2014 FORD EXPLORER Steering Problems

I have a 2014 Ford Explorer sport. I notice the airbag light went on. I ran my obd scanner, initially it gave B00A0 and B0061 error codes. After a couple weeks, my EPS doesn’t work after I turned the engine on, it won’t turn left or right. It went away after turning off and back on. It happened again after couple of days, i was leaving the gas station and the message went on and i tried to restart the engine twice, but it still didn’t fix it, but i had to leave cause there are people behind me waiting. I tried to drive forward and just end up blocking the way cause I couldn’t turn the steering wheel and people are getting upset. Thank God it worked after the 3rd restart. Then 3rd time it happened, it didn’t went away after how many times i turn off and on...

Completely and suddenly lost power steering. It appears to be a major issue with Explorers. A recall was made for explorers up to 2013, but the problem persists in additional year models. It is a very expensive repair and it appears to be a manufacturing flaw.

Car has been hard when turning since last year.also, on highway while traveling at 55mph car drifting from side to side.

Electric Power Steering locked up. Almost killed me my fiance. And my 2 kids.

The power steering went out and it was discovered the steering rack and pinion need replaced. This is available for inspection upon request. It is unknown when this can be fixed so I am without a car until then. Upon research this is a common problem for this year and model of car. There was no warning messages, I just all of a sudden did not have power steering and was not able to steer my vehicle.

Steering went completely out in a curve while my wife was driving. She had to manually steer the wheel to keep from wrecking, and it was very hard for her to turn. This isn’t the first issue I’ve had with the steering, but I’ve researched and other years of explorer with the same issue have recalls but not the 2014s. It’s VERY dangerous for my 110lb wife with our 4 children to drive a vehicle who’s steering may go out at any moment. There were never any dash lights to indicate any problems. I will be getting it serviced soon. Please put out a recall on the 2014s before the steering goes out and ends up killing someone.

I was driving home on the Bonne Carre Spillway Bridge from New Orleans to Baton Rouge and the warning lights came on while my car started swerving. Needless to say, I was Terrified when the warning message on my dashboard said, "Steering fault Service now" and both swervy line warning lamps under the directional panel on the dashboard came on. I had no steering power and had to drive 45 mph all the way to Baton Rouge on I-10 almost getting run over by 18 wheelers and other vehicles. I have 163,303 miles on the truck. Thank God for the Hollingsworth Ford Dealership employees (Lori) who were able to take my vehicle that same day. Power steering stopped working while my family and I were an hour from home. Dash warning said Power Steering Fault Stop Safely. Drove home with no power steering and parked it. Have not driven it since. Started the vehicle multiple times, inspected all fuses and breakers, all intact. All research points towards a fault in the Electric assisted power steering.

Steering started grinding and has slight resistance when turning left when trying to pull the wheel back to straight. Upon taking it to my repair shop, they have found that the electric steering rack & pinion component needs to be replaced. When they contacted Ford for this part, it's on national backorder with no ETA. There were no warnings to this happening, no lights, no other issues, this just started out of the blue. Obviously with the part being on national backorder, this is happening with more than just my vehicle and yet Ford is not issuing a recall. How long can I drive this for waiting on the recall? I don't have another vehicle to use to get to/from work.

There were no cars around me at the time. - Waiting on Ford Dealership to call me back - Once my power steering failed there was a warning light stating that it failed and I needed to pull over safely. Vehicle lost all power steering, traction control, and AdvanceTrac features due to electronic steering gear failure(ASE certified diagnosis). Very dangerous, and costly problem for a vehicle with only 100k miles.

While driving down freeway at 65 mph, noticed on curves, steering was becoming "glitchy." Upon getting off freeway, noticed warning light for Loss of Accutrac warning came up on the message center. Turned engine off and looked under hood to see if there were any visible problems, no visible problems. I proceeded to turn ignition back on and red warning came up loss of power steering. I was able to drive vehicle to safe place, however with no power steering. 2014 ford explorer was then towed to dealership for repair/service. Contacted by dealership that the rack and pinion (electronic power steering) needed to be replaced and reprogrammed, not under warranty and cost would be $3200.00. It has been a month with no repair and part still on factory back order. Apparently 2014 is not under the recall for previous and post years (not sure why). Mileage on vehicle is 49500....

Steering has become stiff and unable to turn wheel. Have recall for toe link scheduled, but Ford says if steering is that tough than it’s not just the toe link causing issue.

Electric power steering failing while driving. Loss of power steering assist cause vehicle to become hard to steer at speed, no warning lights. Took to mechanic who reproduced the problem but said they could not do anything and it had to go to the dealer for repair.

