2021 ford f150 PowerBoost hybrid. There is a LOT of internet chatter and forum chatter about KNOWN issues with the following, and it recently almost led to a major and likely serious injury accident. Specific Parameters: Low speed (~5 mph) slow roll Under internal combustion power, not battery In 2nd gear only When gas pedal is pressed vehicle does nothing. Does not respond. Two choices are to hammer the gas, or hit the breaks. Does two things, slams forward eventually after 3-4 second delay if gas pedal depressed OR shifts down or into electric mode (internal combustion off) and then will once again go from first to third in normal acceleration progression and pace They must have an issue with the standard 1-3 skip programming with ICE power and 2nd gear being a hang-up I almost got T boned by a semi truck due to this with family in car....
Failure to repair safety recall in timely manner. Manufacturer Recall Number23S65 NHTSA Recall Number23V896
I purchased my truck in March of 2024 with an undisclosed problem from a dealership in Texas. I contacted them two weeks after it began and they said they couldn't do anything as is the greatest business disappointment of American commerce when used vehicles are purchased under the "As Is" clause. The undisclosed problem is this, my truck loses acceleration power for up to 20 seconds in dangerous situations when I attempt to increase speed from a stop or slower speeds and the truck doesn't shift to accelerate to reasonable speeds. This situation happens each time I drive this truck. The scarier situations happen when changing lanes, turning left, or right, or making U-turns. Each of these conditions threatens safety every time this happens, but more so when there is fast-moving traffic coming behind after changing lanes or if on-coming traffic approaches my now power-less truck when making a left/u-turn....
Many times I have experienced a delay in acceleration or where it fails to accelerate relative to the pedal position and will then suddenly aggressively accelerate. This has resulted in me almost being hit in traffic due to the lack of power output leaving me panicked as vehicles barrel down on me while I’m stuck waiting for the truck to get the signal to accelerate. The issue has begun to occur more often but is spontaneous when it occurs leaving me with huge trust issues with the vehicle not knowing when it will decide if it wants to output power or not. It occurs most often after the vehicle has been sitting unused, like first thing in the morning or after work when it has been sitting for hours, and most often when executing a turn from either a slow roll or a stop. Meaning if I’m on a side...
10 speed transmission has started shifting hard at times and is random when it occurs. At times the hard shift comes with some stuttering under normal acceleration.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the transmission independently shifted to neutral, and the vehicle decelerated. In addition, the power train failure warning light illuminated. The contact stated that within several seconds, the vehicle returned to normal speed, and the power train failure warning light was no longer illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred while driving on a major highway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with an external transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced, and the software needed an update. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of an unknown recall however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure....
Multitude of transmission problems, Have smelt clutches in the transmission burning very strongly twice now. Hard shifting up shifting and downshifting. Slamming into gear almost locking up the back wheels. Has failed to move with transmission binding up putting it in reverse. Multiple slippages and different gears. After the truck is stopped at a light for 10 to 30 seconds there will be a hard clacking sound and the transmission that can be felt in the floor. Extreme hesitation almost causing an accident pulling out into traffic. Check engine light one time for faulty Park solenoid and the vehicle would not come out of park. Disconnected and reconnected the batteries. Cleared the code and finally got it to come out of park. The code cleared after 3 days. Was working with the dealership over the phone remotely at the time with it. They said it disappeared and they didn't know...
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V896000 (POWER TRAIN); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
When turning right there was a complete loss of power with no response from the throttle it was just stuck coasting at 20klm hr. For 20 seconds or so then throttle kicked in and normal operation again. This has happened twice now in the past week. Very dangerous especially when turning into traffic.
Despite having been told my truck was fixed at a dealer shop, my truck still displays an absence of forward propulsion when applying the gas pedal and trying to accelerate from slower speeds. This has happened when trying to make a left or right turn when there is oncoming traffic. Sometimes this happens while trying to accelerate on the on-ramp of a highway to get up to normal piste speed limits with traffic very fast behind me. The dealer I took it to said they fixed the issues. Luckily I can apply the Manual mode with a button, but this is distracting when trying to look for the button, and the issue comes back in Automatic mode.
The vehicle fails to acclerate. When pulling out into a street the vehicles accelerator became completely unresponsive. The vehicle was stuck in 2nd gear going about 8mph and the vehicle would not accelerate, I even push the pedal all the way to the floor for several seconds with no response. I had to come to a complete stop in the middle of the street for the truck become responsive to my inputs. I was nearly rear-ended due to this issue.
