Was driving on highway and starting to exit and my engine light came on and it alerted reduced engine power. I had to slam on my brakes but they were very hard to press and almost non existent and steering was also difficult. Managed to get car to side of road but due to very hard to non existent brakes I did graze a truck and damaged my rear drivers side fender. I am very lucky I didn’t get injured and was able to mostly miss the cars stopped in front of me. I also have the shift to park issue happen at least 4 times a week.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,544.

I was driving at 70 MPH on the freeway when off a sudden my car haulted back and said engine power reduced. I had my kids in the car and traffic behind me when my car went into an auto decline in MPH reaching 30 MPH before I could quickly pull over. I called the company I bought my car at the next day. They told me I needed an inspection but my check engine light only stayed on overnight and was off by the time I went in. In the last year this has happened over 10x. It’s manageable but incredibly dangerous if going at a fast speed. The weird part is if you turn your car off for 1-2 minutes, you turn it back on the there is no longer a power reduction and all is back to normal.

I have a 2017 Malibu and have gotten a message on my MFD (Multi-Function Display) screen on the dash that said Steering Assist Reduce, drive with care. It happens while driving city streets and at a complete stop. Now the doors are unlocking when the message pops up at stops. Also the care is losing power at the stops now and coming back on. It does not allow me to accelerate. This is very dangerous. I took my car into the dealership a couple months ago for the same error message but they blew it off saying I needed some type of fluid (if I remember correctly). Now, I have the same issue amplified. It wrecks lemon! I filed another complaint months ago, but I’m filing again due to scheduling yet another service appointment at the Chevrolet dealership. (Hence why I put todays date of the incident).
My car has been in and out of the dealership since I purchased it back in 2017. The vehicle shuts off while I am driving it. The first time this happened I was on the highway with my 5 year old son. I completely lost power and had no control being my steering wheel locked. Since then I have repeatedly had the same issue. Each time calling the dealership and each time they find either nothing wrong with it. Or say they fixed the issue which I was charged for. For the same issue that was fixed to happen again. This happened yet again today as I was making a left hand turn onto a 4 lane highway. It happens atleast once a day. I lost all power to my car. Steering wheel locked and car refused to start. There is something going on with this car and many others....
Since purchase from dealer at 40,000 miles I have complained numerous times. Dealer can not reproduce and refuses to do anything about it. When driving vehicle with and sometimes with out AC on. The vehicle doesn't want to go. I could have the gas peddle to the floor and it won't accelerate. Does is whenever it wants to seems as if when AC is on it does it the most. An alert “Engine power is reduced” came on are 6pm 5/7/22. Never seen it before. My car began to click and wouldn’t go over 40mph. Steering wheel locked up when attempting to turn. I cut the car off to try to restart it and it did allow me to turn but there was immediate smoke released from car.

While driving the electronic power steering stopped working almost causing me to crash.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while she was driving at an undisclosed speed and approaching a stoplight, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle suddenly lost electrical power. The warning message "Steering Assist Reduced, Drive with Care" was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued to drive; however, the failure recurred increasingly while depressing the brake pedal at stoplights. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
I received steering assist reduce multiple times on the vehicle. I took it to the repair shop the warranty company Silver Rock recommended. The repair company stated my car is having a computer issue. The car also does not go into auto stop, when making a full stop. The car now has to be towed to a Chevy dealership to handle the issue.
STEERING ASSIST REDUCED DRIVE WITH CARE message comes on car screen. The steering wheel jerks and acceleration is reduced. This is putting everyone in my car at risk as we are not able to accelerate fast enough if anything were to happen. Car has been taken to the dealership and they are unable to identify the problem. I checked online and multiple Malibus are having this problem. If you're looking for a safe car for your family member this is not the car. These cars have these errors built in the system and the dealership are unable to find the problem costing a lot of money on diagnostics to get no results. When driving my car and I stop at a red light and then when the light turns green I accelerate. I notice I get a message on my dashboard power assist and reduce speed. This constantly shows up on my dashboard. I have am appointment with Gm on 9/21/21 to take it in to get service.

