IN ALL 04-10 F150 TRUCKS WITH THE 5.4, LACK OF OIL PRESSURE CAN AND WILL CAUSE CAM PHASER FAILURE RESULTING IN THE MOTOR LOCKING UP OR EVEN SHUTTING OFF DAMAGING THE TIMING CHAIN GUIDES AND TENSIONERS. THIS CAN BECOME EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS ALL 04-10 5.4 MOTORS EXPERIENCE OIL PRESSURE PROBLEMS TO THE TOP END AND ALL EXHIBIT A KNOCKING SOUND. I'M SURE I'M NOT THE FIRST TO COMPLAIN AS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD ISSUES AND ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT. PLEASE INSTIGATE AND READ THE COUNTLESS ARTICLES OF THESE SITUATIONS. FORD IS CAUSING PEOPLE TO PAY UP TO 8 THOUSAND DOLLARS TO REPAIR THIS. IT IS A RIP OFF SCENE BY FORD AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE. *TR
I HAVE A PROBLEM IT POPS UP SAYING TRANSMISSION FAULT AND I WANT TO FIX IT SO HELP ME PLEASE!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY WITHOUT WARNING AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD TO BE APPLIED IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VALVE FRACTURED IN THE NUMBER ONE CYLINDER AND DESTROYED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
FORD F150'S HAVE A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE SPARK PLUG BEING BLOWN OUT OF THE HEAD. THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD US THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL ISSUED. WE HAVE CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND KNOW OF MANY OTHER FORD OWNERS THAT HAVE COMPLAINED. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED 4 TIMES TO US ALONE! WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN UNTIL FORD CHANGES THE HEAD SO THIS CAN'T HAPPEN. THE PROBLEM WE NOW ARE RUNNING INTO IS THAT WE ARE HAVING TO REPLACE PLUGS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED, THEREFORE THE HEAD HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE ONES THAT FORD IS PUTTING IN THEM! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. INTERMITTENTLY, THE ENGINE RPM'S INCREASED AND A LOUD NOISE WAS PRESENT. THE FAILURES OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VARIOUS INDEPENDENT MECHANICS. ONE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE WIRING HARNESSES AND CAM PHASERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE INTAKE AND THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A STRANGE NOISE. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE TRUCK HAVE ONLY 55K MILES WHICH THE ENGINE SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS BUT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WHICH SHOULD BE A RECALL. IT'S KNOWN FOR THE CAMSHAFT PHASERS TO START MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE AND MAKE THE VEHICLE SOUND LIKE A DIESEL TRUCK. I DON'T THINK IT'S RIGHT THAT WE PAY TONS OF MONEY FOR A VEHICLE AND WE HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS THAT COST US CUSTOMERS MORE MONEY. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO REVIEW THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS OUT THERE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND CANT AFFORD TO HAVE IT FIXED. AS I TURNED RIGHT INTO A SIDE STREET ENGINE STALLED. I HAD VERY LITTLE CONTROL OF VEHICLE BUT MANAGED TO STEER IT ONTO LEFT SIDE OF STREET. LUCKY NO CARS COMING. ALSO HAPPENED ON 4 AUG. CHECKED INTERNET AND POSSIBLE CORRODED FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE. MANY COMPLAINTS. COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR
ENGINE KNOCKING - OIL PRESSURE DROPPING - TIMING CHANGE BAD. *JS
WE ALWAYS TAKE OUR TRUCK TO THE FORD DEALER FOR SERVICE.I HAD BEEN TELLING THE SERVICE ADVISOR FOR YEARS THAT WE HEARD AN AIR BUBBLE NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING. THEY KEPT SAYING EVERYTHING IS FINE. AS SOON AS OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS OVER, THEY THEN SAID I HAD AN EXHAUST LEAK. I TOOK IT TO A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC AND IMMEDIATELY THEY WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE IT WAS BOTH EXHAUST MANIFOLDS AND IS VERY COMMON IN F150'S. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE BOLTS BREAKING WHEN TRYING TO GET OUT, AND DUE TO FORD'S POOR DESIGN MORE THAN LIKELY WILL WARP AGAIN. THIS REPAIR COST IS OVER $1000 (FORD DEALER QUOTED $2165) AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY IF DEALER WOULD HAVE ADMITTED IT HAD LEAK WHEN WE MENTIONED THE SOUND BEFORE. THE 3RD PARTY MECHANIC SAID ANY MECHANIC SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE DISTINCT SOUND JUST...