Vehicle regularly loses all throttle response for 5-10 seconds, usually around corners at low speed, but sometimes while driving straight. This lack of response is alarming when pulling into traffic. There is no light on the dash indicating traction control is activated.
Leaving a parking lot and after turning right, the truck failed to accelerate for over 800 feet. Over this distance, the accelerator was pressed all the way to the floor and the truck stayed stuck in 2nd gear, slowly increasing from 2,000 rpm to 2,500 rpm, and from 17mph to 21mph. After this time, the accelerator pedal was pumped, and the truck responded with normal acceleration. This is not the first time this truck has had the issue, but it is sporadic, and almost always when turning right from a rolling stop. This has a high potential of causing accidents when trying to turn on to a road with higher speed traffic and unable to accelerate as expected. There were no warning lamps or messages indicating an issue with the vehicle. The issue is not consistently reproducible for Ford to inspect it, but it does happen a few times a...
I just want to provide support for others that have this safety issue, as my 2021 F150 Powerboost also has this issue. When making a turn, usually a righthand turn, onto a busy road, the vehicle will fail to accelerate. The delay is not turbo lag, but more so a dead space or lag of any response from the power train. I have found that if I disable the advance trac and traction control, the issue is no longer present. Just wanted to reinforce the confidence at the start and how dangerous it is. You get this false sense of security that the truck is going to accelerate a certain way, then falls flat at a very risky time. FYI, I am running the latest PCM code and modules updates available from Ford, via FDRS. Here are other examples if it helps: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF...
When accelerating from a low speed, accelerator does not respond.
After a few hours of parking in a lot, or overnight from my garage I lose accelerator response when trying to accelerate. I will lightly use the throttle to pull out of a stop, turning right, and the truck will not accelerate for up to 12 seconds even with steady throttle input or pumping the throttle. If I press the accelerator to the floor it will shorten the delay time, but will surge at full throttle. Twice I have pulled into traffic, but truck will not accelerate and I am almost rear ended or cannot cross an intersection with traffic come at me. This is a serious safety issue. Dealer has not been able to replicate or repair. This has been happening for 6+ months.
After a right turn in a residential street, I pressed the accelerator to progress on the roadway. The truck did not accelerate, so I looked at the tachometer and observed it above 0 and below 1,000 rpm. The engine was running, but unresponsive despite pumping the accelerator. While rolling at 5 mph I shifted the transmission to neutral and continued pumping the accelerator. There was no response for the next 200'. Finally, the engine became responsive and ran normally. It runs normally now. I cannot reproduce this issue. I called the Ford dealer service on 8 November 24 at Noon and they said "watch for the issue". I expressed that in traffic, a suddenly undependable engine is a serious concern. The accelerator/engine was unresponsive for a continued period of time. The gas engine was in control. There was no check light/warning light. The Ford dealer inspected the telemetry of the...
When gearshift lever is in "DRIVE," it would not shift into "REVERSE" or "PARK." There were no warning lights. Gearshift lever would always move from "PARK" to "DRIVE" or "PARK" to "REVERSE." I was in traffic, I was unable to move the gearshift from "DRIVE" to "REVERSE" when I needed to backup. The only way to get the gearshift lever to move was to TURN OFF the vehicle while it was in "DRIVE" and on a 2021 F150, the gearshift lever will automatically move into "PARK." Then I was able to restart the vehicle and move the gearshift lever into "REVERSE." From "REVERSE" the gearshift lever would move into the "DRIVE" position. This failure resulted in my inability to control my vehicle when required. The dealership replaced a GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY to resolve the problem.
1) Vehicle acceleration delays. From a stopped vehicle condition transitioning onto highway roadway the vehicle failed to accelerate for several seconds. Again from stopped or low speed idling condition following a turn there occurs a 1 to 10 second failure to accelerate. 2) Failure to accelerate puts into question the safety of anyone in any vehicle within proximity to the malfunctioning vehicle. 3) Our personal vehicle problems has not been observed by any dealer, we have not presented it for diagnosis at this time. We are actively monitoring and posting to the [XXX] group about our experience. A ford dealership employee has an advanced Ford factory representative working on understanding the problem. Otherwise, it seems, no one currently understands the issue as yet. 4) Our personal vehicle has NOT been inspected by the Manufacturer, police, insurance reps or others at this point in time. 5) There has never been a...