I was on my back from NJ and all of a sudden my vehicle had a power steering fault and Terrain managment fault, I had just decided to resolve the issue by turning the vehicle on/off again, and it worked, it got me safely home but the terrain managment fault persisted, I was confused and unsure whether to keep on driving, forward from that, it felt harder to steer and slow my vehicle down, while i was going at the speed limit at one point I had attempted to stop before a red light and my vehicle even though brakes were pushed, stopped after the red light. While turning into a parking lot the steering wheel locks up and almost impossible to control the steering. This will cause me to have a wreck. It will reset when the vehicle is cut off and back on. Ford had a recall on the 2013 models for this reason because it locks up the steering wheel it is a dangerous thing. I need help I read there is alot of people with this issue with their 2014 explorers around the same millage. There needs to be a recall on this

I am un able to steer my vehicle almost got into an accident on my way to work . I lost all steering function and lights displayed for power steering assist . I feel this issue needs to be part of the recall amd include 2014 explorers seems to be a common complaint as I was reading and very unsafe.

Cranked car and began to drive home. Noticed there was a grinding noise when turning the steering wheel at low speeds. DRIVING DOWN ROAD AND LOST STEERING. WOULD NOT STEER AT ALL. THE STEERING RACK MALFUNCTIONED. HAD MECHANIC SHOP IDENTIFY ISSUE. THE POWER STEERING SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN STEERING WAS LOST AND THERE WAS NO NOTICE. HAD TO HAVE STEERING RACK REPLACED. LUCKY NOBODY GOT HURT. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE. FORD HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH STEERING ISSUE BEFORE. I THINK FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND I AM LOOKING FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE TOW AND REPAIRS.

The power steering went out and made the vehicle impossible to drive.We were on vacation 112 miles from home when this happen, so I had it towed 112 miles back home and I took it in the the dealer I purchased it from. They said there was a recall on 2011-2017 Explorers but excludes the 2014 model year. This vehicle only has 24517 miles on it and the dealer said I would have to pay the whole repair bill of almost $2200. Ford knows there is an issue with these vehicles so I don't understand why they would not include the 2014 Explorer also.

I started researching and see that this was a recall on 2011-2013 and 2015=2017 Explorers but not on the 2014. This is crazy. second time loss of power steering, first time almost got in accident. they said it was battery, so they replaced battery and reprogramed it at dealership. second time it happened was parked and when restarted no power steering, brought to dealership they said it was the steering rack, replaced rack, cost 2400,00 this should be covered under the recall

The electronic steering assist is making noises. It’s hard to steer, steering locks up same issues as 2011-13 and 2016-17 Explorers. 2014 is the only model which hasn’t been recalled mileage is 112453 bought used with 109280 miles. When driving the steering wheel will suddenly lock up where you can’t turn then after a moment or so it will free up. This is very dangerous and I’ve seen a lot of other Ford Explorer owners with this same year 2014 having same problems and even wrecking their cars because of it. Ford recalled 2011-13 and 2016-17 but not 2014 or 2015 and these years are having same problems as the recalled vehicles.

Vehicle Electronic Power Steering stopped working. Power Steering Fault & Service Advanced Trac message. Also saw a day later another message that would come up with the Service Advanced Trac. It would be to Check Brake System. While researching I found that Ford had a recall for the Power Steering & Service Advance Trac for the 2011 - 2013 model years. On the NHTSA there have been quite a few people complaining about the 2014 model for Power Steering & Service Advance Trac. I didn't get a picture of the Power Steering fault, but I did get a picture of the Service AdvanceTrac with the Check Brake message. Putting it in with this as well.

While driving, without warning, the power steering went out. My 2014 Explorer became extremely difficult to steer. Luckily this happened before I made it to the end of my street. Had my wife been driving or I was traveling at higher speeds, this would have definitely resulted in an accident. We parked the car for a week, trying it intermittently, and today the steering worked again. But not knowing when or where it will happen again, and the accident risk to my family and other drivers, makes this vehicle inoperable. Given the similar complaints from other 2014 Explorer owners, this is clearly the case of a faulty part or system and Ford should issue a recall.

Power steering locked up while driving, a warning on the dash to have power steering serviced came up, we drove approximately one mile or less down the road to a friends house and as we were pulling in his drive the steering locked up, the vehicle could not be moved, it was inoperable and had to be towed to the Ford garage This was a very serious safety hazard, had it locked up while we were driving down the road we would had no control of the steering, and ended up where it took us. Across the center line onto on coming traffic or off the side of the road. Vey scary situation

Electric Power Steering unit has frozen or locked up. Occurred at slow speed in my driveway before I pulled out into traffic, fortunately. Unable to turn steering wheel at all. Disconnecting battery to reset system did not change anything. Car will have to be towed or trailered to dealer for repair.