WHILE DRIVING ON I-85 SOUTH AT 70 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND I COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE AND WHILE BRAKING THE STEERING CAME BACK ONCE I HIT THE EMERGENCY LANE. AFTER THAT WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED AGAIN IT WILL FINALLY MOVE FORWARD.
VEHICLE STABILITY TRACK DISABLED AND STEERING GET STIFF AND HARD TO CONTROL. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND 1000'S OF PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED IT. DEALER WANT TO CHAR $2,700 TO FIX FOR AN ISSUE THAT WAS REPORTED AS A DANGEROUS AND KNOWN TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE WARNING COME ON INTERMENT AND MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL SPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEED. ALL OTHER SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AS ACCIDENT WARNING OR LANE DEPARTURE GETS DISABLED

I WAS ON A HIGHWAY IN WARREN OH DRIVING TO WORK TRAVELING AT 65 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE. A MESSAGE APPEARED AND SAID LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND THE AT WENT FROM 65 TO 20 IN 1 SECOND. THERE WERE VEHICLES BEHIND ME AND BESIDE ME. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AND WHEN I TRIED TO GET OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I WAS ALMOST SMASHED BY A SEMI. AS WELL AS THAT MESSAGE IT THEN STATED STEERING ASSIST INACTIVE SO IT WAS THEN HARD TO TURN MY WHEEL AS IF THERE WASN'T ENOUGH OF A PROBLEM. THANK GOD I AM OK BUT SOMEONE ELSE MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS THAT I SEE ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS ISSUE. HOW IS THERE NOT A RECALL. GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE REPAIRS. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN NOV 2019.
I WAS LEAVING WORK AND GOT 5 MINUTES INTO MY DRIVE AND I HAD A WARNING LIGHT COME ON IN MY MALIBU WHILE I WAS IN MOTION DRIVING STRAIGHT IN TOWN. IT INDICATED "ELECTRIC STEERING ISSUES" IT WAS ON FOR NO MORE THAN 5-10 SECONDS THEN IT TURNED OFF AUTOMATICALLY. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND I CAME TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND MY VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND WOULD NOT START BACK. IT WAS FRIGHTENING BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD HAVE HIT ME FROM BEHIND. HAVING ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION (HARD SHIFTING, NOT GOING INTO GEAR, NOT GOING INTO PARK). THIS STARTED WITHIN A FEW THOUSAND MILES OF OWNING THE CAR. THE POWER STEERING ALSO GOES OUT AT RANDOM TIMES. THE CAR GETS SIGNIFICANTLY HARDER TO STEER, OR TURN. HAPPENS WHEN LANE DEPARTURE IS TURNED OFF AS WELL. ALSO THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE AS CONSTANTLY FAILING. ALMOST LIKE THE CAMERA JUST STOPS WORKING, AND THE ENTIRE SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN, OR IT SAYS ITS STILL ENGAGED AND CANT SEE THE CARS IN FRONT SLOWING DOWN. THE VERY FIRST ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC REPORT BY 'ONSTAR" EMAILED TO ME ON 04/07/2017, WAS LESS THAN 30 DAYS AFTER THE FINAL SALE OF MY VEHICLE. I CALLED THE SERVICE TEAM FOR THE FIRST TIME ON APRIL 7, 2019 @4:13PM. AT THE TIME OF SALE, THE CAR HAD 15 MILES TOTAL. THE DIAGNOSTIC MESSAGE RECEIVED ON APRIL 7, 2017 WAS "AN ISSUE WITH THE EMISSIONS/ ENGINE POWER REDUCED/ENGINE STALLED". THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALSO ON I HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL TO THAT EFFECT EVERY MONTH THEREAFTER, AND TO DATE. EACH TIME CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. I HAVE ALSO ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED MULTIPLE TIMES, WITHIN WARRANTY AND WHILE...
