFORMED. THE REAR END JUTS COMING OUT OF 4TH GEAR AS IF THE TRANSMISSION HAS NO CLUE WHAT GEAR IT SHOULD BE IN AROUND 30 MPH. IT IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST WHEN THE ENGINE ON/OFF SYSTEM IS ENGAGED. COMING OUT OF A STOP, IT IS LIKE THERE IS ZERO POWER STEERING. I FEEL LIKE THIS SHOULD BE A FLUID RESPONSE (FOOT OFF BRAKE ONTO ACCELERATOR, TURN WHEEL, AND ENJOY THE RIDE). WHAT YOU FEEL INSTEAD...
MY TRUCK HAS HAD 3 ALIGNMENTS, REPLACEMENT OF STEERING GEAR, PROGRAM UPDATE ON POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE, STEERING WHEEL MOVED, AND TIRES THAT HAVE FAILED TREAD TEST, AND I HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS ON THIS NHTSA WEBSITE FOR SAME STEERING ISSUES WHICH ARE: (AND FORD ENGINEER COMFIRMED) PULLS LEFT AND PULLS RIGHT, BINDS, STEERING FIGHTS AGAINST ITSELF AND STILL AFTER ALL THE WORK AND TRIPS TO DEALERSHIP THE TRUCK IS STILL DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AND NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. CRASH STATS PROVE LEFT TURNING MOVEMENTS AT INTERSECTIONS CARRY SIGNIFICANTLY HIGH RISK. ADDITIONAL UNPREDICTABLE STEERING BEHAVIOR INCREASES ALREADY HIGH RISK. FORD ENGINEER SAID TO DO ANOTHER ALIGNMENT. FORD CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND REFUSES. THIS TRUCK IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE REPORTED THIS STEERING PROBLEM TO FORD AND NHSTA NUMEROUS TIMES. THIS TRUCK SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE ROAD. I SHOULD NOT BE EXPECTED TO PUT MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AT RISK WITH THIS TRUCK. PLEASE HELP

WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED THE STOP/START TECHNOLOGY DISABLES THE ABILITY TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN IT'S TIME TO ACCELERATE AND TURN QUICKLY THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT BECOME AVAILABLE FOR FOR SOME TIME. I HAVE BEEN CLOSE TO CRASHING SEVERAL TIMES AND HIT A CURB ON ONE OCCASION AS A RESULT OF NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER. THE DEALER TOLD ME AT THE LAST VISIT THIS IS NORMAL BECAUSE OF THE STOP START TECHNOLOGY AND I JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE POWER STEERING TO BECOME AVAILABLE WHEN THE ENGINE STARTS. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE WHEN MAKING A TURN INTO TRAFFIC SINCE SOMETIMES THIS NEEDS TO BE A SIMULTANEOUS ACTION OF ACCELERATING AND TURNING AT THE SAME TIME.
THE STEERING CONSTANTLY PULLS TO THE LEFT AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT. THE STEERING HAS IMPULSES THAT ARE FELT IN THE STEERING DURING NORMAL DRIVING. THE STEERING WHEEL OSCILLATES AND ATTEMPTS TO MAKE STEERING CORRECTIONS AT ANY SPEED. THE STEERING WHEEL WILL REMAIN TURNED IN ONE DIRECTION. FOR EXAMPLE, DRIVING THROUGH A CURVE GOING LEFT, HANDS CAN BE REMOVED FROM STEERING WHEEL AND STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK ITSELF IN POSITION AND STAY TURNING LEFT. THE DYSFUNCTIONAL STEERING DROVE ME OFF OF A 2 LANE ROAD AT 55MPH. THE POOR STEERING OF THIS VEHICLE CREATES AN UNSAFE AND NOT ROAD WORTHY VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION CAN NOT DECIDE WHICH GEAR TO BE IN CREATING PAUSES OF POWER DISTRIBUTION TO THE REAR WHEELS. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD AND PULLS THE VEHICLE BACK AND FORTH CREATING LOUD CLUNKING NOISES AND RATTLING THE PASSENGERS. THE POOR OPERATION OF THE TRANSMISSION CREATES UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17,459. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THIS TRUCK COMES STANDARD WITH AUTO START STOP TECHNOLOGY. WHEN THE AUTO STOP TURNS OFF THE ENGINE IT ALSO TURNS OFF THE POWER STEERING. WHEN YOU LET OFF THE BRAKE THE ENGINE STARTS AND THE POWER STEERING SHOULD START WORKING IMMEDIATELY. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE POWER STEERING HAS NOT COME BACK TO FULL ASSIST. IT TOOK 3-5 SECONDS TO START FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IN MY CASE EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED I WAS STOPPED AND MAKING A LEFT ACROSS TRAFFIC. WHEN I ACCELERATED I DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING TO MAKE THE TURN. I TOOK ALL MY STRENGTH TO MAKE THE TURN WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I AM NOW ABLE TO RECREATE THIS PROBLEM ON A CONSISTENT BASIS NOW. IF I APPLY PRESSURE TO THE WHEEL WHILE THE ENGINE IS OFF AND LET THE ENGINE START IT DOES NOT HAVE FULL POWER STEERING. I PURCHASED A USED 2018 F-150 WITH APPROXIMATELY 16,000 MILES ON 10/17/2018. WHEN IN MOTION, STEERING INTERMITTENTLY WANDERS, OFTEN DRIFTS OR PULLS LEFT AND RIGHT, AND REQUIRES A MORE THAN REASONABLE EFFORT TO KEEP IN LANE. ON FIRST TRIP TO THE DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM (WEST HERR FORD IN HAMBURG, NY), WAS TOLD THAT ALIGNMENT WAS GOOD, AND MAYBE TIRES WERE BAD - THEY SWITCHED THE 2 FRONT TIRES, AND PROBLEM PERSISTED. WENT BACK TO WEST HERR FORD LESS THAN 3,000 MILES LATER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AND WAS TOLD ALIGNMENT WAS BARELY IN SPEC. THEY ALIGNED, AND CLAIMED TO HAVE ADDRESSED THE ISSUE. THE STEERING STILL INTERMITTENTLY PULLS, WANDERS, AND DANGEROUSLY FAILS TO TRAVEL STRAIGHT WITHOUT CONSTANT CORRECTION.
VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH AUTO STOP START FEATURE. WHEN ENGINE SHUTS OFF THE ELECTRICALLY OPERATED POWER STEERING ALSO SHUTS OFF. RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL RESTARTS ENGINE BUT POWER STEERING DOES NOT RETURN FOR APPROXIMATELY 1-2 SECONDS. I'VE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW. I CURRENTLY HAVE A LITTLE OVER 700 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THREE TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE I HAVE BEEN MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A BUSY HIGHWAY ONTO A SECONDARY ROAD AND THE STOP START FEATURE HAS ENGAGED. I MAKE THE DECISION TO TURN AND GO BUT THE TRUCK HAS NO POWER STEERING AND I AM MOVING FORWARD. THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER WITHOUT POWER STEERING.THERE IS A BUTTON ON THE DASH TO DISABLE THE SYSTEM BUT THE DEFAULT IS TO TURN THE SYSTEM ON EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. I BOUGHT THIS 2018 F150 LARIAT NEW, ON TEST DRIVE I NOTICED VEHICLE DID A LOT OF WEAVING TO THE POINT I ASKED SALESMAN TO DRIVE IT BACK AND VERIFY IF STEERED LIKE HIS 2017 WHICH HE DID. THIS VEHICLE DRIFTS ALL OVER THE ROAD AND FEELS LIKE IT IS GETTING OVER RUN WITH ELECTRICAL IMPULSES IN THE STEERING CAUSING IT TO DRIFT LEFT AND RIGHT CONSTANTLY AND AT IT'S WILL, IF YOU LOOK DOWN TO ADJUST THE HEATER CONTROLS IT WILL BE ACROSS THE CENTERLINE OR OFF THE SHOULDER IMMEDIATELY, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT HIS FROM OWNERS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE MESSAGE "SERVICE POWER STEERING, HILL START ASSIST" APPEARED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO FORD OF MANSFIELD (1515 W 4TH STREET, MANSFIELD, OH 44902) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT RODENTS CHEWED THROUGH THE ELECTRICAL WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE 2018 F-150 TRUCK WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW AND AFTER APPROXIMATELY 800 MILES THE TRUCK'S STEERING STARTED TO PULL TO THE LEFT AND THEN TO THE RIGHT. THE DIRECTION OF STEERING PULL SEEMS TO SWITCH DEPENDING ON THE LAST TURN MADE OR THE DIRECTION OF THE TRUCKS BODY ROLL, BUT ALSO CHANGES DIRECTION RANDOMLY. THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDS CONSTANT INPUT FROM THE DRIVER IN ORDER TO DRIVE STRAIGHT OR ELSE THE TRUCK WILL BE IN THE OTHER LANE OR OFF THE ROAD. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 65 MPH AND ALSO ON LOCAL ROADS AT SPEEDS OF 25 MPH. THE ROAD COULD BE STRAIGHT OR CURVED AND THE STEERING WILL CONSTANTLY PULL THE VEHICLE LEFT OR RIGHT AND SEEMS TO PERIODICALLY SWITCH DIRECTIONS. FORD MOTOR CO.
