2014 CHEVROLET IMPALA Electrical System Problems

I have a 2014 Impala limited I started having problems within 6 months after I bought the vehicle from Bergstrom Chevrolet in Wisconsin it was involving the ABS anti-lock stability track and traction control and the braking and steering we're all feeling and locking up while I was driving it presented and problems and endangering my life and the life of any passengers in the vehicle the brakes will lock up and there was no warning before I locked up no lights came on and it would pull to the left or pull to the right depending on which ABS was locking up and it was fixed one time at the dealership then it was fixed again at the dealership later maybe about another 3 to 6 months after and went up for the same thing again and the parts were replaced now I again have had nothing but problems...

I previously owned a 2011 Buick Regal and now have a 2014 Chevy Impala. Both vehicles have had a Stabilitrack warning come up. Both vehicles experienced the same issue. The car seemed to jerk, lag in speed, cannot accelerate over 40mph. The Regal was diagnosed with an electrical/wiring issue. The Impala was diagnosed with a failed Transmission Control Module. We now have a 2016 Impala and the same issue and warning lights have appeared. That’s 3 vehicles we’ve owned from GMC with the exact same issue. This can’t be a coincidence and should be looked into. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of more consumers on forums experiencing the exact same issue. This should be recalled! Imagine the possibilities of danger this can cause when on the interstate and can’t accelerate over 40mph.

Very loud abnormal ticking sound coming from the vehicle, failed actuators. Resulting in hvac loss. Arecall issued in 2014 for stabilitrak /abs for bad grounds on 2014 Chevy Impalas. HOWEVER 2.5 and 3.6 L engines were not included, BUT NEED TO BE!!! the car will drive rough and eventually just cut off in the middle of traffic highway or residential. This is what it did on me, putting me in a very dangerous position with my 5 year old in the car. This issue is effecting thousands of the same vehicles and GM's failure to address this issue is leaving the owners of the affected vehicles driving unsafe vehicles. I received an alert to service the sideview sensors. Also, the sideview alert keeps flashing in the side mirrors even when there's no vehicle present.

Service side detection system came up on the display while driving on the freeway at 65MPH.

Side detection system failure. I have had 3 harness replacements on driver side. 2 harness replacements on passenger side, and a module replacement just 2 years ago. This failure causes my instrumentation to shut off, turn signals not work, and shuts off cruise control when in use. I have read outher more extreme cases like engine compartment fires or car shutting off while driving. I believe all these should be considered safety issues. I have owned this vehicle since new.

My steering wheel tripping , my brake light , my parking gear is triggered , stabilizing system and air bag

My back window exploded. The defrost system blew up while driving it's Brown burned marks in my window where the defrost runs

The brakes continue to malfunction I am unsure if a previous recall was fixed properly or not the Chasis electrical system has been fixed with electrical tape only the transmission and stability track and anti lock brake system error light with go off from time to time when it does and the more it’s driven the worse the issues get these are all recalls and the problems still persist are we confident that the recalls have been corrected

The side detection module has just failed out for the second time in under 2 years, 20k miles on my 2014 Impala LTZ. The first time it failed (less than two years ago), the side detection indicator on the mirrors started to go off randomly, and then eventually, I was unable to reliably lock/unlock my car. Eventually, it wouldn't even start/shut off (Push to start), and the entire dash was off even when running. It messed with seemingly the entire car's electrical system, and made it unsafe to drive (imagine if I would've been on the highway and the car shut down, plus I didn't have any gauges at all). As stated, this system (and side detection module specifically), has corroded and gone out again, despite this module supposedly being better sealed. I had a GM dealership replace the entire system with their kit, which was out of their specialty...

My blind spot detectors went out, now as a result most of the electrical stuff no longer works. The car powers on and drains the battery randomly and the speedometer doesn’t work. Every light comes on from front camera, abs, and even power steering. I didn’t feel safe taking my kids to school and now I don’t feel I should pay $1,300 out of pocket.

Every year the side sensor goes bad.. This causes vehicle to loose important factors while driving. Headlight go off and on. Speed goes to 0, all codes flashing, gas and ram gone. Car also locks and unlocks randomly along with no heat or air.. This has happened twice even after fuse is pulled while waiting on yet another $1000 repair. This is so very unsafe. Car needs to be removed from roads or side sensor part coverd.

