After taking in to dealer for recall diagnostics and higher viscosity oil change a couple months later. Heard a noise while driving on interstate, lost cruise control, stability system, engine light came on with a ECS. Kept driving on the interstate until we got to a red light and the engine died. Cranked starter but hard to start and ran rough and died multiple times. Feathered throttle to get over 1K RPMs to get it off the street. Towed to nearest Chev dealer. P300 code. Tore engine down. Here is what dealer documented: CUSTOMER STATES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON WITH SERVICE TRACTION & SERVICE ESC MESSAGES. ENGINE IS RUNNING ROUGH AND WILL STALL. TOW IN. Valve Spring Replacement - Replacing the faulty valve spring on the cylinder 7 exhaust side is necessary as it is causing the exhaust valve to remain stuckopen, leading to engine misfire and over 80%...
GM replaced engine after a complete failure associated with a defective engine recall. The remanufactured or new engine installed seems to have a similar defect as the original engine. Returned vehicle for service and was told GM refused to repair or replace the engine until the vehicle suffered another complete engine failure. Regardless of any safety concerns of an another complete engine failure.
My engine shutoff while I was driving on the highway. I had the initial recall remedy performed on my 6.2L 2024 silverado truck by getting the thicker oil about 8 month's ago. Now my truck is in the shop I'm suppose to be getting a replacement engine. I'm not sure if I can trust the replacement engine im getting.
In May 2025, we received notice that my truck was involved in GM Safety Recall N252494000. In July 2025, a fuel consumption test was performed because the vehicle showed low oil pressure and was 2-1/2 quarts low. Chevolet indicated "consuming oil" was normal; however, I have owned trucks for 25 years and have never "consumed oil". In October 2025, we received notice that we could finally schedule the engine inspection at a Chevrolet Dealer of our choice. We scheduled this appointment for Monday, November 17th, 2025. The Picoscope Inspection was performed and the engine passed. They installed new higher viscosity oil, new oil fill cap and insert; but they note that the vehicle had no oil on the dipstick and would like to have another consumption test performed in 2000 miles. The next day, Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, the engine failed. The initial diagnosis was a continuous misfire of cylinder...
Vehicle died and would not move forward or in reverse. The engine locked up and had to be replaced. Recall to test engine and replace with thicker oil was performed 6000 miles previous to engine failure.
The cam crankshaft failed. I was driving on the highway at a speed between 65-75 and my truck just cut off without any warning. Luckily, I was in far right lane and coasted over to the side of the road but it was very scary because I didn't control my truck at all. I called the nearest Chevrolet Dealership that was Kevin Whitaker and they give me the Chevrolet help contact phone and they sent a tow truck to pickup my truck about 1 hr later and I was stuck in my truck on the side of the road and I couldn't get out on the drive side because how close it was to oncoming traffic. Once I arrived at the dealership with my truck after asking the tow driver could I ride with him to the dealership. At the dealership they checked the truck with computerized device and the...
I have a 2024 Silverado with the L87 (6.2) engine. I brought in in for recall. After inspection the Chevrolet Service Center said it was good. They changed the oils to 0-W40 per the recall. On January 8, 2026 I was driving at 35 mph and the engine just stopped. I had it towed back to the Chevrolet Service Center and after diagnosis it was determined that the engine failed and has to be replaced which take a month or more.
Engine burning massive amounts of oil, noticeable tick in engine, dealer request I bring it back every 500 miles for a total of 2000 miles to assess wether or not there’s a fault, when I requested for them to keep it diagnose it in their own way without forcing me to continuously have to return to the dealer (4 different times) for a conclusion
5449 miles. Motor had a knock. Took to dealership and they replaced valve lifters
Vehicle simply died in the middle of an intersection and blocked the roadway for an extended period of time before being towed back to dealer. Engine failure confirmed, replacement has been ordered
Thrust bearing failure at 11,945 miles requiring complete engine replacement.
