THE CAR IS COMPLETELY INCAPACITATED AND IT WILL TAKE OVER $3,000.00 TO FIX. I STILL HAVE PAYMENTS ON THE CAR AND THE AMOUNT TO REPAIR THE CAR IS MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH. *JB

I WAS DRIVING MY 1999 2.7 INTREPID TO THE STORE JANUARY 2004 IN THE MORNING. MY CAR STALLED GOING 45 MPH I WAS ABLE TO BOUNCE IT OFF A CURB AND BRING IT TO A STOP WITH OUT ANY MISHAPS, BUT I HAD MY 7 AND 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS IN THE CAR WITH ME AND IT SHOOK THEM UP PRETTY GOOD. HAD IT TOWED TO A GARAGE AND THEY TOLD ME THE ENGINE SEIZED AND IT WAS GOING TO COST ME 6800.00 TO FIX IT. IM LAID OFF FROM WORK WITH LITTLE INCOME COMING IN ALONG WITH A 300.00 A MONTH CAR PAYMENT ON A CAR THAT DOESNT EVEN RUN. WHY? THE THING ONLY HAS 64000 MILE ON IT CHRYSLER IS A JOKE I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT FROM THEM.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE HESITATED BEFORE ACCELERATION. THIS RESULTED IN A BLOWN MOTOR. DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM PERTAINED TO SLUDGE ACCUMULATING INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *AK THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. *NM
I HAVE A 1999 DODGE INTREPID 2.7 LITER. WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE ENGINE LOCKED UP. I LOST ALL POWER AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER THE NEXT DAY FOR OIL CHANGE. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, CONSUMER HEARD SOMETHING THAT SOUNDED LIKE METAL SCRAPPING AGAINST METAL. DEALER STATED MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO LACK OF OIL CHANGES. *AK

I HAVE A 1999 2.7L DODGE INTREPID THAT IS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED FOR POSSIBLE WARRANTY DENIAL ON AN ENGINE FAILURE. WE HAD A SENSOR REPLACED IN NOVEMBER 18 2003 ALONG WITH AN OIL CHANGE AND A TRANSMISSION CHANGE. AFTER THIS SERVICE THROUGH THE DODGE DEALERSHIP IN OUR AREA WE NOTED THAT THE OIL LIGHT WAS FLICKERING WHILST IDLING AND WHEN THE ENGINE WAS WARM. WE WERE ASSURED THAT IT WAS JUST A SENSOR ISSUE AND THEY PROMPTLY CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL A MONTH AGO TO ASSURE US THE OIL WAS STILL IN THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE BEGAN TICKING AT HIGH SPEEDS AND HAD CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. THE ENGINE HAS A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE THAT IS PREDOMINENT AS SOON AS I TURN ON THE ENGINE. IN ORDER TO NOT RISK THE SAFETY OF MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE NOW CONCLUDED THAT...
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. THIS CAUSED LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKES. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, AND MECHANIC REPLACED THE ENGINE IN FEBRUARY 2003 AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. ONE YEAR LATER, SAME ENGINE PROBLEM OCCURRED. *AK
MY 1999 DODGE INTREPID 2.7L BLEW AN ENGINE AT NORMAL EXPRESSWAY SPEEDS ON JULY 29, 2003, CAUSING AN IMMEDIATE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS LOSS OF POWER IN MID-TRAFFIC. IT ALSO RESULTED IN AN ENORMOUS REPAIR ESTIMATE OF BETWEEN $5,000 AND $7,500. A DESIGN FLAW IN THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE CAUSES AN EXCESS BUILD-UP OF ENGINE SLUDGE, WHICH RESULTS IN PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE AT ANYWHERE BETWEEN 35,000 AND 70,000 NO MATTER HOW RELIGIOUSLY YOU CHANGE THE OIL. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED AN ASTOUNDING NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE, AND ANY CALL TO ANY AUTO SALVAGE YARD IN AMERICA WILL CONFIRM WHAT I'M SAYING. EVERYBODY IN THE AUTO REPAIR INDUSTRY IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. CHECK ENGINE STARTED TO FLASH. CAR LOST POWER. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. CAR STARTED UP FOR THEM. DIDN'T FIND ANY CODES IN COMPUTER. DROVE CAR FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS BEFORE PROBLEMS STARTED AGAIN. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. TOOK TO INDEPENDENT SHOP AND GOT AN ASD RELAY PROBLEM AND TCM RELAY PROBLEM. REPLACED RELAYS. CAR RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS. PROBLEMS STARTED AGAIN. WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN ABOUT 70 MILES. AFTER THE LAST TIME IT WAS DRIVEN 20 MILES. TOWED TO DEALER. STATED THAT THERE IS A TIMING PROBLEM AND ALOT OF SLUDGE IN THE MOTOR. ESTIMATE OF $1200 TO TRY TO FIND...

