AT 73K MILES, LOW COOLANT LIGHT APPEARED WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE SIGNS OF A LEAK. DROVE TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT WATER PUMP AND HEATER HOSE WERE LEAKING. THE NEXT WEEK THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME BACK ON SO I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CONNECTION HOSE TO THE CYLINDER HEAD WAS LEAKING. AFTER REPLACING THIS HOSE CONNECTION, DEALERSHIP NOW TELLS ME THAT LEAK IS COMING FROM CYLINDER HEAD. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.
WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THE ESCAPE INDICATING LOW COOLANT AND/OR OVERHEATING/PULL OVER SAFELY (LIMP MODE). SEVERAL TIMES, WE WERE IN TRAFFIC ON CITY STREETS WHEN IT SUDDENLY WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND PULLING OVER SAFELY WAS SCARY. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAD THE WATER PUMP REPLACED, THE HEATER BYPASS HOSE REPLACED AND THE COOLING SYSTEM "BURPED". DURING THE LAST VISIT, WE WERE TOLD THE "COOLANT STAND PIPE" NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR A FEE OF $1275. I UNDERSTAND THAT PART WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REPLACED DURING FORD'S 13S12 RECALL CAMPAIGN. AT THIS POINT, THE ESCAPE CAN'T BE TRUSTED TO GO ANY DISTANCE WITHOUT GOING INTO LIMP MODE AND POSING A SAFETY HAZARD TO US AND OTHERS NEAR US.
I JUST PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE ABOUT A MONTH AGO. RECENTLY, THE CAR WOULD JUST STOP OUT OF NO WHERE. WHEN ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF AND ON. WHEN I NOTICE IT ON ONE TIME, I WENT TO AUTO ZONE IT SAID IT WAS A COOLANT BYPASS WHICH MEANS MY CAR IS GETTING TOO HOT HOWEVER I KNOWN WHEN I START UP THE CAR IN THE MORNING, IT WOULD GET HOT FAST WHICH IS NOT NORMAL. CAR STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE GOING ABOUT 10-15 MPH AND THIS IS ABOUT THE TENTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN SEVERAL DAYS.
MY VEHICLE HAS HAD ISSUES THE LAST YEAR. IT STARTED WITH A COOLANT LEAK THAT CAME OUT OF NO WHERE WHICH STALLED MY CAR BECAUSE A WARNING CAME UP STATING IT WAS TOO HOT. I JUST ADDED COOLANT AND IT SEEMED TO BE FINE, A FEW MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AND MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND COILS. IT SEEMED TO BE FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT I WAS CONSTANTLY HAVING COOLANT ISSUES AND HAVING TO ADD MORE. IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND I WAS GOING THROUGH ONE GALLON OF COOLANT A WEEK. THE CAR WOULD STALLED ALL THE TIME WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR BUT AS SOON AS I OPENED THE RESERVOIR TO ADD MORE IT FILL ALMOST COMPLETELY BACK UP. I TOOK IT TO FORD AND THE QUOTED ME $7,100 TO...
THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO STRUGGLE TO RUN AT IDLE SOMETIMES WHEN AT A STOP SIGN OR WHEN TURNING.
COOLANT COMPLETELY DEPLETED TWICE WITHIN ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASE. COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO ENGINE CYLINDER 3.
LEAKING COOLANT INTO ENGINE CYLINDER BLOCK.
LOSS OF ANTIFREEZE, CONSTANT REFILLING. I HAVE TO REFILL IT EVERY WEEK OR LESS. CHECKED SYSTEM AND PIPES, COULD NOT FIND ISSUE. HARD SMELL OF CHEMICALS IN VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING BUT EVEN STRONGER WHILE STATIONARY.