Engine safety concern. Grinding and clunking while engine is running and gets worse under load or when accelerating. Have taken into dealer for service over 6 times. Recall service was performed and their fix was to change to a thicker oil but all that caused was worse fuel economy, more expensive oil changes, and the noises have become worse. Going back to dealer next week for another attempt. Have requested lemon replacement with GM but they are denying any issue.
Vehicle: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country Engine: 6.2L L87 V8 Recall: N252494001 – L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion I am submitting this complaint to report a serious safety defect involving my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country related to NHTSA Safety Recall N252494001 (L87 Engine – Loss of Propulsion). My vehicle experienced a sudden engine failure consistent with the conditions described in the recall, resulting in loss of propulsion. Due to this failure, General Motors authorized a full engine replacement at an authorized GMC dealership. After the engine replacement was completed, the replacement engine also failed in the same manner as the original engine, again resulting in loss of propulsion. This second failure occurred despite the vehicle being repaired according to General Motors’ recall procedures and specifications. Loss of propulsion creates a significant safety risk, especially while driving at highway speeds or in traffic, as it can lead to...
Regarding Recall Repair on My Truck To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally express my frustration and concern regarding the recent service performed on my truck, which I purchased pre-owned from Tropical Chevrolet with only 4,700 miles. 9 months after my purchase, the vehicle received a manufacturer recall involving the motor, requiring a full engine replacement. I brought the truck to Bomnin Chevrolet West Kendall for the recall repair, expecting that it would be handled correctly and at no cost to me, especially since the truck was running perfectly before the recall work. After the motor was replaced, I was informed that the Air intake manifold currently on the truck is “not original.” This Air intake manifold was already installed when I bought the truck from Tropical Chevrolet, and I was never informed of any aftermarket or non-original parts at the time of purchase. Now, after Bomnin...
For the first time I purchased a brand new vehicle off a dealership lot…What a mistake. While the dealership itself was an awful experience I thought it was worth it for a Chevy Silverado. After all my previous one was so reliable. WRONG. The first issue I found was I was unable to shift into reverse to back out of the driveway of a fire station I volunteer at. After driving forward a couple times and shutting the vehicle off and shifting multiple times I had to be towed out in reverse. I was able to drive home but the transmissions slipped once and the vehicle slowed abruptly. The check engine light was now on. I dropped the vehicle off at the dealership over the weekend and on Monday they called and informed me the 2024 Silverado misfired once and nothing was wrong with the transmission. There was nothing they...
Per the dealer, catastrophic engine failure.
The coolant control valve and the transmission control module are having to be replaced on thousands of Silverado 1500s from 2022 to 2025. Both parts have been updated, but there is no recall and many people are being left stranded due to this. Mine has not currently failed, but I am older and really don’t want to get stranded due to a known issue. Why wouldn’t they have been forced to do a recall General Motors should be replacing these as a preemptive precaution.
[XXX] , a long-time Chevrolet customer and GM Family First Program participant, reports a recurring, life-threatening defect in his 2024 Chevrolet ZR2 3.0 Diesel truck. The issue centers on repeated fuel injector failures that have caused the vehicle to become uncontrollable while driving, posing serious safety risks to his family and others on the road. Despite multiple incidents and documented repairs, Chevrolet has failed to provide a permanent solution or meaningful customer support. Mr. [XXX] is requesting NHTSA’s intervention to investigate the defect and hold GM accountable. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
We have had four previously documented issues with the electrical, brake and engine in our truck. Today, we were advised by the dealer that the truck had been fixed, and a new ECM had been installed. They advised they drove the truck for 100 miles and there were no issues. We picked the truck up and on the way home, while on the highway, the truck went into low power mode, the brakes went out, the check engine light and slip light came on. The dash began flashing detection warning lights (see attached photos): Brake system failure 62 MPH top speed, Service steering column lock, Reduced Acceleration drive with care, Service ESC, Service traction control. We immediately turned around and went back to the dealership and showed them what was going on. They took photographs and had the technician come out to look at the vehicle. He looked at the...
