05JAN and 07JAN 2023, similar instances of significant vehicle systems malfunctioning which affected operability/safety. Both times, the vehicle operated without issue earlier in the day. Occurred at 11:30pm on 05JAN2023 while being driven and at 5:30pm on 07JAN2023 upon starting the van. On 07JAN, the van had difficulty starting when the start button was pressed. After more attempts to start, it eventually did. Both times the dashboard had multiple warnings: Check Engine, Stability Control, Airbag Warning, and Electric Park Brake Trouble. Worded messages also displayed regarding transmission and gear positions trouble. While operating, the "D" above the digital speedometer would regularly change to "--" and back to "D," accompanied by an audible tone. The red "BRAKE" light would quickly blink once every 2-3 minutes. Van would accelerated very slowly from low speeds or stopped position, would jolt forward or back aggressively, and could not overcome a moderate grade incline from...
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that two weeks after purchasing the vehicle new, the vehicle would jerk while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal. The RPM’s was stuck on 2,000 RPM. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic test was completed. The contact did not recall whether the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was then taking to an independent mechanic several times where unknown repairs were completed; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local Pep Boys where it was diagnosed with evaporative emission system failure. Additionally, the contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH and coming to a complete stop, the engine was making a loud banging sound before the vehicle shut off. The electronic throttle control...
Transmission slips while driving
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lunged forward, nearly causing a collision with the Pull Over message displayed and the Auto Start/Stop warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer determined that the transmission was faulty and replaced the electrical and main batteries; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000. The contact stated that there was no guarantee that the dealership was going to fix all of the issues. The vehicle has since been sold and traded in.
Engine cylinder 3 misfire. ERROR CODE P303. dealer states cylinder 3 is warped , and will need new engine block. engine only has 49000 miles on it. all maintenance has been performed routinely. Many other 2017 chrysler pacificas have had this issue, and they are reported in the chrysler forums, ultimately needing a new engine at such a young age. NHTSA needs to compel chrysler to do a recall for this issue. A new engine at 50000 miles is ridiculous.
Transmission stalls, doesn’t change from park to, reverse neutral to drive correctly. If I put my vehicle into drive it will go backwards and vise versa not always but a lot and then al a sudden it will jerk and switch to correct gear. It doesn’t accelerate correctly.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power however, the engine was still running. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to pull over on the side of the road and waited for the vehicle to cool down. The contact was able to shut down and restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
Transmission jerks or shudders when pressing accelerator. Has almost caused several accidents.
'Engine failure and needs replacement of head gasket. Never overheated. Also excessive "bucking" feels and sounds like you are being rear ended. Causes car to bang and lunge forward. Was repaired once before , dealer stated it was a software issue. Problem continues and gives you back pain and wiplash type sensation as it is a very abrupt and strong occurance. Now engine has failed and needs head gasket repaired for over $3000.
The new auxiliary battery is not working properly which is causing the start/stop component to not work and the light is illuminated on the dash. Also the car has issues with the Torque Converter Clutch and the crank shaft sensor which disrupts the vehicles performance. The vehicle slows down when trying to accelerate and then speeds back up when the transmission realizes it needs to shift gears. The car then jolts roughly after the gear shift while driving. Sometimes car will not start because the auxiliary battery does not have enough power. Also after shutting car off there will be soft banging noises coming from the middle of the dashboard which lasts for a few minutes.
Since April 2018 the engine start / stop warning light has been illuminated about 80% of the time despite multiple repair attempts by the dealerships. The vehicle has been brought to the Chrylser dealerships multiple times for an ongoing, intermittent issue in which when attempting to accelerate, the vehicle has rough, delayed shifts and appears to temporarily stall and then jolts forward while your foot is steady on the gas pedal. This issue is getting worse to the point that I'm afraid to drive it. Furthermore, at interstate speeds the transmission will not shift gears sometimes. This causes the van to slow down rapidly especially on hills. This has almost caused accidents when I need to accelerate quickly when entering the highway or merging. It's very slow to accelerate and you have to press the pedal hard, then finally catches up and does a rough jolt. This can happen at...
