WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS BLEW OUT OF THE ALUMINUM HEAD ON TOP OF THE MOTOR. THIS VEHICLE MALFUNCTION DESTROYED A COIL PACK, SPARK PLUG AND WIRING.
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS MY TRUCK HAS BLOWN 3 SEPARATE SPARK PLUGS FROM 3 DIFFERENT PORTS IN THE HEAD. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE MOTORS DOING THIS, AND FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, HE HEARD A LOUD BANG FROM THE ENGINE AND STARTED TO SMELL AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR. THE VEHICLE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. DRIVING TO WORK AND HAD TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT A FEW BLOCKS FROM WORK. WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN I ACCELERATED TO GO AND THE CAR SOUND LIKE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS BLEW OFF. PARKED CAR AND HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. WAS NOTIFIED BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE CYLINDER. TECHNICIAN REPAIRED BY USING AN INSERT. SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT AND STRIPPED THREADS IN HEAD. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME A SPARK PLUG HAS BLOWN OUT OF THE HEAD. REPAIRED ONCE ABOUT A YEAR AGO. *TR
A NEIGHBOR CALLED 911 TO REPORT MY VEHICLE ON FIRE, PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WHILE I WAS AT WORK. THE ENGINE WAS NOT ON AND THERE WERE NO KEYS IN THE IGNITION. THE LAST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WAS 2/14/2012. A NEIGHBOR WAS ABLE TO SPRAY WATER ON THE FIRE, AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO GET THE FIRE OUT AND PREVENT THE FIRE'S SPREAD TO THE CAB, OR TO MY HOUSE. THERE IS QUITE A BIT OF FIRE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPONENTS OF THE ENGINE MELTED ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE ENGINE, ABOVE THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE COASTED OFF THE ROAD AND WAS TOWED TO A DEALER. AFTER DIAGNOSIS, THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN THROUGH THE ALUMINUM HEAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE STEEL RING BEING PLACED WHERE THE PLUGS WERE STRIPPED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000. PULLED OVER OUT OF TRAFFIC AND CHECK UNDER THE HOOD AND FOUND THAT THE RIGHT REAR SPARK PLUG EJECTED OUT OF HEAD. I WAS TRAVELING 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN A SPARKPLUG WAS EJECTED FROM THE ENGINE, BREAKING THE COIL ATTACHMENT FROM THE ENGINE. I FOUND BOTH THE SPARK PLUG AND THE COIL LYING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE. *TR

A POLICE REPORT OF THE INCIDENT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE MASSIVE FLAMES, WHICH EXTENDED 50 FEET INTO THE AIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE FACILITY FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