I have a 2024 Silverado 1500 Z71. I purchased new, within the first month I started experiencing issues related to the fuel. Stalling, dying, missing at idle and failing to start. I’ve reported it to the dealerships, with the same response unable to duplicate. Sept 22, 2025 I was driving alone rounding a curve in the road when my vehicle lost complete power causing me to loose control crashing into trees. I was unharmed physically, but mentally this hurt. To know this all could have been avoided had Chevy customer service or the dealerships listen and looked at the dtc that were clearly shown. P3187 fuel pump pressure performance low pressure. Stated failed since last cleared. Dealership did not acknowledge or discuss with me this dtc. Instead they gave me a multi point inspection stating unable to duplicate. There negligence caused me to wreck
There is a safety recall on my truck and dealer wont take it in to address the issue. I have been trying for months and they say that they are waiting for guidance from GM. We don't feel safe driving the truck. Asked for GM to buy it back and they denied, told me to find another GM service center. I tried another and they said the same thing. I'm running in circles and shouldn't be forced to drive an unsafe truck that is ~1 year old.
GM is not handle this recall in a timely manner. They are refusing to inspect vehicle to see of there are any defects. This is concerning, as based on the recall notice, the engine may fail at anytime. This could cause a crash or leave me or my wife stranded on some road. My dealer would do the inspection but to do the inspection but they said they are not allowed until I have gotten "permission" from GM. This is a safety concern for me and my family and GM is not handling this appropriately. An immediate inspection should be done ensuring if the vehicle is safe to drive.
On [XXX] at around [XXX], the vehicle a fee a metal clinking noise then suddenly lost power and stalled in the middle of the road([XXX] , Del Mar, CA 92014). After stepping on the gas pedal a couple times, there was no response and no power. The dashboard displayed "engine and transmission problem" and contacted dealership immediately. The vehicle was finally towed to the dealership the next day. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Engine was making noise and ultimately stopped responding when I would push the gas, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Luckily, I was able to get the vehicle off the road in time to not cause an accident. The vehicle could have stalled and seized up in the middle of the highway. This problem has been confirmed by the dealer in the attached work order invoices. It has not been inspected by anyone other than the Mountain Chevrolet dealership, to my knowledge. The dealership has the vehicle running again, but is not able to confirm if the 'new' engine in my vehicle is the one address the recall issue, reference number N252494000. Additionally, this vehicle broke down again two months later for a related issue per the additional service invoice attached. For all of these, GM has not been willing to pay for the full value of...
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road, and the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the fuel pump and the fuel pump module were replaced; however, the failure worsened. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull over to the side road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,500.
These incidents are unrelated: 1) Multiple times the Adaptive cruise brakes when no object is in front of the vehicle. Almost causing the vehicle behind to rear end you. 2) Engine failure while driving.
i have a 2024 Silverado 6.2L. while driving the engine made some scratching/chirping sounds. then it felt like the wheels locked up momentarily. when i got pulled over the engine was chirping and slightly knocking. then the engine stalled. I know there is an active recall for 2021 to 2024 L87 6.2L engines, but the recall did not show up on my vin. everything i read states that any L87 produced after June of 2024 was not affected but my engine is damaged just like the ones in the recall.
07/28/2025 10:35am, We had just pulled onto an Interstate ramp and the engine powered down and the dashboard began flashing errors, service engine soon light came on. The following errors were displayed: Reduce speed to 62 mph, brake system failure, Service traction control, Service ESC, Service steering column lock, Trailer brakes disabled service required. I had no brakes and had to pump them to get stopped. I was able to pull to the side of the road and shut off the engine. I called dealer and reported issue as this occurred last Tuesday. They advised to bring the vehicle in at 0800 tomorrow. I restarted the vehicle and system reset and I was able to continue. At 12:58pm, I pulled off the interstate ramp onto a county road and the engine powered down again and displayed the same errors. The brakes did not fail this time and I was able...
