Consumer Description
Vehicle: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country Engine: 6.2L L87 V8 Recall: N252494001 – L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion I am submitting this complaint to report a serious safety defect involving my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country related to NHTSA Safety Recall N252494001 (L87 Engine – Loss of Propulsion). My vehicle experienced a sudden engine failure consistent with the conditions described in the recall, resulting in loss of propulsion. Due to this failure, General Motors authorized a full engine replacement at an authorized GMC dealership. After the engine replacement was completed, the replacement engine also failed in the same manner as the original engine, again resulting in loss of propulsion. This second failure occurred despite the vehicle being repaired according to General Motors’ recall procedures and specifications. Loss of propulsion creates a significant safety risk, especially while driving at highway speeds or in traffic, as it can lead to sudden power loss without warning and increases the risk of a crash. Despite the replacement engine failing in the same way as the original recalled engine, General Motors is now refusing to replace the second failed engine or provide a permanent remedy. As a result, my vehicle remains unsafe to operate and unresolved under the existing safety recall. I am concerned that the recall remedy is inadequate and that replacement engines may also contain the same defect, creating an ongoing safety hazard. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter to determine whether the recall repair is effective and whether additional corrective action is necessary to protect vehicle owners.
