CAR WAS EXITING HIGHWAY AND WHILE ON EXIT RAMP A POPPING SOUND WAS HEARD IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE RAMP AND ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR GARAGE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT ONE CYLINDER HAD NO COMPRESSION AND THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS DISASSEMBLED. THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE PISTON WAS DETACHED/BROKEN FROM THE CRANKSHAFT AND WOULD REQUIRE A MAJOR ENGINE OVERHAUL OR ENGINE REPLACEMENT. *TR

MY 2000 DODGE INTREPID 2.7L DOHC ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HEARD A NOISE THAT COULD BE DESCRIBED AS A "DIESEL ENGINE" SOUND WHILE MY CAR WAS IDLING AND RUNNING AT LOWER SPEEDS. I HAD SEVERAL FRIENDS LISTEN TO IT AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WITHOUT GETTING "INSIDE THE ENGINE". I PLANNED ON TAKING MY CAR TO THE SHOP THE NEXT DAY, AND WHILE MY CAR WAS PARKED AND IN IDLE, THE CAR DIED. WHEN TRYING TO RESTART IT, IT WOULD RUN FOR 5 TO 10 SECONDS AND THEN DIE AGAIN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC SPENT THREE HOURS DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM AND CREATING AN ESTIMATE. THE BILL WAS $280.00 INCLUDING THE TOW AND LABOR. THE MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND SUBSEQUENTLY CRACKED THE VALVE COVER AND DAMAGED THE VALVES, AMONG OTHER COMPONENTS. THE ESTIMATE TO REPLACE...
I WAS DRIVING HOME, STOPPED AT A LIGHT, THE CAR HESITATED AND KNOCKED THEN WENT. I DROVE A LITTLE FURTHER AND IT BEGAN KNOCKING AND LOOSING POWER. I WAS TRAVELING UP A HILL WITH NO SHOULDER. PULLED OVER IN A SAFE LOCATION AND CALLED FOR HELP. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO GRAPHS AUTOMOTIVE. THEY INFORMED ME THE ENGINE BLEW DUE TO THE #4 PISTON. I TOWED THE CAR BACK HOME. *TR

ON FEB 17,2006,MY KIDS WAS GOING OUT OF TOWN AFTER ABOUT 55 MILES OUT OF TOWN. MY DAUGHTER HEARD A SOUND UNDER THE HOOD,THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON SHE PULLED OVER ON INTERSTATE 10 . THEN SHE TRIED TO START IT UP AGAIN AND IT WOULDN'T START. THE TOW TRUCK CAME AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND WE WAS TOLD THE ENGINE HAD LOCKED UP (BLEW). WHILE DRIVING, MY DODGE INTREPID STARTED TO SHUDDER. AFTER PULLING OVER AND TURNING OFF THE CAR, IT WOULD NO LONGER RESTART. IT WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE 2.7 ENGINE WAS SHOT DUE TO SLUDGE. I WAS SHOCKED SINCE THE CAR WAS 5 YEARS OLD, HAD ROUGHLY 78K MILES, AND WAS WELL-MAINTAINED. SO FAR CHRYSLER HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE TO MY PROBLEM.

ENGINE WAS NEVER CORRECT AFTER THAT AND FAILED. WILLIAM T. PRITCHARD DODGE'S SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME TO GET RID OF THE CAR AND THAT THE 2.7 V6 DAIMLER CHRYSLER ENGINE WAS NOTHING BUT JUNK!

THIS VEHICLE HAS 80,000 MILES ON IT AND IS HALF PAID FOR AND CHRYSLER SAYS THAT THE DESIGN CAUSES IT TO BE REPLACED ONCE IT GOES BAD. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED US THAT CHRYSLER KNEW IT WAS A POOR DESIGN BUT THAT WAS THE TRADE OFF FOR MORE POWER OUT OF A SMALLER ENGINE....
