No power steering at low speed . Makes it dangerous to turn sharp corners. Almost impossible to park in a parking spot if there’s other vehicles.so I park way out away from vehicles . I have had two power steering pumps and lines replaced . And still have the same issue. .
I have now been told that my rack and pinion is leaking by 3-4 different mechanics. In doing a google search, I see that through various years of the chevy traverse, the rack and pinion leaking and needing to be replaced at a high cost (and also being a big safety risk to not replace) is a very common issue in the traverse.
Power steering is going out. Will only turn when rmps are up. Just bought car a few months ago
This vehicle is dangerous. Looks great on the outside but horrible on the inside under the hood! Since my son bought one for me it’s had problems with engine revving and not shifting gears, and air conditioner continually going out even after repairs, and power steering leaks. I kept taking it to repair and oddly no technician anywhere could help! Read the reviews and watch the youtubes! This vehicle (all years) should be stripped from the market and considered under lemon law no matter the age! The culmination of my problems happened when leaving town, entering highway and accelerating and clicking cruise control! Immediately the car revved past 7 rpms and out of control! I had all I could do to stop it - then it died completely! The tow truck driver was also in an unsafe situation with many cars passing at high speed when he had to put...
Two items: Item 1. Transmission switched to neutral by itself traveling at 65 mph. At about 5-6 seconds after the incident, transmission resumed with no further problem. This has happened 3 times. First time was mid 2022. Second and third times happened in late 2022. Appeared to be an intermittent problem. Took to dealership. It happened to a mechanic who drove the vehicle. Dealership thought they fixed the problem. A dealership mechanic, while addressing item number 2 below in 3rd week of April 2023, experienced the motor going into neutral. They had replaced the ignition switch to possibly fix item #2, and were test driving the car, when during the test drives, the motor went into neutral by itself two separate test drives. Item 2. While driving at highway speeds on a freeway in mid February 2023, the engine stopped (speedometer and RPM gauges went to zero). The whole dashboard...
I was driving at approximately 30mph on a road the traction control/stability track light came on and my car lost almost all power. it went from 30 to about 5mph. thankfully i was on a slower road and close to my house so I was able to get home. If I would have been on a highway I could have been killed. i quick google search showed thousands of other complaints with the same problem, my question is why is nothing being done. are they waiting for a certain number of deaths??
The steering on vehicle is intermittently nearly impossible to turn. GM has a service bulletin that addresses problem and extends warranty. My vehicle is beyond the warranty time but still under the mileage. I called GM and the will not offer any assistance of warranty or cost share. This should be a recall as it’s a serious safety issue!! There’s likely been injuries and deaths because of this very problem. You never know when it may act up and when it does it’s extremely dangerous. GM customer service reference # 9-6768504646. Let me know if there’s something you can do to help and/or if not. Thanks
MY HATCH/LIFTGATE DOESN'T STAY OPEN IT SHUTS AS SOON AS YOU LET GO. EVEN WHEN YOU USE THE AUTO LIFTGATE BUTTON IT DOES THE SAME THING IT OPENS AND THEN JUST SHUTS NOW THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAVE TWO LITTLE BOYS. ALSO MY POWER STEERING PUMP IS NOT RUNNING.
I GOT A BRAND NEW POWER STEERING PUMP FOR THE MECHANIC TO CHANGE HE TOLD ME HE WOULD CHANGE IT AND STOP THE LEAK BECAUSE MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON ME. HOWEVER I WAS CALLED THE FIRST TIME AND WAS TOLD THE PART WAS DISINFECTING THEN MADE ME RETURN THE PART FOR A NEW PART BECAUSE HE SAID IT WAS STILL LEAKING. DIFFICULT TO TURN AT SLOW SPEEDS. WHILE I HAD IT AT DEALER FOR OTHER RECALL ISSUES I WAS TOLD THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST AS IT WAS NOT A RECALL.I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION. I ASKED IF THAT WERE THE CASE WHY GM DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL FOR IT.A CAR THAT WAS ONLY 3 YRS. OLD AND UNDER 60,000MI. WHEN GOING AT LOW SPEEDS AND/OR DLE THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY GOES OUT. THIS MAKES TURNS AND PARKING VERY DANGEROUS. THE FLUID IS FULL AND THERE IS NO NOISE FROM THE POWER STEERING ITSELF. AT HIGHER SPEEDS IT OPERATES NORMALLY. WHEN I FIRST NOTICED IT WE WERE ON VACATION HAD BEEN DRIVING APPROX 6 HOURS AT ABOUT 70MPH. SUMMER OF 2019 WHILE DRIVING ON FLAT CITY ROAD, POWER STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN & CONTROL CURVES AND, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. PARKED THE CAR UNTIL ABLE TO REPAIR. MECHANIC REPAIRED POWER STEERING MODULE CAR SEEMED OK. AFTER ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT & POWER STEERING PROBLEMS AGAIN , NOW ENGINE POWER REDUCED WHILE DRIVING W/STABILITRAK WARNING & BACK UP CAM SOMETIMES WORKS. WHLE DRIVING , HARD TO TURN ON CURVES, CORNERS AND AT APPROPRIATE POSTED SPEEDS BC ENGINE SLOWS ON ITS OWN AND WONT GIVE ENOUGH POWER FOR FLATS OR HILLS. HEATING TAKES MUCH LONGER TO WARM CABIN AND WINDOW BUTTON SOMETIMES WONT WORK.