On Tuesday we pulled out into traffic and the truck shuddered and I heard a pop. The air conditioner went out and then a plethora of warnings along with the service engine light popped up on the dash. The brakes stopped working and the truck went into a low idle almost causing the vehicle behind us to rear end us. Error messages were as follows: Brake failure do not go above 62mph, trailer brake failure, steering column needs serviced, service ecs and several others. I was able to get the vehicle back home and called for service at Green Chevy in Peoria, IL I was able to shut the vehicle off and restart it and all error codes were gone. I spoke with the dealer and took it to them. They advised it was a module issue and would reprogram it. It took 2 days and my vehicle is back.
Component/System Failed: Power Train – specifically, the #6 lifter failed and is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The failure caused noticeable engine misfiring, loss of power, and abnormal ticking sounds, which could potentially lead to engine stalling while driving. This creates a serious safety risk, especially during highway driving or merging situations. Confirmation of Problem: The issue was confirmed by a certified GM dealership technician, who diagnosed the failure of the #6 lifter. They advised that the lifter and potentially the camshaft need replacement. Inspection: The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership service department. No inspection has been conducted by police or insurance at this time. Warning Signs: Prior to failure, there were no warning lamps. However, the vehicle began exhibiting a noticeable ticking noise followed by rough idling and reduced performance approximately 71,000 miles.

We took our vehicle to Weber Chevrolet in Granite City, Il on June 26 for an oil change. My husband and I purchased the vehicle on [XXX] from this dealership. We asked if they could put a heavier oil in the vehicle due to this being as one of the remedial fixes for the recall. The service department manager informed us that they would not be able to do this due to it voiding our warranty. They could not give a general answer as to when they will address the recall. My husband and I have safety concerns about taking this vehicle cross country for a family vacation at the end of July. We have decided to trade the vehicle in for a different model due to the uncertainty of the recall. Appallingly, no dealership, including the Chevy dealership we bought it from , is willing to take our 9...
6.2 L engine around 7500 miles engine light came on, it was slow to startup, would shutter during idel. Driving home on the highway the truck turned off cruise control and front impact warning then it came back on about 5 miles down the road. At the same time the truck was shaking and shuttering. Took it into the shop the next day and so far is having at least one maybe 2 cylinders misfiring. Also, since I bought it the axle locks keep saying to service them, take the truck to the dealership and they can't find anything wrong with them. The only way to get the indicator to stop dinging incessantly is to active the axle locks and deactivate them and that will make it stop dinging for about a week.
Recall in place and truck shows recall, multiple appointments made and canceled. Dealer unwilling to handle recall to ensure safety and remove safety recall attached to my vin. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The vehicle currently has 25,871 miles and is burning approximately 2 quarts of motor oil every 3500 miles (oil life indicator at 53%)
Driving home, vehicle jolted, came to stop. Engine making metallic noise and would not start. Had to have vehicle towed to dealership. Dealership confirmed engine blew due to internal failure.

I was driving on the highway passing an 18-wheeler, my truck started making a noice. I hit my hazards and heard others hitting their brakes as I moved for the shoulder. My engine failed and my truck is at the dealership waiting for a new motor and radiator. No warning lamps or messages.
The engine failed and had catastrophic damage. As I was driving it on the highway at speeds of 65 mph the vehicle started loosing power and shaking violently in the middle of driving it. Therefore putting my life and other life’s in danger. After a couple miles the Electronic stability control light came on and the traction control light came on. Also the check engine light came on. Vehicle only has 7500 miles and was driven daily without any mistreatment. The dealer confirmed that the vehicle had catastrophic damage. It had metal shavings inside the oil system. The dealer confirmed the next day that it was worse than when I took it in and they weren’t even able to move it to the engine bay.
I was going 70 in the fast lane on [XXX] near birmingham, Al; when my 2024 Silverado lost propulsion, electrical and power steering. I was forced to move 3 lanes over to the emergency lane or wreck off to the left. When it lost propulsion i lost turn signals and power steering. They are going to attempt to fix it, but engines are on backorder. Regardless if it is fixed, the thing almost killed me. There's no way I'm going to be driving that thing. This issue was confirmed at the dealership and no warning lights came up on the screen prior to losing propulsion. While driving in traffic, car was making weird shifts and strange noises. The engine suddenly lost all power. I tried to restart and the car wouldn't turn over. I tried again and it finally turned over after struggling.
