NHTSA Complaint #11471230 — 2014 FORD EXPLORER

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormal grinding sound was coming from the steering wheel while steering in either direction. In addition, the contact also stated that the steering wheel would fail to readjust after making a turn and would stiffen while driving at various speeds without warning. The contact called the dealer where she was given an estimate for the repair and was informed that the parts to repair the steering wheel were on back order. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided the same information as the dealer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