I HAVE A FORD ESCAPE SEL 2013. I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE COOLANT LEAKING. I HAD AN DIAGNOSTIC TEST DONE AND IT CAME UP SAYING "ERROR CODE P1299, CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE SENSOR DETECTED ENGINE OVERHEATING CONDITION". I CALLED FORD COMPANY AND A FORD DEALERSHIP TO QUESTION ABOUT THE SENSOR AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY PARTICULAR SUV. MY FRIEND AND I TOOK TO THE INTERNET TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE SUV AND UNDER FORD AND NTHSA THERE HAS BEEN RECALLS ON THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE WITH THE FORD ESCAPE 2013 SEL. WE CALLED FORD AND THE SAME DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON MY ESCAPE. I CALLED NTHSA AND WAS ASKED FOR MY VIN NUMBER AND WAS TOLD ALSO THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PART. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THIS RECALL...
CAR STALLING WHILE DRIVING AFTER ENGINE WARMS UP NO CODES OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAVE TAKEN TO THREE MECHANICS NOT ONE KNOWS THE PROBLEM
I'M DRIVING AND MY VEHICLE IS STALLING AND HAVING HESITATION TO GET GOING AGAIN. IT STALLS THREE OR FOUR TIMES BEFORE IT WANTS TO RUN CORRECTLY. I TALKED TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY CAR VIN. NUMBER IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST AND THERES MANY CARS LIKE MINE THAT ARE ON THE RECALL LIST. MY CAR IS ACTUALLY MOVING WHEN IT STALLS ON ME. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND IT STALLS ON ME WHERE I CAN GET HIT OR KILLED.
MY ESCAPE LIKES TO STALL GOING LIKE 10 MPH. THE VEHICLE STARTS TO HESTISTATE AND WONT GO ANYWHERE. IT STALLS AND LIKE IT SHUTTING OFF WITH THE OIL LIGHT AND THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON. I RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT DOES IT AGAIN LIKE IT DONT WANT TO MOVE. IT STALLS LIKE THREE TO FOUR TIMES AND IT WOULD RUN LIKE NORMAL. ALSO, AFTER THE CONTACT FILLED UP THE FUEL TANK, IT TOOK FOUR ATTEMPTS FOR THE VEHICLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE ENTIRE SOLENOID EVAPORATION SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIRS WERE BEING COMPLETED WITH MANUFACTURER APPROVED PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
THE VEHICLE WILL RANDOMLY STALL OUT WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR WITHOUT WARNING. IT'S BUTTERS LIKE IT'S OUT OF FUEL THE ENGINE SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND THEN TURNS OFF. ONCE THE CAR SITS UNTIL THE ENGINE GETS COMPLETELY COOL IT WILL RUN NORMAL. SOMETIMES IT TAKES A THOUSAND MILES SOMETIMES IT TAKES 10. IT STALLS UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES BUT WILL NOT STALL IF IT'S IN PARK IDLING. AS SOON AS YOU PUT IT IN DRIVE IT SHIFTS INTO SECOND AND THEN STALLS. TAKING IT TO SEVERAL PLACES AND IT'S NEVER ACTED UP WHEN THEY TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE SO NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. IT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN IF I PULL OUT ONTO A HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLS I COULD POTENTIALLY BEING A FATAL CRASH. MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE HAD AN ENGINE FIRE IN NOV 2018. WHAT HAPPENED MATCHES A RECALL FORD HAD ON A COOLANT LEAK CAUSING AN OIL LEAD CAUSING THE FIRE. I CONTACTED FORD ASKING FOR A REFUND FOR MY REPAIRS BECAUSE IT MATCHED THE RECALL. THEY ARE TELLING ME NO BECAUSE MY CAR WAS NOT LISTED IN RECALL. I ASKED IF IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT THERE WERE CARS NOT LISTED ON THE RECALL, BUT HAD THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD YES. ASKED HOW I COULD HAVE I CASE LOOKED INTO AGAIN FOR POSSIBLE PAYMENT AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE NHTSA, WHICH IS WHAT I AM DOING.

VEHICLE STALLED AND LOST POWER ON HIGHWAY 03/02/19 AND CEASED COMPLETELY REQUIRING A TOW TO FORD DEALERSHIP. AWAITING DIAGNOSIS FROM SERVICE DEPARTMENT. EXPERIENCING LOCALIZED OVERHEATING OF THE ENGINE CYLINDERHEAD WHICH MAY CAUSE CRACKS THAT COULD ALLOW OIL TO LEAK . THIS IS A KNOWN COOLANT SENSOR PROBLEM. ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, THIS HAS CAUSED MANY KNOWN ACCIDENTS. THERE IS NO WARNING TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE.

ENGLINE LIGHT COMES ON DUE TO COOLANT LEAK. LEAK HAS BEEN FIXED AND CONTINUES TO OVERHEAT THE ENGINE. MOST OF THE COOLANT CONTAINER, VALVES AND EVERYTHING ELSE HAS BEEN FIXED STILL IT CONTINUES. I AM TAKING THIS IN TOMORROW TO RECTIFY. MUST BE THE FUEL MODULE AFTER ALL.
THE ENGINE HAS STALLED TWICE IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD. APPARENTLY FORD IS THE ONLY RESOURCE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THEY ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE TIMING BELT AS IT HAD BEEN CONTAMINATED. THIS REPAIR CAME TO $1600. I HAVE ALSO SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON SEVERAL ON LINE FORUMS WHERE FOLKS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.