Vehicle has 19299 miles and engine started rattling on deceleration and making clicking and knocking noises. Engine simply stopped working on the highway on the way to Chevy Maintenance. Couldn’t even shift to neutral to get it on the tow truck. It had to be dragged up the ramp. The the clicking and knocking to engine failure happened in one day. Now my truck is sitting in Chevrolet waiting on an engine which is on back order. So I’ll be without a truck that I’m making 1800/mo payments on (took 36 month loan) and can’t even reduce my insurance to comprehensive due to being at a maintenance lot. Bottom line, I have a new undriveable truck with no date available as to when I’ll even get it back. It’s been suggested one to two months…

I was cruising on [XXX] with about 55MPH, and the engine suddenly shut off without any indication. I had to turn on emergency light and came to a full stop in the traffic to restart the engine. It was a route with very heavy traffic in New Jersey, and the lost of power was very scaring and exposed me to a very serious safety risk. My 2024 Chevy Silverado Trailboss with the 6.2 engine has had engine tick since it had about 1200 miles on it, I brought it into the dealer where I purchased it and they determined nothing was wrong with it, now today, the noise is way worse, so I called local dealership to my area, with this engine recall on the 6.2’s, the service guy I spoke with said GM has not come up with a remedy yet so there is nothing they can do about it. I asked them what I’m supposed to do, he said keep driving it until it locks up, I asked him if he was serious and he said yes, drive it until it locks up then have it towed to dealership, if they have a loaner I might get one, I said it’s a safety issue if it locks up on the highway or in...
On April 25, 2025, I was driving on the expressway to work when my 2024 Chevy Silverado 6.2 liter suddenly lost all power. I had to coast from the 3rd lane to the off ramp to get out of other vehicles. My truck was towed to Garber Chererolet in Webster NY, at an expense to me. On April 28, 2025, I was informed by the service manager at Gar er Chevrolet that my Chevy Silverado, 6.2 liter motor blew up and needed a new motor. Later on during the course of that day on April 28, 2025, I learned of, on a national media platform, that General Motors initiated a recall for the 6.2 liter motors that were defective not only for Chevrolet products but all GM products with the 6.2 liter motor in them. Unfortunately I never received a recall notice by the Chevy app, email, USPS Mail or...
It happened to me twice but the first time I was driving on the highway with my family and without warning my engine cut off and I had a message that said “press start button to restart”. I coasted to the shoulder, put the truck in park, and was able to restart. I took it to my dealership where they ran codes and nothing wrong with the engine showed. About 2 weeks later I was taking my kids to daycare and had just exited the highway when my engine cut out again. I pulled up to the 4 way stop sign intersection and tried to restart the truck but it was completely dead and I was stranded in the middle of the intersection with my 3 and 1 year old. The truck threw an engine light this time. I tried to get the truck out of the intersection but the...
While merging onto the fast lane of the highway i experienced a "press push start to restart" alarm and total loss of power as I went to accelerate and merge with traffic. It was almost like the truck was in neutral but pedal would not even increase the rmp. There was no shoulder and I was forced to stop and restart my vehicle between the onramp and the fast lane. Im fortunate to not have ended up in a bad rear end accident. It did the same a half mile later where atleast I had a shoulder to pull off onto this time. Check engine light threw up a camshaft position sensor fault
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed oil leaking from the bottom of the vehicle near the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 9,997.
Sudden Engine failure, metal shavings found in oil at 16K miles. GM and the dealer acknowledges that the 6.2L motor has been having issues. They state that they are currently investigating but a "fix" of the issue has NOT been made. The motor was replaced under warranty, however, the engine they replaced it with has the same chance of failing as the original engine. There was no warning, no indications prior the the motor seizing up at a red light
