I HAVE A 2000 MODEL DODGE INTREPID WITH 35,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT AND A BLOWN ENGINE. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS QUITE NORMAL FOR THE 2.7 LITRE V6 ENGINE. THEY ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND VERY HARD TO FIND USED BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY INCIDENTS. YOU CAN LOOK ON EBAY MOTORS RIGHT NOW AT THE DODGE INTREPIDS AND THERE ARE THREE WITH BAD MOTORS. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH ENGINE BLEW OUT. CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND WAS TO TOLD TO CONTACT NHTSA.*AK
THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON, THERE WAS STALLING AND REVVING WHILE AT IDLE. *BF *SC
THE CHECK LIGHT REMAINED ON WHILE THE ENGINE TENDED TO FREEZE UP, COULD NOT START THE VEHICLE. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY CONSUMER, AND WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
THE MOTOR IS MAKING EXTREME NOISES AND I AM SURE IT IS READY TO FAIL. I HAVE ALWAYS CHANGED THE OIL IN THE RECOMMENDED MILEAGES. I AM AFRAID IT WILL LOCK UP ON ME, AND THE MAJORITY OF MY DRIVING IS HIGHWAY. *JB
THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN THE WATER PUMP BEARINGS SHOT INTO THE OIL PAN CAUSING THE ENGINE NOT TO OPERATE. OWNER WILL NOTIFY MANUFACTURER. *JB
THE VEHICLE STALLED UNEXPECTEDLY ON THE ROAD AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART IT. THE CAUSE WAS UNDETERMINED AT THIS TIME AND MANUFACTURER WILL BE NOTIFIED BY CONSUMER. *JB
WHILE SITTING AT AN INTERSECTION VEHICLE STALLED. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO A MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. LATER THAT DAY THE PROBLEM RECURRED AND MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON ITS OWN. DRIVER TRIED TO RESTART VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
VEHICLE 2.7L ENGINE SEIZED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONSUMER HOME. THE TOW TRUCK MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TOP REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME.*AK *TC
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED ENGINE LOCKED UP. CONSUMER PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL. THE ENGINE FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE MOTOR LOCKED UP BEFORE I COULD GET OF THE ROAD. I CHANGED THE OIL BETWEEN 2500/3000 MILES ALL THE TIME SINCE I HAVE HAD THE CAR. *AK
I WAS DRIVING ALONG WHEN THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT CAME ON, I CHECKED THE OILL ,IT WAS FULL. HAD THE THE CAR TOWED TO DON JORDAN CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD BY THE MAN IN THE SERVICE DEPT THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AT A COST OF 7.000 PLUS TAX. I STILL OWE 11.000 ON A CAR THAT IS NOW SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY, WHILE I HAVE TO RENT A CAR TO TAKE MY SON TO AND FROM SCHOOL AND SHOPPING.*AK
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT 30 MPH WHEN HE HEARD A NOISE. VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED WHILE COMING TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THE ENGINE WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE ENGINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATES THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM

THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR THAT WAS TO COST $6700.00.*AK

I MAITAINED MY VEHICLE WITH ROUTINE OIL CHANGES AND SERVICES THROUGH MY FATHER, WHO IS AN ASE CERTIFIED MASTER TECHNICIAN FOR OVER 35 YEARS. I FEEL THAT DAIMLERCHRYSLER CORPORATION SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THESE DEFFECTIVE ENGINES.*AK

MY 2000 DODGE INTREPID ENGINE FAILED WITH NO WARNING. I HAD THE CAR 6 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE WARRANTY COMPANY STATES THAT IT WAS DUE TO LACK OF LUBRICATION AND THERE WAS ENGINE SLUDGE. I HAVE HAD 2 OIL CHANGES PRIOR TO THE ENGINE FAILURE. I PAID $4428 TO HAVE MY CAR REPAIRED. *AK

MY DODGE INTREPID WITH A 2.7L ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING THEN LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING SO I TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS NEGLECT AND I TOLD THEM I FOLLOW MAINTENCE SCEDULE TO A T WITH 3000 MILE OIL CHANGES AND ALL THEY TOLD ME IT WAS SLUDGED UP AND WILL NOT FIX THIS . THIS IS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN WHEN A WELL MAINTAINED CAR DIES AT 60,000 MILES . *AK

OIL LIGHT CAME ON WITHOUT ANY OTHER WARNING. STOPPED CAR TO CHECK OIL AND IT WAS FULL. CAR WOULD NOT START. CALLED DEALER AND TOLD HIM WHAT HAPPENED, THEY ASKED FOR OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS EVEN BEFORE THE SAW THE CAR. TOWED IT TO DEALER WHO CHARGED $230 TO TAKE ENGINE APART SO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY COULD COME IN TO SEE IT. THEY DENIED THE CLAIM BECAUSE OF LACK OF MAINTENANCE. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND IT HAD 21,000 MILES ON IT. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED THEY TOLD ME IT HAD SLUDGE. I PAID TO HAVE THE ENGINE CLEANED AND CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 3,000 TO 4,000 MILES MYSELF AFTER THAT. WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER TO SEE ABOUT THEM COVERING IT I WAS GREETED WITH THE PERSON TELLING ME I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN MY OIL PAN OFF TO CHECK FOR PROBLEMS HEN...

THEN ON THURSDAY I SAW ON ABC7CHICAGO.COM NEWS REPORT CALLED "THE SLUDGE REPORT" AND IT WAS MY SAME CAR WITH THE SAME MOTOR. I AM NOW FACED WITH THE TOUGHT FOR (1) LETTING THEM TAKE THE CAR AND RUINNING OUR CREDIT (2) LEAVING IT IN MY GARAGE UNTIL I CAN COME UP WITH 6000.00 TO...

ENGINE BLEW UP. $7000 TO REPAIR. MECH ADVISED CHRYSLER HAS KNOWN THIS PROBLEM SINCE DAY ONE. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO HELP. I AM NOW PAYING THE BALANCE OF A $8000 LOAN ON A CAR I CAN NOT DRIVE AND HAD TO BUY ANOTHER ONE. I WORK AND DRIVE THE ATLANTA ROADS. WHEN YOUR VEHICLE STOPS IN THESE ROADS. CONSUMER NOTICED THAT WHILE STARTING VEHICLE ENGINE WOULD NOT ENGAGE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, AND TECHNICIAN NOTICE DETERMINED THAT SLUDGE BUILT UP IN THE ENGINE, CAUSING IT TO BLOW OUT. *AK