WE ALWAYS TAKE OUR TRUCK TO THE FORD DEALER FOR SERVICE. RECENTLY THEY GOT NEW MANAGEMENT AND THEY SAID OH BY THE WAY SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU EVEN THOUGH THE SPARK PLUGS ARE 100,000 MILES YOU SHOULD HAVE HAD THEM CHANGED ALREADY BECAUSE THEY GET STUCK. SO I WENT TO THE INTERNET AND READ THE NIGHTMARES ABOUT MY 5.4 ENGINE SPARK PLUGS. TOOK IT TO A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC AND ALL 8 GOT STUCK AND WERE NOT EASY TO REMOVE USING FORD'S SPECIAL TOOL THEY DEVELOPED BECAUSE THEY KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM. I APPARENTLY MADE PUT A LOT BETTER THAN MOST, MY BILL WAS ONLY A WHOPPING $700 FOR HAVING SPARK PLUGS CHANGED WITHIN 100,000 MILES THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD FOR. MECHANICS ARE RECOMMENDING GETTING THEM CHANGED AT LEAST EVERY 50,000 MILES NOW AND SOME WON'T EVEN TOUCH THE FORD 5.4 ENGINES. MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD...
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPONTANEOUSLY HESITATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDEPENDENTLY PERFORMED A TUNE UP ON HIS VEHICLE AND WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO SERVICE THE SPARK PLUGS HE WAS UNABLE TO REACH THEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
ON 05/16/2014 THE NUMBER 3 SPARK PLUG BLEW-OUT OF THE HEAD CAUSING FUEL TO BE SPRAYED INTO THE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHILE I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY FAMILY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THIS TRUNK. THE FIRST IS LISTED ON THE APPROXIMATE INCIDENT DATE OF THIS REPORT. SPARK PLUG BLOW-OUT SEEMS TO BE A CONSISTANT PROBLEM WITH THE FORD TRUCK ENGINES AND COULD POSE A PROBLEM OF A ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE, BREAK DOWNS ON BUSY INTERSTATES & HIGHWAYS, WRECKS AND FATALITIES FROM SUDDEN SLOW DOWNS BECAUSE OF ENGINE POWER LOSS WHILE TRAVELING OR BEING STRANDED ON ISOLATED ROADS. THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE POSSIBILITIES THAT MAY HAPPEN (OR HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS). FORD MOTOR MOTOR KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM BUT WON'T LISTEN TO THEIR CONSUMERS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BURNED AND WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AFTER BEING PARKED FOR SEVEN HOURS. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 47,000.

POWER LOSS AND SURGE IN FLOW OF TRAFFIC AT 65MPH. SUDDEN STOP AND LOSS OF POWER IN TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC HAD TO COME TO HALT AROUND ME. I HAD TO STOP VEHICLE AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART SEVERAL TIMES TO RESTART. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL OF FORD AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. FORD HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE SPARK PLUGS. THIS IS THE SECOND "TUNE-UP I HAVE HAD ON THIS TRUCK. BOTH TIMES, PLUGS HAVE BROKEN IN THE ENGINE. IT IS NOT MY DESIGN, IT IS FORDS, SO WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY 891.99 IN LABOR TO HAVE PLUGS REMOVED. *TR
BOUGHT 2004 F150 BRAND NEW, NEVER OFF ROAD, ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE COMPLETED: SON DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT 65MPH, HEARD LOUD BREAKING NOISE, SEVERE RATTLING, SHAKING, NO POWER, COASTED DOWN RAMP AND TO SIDE ROAD. TOWED TO MECHANIC--ROD THROUGH THE OIL PAN. MECHANIC VERIFIED THAT OIL WAS PUMPED PROPERLY THROUGH MOTOR.. SAME MECHANIC HAS WORKED ON THIS CAR SINCE WE HAVE HAD IT. WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE ALL 4 DOOR WINDOW MOTORS REPLACED (TWICE-SECOND TIME, WE FIXED FRONT DOOR WINDOWS AND HAD BACK DOOR WINDOWS WIRED UP) , THE BACK GLASS REPLACED FOR LEAKING, THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SENSORS REPLACED, THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT, THE OVERHEAD CAM SYSTEM REPLACED AND NOW THIS. *TR

AS I WAS BACKING UPWARD INTO MY GARAGE, I SLOWED DOWN AND THE TRUCK ROLLED FORWARD AND I QUICKLY PRESSED THE GAS TO RESUME BACKWARDS. THIS CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON ALONG WITH MY OD/OFF INDICATORS ON THE DASHBOARD. MY REVERSE GEAR STOPPED PULLING. I'M AFRAID HAD THIS BEEN IN ROUTE IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MORE SERIOUS OF AN ISSUE. *TR
GOT INTO VEHICLE, STARTED, AND IMMEDIATELY LOUD POPPING SOUNDS CAME FROM UNDER THE ENGINE, AND WORSE WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE. LUCKILY HAD 2 HOBBY MECHANICS, THAT I WORK WITH, COME TAKE A LOOK. THEY IMMEDIATELY DETERMINED THAT ONE OF MY SPARK PLUGS HAD BACKED-OUT. THEY TOOK THE COVER OFF AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE 1ST SPARK PLUG, AND LUCKILY THE THREADS WERE IN GOOD SHAPE. PUT SPARK PLUG BACK IN, AND VEHICLE STARTED FINE AFTER THAT. I TRAVEL 45 MILES ONE WAY TO/FROM WORK. IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN, COULD LEAVE ME STRANDED. 2ND LUCK, NO REPAIR COST. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THE DEALER WOULD HAVE CHARGED. IN ADDITION, 2 WEEKS LATER, I HAD THE 3RD (2 PREVIOUS WERE IN FRONT RIGHT & REAR DRIVER WINDOW) OUT OF 4 DOOR WINDOWS FALL INTO THE DOOR. THIS TIME IT WAS THE DRIVER'S FRONT DOOR - REGULATOR ASSEMBLY. LOUD BANG BEFORE THEY...