Vehicle has intermittent shifting issues. During shifting it may stall/hesitate in shifting to the next gear. During shifting it may slam/hardshift into the next gear. The hesitation in shifting causes a lengthy pause in acceleration and could cause an accident when crossing lanes of moving traffic. The hard shift could cause the vehicle's driver to be startled and react in a way leading to an accident or it can cause car to lunge forward faster than expected causing an accident. The issue is intermittent. There are no warning lamps.
At low speeds when shifting into 2nd gear the car slips, rpm's raise and then it suddenly and aggressively jerks into 2nd gear. If the start and stop feature is enabled and you are in a situation where the feature is engaging and disengaging like traffic then after a few of the jerks into 2nd gear it seems the PCM will get discombobulated and display a P0732 error.
My wife pulled out into traffic and the van wouldn't move when accelerater petal was pushed. After pushing it to the floor 3 time it finally began to move.
At low speed, the vehicle will suddenly loose power to the wheels, the engine will then race (causing one to back of the accelerator) and then there is a sudden jerk forward as the powertrain appears to re-engage and normal driving returns. The jerk almost feels like the vehicle has been hit as the driver and passengers' bodies are flung forward. Over the last three years, this problem has occurred at least monthly. When reported to the dealer no diagnostic fault information was found. We are aware of a law suit involving this model vehicle and its crankcase sensor. To our knowledge, our crankcase sensor has not been replaced. Our concern is that the sudden loss of power (and the driver's automatic backing off of the acceleration) could case a vehicle behind us to run into us as the vehicle slows without braking. The power loss often occurs as the...
The vehicle is experiencing rough, late shifts when pressing the gas. The vehicle frequently lunges forward while your foot is steady on the gas pedal, feeling as if you have been hit from behind. It has 36,000 miles on it.
I have noticed for a while off and on that the transmission will jolt when driving. Feels like a hard shifting. It is getting worst to the point that I'm afraid to drive it as feel it may stall. Going up gradual incline have to press hard to get speed up. This can happen at any speed. In town normally driving 35-45 mph. My VIN shows there has been no recalls but this appears to be a known issue via complaints I have sent. Is there a recall? Would dealership know about this issue [XXX]? Is it safe to drive? I have not contacted the dealership yet. Thanks, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
2017 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L First, multiple warning messages started pop up randomly with alarm sound. The speedometer started shaking. The shift gear was unable to change. The engine was unable to start at the parking lot. After dealer mechanic at Envision CDJR West Covina in California inspected, there was no log in obd2 record and they said that it seems communication was failed and returned the car without fixing. A month later, it started again and the engine had completely shut off at the middle of intersection. Called AAA and took the car to the same dealer. They said this time that the electric harness was short and the entire harness needs to be replaced with the latest superseded part which cost $1500. 2 weeks later, the same issue start again. Nothing had been fixed and the car will be towed to the dealer to inspect it tomorrow. I'm...
The engine overheated due to a coolant leak and faulty head gaskets that need replaced at 62k miles. A related cyclinder 4 misfire has been occurring since 58k miles. Chrysler refuses to cover the repair under the 60k Powertrain warranty and does not acknowledge the many reports of head gaskets failing between 50-80k miles.
While driving, the motor began to vibrate and lose power as if not firing on all cylinders, and acted as if it was going to stall in the lane of travel, causing me to have to pull off to the shoulder abruptly, striking a mailbox. The vehicle does not display any trouble lights or show any error codes on diagnostic equipment at an independent garage. Vehicle idles roughly.
Power steering sticks intermittently causing the vehicle to remain in a state of turn, locks up. The steering wheel must be forced back out of the turn, causing an unpredictable situation when moving back to straight. This is a very dangerous situation to the point where I will not allow my younger drivers to operate the vehicle.
Started the van up, and when I tried to turn the shift knob, it was locked in place, and would not turn, van remained in Park. The center display (where the speedometer is) said "shifter service." I turned it off, opened the door, closed the door, and started it up again. Momentarily displayed the message again, but this time I was unable to put it into gear. I headed straight to the dealer. Turned out to be failure of the shifter module. it has been in the shop 5 times.