WAS TOLD BY GM SERVICE CENTER THAT THE TIMING CHAIN FELL OFF/MECHANICAL FAILURE DUE TO SKIPPING. OTHER COMPONENTS DAMAGED AND ALL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. JUST BOUGHT 2010 TRAVERSE W/204XXX MILES. POWER STEERING PUMP STARTED LEAKING AT 205XXX. VEHICLE WAS OPERATING FINE. NO LEAKS, NO NOISES OR VIBRATIONS OR ANYTHING. DRIVE 15 MILES FROM HOME 1 DAY AND AFTER EXITING HIGHWAY, I NOTICED STIFF STEERING AND WHINING/GROANING WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL. PROBLEM CAME ON SO QUICKLY. VEHICLE DIDN'T WANT TO TURN AND ALMOST WENT INTO THE DITCH WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER AND CHECKED UNDER HOOD AND UNDER VEHICLE AND NOTICED I WAS SUDDENLY LEAKING STEERING FLUID VERY QUICKLY FROM PUMP. TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD I HAVE A BAD STEERING PUMP. THEY RECOMMENDED I REPORT THIS ISSUE AS THEY NOTICED THAT THIS PUMP HAD BEEN REPLACED BEFORE AND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY ISSUES RELATING TO MY MODEL YEAR AND SIMILAR MODELS REGARDING FAULTY STEERING SYSTEMS. I HAVE ANTIFREEZE IN THE ENGINE IT HAS BEEN LEAKING FLUID. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THE ANTIFREEZE IS IN THE ENGINE AND I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. I ALSO PUT A POWER STEERING PUMP IN BECAUSE THE CAR WAS HAVING ISSUES TURNING TWO YEARS INTO ME HAVING THE SUV. I BOUGHT THE SUV IN 2015. IT HAS BEEN INE ISSUE AFTER ANOTHER.

2010 CHEVY TRAVERSE LOST POWER STEERING WHILE BEING DRIVEN BY SON. INITIAL FAILURE OCCURRED AT STREET SPEEDS. THE CAR COULD BE STEERED WITHOUT POWER BUT IT WAS DIFFICULT AT LOW SPEEDS. DEALER WAS INFORMED OF SOUNDS WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 100,000 MILES BUT NOTHING WAS DONE. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 133,000 MILES (2-3 YEARS AFTER SOUNDS REPORTED TO DEALER).
THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY THINGS WRONG WITH CAR SINCE WE BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 2010 FROM THE COMPLETE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACED TO 3 ENTIRE BRAKES REPLACED, TO TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, TO TRACKTION STILBILITY CONTROL LIGHTS FAILING, TO POWER STEERING PUMP , TO FAULTY CONTROL BOX ISSUES, REPLACEMENT OF WINDOW SHIELD WIPER MOTOR, AIR CONDITIONING/HEATING MODULE. MOST OF THIS UNDER WARRANITY OR NOT COVERED STILL AT ALL IN FIRST 4 YEARS OF OWNING THIS CAR. ITS LITERALLY A PILE OF JUNK. SO MANY SAFETY ISSUES THAT GM WONT LIST AS A RECALL. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED BUT STILL FAIL DO ANYTHING. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEARLER IN WALDORF MARYLAND WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP MY CAR I NOTICED THE FRONT END WAS DOWN, I DROVE LIKE I WAS ON A TRACTOR. IT WAS NOT THIS WAY WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. I HAVE 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE THAT CAN VOUCH FOR THIS. THE DEALER SHIP NOR GM WILL GIVE ME AN ANSWER. THE ASST SER MGT SAID IF THE MECHANIC FAILED TO SAY SOMETHING HE APOLOGIZED . CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISPLAYS THEN ENGINE POWER REDUCED WARNING COMES ON, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLOW AT ANY TIME (VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ON THE FREEWAY). THE THROTTLE NEEDLE AND CAR SHAKES AND CAR WILL CUT OFF AND STALL TO TURN ON AGAIN.

POWER STEERING AND TIMING CHAIN FAILED IN VEHICLE AT 74K MILES. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUES FROM OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE. GENERAL MOTORS HAS NOT ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE WHICH HAS BEEN WIDELY REPORTED. WHILE IN MOTION ON NOVEMBER 4, 2017, OUR VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER EVENTUALLY SHUTTING OFF. UPON TRYING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WE HEARD A GRINDING SOUND. WE IMMEDIATELY PUSHED THE VEHICLE TO A NEAR BY REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP. UPON THEIR EVALUATION IT WAS DETERMINED THE TIMING CHAIN WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. EVERYTIME WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED, IT MAKES A GRINDING NOISE. IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE. EVEN WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS BARELY TURNED.

WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY VEHICLE LOOKED AT IN ROUTE HOME, AND WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND THE WHEEL (PULLEY) MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT TO WAIT BECAUSE THEY HAVE OVER 80 2010 TRAVERSE OWNERS WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM AND GM IS AWARE OF THIS SO LETS HOPE SOON THIS WILL BE RECALLED TO HAVE FIXED AT NO COST TO ME. THE STEERING RACK ON THIS VEHICLE WENT MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE IN MANY OF THESE VEHICLES OF THIS YEAR. PRIOR YEARS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT AS OF YET THE 2010 HAS NOT. THEY REPLACED MY STEERING PUMP AND TOLD ME THE RACK WAS GONE AND WOULD BE 1700 TO REPLACE. THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN AS IT IS UNSAFE. THE TIMING CHAIN IS ALSO GONE WHICH IS ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL THAT CHEVROLET IS NOT DEALING WITH. AT LOW SPEEDS TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND IS DIFFICULT TO TURN. CANNOT ALWAYS MAKE A TURN AS EXPECTED AND MUST MAKE WIDE TURN INTO ON-COMING TRAFFIC BUT USUALLY ABLE TO STOP IN TIME. HAPPENS RANDOMLY. HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR @ 1 YEAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING LOW SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PHILLIPS CHEVROLET (9700 W LINCOLN HWY, FRANKFORT, IL 60423 (815) 469-2323) FOR A ROUTINE SERVICE CHECK. THE TECHNICIAN DID NOT LOCATE ANY DIAGNOSTIC CODES AND THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. POWER STEERING FAILS WITHOUT WARNING WHEN MAKING TURNS, PARTICULARLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THEN AS QUICKLY AS IT FAILS, IT WILL RETURN AGAIN. THE CAR NOW HAS 120,000 MILES ON IT, BUT THIS ISSUE STARTED WHEN IT ONLY HAD 50,000 MILES ON IT, AND WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTEE. 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS INCLUDING THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE SAID THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AS THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS WORKING PROPERLY AND THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR IS PROPERLY FILLED. THE DEALER ACTUALLY TOLD US 'IT'S JUST TIME FOR A NEW CAR GUYS.' WE HAVE SPOKEN IN PERSON TO TWO OTHER OWNERS OF TRAVERSES AND THEY DESCRIBE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM.
HAVING PROBLEM WITH MY STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2010 TRAVERSE. EVERY TIME I TURN ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M TRYING TO PARK THE STEERING WHEEL IS VERY HARD TO TURN LIKE IF THE VEHICLE HAD NO STEERING FLUID. IT'S PROBLEM THAT LOTS OF OWNER WITH THE SAME MODEL HAVE AND I THINK GM SHOULD MAKE THIS A RECALL.
THE PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE IS LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHEN DRIVING AT LOW TO SPEED ESPECIALY WHEN TURNING IN EITHER DIRECTION. I STARTED HAVING THIS PROBLEM AT AROUND 80 K MILES AND ITS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. NOW IT DOES THIS WHEN NOT DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHACED THIS VEHICLE., JBA CHEVROLET IN GLEN BURNIE , MD. I WAS TOLD THAT CHEVROLET WAS NOT COVEING THE COST OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP OR THE RACK AND PINION EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF TRAVESE OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM . THIS IS TRUELY A SAFETY ISSUE , NOT KNOWING WHEN YOU COULD LOSE THE ABILITY TO STEER .!!!! AND IN MY CASE AT ANY SPEED.
POWER STEERING STIFFENS WHEN PARKING OR GOING AROUND CURBS AT LOW SPEEDS. ALMOST HIT VEHICLES IN A PARKING GARAGE CAUSED BY THIS ISSUE. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE THE TRAVERSE HAD 52K MILES.
AT SLOW SPEED ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE STEERING GET SO STIFF YOU NEED TWO HAND TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. MOST TIME NOTICE THE PROBLEM AT 5-10 MPH. TURNING BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT INTO A PARKING SPACE OR FROM A STOP TO TURN ONTO A STREET.
CAR STEERING FAILURE AT STOPPED OR LOW SPEED (10 MPH) TURNS. NO ISSUE WITH TURN WHILE AT HIGH OR CRUISING SPEEDS. OCCURS ON BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS.
UNDER 35MPH, THE STEERING GETS VERY DIFFICULT, MAKING THE CAR VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. IT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY, IN PARKING LOTS, EXITING AND ENTERING LOTS. AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN, UNTIL YOU ARE MID-TURN, CAUSING YOU TO USE EXTREME EFFORT TO MANEUVER. IT MADE ME VERY FEARFUL AND A BIT PANICKED THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT, IF ONE WERE PENDING. IT HAS BEEN INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT AND MORE FREQUENT SINCE THE DATE LISTED BELOW
TL* THE CONTACT'S MOTHER OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE THE CONTACT'S MOTHER WAS DRIVING 40 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY LOOSE AND THE VEHICLE MADE A SQUEALING SOUND. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS NOTICED WHINING NOISE AND HARD TO TURN. AFTER INSPECTION BY AUTO SHOP THEY STATED THE SUV HAD A LEAK IN THE POWER STEERING RACK AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE HAS LESS THEN 55,000 MILES WITH NO OTHER ISSUES.