When attempting to accelerate the vehicle hesitates for several seconds as the automatic 10 speed transmission attempts to engage the proper gear. This is intermittent. It has happened numerous times and is particularly dangerous when attempting to merge onto a highway or turning in either direction at an intersection.
The truck is a 10-speed and the 10 gears are displayed on the dash. While driving down the road, the gears start to disappear. Once it gets to the gear you are in, it will force a hard downshift. It will continue to force a downshift into first gear and the truck stops with hard engine breaking. The first time (6/26/2024), I was almost rear ended. If you put the truck into neutral, all gears reappear and you can start to drive again without any indication of transmission issues until the gears start to disappear. Ford dealership has attempted to fix multiple times, but continues to happen. If not expecting, is very sudden and can cause rear-end collision or loss of control. I have a detailed record of the incidents (date, speed, mileage, etc.) as well as multiple videos demonstrating the issue. Not able to upload videos.
Check engine light on . Ford says exhaust heat exchanger bypass valve. I see online multiple people are having the same issue . Seems to be a common issue with this vehicle . They are saying it’s not a part of the power train warranty although it’s attached to the power train . This is a safety issue. With the amount of posts about this issue I’m surprised it isn’t a recall already.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V896000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
While operating the vehicle, I shifted into park, using the console shifter. With no warning, the vehicle malfunctioned. The console shifter indicator light started blinking next to the "P" and it would not let me shift back into gear. I turned off the vehicle and tried to restart it in the hopes that it would clear the error. The vehicle engine would not start, and told me to shift the vehicle into park. I was unable to shift the gear into park or any gear. A tow truck driver came and we were able to force the vehicle into neutral for towing, but the vehicle's parking brake engaged and would not disengage. Every time we turned off the parking brake, it immediately turned itself back on. Thus, we could not push the vehicle into a better position for the tow truck to get the vehicle and the tow truck operator...
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed and while reversing, the contact stated that his wife heard an abnormal rubbing sound. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a fractured driveshaft. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the repair. The contact related the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V986000 (Power Train, Structure) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
At a stop, in electric mode, truck will lunge forward as if you were rear ended. Most of the time, transmission failure will occur after some time due to this lunging forward, and it has happened to many truck owners. Electric auxiliary transmission pump tends to be the cause .
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notification NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V896000 (Power Train). The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, and the brake wear indicator started chirping. The vehicle was taken to the residence where the rear driver’s side wheel was removed, and the rear axle bolt fell to the ground. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the tires were rubbing and that unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 65-70 MPH, the contact was flagged down by a nearby driver and advised to pull the vehicle over to the shoulder of the road. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road. The contact exited the vehicle and proceeded to inspect the vehicle. The contact noticed that the rear driver's side rim cap had detached. The contact stated that the center axle bolt was still attached to the rim cap. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed rear axle half shaft and hub and the rear axle half shaft and hub needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the driver's side rear axle bolt had previously been replaced and was under an unknown recall. In addition, the contact stated...
If you pull onto a road and try to accelerate, the vehicle is unresponsive. The RPMs will increase, yet the vehicle drive train (10 Speed Transmission) is unresponsive for several seconds. This has been an ongoing issue with the vehicle since new and was first reported to Ford Customer service on Jan 2022. Ford has made several attempts to fix this issue, yet the transmission continues to fail with the same issue. This is a critical safety issue that jeopardizes the passengers in the vehicle. Vehicle parking brake engages without notice. At any given time, the electronic parking brake engages without warning and you have to manually release. While sitting at a controlled intersection, on an inclined street, waiting for traffic light to change, with vehicle in Drive, foot on the brake, the electric parking brake engaged. Vehicle shift lever moved to the park position on its own. Vehicle engages...

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 15-20 MPH, the gears locked up. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was restarted, and the check engine warning light was flashing. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered to cover 70 percent of the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
My 2021 F-150 Powerboost randomly shuts down on the highway and while pulling out into traffic. When it shuts down the steering and brakes work but the engine is off/no acceleration and the truck displays a warning telling me to "Stop Safely Now". Truck has been look at many times by Ford and every time they give it back to me it happens again. There appears to be either and electrical or software issue but after 3 months Ford doesn't seem to know what's wrong with the truck even though they have reproduced the problem. It has happened over 20 times putting me and my family at risk of getting in an accident.