The 2017 Pacifica will sometimes have a lack of power when trying to accelerate, and/or will jerk or shutter. Other times, mainly when the engine is warm, it will shutter and die when starting the engine. Sometimes it will take two or three restart attempts for the engine to remain running. In one instance in slow moving stop and go traffic the vehicle stuttered and then accelerated toward the car in front and I had to slam on the brakes to prevent a collision. The vehicle has been back at the dealer multiple times and they claim there are not any codes they can use to diagnose the problem. Even when the engine dies it does not cause the check engine light to come on. When they scan the codes they usually find P0171 and P0174, but they say the codes are not active, only stored. I am told the...
Vehicle was misfiring, took it to the mechanic said it was the 3rd cylinder. Had that replaced, but the vehicle continued to have problems. It lost power while driving but I was able to maneuver it off the road. Took it back to the mechanic where he stated the head gasket had busted. There was no sign or indication of the vehicle overheating or anything prior to all of this.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power while making turns. The failure nearly caused a collision. The vehicle was able to restart and was taken to the dealer; however, no error codes were retrieved. The dealer reset the transmission. The contact stated that it was a recurring failure for five years; however, the dealers were unable to repair the vehicle due to no error codes being retrieved. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
Issue started June 25, 2022. Initially, the shift knob would intermittently lock in park while the engine was running and foot on the brake, unable to shift out of park. Eventually problem cleared itself. Was advised by local auto parts store to replace aux battery and issue should clear. I replaced the auxiliary battery myself the dealership installed the main battery on July 6. Dealership was unable to diagnose. No issues for about 1 week. Problem started again. Check engine light came on along with Service Shift Sensor error message. We made an appointment for the dealership and returned with it on July 19 and told them we needed it back by July 21 end of day. We got the car on July 21. Dealership was unable to service. On July 22, we pulled into parking lot and all systems and vehicle shut down. Multiple error messages. Finally got the...
While my wife was driving on the highway she heard a loud pop in the van. the cv axles pulled away from the boots. and the transmission failed. Two issues that happened at the same time. the van has a digital dial to select gears and she could not reengaged the park and stop the vehicle and also could not shut the van off. the van is a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica limited with 48,000 miles on it. the dealer claimed it was due to the driving as they have found dirt around the cv joint however the dealer sold us a protective liner for the under body and i purchased it because we live on a dirt road. we believe these are 3 product liability concerns that need to be addressed.
When turning around longer corners on the highway, the steering wheel jerks and I have to yank it free. The steering column was replaced and it did not help. Now they want to try replacing the struts. The van also jerks, stalls, catches a gear and bangs at different times. Most of the time this occurs from a full stop turning into a lane. When it stalls, it puts myself and children in danger if another car doesn't slow.
6-8-22 Driving roughly 15 MPH through town square and screen said "shift to P" could not steer and vehicle shut off. No other warning lights or messages were displayed. Has not had any precious similar issues. I put it in park, turn the vehicle off and restarted it. Started fine.
The vehicle shut off while driving at a slow speed, 10 - 15 mph. Lost complete power to vehicle as we where making our way through an intersection, it was very difficult to steer and maneuver. We made it across but only to put those behind me at risk. Panicked, I had not realized that on screen a message appeared on the instrument cluster, Put in Park and Start. The vehicle started right up and we were moving again. For more than 2 years we have been dealing with intermittent hard shifting and the dealer, because they are not able to replicate they say they can't diagnose to be able to fix. I don't know if it is related or not but I thought I mention it since its a common customer complaint in the Pacifica Forums. We've learned to live with hard shifting can't really afford to buy a...
Since I purchased this vehicle used less than a year ago, I have had an issue with rough shifting or the vehicle feeling like it loses power then lurches when it finally shifts. Now over the past couple months I have had it in the shop 4 times, the 4th time it's at a Chrysler dealership. Check engine light comes on and is blinking, car is shaking and knocking terribly. the shaking does subside after you drive a minute and the engine warms up but the problem has progressively gotten worse each time the light comes back on as I do have to continue driving it. Now the dealership states there is condensation in the cylinder, indicated either a blown head gasket or a warped cylinder head but there is no way to know without tearing the whole engine out of the car and tearing it apart. I'm also told...