UPON PRESSING THE ACCELORATOR THE ENGINE HESITATED, THEN THE OIL LIGHT FLASHED ON FOR ONE SECOND JUST BEFORE SHE HEARD A POPPING SOUND. THEN SHE LOST ALL POWER. SHE COULD NOT STEER OR BRAKE THE CAR VERY WELL AT ALL. SHE WAS GOING 65 MILES PER HOUR AND NEARLY GOT INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. SHE GOT THE CAR ONTO THE SHOULDER BUT COULD NOT START THE ENGINE. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE ENGINE WAS SEIZED AND IT WOULD COST $5,000 TO $6500 TO REPAIR. IT HAS BEEN ONLY 3000 MILES SINCE MY LAST OIL CHANGE.

TOOK TO DEALER, THEY COULD ONLY OFFER APPROXIMATELY 1- 2 GRAND, AND USE 4000.00 INCENTIVE TO HELP COVER COST, BUT STILL OUT 4 GRAND ON LOAN. CALLED CHRYSLER, AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP ME, BECAUSE I AM WAY PAST THE 56000 MARK. THIS SEEMS TO BE A FARCE, BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME MANY PEOPLE REPORTING ENGINE FAILURES ON THE DODGE 2.7L ENGINE - SAME REASONS.. SLUDGE. OFTEN FAIL WITHOUT ENOUGH WARNING TO PREVENT MAJOR FAILURE. *AK
OIL LIGHT FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS, AND MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THERE WAS SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. *AK
PURCHASED THIS 1999 DODGE INTREPID (2.7 L ENGINE) FOR SON 2 MONTHS AGO WITH 98,000 MILES. RAN PERFECTLY FOR 4000 MILES THEN IT WOULDN'T START. ONCE WE GOT THE TOP END TORN DOWN FOUND THAT ONE OF THE TIMING CHAIN GUIDES HAD DISINTEGRATED, CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO JUMP, AND WOUND UP BENDING ALL OF THE INTAKE VALVES. INSPECTION OF THE INSIDE OF THE ENGINE REVEALED AN EXTREME SLUDGE PROBLEM, ALMOST LIKE IT WAS FULL OF TAR! AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB IT APPEARS THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEMATIC ENGINE. THE PARTS GUY AT DODGE DEALER INDICATED (OFF THE RECORD) THAT THESE 2.7 ENGINES HAD PROBLEMS IN HOT SOUTHERN CLIMATES DUE TO RUNNING HOT INTERNALLY AND BURNING THE OIL. *LA
WHILE DRIVING HOME ENGINE SEIZED. ALSO, REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THE ELECTRIC WINDOWS WORKED SPORADICALLY EXCEPT FOR THE DRIVER'S WINDOW THAT DID NOT WORK AT ALL, AND THE AIR CONDITIONER HEATER FAN ONLY WORKED ON HIGH.*AK

DEALER AND CHRYSLER BOTH WILL NOT REPLACE ENGINE AS RECALL TO WHICH THERE IS CLEARLY A MASSIVE PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES.*JB