3.6.2021 - Ford F150 purchased at Battlefield Ford (Ourisman Ford), Manassus VA / registered in CT 7.27.21 – inspected by Torrington Ford, Torrington CT for rubbing sound front left side, nothing found / 6,325 miles 2.10.22 – inspected for same issue / nothing found / 16,000 miles 7.27.22 – inspected for same issue / nothing found / 24,000 miles 12.24.2022 – “Catastrophic failure” of front differential / 34,369 miles. On Christmas Eve 2022 myself, husband and son were driving to family in NY when the truck very quickly started to make a severe grinding sound, became unable to steer, loss of control, and started to produce smoke & fire under the hood. We immediately stopped and got out unharmed. Fire was dripping out of the bottom of the truck and smoke/fire under the hood. We were lucky. Firetrucks came but were unable to do anything. The truck's wheels completely seized...
On November 29, 2023 I took my 2021 F150 to Larry Miller Ford for servicing and repairs related to Recalls 22S71 and 23S35. When the tech was rotating the wheels he discovered that the axle shaft bolts were sheered off on both the left and right rear wheels. The service manager called to tell me that this was a serious safety issue and that only the brake rotors were preventing the wheels from falling off the truck. The service manager told me there was a "Customer Satisfaction Program 22B34" issued by Ford, but no Ford Recall relating to the problem. Larry Miller Ford has replaced both axles and axle bolts. I am waiting to find out if there is damage to the rotors, calipers or brake pads, a concern since the sheered off bolts were rattling around within that area since breaking off apparently between service visits. I strongly believe...
I heard a scratchy rattling sound around 35-36k miles at very low speeds. Eventually narrowed it down to the passenger rear wheel area. I took off the wheel to inspect the area and the head of the axle bolt fell out. It looked to have been yielded from over torquing or something. But I was shocked! I have no idea the actual period of failure. If I hadn’t rolled my windows down for the nice weather, I probably wouldn’t have heard it. I checked and there has been no recall or anything sent to me that this is a problem. I tow a camper with the family and if the axle failed while doing so, it could of killed us. Very unhappy that Ford has not recalled this. There are many others on a Facebook group that have had the same issue. It needs to be Remedied.
Vehicle came to complete stop in traffic with warning light "stop vehicle" would not restart. Taken to dealership. Dealership replaced ecu and some switches to power bank and wiring harness behind headlight. Vehicle was returned 1 week later Drove it 2 days later for 10 miles same thing happened, Ford towed it to another dealership where they cleared codes, and they said they can't replicate, Vehicle was returned after a week. 2 days later I drove yo work and again iy happened stopped in middle of road blocking traffic. Was towed by Ford to dealership where they found over 20 codes, said they can't fix. Ford and selling dealer towed to selling dealer, where they cleared codes and said they can't replicate. I refused yo take Vehicle on fear of getting in severe crash when Vehicle stalls and dies in heavy traffic again. I signed title and sent it to...
My truck has the Maximun payload axle upgrade. The axle bolts on the end of the shaft have broken. I first notice squealing sound of metal from rear of truck. I searched on line for the symptom and found the problem. I then removed passenger rear wheel to verify broken bolt. I took my truck for service to Morries Grand Ledge Ford in Michigan. They verified the problem, told me it was not safe to drive and have ordered parts. They also informed me that the defective axle is not covered by recall on my vehicle. The service representative did confirm that there are recalls for the same axle but not my vehicle.
Transmission is not working correctly. When truck comes to stop, after 3 second there is a strong jolt that feels like the vehicle is being rear-ended. Error code indicates Auxiliary Transmission Oil Pump. Other owners have had same problem and it was Auxiliary Transmission Oil Pump. Dangerous condition because could cause issue at intersections or hitting pedestrian or other vehicle. Part is apparently backordered so cannot even be fixed.
In the last year I have taken my F150 powerboost in Autonation Ford Orange Park in Jacksonville, Florida twice for recalls. For recall NHTSA # 22S26/22V250 the service department said they were ordering parts and would contact me when they arrived. Never contacted me, even after follow ups. I have recently taken my there for recall NHTSA 23S35/23V509. They have not contacted me.
