UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTION. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWELVE TIMES. IN ADDITION, WHENEVER ACCESSING THE EXTERIOR FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER LOCKED POWER DOORS, THEY FAILED TO RELEASE OPEN WITH THE KEY FOB. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWELVE TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AND HAVE THE CARS NEW NOISE CHECKED. HE SAID IT COULD BE A LIFTER TICKING AND THE OIL CHANGE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. HE WAS CORRECT ABOUT THE SOUND MUTING HOWEVER THE ISSUE MAY BE THE TINY OIL PORT HOLES IN THESE MITSUBISHI MADE MOPAR ENGINES. ON THE DAY OF THE ENGINES DEATH IT MADE THE SAME TICKING SOUND, MY CUE THAT I COULD SHARE WITH ANYONE ABOUT TO HAVE THIS FAILURE OCCUR, WHEN I WOULD START THE CAR I NOTICED AN EXTRA "SPINNING" SOUND UNDER THE HOOD WHEN I WOULD START THE CAR. THE DEALER CONTACTED CHRYSLER, AND THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED AS IF IT HAD BEEN UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. INTERESTINGLY, THE DEALERSHIP FOUND NO INDICATION OF EXCESSIVE SLUDGE BUILDUP, WHICH APPARENTLY IS THE BASIS OF MOST COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ENGINE. I PAID ABOUT $200, AND WAS SATISFIED AT THAT POINT. I HAD A DODGE INTREPID THAT HAS HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE. WHEN I WENT ONLINE TO DO RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS, THE SAME AS I HAD. I WANT TO KNOW WHY NO-ONE HAS DONE ANYTHING IN REGARDS TO THIS PROBLEM. I ACTUALLY HAD A PART PERSON AT FIRESIDE DODGE IN MODESTO TELL ME THAT A PART I WAS BUYING WAS A KNOWN DEFECT PART AND THAT IS WHY THEY CHANGED IT BUT THEY WEREN'T PUTTING OUT A NOTICE UNTIL THEY WERE FORCED TO BECAUSE IT WAS EXPENSIVE, I PUT THE LATEST INCIDENT AS THE DATE BUT THIS IS THE THIRD TRAGIC INCIDENT WITH THIS ENGINE. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS WHEN I HAD TO HAVE ALL MY RODS REPLACED IN THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF A SLUDGE BUILD-UP IN THE ENGINE. THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS WHEN A PART CONNECTED TO MY RADIATOR BLEW...
ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS AT 55MPH ON A RURAL ROAD LATE AT NIGHT. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT CAR. TIMING BELT AND GUIDES ENG DUE TO SLUDGE BUILD UP. I HAD THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES FROM WHEN I BOUGHT IT. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND SLUDGE BUT WAS TOLD THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FROM WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 60,000.

I BOUGHT MY 2000 DODGE INTREPID IN OCTOBER OF 2000. WITHIN 2 YEARS I HAD THE INNER TIE RODS AND WEATHER STRIPPING/DOOR TRIM REPLACED. WHENEVER I WOULD TAKE MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE EVERY 3000 MILES, THE MECHANIC WOULD NOTIFY ME OF SLUDGE BUILD UP. NOW THE ENGINE IS GONE. BEYOND REPAIR WITH ONLY 94,000 MILE LEFT ON THE CAR. THIS WAS JUST AFTER I PAID TO REPLACE AN EVAPORATOR COIL THAT WAS LEAKING AND THE INNER TIE RODS FOR THE SECOND TIME. I ALSO PAID OVER $200 TO REPLACE THE WEATHER STRIPPING FOR THE SECOND TIME. I HAVE REPLACED A RADIATOR THAT WAS LEAKING AND A SHIFT CABLE THAT HAD SEIZED UP PREVENTING MY CAR FROM SHIFTING INTO GEAR. I FIGURE THOSE WERE DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT THE ENGINE IS WHAT REALLY BLOWS MY MIND WITH SUCH LOW MILES AND REGULAR MAINTANENCE. PLEASE HELP....
HAD MILD TAPPING SOUND FROM ENGINE A FEW MONTHS AGO, TOOK VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC AND THAT IS WHERE I LEARNED THE REPUTATION OF THE 2.7 LITER ENGINE. HE ADVISED THAT WE SHOULD LOOK FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE BEFORE WE BECAME THE LATEST VICTIM.