GEAR SHIFTER GAVE OUT WHILE DRIVING. ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. CAR SHIFTED ITSELF INTO NEUTRAL EVEN THOUGH I SHIFTED GEARS INTO PARK ONCE I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE COMPUTER SCREEN READ NEUTRAL. CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF FROM ACCESSORY MODE AND SAID "SHIFT TO PARK" BUT IT WOULD NOT. THEN WHEN I TRIED TO SHIFT IT JUMPED HARD AND YOU COULD SEE THE ENGINE JUMP AS IF IT WASN'T MOUNTED PROPERLY. WAS ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE BUT HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER CALLED TODAY TO SAY IT WAS GEAR SHIFTER. WENT BAD BUT THE BATTERY HAD DRAINED TOO AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE BATTERY. THE SHIFTER PROBLEM IS DANGEROUS . I ONLY HAD 11989 MILES ON IT AND IT IS 1 YEAR OLD.
BOUGHT VEHICLE BRAND NEW, NOW HAS 14,000 MILES. ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE COASTING FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD JERK RAPIDLY BACK AND FORTH ON ITS OWN. IT IS A RAPID RIGHT LEFT RIGHT LEFT ONLY MOVING THE WHEEL ABOUT 2 INCHES FROM THE CENTER EACH WAY. IT HAS ON NUMEROUS OCCASION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FELT LIKE THE STEERING WENT REALLY LOOSE, ALMOST A NEUTRAL FEEL WITHOUT RESISTANCE AND VEHICLE BECOMES DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHEN THIS HAPPENS. IN NEITHER SITUATION WILL IT DO IT TO THE POINT ANY SERVICE TECHNICIAN WILL EVER BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT. THE STEERING HAS WENT "LOOSE" ON ABOUT 12 TO 14 OCCASIONS. THE RAPID BACK AND FORTH JERKING HAS HAPPENED TWICE. THE RAPID JERKING HAS HAPPENED BOTH TIMES ON DIFFERENT ROAD SURFACES AT SPEEDS BELOW 45 MPH WHILE COATING, FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND FOOT NOT TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL.
WHEN I TO A STOP LIKE COME OFF THE EXIT CAR CUT OFF AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOT ON BE FOR SECOND. I HAVE TOOK IT TO THE DEAL THREE TIME AND THEIR EVERYTHING IS OKAY THEIR THE PROBLEM THE NEXT DAY SAME THING HAPPEN AND IT WILL COMES UP ON THE DASHBOARD THAT I`M LOSING POWER.
AFTER HAVING PROBLEMS WITH LOSING POWER STEERING ON MY 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU I DID THIS RESEARCH ON LINE. I AM INCLUDING SOME OF THE MOST SERIOUS COMPLAINTS AND LINK TO THE COMPLAINT INFORMATION FOR YOUR CONNIVANCE. I CONTACTED SHAHEEN CHEVROLET AND WAS ADVISED BY ROBIN THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THE PROBLEM BUT THAT GM WOULD COVER THE COSTS. AFTER HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO SHAHEENS I RECEIVED A CALL INFORMING ME THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $1,300 FOR THE REPAIRS AND GM WOULD NOT COVER THE COSTS. I REQUESTED A CALL BACK FROM THE SERVICE MANAGER 2-5-18 9.30. HE RETURNED MY CALL A 2.30 PM AND RELAYED TO ME THAT GM WOULD NOT COVER THE COSTS OF REPAIRS. HE ALSO STATED THAT ROBIN SHOULD NOT HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD. I CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT GM 1.800. 222-1020 AND THEY REPLIED THAT GM WOULD NOT...
I DROVE THE DESCRIBED CAR AS A RENTAL FROM ENTERPRISE WHILE MY CAR IS BEING REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON A MOSTLY STRAIGHT PARKWAY AT 55 MPH, AND SUDDENLY THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED SHARPLY TO THE LEFT, ON ITS OWN, AND I LEFT THE ROADWAY AND HIT THE GRASS MEDIAN, GOT THE CAR BACK ON THE ROADWAY, SHAKEN, AND CONTINUED DRIVING VERY CONFUSED AS TO WHAT JUST HAPPENED. TURNS OUT THESE CARS HAVE A STEERING DEFECT THAT APPARENTLY IS NOT CAUSING A RECALL, AND IT IS NOT BEING ACKNOWLEDGED BU CHEVY. BLOGS OF OWNERS DESCRIBE THE EXACT SAME EVENT WHICH HAS PITTED CHEVY OWNERS AGAINST THE COMPANY WHICH IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE DEFECT. I WAS TOO SCARED TO GET IN THAT CAR AGAIN. PLEASE ADVISE ME IF A RECALL HAS FINALLY OCCURRED FOR THIS SCARY DEFECT.