I have not gotten into an accident. I have noticed for a long time my van transmission seems to have problems shifting. I will be starting to accelerate, and when i reCh speeds between 25-55 it often feels like I have no power (more often with time) I can hear the van "revving" bur not increasing speed at the rate it should be. Then all of a sudden the transmission feels like it "catches" and it lurches forward. Making it feel like the van us going to literally fall apart, or have the enginefall out. It is a very scary!! And it is getting worse even though when this happens I have started to take my foot off the gas because it I feel something terrible will happen. However taking my foot off the gas, especially when merging is extremely dangerous (people are so agressive driving these days) and I...
14 mph, the engine revved and the vehicle jerked. The contact stated that he slammed on the brake pedal to prevent a collision. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions. The dealer informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The contact stated that upon investigating, he determined that the failure was related to the transmission
Check engine light appeared on my control panel of my 2017 Pacifica on 3/7/2022. I took my vehicle to Tires Plus to have it fixed. The code that the computer was giving was P000B. It was in the shop for 3 days, they checked and tested all sensors and finally determined that it was R/R CAM PHASER SYL and 0504778AD Timing Solenoid. New parts were installed on 3/12/2022 at $125. I returned on 3/17/2022 after the check engine light came back on, the technicians thought it was a issue with the reset of the check engine light. On 3/19/2022 I returned yet again for the check engine light. Tires Plus was unable to determine what the problem and recommended that I take it to the dealer. On 3/24/2022 I took my vehicle to the dealer for the same issue. They charged my $340 to reprogram and clean the cam shaft...
Around 35,000 miles - MIL light came on showing DTC P000D (Camshaft Position Slow Response Bank 2). Followed by rough up/down shifts, lack of power on acceleration, lack of downshifting as expecting, and rough idle at low speeds. Code self cleared and MIL disappeared. Engine oil checked and changed. Code came back/self cleared until vehicle was taken to dealer at 47,317 miles. Below service was performed - included checking the camshaft - sensors and replacing the PCM under warranty. Now at 52,000 miles and six months later - DTC P000D, rough shifts, lack of acceleration and rough idle have come back. Dealer does not have any availability until 4/23 - however an appointment has been made. DTC comes and clears. But rough shifts persist. 08-24-2021 -47,317 Scheduled Maintenance Vehicle Inspection(S) Check Battery Inspect Brake System Tires Good - Green Diagnostic System Test Cam Shaft Rental Sublet Lube/Oil/Filter Fuel System Service
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving below 20 MPH, the engine revved and the vehicle jerked. The contact stated that he slammed on the brake pedal to prevent a collision. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions. The dealer informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The contact stated that upon investigating, he determined that the failure was related to the transmission. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.
When accelerating slowly from a dead stop, the transmission will sometimes hesitate/ pause to shift and then shift with a hard bang. Most often this happens while accelerating in the 10-20 mph range but will sometimes happen while in the 20-30 mph range. It only happens if accelerating very slow. Quicker acceralation-no problems.
The transmissions in these vans have a serious problem. I have done research in the Pacifica forums and found many users are experiencing issues with the transmissions. My particular issues are: 1. Sometimes the vehicle jerks between lower gears especially when starting. The danger in this is when trying to go from a stop the vehicle will hesitate and then jerk extremely hard. It's startling and also dangerous when not expecting it. 2. At interstate speeds the transmission will not shift gears sometimes. This causes the van to slow down rapidly especially on hills. The dealership has looked at my particular van multiple times and they have "reprogrammed" the transmission multiple times but the problems still exist.
Hard shift when down shifting at lower speed that causes intense jerk of vehicle.
When pulling into traffic from a stop the transmission seems to try and go into third gear then drops back into second gear. This happens randomly but the result is that the car stops for a few seconds after pulling into traffic. I have complained about this problem to the dealer from the time of purchase. They have done extensive work on the transmission. As the car has aged the problem has become progressively worse. The dealer is now telling me that Chrysler knows the transmission has a problem but it is not endangering the public. The problem is random but we have to be very careful when pulling into traffic because we never know when the car will hesitate and/or stop after pulling into traffic. The problem has occurred randomly since purchase. The date entered below is the date of the last occurance.
