WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE OIL LIGHT FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND THEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DRIVER TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB

I RECEIVED MY 1999 DODGE INTREPID DECEMBER OF 2002, THE CAR HAD ABOUT 23000 MILES ON IT ONE DAY IN OCTOBER 2004 WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK I FELT SOMETHING PUT AND I NO LONGER HAD CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE ENGINE NEVER STARTED AGAI. I HAVE ALWAYS CHANGED MY OIL REGULARLY AND AM ABLE TO PRODUCE RECEIPTS OF THIS. THE WARRANTY COMPANY WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE THE MECHANIC TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM STATING I HAD NOT PRODUCED ENOUGH RECEIPTS OF OIL CHANGES. CARMAXX FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE CAR STATES THERE WAS LITTLE OIL ON THE DIP STICK THEN STATED THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE STICK.*AK

2.7 LITER INTREPID ENGINE FAILED AT 115,000 MILES DUE TO OIL SLUDGE BUILD-UP, WHICH CAUSED A LOWER ROD BEARING FAILURE. ENGINE WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND OIL WAS CHANGED EVERY 3000-4000MI (LESS THAN THE OWNER'S MANUAL RECOMMENDATION OF 7,500). *AK

MY ENGINE SIEZED AT 57,963 MILES WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. THE CAR WAS MAINTAINED TO THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS. I WAS UNABLE TO GET ASSISTANCE FROM THE DEALER, EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY OR DIAMLER CHRYSLER.
I HAVE A 1999 DODGE INTREPID WITH THE 2.7 LITER ENGINE. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 12,000 MILES AND 36,000 MILES. IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED REGULARLY AND OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES. THE ENIGNE HAS NOW GONE OUT AGAIN. I HAVE READ ALL OF THE HORROR STORIES FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I HAVE. I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT I AM STILL PAYING FOR THAT IS TOTALLY USELESS TO ME AND CHRYSLER IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. LUCKILY MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT INJURY OR DAMAGE.*AK
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN ON THE ENGINE AT 55310 MILES FOR A COST OF $2,372.28. NOW THE OIL LIGHT IS ON AND I HAVE A KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE DO TO OIL SLUDGE . I HAVE HAD TWO MECHANICS TELL ME THAT THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE EITHER REPLACED WITH A USED ENGINE(WHICH WILL RESULT IN THE SAME PROBLEM AT A COST OF $3,000) REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A JASPER ENGINE (SUPPOSEDLY HAS ENGINE ENGINEERING PROBLEM RESOLVED AT A COST OF $6,000) OR A CRANK SHAFT AND BEARING JOB AT A COST OF $3,000 WHICH WILL STILL RESULT IN THE SAME PROBLEM DOWN THE LINE. *JB

HE SIAD IT WAS CAUSED BY A WATER-PUMP FAILURE, WHICH THREW OFF THE TIMING AND TOTALLED THE ENGINE. THE CAR HAD 59,000 MILES AND 2 PAYMENTS LEFT AND WAS NOW BASICALLY WORTHLESS. THE DEALERSHIP GOT CHRYSLER TO REDUCE THE BILL BY ABOUT 50% AND I HAD TO PAY $4000 FOR A NEW ENGINE. AFTER PICKING IT UP, THE A/C DOES NOT WORK. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS 'UNRELATED" AND WILL COST $1100. WITHOUT WARNING OUR 1999 CHRYSLER INTREPID WAS RENDERED UNDRIVEABLE DUE TO WHAT WAS LATER "DIAGNOSED" AS TIMIING CHAIN FAILURE". REPAIR TO COST APPROXIMATELY 2000.00. *NM
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ENGINE BLEW OUT. DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER OF THE PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLANKING NOISE WHILE THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. *AK SLUDGE BUILD UP PROBLEM. *SC *JB
IN JULY 2002 THE ENGINE DIED ON MY WIFE WHILE GOING TO WORK. WE WERE TOLD TO TOW IT TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD US IT WAS ENGINE BURNED UP DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE. I DISAGREED FROM THE START. I DID MY OWN WORK TO SAVE MONEY. THE CAR SAT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS FOR US TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY TO FIX IT. WE STILL OWED 9000 ON IT AS WELL. WE FINALLY GOT A LOAN ADDED TO OUR EXISTING CAR LOAN TO GET IT REPLACED. WHICH WAS 6500$.THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT WAS MODIFIED BY THE SALVAGE YARD TO ELIMINATE THE "SLUDGE " PROBLEM THAT APPARENTLY ATTRIBUTED TO THIS 2.7 LITER CHRYSLER ENGINE. WE HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT WE ARE ONLY ONE OF MANY TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER IS NOT ADMITTING TO THE FACT THAT THEIR OIL CIRCULATION IS TERRIBLE AND IT FRIES ENGINES BIG TIME....
WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ENGINE BLEW OUT. CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.
MY 1999 DODGE INTREPID WITH THE 2.7 LITER V6 ENGINE LOCKED UP AND SIEZED ON ME WITHOUT WARNING WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. I WAS IN THE FAR LEFT HAND LANE ON A 4 LANE STRETCH OF THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO MANUEVER MY DEAD VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT HAND SHOULDER WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES, SINCE THE CAR DIED COMPLETELY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT NO ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES.*AK