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE THE CONTACT WAS DESCRIBING WAS NOT AUDIBLE TO THE TECHNICIANS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A CASE WAS FILED (CLAIM NUMBER: CAS2248284-V1Y9N4). THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,366 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
AS VEHICLE WARMS UP AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL MILES COMING TO A STOP. THE ENGINE BEGINS TO KNOCK ATTEMPTING TO STALL OUT. WHEN GIVING THE VEHICLE GAS IT KICKS ALMOST CAUSING SEVERAL AUTO ACCIDENTS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO SEVERAL MECHANICS REPLACING THE CAM PHASERS DUE TO A CODE. THE ISSUE IS STILL HAPPENING AND THE CODE STILL SAYS REPLACE CAM PHASER. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM WHICH CAN'T BE FIXED. AS FAR AS THE KNOCKING SOUND THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME ITS A FORD TRITON THAT'S THE KNOCKING SOUND IM HEARING. BUT FROM MECHANICS THE SOUND IS FROM AIR ESCAPING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. FORD REFUSES TO ACCEPT THE DEFECT FIXING ISSUES SINCE BUYING THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2004. *TR
BETWEEN APPROXIMATELY 150000 AND 160000 MILES ON MY FORD F150 THERE HAVE BEEN THREE INCIDIENTS OF SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT STARTING WITH THE 3RD, THE 1ST, THEN THE 2ND CYLINDER ON THE RIGHT SIDE/PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY DOING 65 WHEN MY TRUCK LOST POWER... I BARLEY COASTED OUR OF TRAFFIC AND PULLED OVER. I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG, OIL WAS NOT LOW AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEMED FINE. HAD TO TOW IT TO A MECHANIC TO FIND OUT THE ENGINE IS LOCKED UP. APPARENTLY THE CAM PHASERS IN THIS ENGINE ARE JUNK AND GO OUT VERY FREQUENTLY CAUSING MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEMS. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED! THESE ENGINE ARE VERY EXPENSIVE TO REBUILD OR REPLACE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A LOUD RATTLING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE DEFECT AND EACH TIME, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW GLASS BECAME DETACHED FROM THE FRAME AND THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW SWITCH BECAME INOPERABLE. ALSO, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CIRCUIT BOARD WAS FAULTY AND WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE SPARK PLUGS ON THE 5.4L 3 VALVE TRITON V8 ARE HIGHLY COMMON TO BREAK WHILE TRYING TO BACK THEM OUT AND REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS. FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT IS IT COSTING CUSTOMERS OVER $1,000.00 JUST TO CHANGE SPARK PLUGS BECAUSE IF THEY BREAK OFF, THE HEAD HAS TO COME OFF SOME TIMES TO EXTRACT THE REMAINDER OF THE BROKEN PLUG. FORD HAS REFUSED TO FIX THEIR SCREW UP AND HAS STATED THAT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE NHTSA MANDATES THAT THEY FIX THE PROBLEM. I SPOKE WITH A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND HE STATED THAT AT A BARE MINIMUM FOR A SPARK PLUG CHANGE ON MY TRUCK IS $700.00 DUE TO THE ISSUE AND THAT MOST SHOPS WONT EVEN TOUCH THEM. FORD NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR DESIGN FLAW AND SAVE THEIR CUSTOMERS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIR BILLS FOR...
I EXPERIENCE A BLOWN SPARK PLUG AT A COST OF $798.00 TO REPAIR. IT SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING VERY POPULAR WITH THE LARGER ENGINES. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. NO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WILL DO THE WORK, THEY SEND THEM ALL TO THE DEALERSHIPS, WHERE AS WE KNOW THE PRICE INFLATES. FROM ALL THE MECHANICS I HAVE SPOKEN WITH, THE GENERAL CONSENSUS IS THAT IT IS A DESIGN FLAW. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED SINCE THE FAILURE WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND SUGGESTED THAT THE FAILURE MIGHT BE A DIRECT RESULT OF A DEFECTIVE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO FILED A REPORT AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