Vehicle hard shifts, and occasionally loses all driver power input while driving. The loss of power last occurred during a left-hand turn across traffic, when the car suddenly stopped accelerating through the intersection with oncoming traffic and coasted through, finally regaining power after crossing the street. Vehicle was taken to dealership, and dealer verified this is a known issue. Dealer stated there is an updated software package which addresses this issue, and it is not covered under my 100k mile CPO warranty.
Very hard shift of automatic transmission at slow speed from stop at about 15 MPH. Strong jerking motion poses dangerous pause in acceleration and control of ability to steer.
Delayed engagement and hard shifting when driving in lore stopped. Especially noticeable when driving in there city, stop and go traffic.
The vehicle will hard shift after a stop at a stop sign/stop light. Once you have started going, it's like the transmission is playing catch up and not responding to the gas pedal being pushed and the rpms going up, and once it catches up, the vehicle jerks forward as the transmission catches in the gear and it feels like you're being rear ended in a pretty hard accident.
We were about to turn left onto a busy highway. Pulled into traffic and vehicle stalled with 2 adults and 4 children in the car. While stuck in the middle of the high way with oncoming traffic from both sides we started honking the horn and waving traffic to stop. Husband noticed a blinking “D” light on the shifter knob and an alert on the dash that read something like “shift to park”. Due to the incline of the road we rolled backwards off the highway. We luckily were not hit by oncoming traffic but completely terrified by the situation. Had that highway been as busy as it usually is we would be dead. Shifted back to park. Was then able to drive vehicle the half mile home. Brought vehicle into dealership where after 2 weeks they were unable to to recreate issue and found nothing wrong. Stalling with no...
While traveling on a dry highway, with good tires/new tires, and decelerating from 45 mph and approaching a red light, and a moderate, but firm pressure on the brake to bring the van to a full stop, the speed decreased to 15 mph, with the tachometer stable at 800 rpm and then to 10 mph, with both hands on the wheel, left foot on the dead pedal, and right foot on the middle of the brake pedal. As the speedometer made the transition at 10 MPH, the tachometer surged to 1500 RPM and then to 3000 in under 3 seconds, which cause me to initiate an emergency action drill of stabbing the brake pedal hard three times and rotating the transmission control to the lowest gear. The transmission refused to shift lower, and the control of the vehicle turned on oa wrestling match and the tachometer surged from 1500 RPM,...
I bought my 2017 Chrysler Pacifica in 2018, and it would randomly jump gears while accelerating or stay in a higher gear. The dealership could not duplicate the problem for months. In May 2019, it threw a check engine light code of P0732. This was then repaired at a Chrysler dealer. It started doing that same thing again in January 2021. In September 2021, it threw the same check engine light code of P0732.
1) Steering - when driving, the steering wheel almost feels “stuck” when turning and going at least 40mph. It feels like it has to be “jerked” back to straighten it out causing concern for over correction. Took to Chrysler dealership and was told they could find nothing wrong but did an update on my power steering. Seems to be happening more often. 2. Power train - while taking off from a stopped position or driving slowly (ie: parking lot) the vehicle shifts so hard it feels like you’ve been rear ended. Again Chrysler dealership could find nothing wrong but this also happens frequently.
VEHICLE MOTOR OR TRANSMISSION LURCHES AND STALLS, WON'T STAY IN GEAR, STOPS FOR NO REASON IN TRAFFIC, SLAMS INTO GEAR. BUT WON'T ACCELERATE. ARRIGO CHRYLSER DEALERSHIP IN FORT PIERCE FLORIDA STATED THEY REPAIRED ISSUE WITH COMPUTER RESET OR REPROGRAMMING BUT DID NOT RESOLVE. CONTINUES TO STALL AND LURCH AND LOSE POWER.
Everytime I accelerate the car is slow to pick up speed and jumps and jerks like the transmission can't shift gears. It has also stalled out in the middle of intersection as if it couldn't get into gear. Took to dealer reset transmission but it still isn't right. Taking to another dealer this seems to be a problem with several owners the car only has 32k and I bought a year ago never had this much issue with past cars