BOUGHT VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018, WHICH SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THIS PROBLEM. VEHICLE IS CONTINUOUSLY GOING INTO A LIMP MODE DUE TO "FALSE OVERHEATING". ENGINE THINKS IT IS OVERHEATING WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF STARTING VEHICLE, AND WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE TO OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. WITH 20 DEGREE WEATHER, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR AN ENGINE TO FULLY WARM. OCCURRENCES OF THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED ON THE FOLLOWING DATES: 12/31/18 - ONE TIME, A RESTART OF THE VEHICLE RESOLVED 1/10/19 - ONE TIME, LEFT VEHICLE AT WORK AT AFTER DRIVING 2/15/19 - 4 TIMES IN A ROW, AND HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO A SHOP 2/18/19 - SOON AFTER THE SHOP HAD IT AND REPAIRED A COOLANT LEAK. LIMP MODE OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH IS NOT NOT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, BUT I GENUINELY FEARED FOR MY LIFE. WHILE THE SHOP WAS HAVING TROUBLE REPLICATING THE PROBLEM...
WHILE DRIVING, MY ENGINE COOLANT LOW NOTICE CAME ON AND THEN A BEEPING STARTED AND THE WARNING CAME UP THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND TO STOP SAFELY. I HAD THE CAR CHECKED, A HEATER HOSE AND COOLANT REPLACED. 3 WEEKS LATER, AGAIN AFTER A COLD START (IT WAS 25 OUT) I STARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE COOLANT LOW WARNING CAME ON AND RIGHT AFTER STARTING TO DRIVE, THE WARNING NOISES CAME ON AND THE CAR STOPPED. I HAD IT CHECKED BY BOTH FORD AND ANOTHER MECHANIC. THE OTHER MECHANIC WAS TOLD BY FORD IT WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE HOWEVER, FORD SAYS THERE IS NOT UPDATE AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE.