IT WAS TOLD TO ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT TOUCH THE VEHICLE AS I SHOULD CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY. THEY CLAIM THE PLUGS EXPLODE. WE THEN CALLED THE FORD DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN SAYVILLE THE WOMAN STATED AT SAYVILLE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE PLUGS WOULD COST TO REPLACE $ 383.00 UNLESS THE PLUGS EXPLODE INSIDE THE ENGINE WHEN REMOVED THEN IT WOULD COST 1/2 HOUR MORE PER PLUG AS THEY ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE PLUGS EXPLODING IT COULD RUN UP TO A TOTAL COST OF$ 800.00 MAX TO REMOVE. SOMETHING ABOUT NEW SLEEVE HAS TO BE REPLACED WHEN IT EXPLODES. I WAS REALLY IRATE WE ARE ONLY TALKING ABOUT PLUGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ALSO ACKNOWLEDGED THIS WAS A KNOWN FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 65,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I AM ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE ORIGINAL FACTORY SPARK PLUG EJECT FROM THE ENGINE, WHICH INDICATES THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE ENGINE & CYLINDER HEAD DESIGN. WHERE I WORK, FOUR OF US HAVE THE SAME YEAR TRUCK, THREE OF US HAD THE SAME SPARK PLUG EJECT PROBLEM! THE FOURTH GUY ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES ON HIS TRUCK, SO WERE ALL WAITING FOR IT TO HAPPEN TO HIM! FORD F150 2002 WAS HAVING WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A WHEEL BALANCE ISSUE. DAY BEFORE SOUNDED LIKE LIFTERS WE NEEDING ADJUSTMENT (TAPPING) THAT SEEMED TO GET BETTER AS IT DROVE. WAS TURNING ONTO A HIGHWAY TYPE ROAD, ENGINE MADE A BANG THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT THREW A ROD, FOLLOWED BY LOUD POPS. THERE WAS NO SMOKE OR OIL. IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CUT THE ENGINE. HAD TO TOW TRUCK TO DEALER ($90). FORD DEALER IDENTIFIED BLOWN SPARK PLUG #3, AND USED A KIT TO INSTALL HELICOIL TO ALLOW REPLACEMENT SPARK PLUG. THEY SAID INDUCTION CLEANING WAS ALSO NECESSARY DUE TO THE NON-FIRING CYL, PLUS ALL NEW PLUGS. REPAIR COST $950. LOST USE OF TRUCK FOR TWO DAYS, AND THEN FOUND OUT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITHOUT A RECALL; AND IT COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME ON OTHER SPARK PLUGS. SPARK PLUGS ORIGINAL TO VEHICLE AND NORMAL MAINTENANCE WAS CONDUCTED...
I OWN A 2002 FORD F150 WITH A 5.4 TRITON ENGINE. I JUST HAD AN ISSUE WITH A SPARK PLUG COMING OUT OF THE HEAD. I HAVE READ MANY REPORTS OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH NEW FACTORY PLUGS AND REPLACEMENT PLUGS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW THAT FORD HAS YET TO ADMIT IS A DESIGN FLAW. I TRIED TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG, BUT COULD NOT GET IT STARTED IN TO THE THREADS ON THE HEAD. I FOUND OUT THAT O'REILY'S SELLS A CYLINDER HEAD REPAIR KIT # 42025 SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS PROBLEM, IT HAD A INSERT THAT YOU SCREWED INTO THE HEAD AND IT WAS THREADED ON THE...

AFTER IT SPENT 3 DAYS IN THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, IT THEN BLEW THE #2 PLUG THE VERY SAME NIGHT I PICKED IT UP ON 4/7. I OWN A 2002 F-150 4X4 IT HAS 79K MILES AND HAD THE ORIGINAL FORD PLUGS IN IT. I WAS STRANDED A LONG DISTANCE FROM HOME WHEN THE TRUCK SPIT A SPARK PLUG OUT DESTROYING THE COIL. SMOKE AND FUEL CAME OUT FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND NOT KNOWING WHAT WENT WRONG I THOUGHT THE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID YES THAT'S A BUMMER. THEY FIXED IT WITH AN INSERT AND SAID THERE IS NO GUARANTEE IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN TO THAT CYLINDER OR THE OTHER ONES!! NOT FEELING COMFORTABLE LEAVING TOWN IN MY TRUCK NOW, I FIND OUT THIS SPARK PLUG ISSUE IS SO COMMON THAT THERE ARE SHOPS IN MY LITTLE AREA THAT FIX ONE TO TWO OF THESE PROBLEMS A WEEK! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE NUMBER 7 AND 8 SPARK PLUGS HAVE BLOWN OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS MISFIRED BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH THREAD TO HOLD THE SPARK PLUGS IN PLACE. SPARK PLUG NUMBER 8 AND REPLACED AND NUMBER 7 WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,227.

I GOT IN THE TRUCK AND STARTED IT, THERE WAS A FUNNY NOISE AND A LOUD BANG. I SHUT OFF THE TRUCK AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE WINDSHIELD. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND DECIDED IT NEEDED TO GO INTO THE SHOP. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE BLOCK OF THE TRUCK, THEY TRIED TO PUT IT BACK IN BUT THE HEAD HAD BEEN STRIPPED AND THE COIL WAS CRACKED.
