I BOUGHT MY 2000 DODGE INTREPID IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. HAD ALL FLUIDS CHANGED ON A REGULAR BASIS. STARTED NOTICING BLUISH/GRAY SMOKE. TOOK VEHICLE TO REPAIR SHOP FOR DIAGNOSIS. WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE OF PROBLEMS. WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND HAD COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. GOOD THING I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN, SOME ONE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT! I HAVE A 2000 DODGE INTREPID THAT I BOUGHT IN OCTOBER OF 2003, IN SEPTEMBER OF 2004 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULDN'T GO OFF. AFTER SPENDING $900.00 AND 2 TOWING BILLS THE DODGE DEALER FINALLY GOT THE LIGHT TO STAY OFF BY REPLACING THE CAM AND CRANK SENSORS. APPROX 6 1/2 MONTHS LATER IN APRIL OF 2005 WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MILES PER HOUR THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A LOUD CLICKING NOISE. I TOOK IT TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC THAT TOLD ME A ROD HAD BLOWN IN THE ENGINE.HE TOLD ME IT WOULD PROBABLY RUN ME AROUND $5000.00 TO REPAIR. MY 2002 DODGE INTREPID STARTED TO MAKE A KNOCKING SOUND. MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE/REPAIR WIYH MY LOCAL MECHANIC. APPT WAS FOR MAY 5, 2002. MY CAR NEVER MADE IT TO THE APPOINTMENT. ON MAY 4, 2002, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A DR. APPT @ ABOUT 4:30 P.M. & MY CAR LITERALLY SHUT OFF WITH NO WARNING. WHILE DRIVING MY DODGE INTERPID (THAT HAS A 2.7 LITER ENGINE) THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE. WE COULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 25 MPH AND THE ENGINE WOULDN'T STAY RUNNING IF YOU HIT THE BRAKE AT ALL. WHILE TURNING A CORNER INTO TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE DIED. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES OF THE NOISE BEGINNING, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGN THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG PRIOR TO IT HAPPENING. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC'S GARAGE AND WERE TOLD IT NEEDS A WHOLE NEW ENGINE AND IT WOULD COST 5,800.00. THE MECHANIC SAID THIS IS A KNOWN MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE AND THE PROBLEM USUALLY STARTS BETWEEN 50-60K MILES. (MINE HAD APPROXIMATELY 56,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME THE PROBLEM STARTED. I ALSO CALLED A CHRYSLER MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE SAME EXACT THING ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE.