CONSTANTLY FILLING WITH ANTIFREEZE AND CANNOT FIND A LEAK. REPLACED WATER PUMP HOPING TO SOLVE PROBLEM DID NOT. NOTICED MANY PEOPLE HAVE SAME PROBLEM ON GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND SOME CARS DID HAVE RECALL FOR THIS REASON. NOT SURE WHY MINE WAS NOT
THE VEHICLE IS STALLING. IN MOTION, TYPICALLY JUST AFTER APPLYING GAS OR WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP. FIRESTONE AUTO REPAIR STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS PRODUCING HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAUSING ISSUE WITH THE BATTERY. THEY REPALCED THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY, BUT THE ISSUE STILL REMAINS.
MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE SEL 1.6L WITH ECOBOOST IS HAVING THE SAME COOLANT ISSUES AS MANY SIMILAR MODELS HAVE BEEN HAVING. HOWEVER, MY CAR'S VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE OFFICIAL RECALL SO I HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL DESPITE IT CLEARLY BEING THE EXACT INSTANCE IN WHICH THE RECALL WAS ISSUED. FOR A CLARIFICATION OF THE ISSUE. THE COOLANT IS RAPIDLY DEPLETING DESPITE NO VISIBLE LEAKS OR SMELLS OF IT BURNING OFF, INDICATING THAT IT'S LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE (FIRE HAZARD AS ITS A POTENTIAL TO IGNITE) CAUSED IN PART BY FAULTY HOSING EQUIPMENT. WHEN THE COOLANT LEVELS GET TOO LOW, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND AN IMMEDIATE ALERT THAT THE ENGINE IS OVERHEATING... EVEN THOUGH THE TEMPERATURE REMAINS UNCHANGED. THE CAR THEN BEGINS TO STALL UNTIL THE COOLANT LEVELS ARE RETURNED TO NORMAL.
THE ENGINE WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS BEEN DOING IT AFTER BEING OFF FOR 0-60 MINUTES. I WON'T BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND THEN THE CAR STARTS SHAKING AND SHUTS DOWN.
ENGINE STALLS WHILE IN MOTION. YOU CAN ONLY ROLL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. WILL RESTART AFTER SITTING AWHILE. VERY DANGEROUS.
HAS BEEN LEAKING COOLANT INTERMITTENTLY FOR PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. DEALER CHECKED IN PAST BUT NO CAUSE FOUND. HAS GOTTEN WORSE PAST MONTH. TODAY TOLD BY DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT IT IS LEAKING COOLANT FROM THE ENGINE AND THE 1.6 ECOBOOST NEEDS TO BE REPLACE AT A COST OF $2500. VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 55,000 MILES WITH ALL PREVENTIVE SERVICES PERFORMED. NO EXCUSE FOR THIS OTHER THAN A MANUFACTURING DESIGN DEFECT IN THE ENGINE. THIS HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED ON EARLY VERSIONS OF THE ESCAPE WITH SOME RECALLS DONE. THIS PRESENTS SAFETY ISSUE FOR ENGINE CATCHING ON FIRE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY NHTSA WITH EXTENSION OF SAFETY RECALLS TO PROTECT ALL ECOBOOST ENGINES. FORD IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
THIS CAR HAS THE EXACT SAME ENGINE AND COOLANT SYSTEM AS 2014 MODEL AND THAT MODEL WAS RECALLED FOR COOLANT LEAK ON ENGINE THAT COULD CAUSE ENGINE OVERHEATING OR ENGINE FORE, FOR SOME INEXPLICABLE REASON 2013 WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. MY VEHICLE HAS THIS EXACT PROBLEM. THIS IS ABSURD.
RECALLS ON FORD ESCAPE. I AM AWARE THAT A LOT OF THE 2013 FORD ESCAPES HAVE RECALLS ON THEM. MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT I HAVE A LEAK IN MY COOLANT HOSE THAT I AM HAVING TO REPLACE NOW. I HAVE HAD A LOTS OF TROUBLE OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK AND MY CAR FOR THE LONGEST TIME WOULD JUST STOP IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AFTER TAKING OFF.
THE CAR LOOSES COOLANT INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN JULY 2012, JUST OUTSIDE THE DATES REPORTED ON YOUR WEBSITE FOR A POTENTIAL FIRE RISK FROM COOLANT LEAKS ON THESE VEHICLES. YOUR WEBSITE DAYS "AUGUST 2012" IS THE START DATE FOR THE PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES. SHOULD THE DATE RANGE BE CHANGED?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON IN ORDER FOR IT TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN WHEN PLACED IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PARKS FORD & LINCOLN OF GAINESVILLE (3333 N MAIN ST, GAINESVILLE, FL 32609, (352) 372-4251) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S GEAR SHIFTER FAILED TO CHANGE INTO ANY GEAR. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANEUVER THE GEAR SHIFTER TO ENSURE THAT THE GEARS PROPERLY CHANGED OVER. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE COOLANT INDICATOR KEPT RANDOMLY FLASHING AND COOLANT LEAKED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE COOLANT HAD TO BE CONSTANTLY CHECKED DUE TO BEING LOW OR NEARLY EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KING FORD (9555 KINGS AUTO MALL RD, CINCINNATI, OH 45249, 513-683-0220), BUT WAS NOT YET DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V551000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
AROUND JANUARY 2018 THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE COOLANT LEVEL WAS LOW AND COOLANT WAS ADDED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TOM'S FORD, KEYPORT FOR EVALUATION AND NO ISSUE WAS FOUND. IN JANUARY 2019 THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED THE COOLANT LEVEL AND IT SEEMED FINE. THE NEXT DAY ABOUT 5 MINUTES INTO DRIVING THE HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE WARMING CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE SAID TO SAFELY STOP. I PARKED AND CHECKED THE COOLANT AND IT WAS HALF EMPTY. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR TO DRIVE TO THE CLOSEST SERVICE STATION. AFTER 30 SECONDS THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I PARKED AND WALKED TO THE SERVICE STATION TO BUY COOLANT AND ADDED IT TO THE VEHICLE. THE WARNING LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE VEHICLE DROVE OK. I TOOK IT TO TOM'S FORD ON JANUARY 4TH FOR EVALUATION. I WAS TOLD...

DEFECT CODE P1299 SAYS ENGINE OVERHEATING BUT JUST STARTED IT AND IT IS 6 DEGREES OUTSIDE WHEN IT HAPPENED SO HARDLY HOT.... I PULLED OUT OF WORK PARKING LOT AND CAR ENTERED 'LIMP' MODE - I COULD NOT EVEN BACK UP TO GET BACK IN THE WORK PARKING LOT. LET IT 'COOL DOWN' FOR 15 MINUTES AND THEN TRIED AGAIN TO GET IT TO THE DEALER JUST 1/4 MILE FROM MY WORK. DIED AGAIN ON THE MAIN ROAD - PULLED TO THE SIDE AND WAITED ANOTHER 15 MINUTES (DID I MENTION IT WAS 6 DEGREES?) THEN STARTED AND FLEW TO THE DEALER AND IT LIMPED THE LAST 100 FEET AGAIN. THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE TIME TO LOOK AT IT THE NEXT DAY SO I HAD IT TOWED TO ANOTHER SERVICE STATION AND THEY FOUND THE CODE. BUT ENGINE IS NOT OVERHEATED...NO SIGN OF LEAKING OR ANYTHING BUT THE CODE...

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
