1999 DODGE INTREPID STALL ON A DAILY BASES SOMETIMES IT WILL RESTART OTHER TIMES YOU HAVE TO WAIT 30 TO 60 MINS. IT WILL START AND DRIVE THEN YOU SHUT IT OFF IT WILL NOT RESTART FOR 30 TO 60 MINS SOMETIMES LONGER. ENGINE ALSO HAS SLUDGE BUILD UP. VEHICLE HAS 108000 MILES ON IT. IT IS THE 2.7 LITER ENGINE. AFTER READING SOME OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ISSUED. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT CAN GET SOMEONE INJURED OR WORSE. THERE IS NO NEED IN TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE YOU FIX ONE THING AND SOMETHING ELSE IS GOING TO GO WRONG. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR

I DID HAVE TO PAY THEM $102 JUST FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PLUS TWO TOW BILLS. MY CAR ONLY HAD 85,000 MILES ON IT! WHAT A RIP-OFF! I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND JUST AS I WAS GETTING ON THE BRIDGE, THE ENGINE ON MY DODGE INTREPID MALFUNCTIONED. MY HUSBAND IS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND HE KEPT THE MAINTENANCE UP ON MY VEHICLE. AFTER MY CAR SAT FOR THREE NIGHTS ON THE PARKING LOT OF THIS BUSINESS, IT WAS THEN TOWED TO THE SHOPE. IT WAS THEN I WAS INFORMED THAT I WAS NOT THE FIRST PERSON WHO HAS HAD SLUDGE BUILD UPTHIS. ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, DUE TO SLUDGE BUILD UP. MY CAR IS NOW SITTING IN MY DRIVE WAY, BECAUSE I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY 5,000 + TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED.I HAVE NO CAR TO DRIVE BACK AND FORTH TO SCHOOL. NOW I FEEL SO DISQUESTEDWHEN I THINK ABOUT THIS CAR. I THINK CHRYSLER SHOULD AT LEAST GIVE ME HALF, CONSIDERING THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM
I PURCHASED MY 1999 DODGE INTREPID A 1 1/2 AGO WITH 80,000 MILES. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE THE COOLING FANS WENT AND HAD TO REPLACE $400.00. THEN ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WENT. NOW THE ENGINE IS GONE. OIL LIGHT FLICKERING ON AND OFF, CHECK OIL LEVEL IS FINE. WENT FROM A TAPPING NOISE IN ENGINE TO THE ENGINE SOUNDING LIKE ITS GOING TO BLOW UP. CANT DRIVE PIECE OF JUNK AND STILL OWE 7,000.00 ON IT. *JB
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK @ MIDNIGHT WHEN THE HEATER STARTED TO EMIT COLD AIR. CAR SEEMED TO BE RUNNING FINE. NO NOISES HEARD, TEMP GAUGE WAS LOW. PULLED OVER TO CHECK FOR LEAKS OR ANY OTHER OBVIOUS PROBLEM, NONE APPARENT. CONTINUED TO DRIVE FOR SEVERAL MILES TO GET CLOSE TO HOME, SUDDENLY THE TEMP GAUGE WENT ALL THE WAY UP TO HOT AND THE CAR STARTED TO FILL WITH SMOKE, PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD IMMEDIATELY AND ENGINE QUIT. ON COUNTRY ROAD, HAD TO WALK TO GET HELP. HAD CAR TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP WHERE I WAS TOLD A BEARING WAS SPUN AND THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN. WHEN I ASKED FOR AN ESTIMATE TO REPAIR THE STATION MANAGER STATED IT WOULD COST OVER $5,000 TO REPAIR AND WOULD BE CHEAPER TO LOOK FOR A USED ENGINE BUT COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SAME PROBLEM WOULD NOT OCCUR. STILL OWED APPROX....
WHILE MY COUSIN HAD BORROWED THE CAR, THE CAR STALLED AND HE COULD NOT GET IT STARTED AGAIN. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND THE MECHANIC DID SAY THAT WITH THE HORRENDOUS NOISE THE CAR WAS MAKING, THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE EITHER REBUILT, OR REPLACED, BASED ON WHAT HE CALLED A ROD KNOCK. WHEN I HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC LOOK AT THE CAR, HE PROCEEDED TO SAY THE SAME THING. THIS IS A CAR THAT IN 7 YEARS OF ME OWING IT, I PUT ON LESS THAN 70,000 ON THE CAR IN THAT TIME. I HAVE ALWAYS DONE OIL CHANGES REGULARLY AND TOOK GOOD CARE OF THE CAR, TO NOW HAVE IT SITTING IN A DRIVEWAY, UNABLE TO START ! *JB
I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY ON THE WAY TO MY RESIDENCE. AS I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE BEGAN TO KNOCK LOUDLY AND IN THE MATTER SECONDS IT SEIZED AND STOPPED RUNNING. NEARLY CAUSING A COLLISION ON THE EXIT RAMP. FORTUNATELY MYSELF, MY GIRLFRIEND AND NEWBORN SON WERE NOT INJURED. *NM
MY 1999 DODGE INTREPID'S 2.7 MOTOR FAILED AFTER HEARING A LOUD TICKING FROM THE MOTOR. IT WAS LATER DIAGNOSED AS A TIMING CHAIN FAILURE FROM OIL SLUDGE BUIIDUP. THE MOTOR WAS REBUILT AT A COST OF $3,000.00 CANADIAN. I HAVE SINCE HAD INTERMITTENT OIL LIGHT FLASHING AT IDLE ROUGHLY 20,000 KM'S AFTER THE REBUILD WITHOUT INCIDENT. CURRENTLY THE CAR IS STILL IN OPERATION AND OIL LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON. THE CAR HAD 130,000KM'S AT THE TIME OF THE MOTOR FAILURE AND CURRENTLY HAS 184,000 KM'S ON IT. IT WAS CONSIDERED OUT OF WARRANTY AND NO HELP WAS OFFERED THROUGH CALLS AND LETTERS TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE CANADIAN PRESIDENT ODF DAIMLER CHRYSLER AT THE TIME ED BRUST. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A SPEED OF 55-70 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE 99 DODGE INTREPID. WHILE GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY CONTACTS VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL SHUTTING OFF COMPLETELY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHILE HEARING A CLICKING SOUND ON THE ENGINE. DRIVING TO HAVE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON MY 1999 DODGE INTREPID. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED. I HAD NO BRAKING OR STEERING CONTROL ONCE THIS HAPPENED. DEC 1, 2006 - MILEAGE: UNDER 78K - PROBLEM: IT WAS TIME FOR ROUTINE TUNE UP ON MY CAR, ONCE I POPPED THE HOOD I WENT DIRECTLY FOR THE OIL TANK/ENGINE FIRST THING. PCV VALVE NEEDED REPLACING, UPON TAKING SAID VALVE OFF I NOTICED A LOT OF HEAVY GUNK OR "SLUDGE" IF YOU WILL. PUT ON BRAND NEW PCV VALVE KIT BOUGHT FROM MOPAR AND CONTINUED ON WITH THE REST OF THE TUNE-UP. THINKING BACK TO ALL THE SLUDGE I FOUND ON THE OLD PCV VALVE I BEGAN TO REALLY WONDER AS THIS AMOUNT OF SLUDGE WAS NOT NORMAL FOR A CAR THAT'S KEPT UP WITH EXACTLY HOW THE OWNERS MANUAL DICTATES.