- The component that has failed is the right rear axle and retaining bolt (the axle retaining bolt sheared off). The vehicle is currently at the dealership (The Ford Store San Leandro, in San Leandro, CA) waiting for replacement parts. Unknown if the vehicle is available for inspection. -To my knowledge my safety was not at risk, but the vehicle is being retained by the dealership because it is deemed a safety concern. -The broken axle bolt was found by the dealership when they were investigating a noise complaint. -The only symptom that was present was noise.
Gear shift lever jammed in reverse and could not be changed. With battery powered motor, the vehicle could possibly take off and cause damage or injury. Vehicle is new and still under warranty. Dealership is evaluating the problem
The driver's side rear axle bolt sheared off over the course of normal driving. Ford is aware of this problem, advises to not use/drive the vehicle, yet no recall has been issued. Without a recall, getting this issue fixed will take weeks/months and Ford should pay for a rental vehicle since this is clearly a manufacturing defect.
This is the 4th time since purchasing the truck that this event has happened with time having the most severe results. When shifting from reverse to park the shifter goes into park and jumps back into reverse. First event (after exiting the truck) the truck rolled into a shipping dock breaking a taillight and buckling the rear bumper. Next two I had one foot on running board and one foot in the truck ant was able to hit the brake stopping the truck. This fourth event one foot was on the running board and one on the ground. As truck went back the door flattened me to the ground and the front tires rolled over both of my legs. The truck rolled up an inclined parking lot, across a busy road and down a bank. I was driven by ambulance to the hospital and then transferred and airlifted to trauma...
The axle bolt on both rear wheel hubs has sheared about 1/2 inch down the bolt. This led to the gradual loss of power to the effected wheel hub causing unpredictable handling characteristics as the interface between the axle and the wheel hub degrades due to the fastener being sheared off.
The axle retaining bolt that retains the floating axle to the hub failed and resulted in the floating axle splines at the hub failing. This is a known issue (see Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 22B34) but the recall only applies to vehicles manufactured from May 1st, 2021 to September 30th, 2021. My vehicle had the exact failure described by the recall (including the tell-tale ticking sound before failure). However, the build date for my vehicle is March 17th, 2021. Clearly the recall should be on trucks earlier than the May 1 date. The truck was built at the Dearborn Plant. I am assuming the other axle suffers from the same issue and will also fail.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving in electric mode at an unknown speed, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate with the transmission in 8th gear. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle made an abnormal noise and shifted into 1st gear independently. The contact stated he had experienced the failure 5 times within 2 months. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V188000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,800.
Intermittent squeaking noise upon brake tip-in started at about 17,000 miles but performance seemingly unaffected. Then at 21,000 miles noises from became louder and prevalent at acceleration and braking. Noticed issue on Ford F150 14th Generation online forum about axle bolts shearing particularly for those vehicles with Max Tow package and that there was a Customer Satisfcation Program 22B34 to deal with the problem. Inspected hubs and found bolts sheared on both sides. Truck at dealer for warranty repair under the CSP.
The rear rotor/axle bolt was found to be sheered off; the bolt head was located within the hub simply rattling around loose. There is no warning outside of someone possibly hearing the bolt head rattling in the hub as the truck passes by. Thankfully, someone heard mine; otherwise, I would have had no idea the problem existed. This issue has been reported numerous times in multiple online forums, apparently on trucks equipped with the power boost and max towing, and poses an extremely dangerous hazard to the occupants of the truck and to all others on the road. A family member with a similar truck (same model and year) has already had their rear axle assemblies replaced three times (twice on one side and once on the other)!
The 10 speed transmission shifts erratically on both the up shift and down shift sometimes as much as 3 gears and the electric motor interface is also rough and I’m afraid it’s going to self destruct while driving on the highway leading to an accident
(June 14, 2023) While traveling at 55mph the vehicle suddenly accelerated for about 2-3 seconds and several dashboard lights turned on and flashed not available. (ABS, Traction control, Blinds Spot, pre-collision) I safely pulled over turned the truck off, waited a few seconds. Turned the truck back on, and ABS light was solid on the dashboard. I drove another 15 miles stopped again, and when I restarted the check engine light remained solid. After inspecting the truck, I found gear oil leaking from the right rear tire. I removed the plastic hub cap and discovered sheared off axle bolt. Truck was delivered to dealer for repair.
