2014 FORD EXPLORER Back Over Prevention Sensing System Camera Problems

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the rearview camera would display a distorted image while the vehicle was in reverse(R). The contact stated that the failure had obstructed the driver's visibility, which prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact stated that they had been involved in two low-speed, parking lot accidents. The contact stated that no injuries were reported in either incident. Unknown if a police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. However, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

In February of 2024 I received a recall notice for this vehicle with respect to defective A-pillar applique trim clip attachments around the windshield. The recall stated that parts would be available the latter half of 2024 and that we would be notified when we could schedule our SUV to be fixed. We did not hear from Ford for many months. When winter approached, we called to see what the status was of the parts for this recall. We were told the parts were not available until December. Unaware that this flaw could cause severe water leaking, my wife drove the car as usual. The recall notice even states that there is no reason to stop driving the vehicle. When the first rains hit in November, the car leaked A LOT of water around the windshield and came through the top console. So much water leaked into the floor carpet...

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear-view camera needed to be replaced. The rear-view camera was replaced and reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

rear camera fails 1/3 times

My 2014 Ford Explorer Sport backup camera has begun showing mirror image and the review guidance markers have disappeared when in reverse. The camera works it simply show a mirror image in the camera. I believe the camera issue is the same for newer models that have been recently identified on TV news and newspapers. I would like to add my vehicle to the recall.

The back up camera does not always work. You may want to back up and find the camera does not work. Makes the process difficult and dangerous. Other times it might start as you back up then all of a sudden it stops working. Providing a in motion safety issue. Then there times it just doesn’t work. When the driver is use to use in it makes the driver uncomfortable and dangerous.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NEWINS BAY SHORE FORD (219 W MAIN ST, BAY SHORE, NY 11706), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BECAUSE THERE WAS A FEE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000. *BF CONSUMER STATED I BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE I CAN ONLY TURN MY NECK A LIMITED AMOUNT AND REALLY LIKED THE CAMERA FOR BACKING UP. AT ANY TIME IN THE MIDDLE OF A BACKED THE CAMERA WILL GO BLANK LEAVING ME STANDED, I HAVE CONTACTED FORD HEADQUARTERS. *JB