Started the car radio was black a/c compartment wasn’t lit then power steering fluid drive with care message appears

Back windshield exploded/shattered d/t short in defroster. This is the THIRD time this has happened in 5 years, first 2 times were in 2019.

Messages for “service side detection system” and “service rear vision system” appear web vehicle is turned on. Side detection system as well as backup camera are both non functional. GM knows about this issue and had a recall/ warranty repair program. however I was never notified to bring my vehicle in to have this repair done, and now I believe it is past the date that was set to have repairs covered. Will be contacting GM to have these things potentially fixed.

Module kit needs replaced due to water getting in it... had been replaced less than 5 years ago.

My vehicle is exhibiting the exact systems outlined in NHTSA bulletin PI0924B: Some customers may comment on unwanted opening of the trunk without pressing any of the release buttons while the vehicle is parked. Although the trunk is unlatched while parked, the owner may not observe the trunk open until they begin to drive the vehicle. This may also be accompanied with a “Trunk Open” message in the DIC. This condition may be caused by the trunk release button on the remote transmitter being pressed inadvertently while the transmitter is in their pocket or purse.

While driving the car electrical system will lose all power and reset. This happens often.

On July 11th 2023 I finalized the purchase of a black 2014 Chevy Impala LT at Premiere Auto Solutions LLC. The beginning of the week of July 22nd I started hearing loud noises coming from back tire area. On approximately July 24th, the engine light came on for small Evaporation leak code. Returned back to Premiere Auto and spoke with worker\dealer about situation with the car. Was told by this person after a test drive with him that the back tire noises are normal due to the braking system, and he cleared the engine code from dash panel. Within the next week, back tire noise got worse and engine light came back on along with message to service front camera\side detection system. I have a 2014 Chevy Impala LTZ, owned it for 9 years. Just started with issues within the last 6months and it just seems to be getting worst everyday. While making a left turn, not even driving 5mph my power steering fails and the drivers side tires seem to lock up as if the car would be hydro planing. Once it happens the dashboard Alerts come on such as Stabilitrac, Traction Control, ABS, Service Break Assistance, Power Steering, and I lost control of the car in the middle of the road!! Brought the car to the shop they change the wheel bearings. We also changed the brakes in March of this year, we had a front and back realignment plus new tires within the last 6 months. The right turn signal bulb keeps blowing. Break lights were stuck on. I got pulled over because the blinker wasn't working and parking light wouldn't go off. The officer was nice because I had just got the car and didn't give me a ticket, just a warning. Blinker on passenger side won't work with lights on and fuses for that side keeps blowing

My car has had a the side detection modules fail every 1 to 2 years since I've owned the car new in 2014. The dealership has repaired it for free every time now for at least 5 times. Now that the car is not under warranty they refuse to fix it for free. This is a problem with the design and engineering of the car and it is very costly to fix. The problem will continue to occur since the manufacturer refuses to find a permanent solution to the issue. It is related to the placement of the unit and it is affected by the environment and corrodes.

Multiple electric concerns...airbag light, park assist, inop camera, and losing communication with BCM(?) Found multiple communication codes for a variety of different modules. Found main source to be from the "side detection modules". Found fuse 62 blown underhood. Inspected side detection modules and found "a lot of corrosion" on both modules and connectors. The 2014 Chevy Impala is dangerous. When the rocker arm control valve and related parts fail or the camshaft solenoids and sensors fail the car will drive rough and eventually just cut off in the middle of traffic highway or residential. This is what it did on me, putting me in a very dangerous position. The economic loss is still devastating financially as all 2.5 and 3.6 engines arent covered by GM special warranty but they should be all covered. My VIN number was not included when it should be.

I was driving in a snowstorm and all of the sudden the ABS, Stabilitrak, and power steering went out. I'm frustrated that this is the 2nd electrical safety issue that I have experienced. Both of which have been reported by several drivers and still no recalls!

Car turned off while driving and lost Al power

Electrical issues, radio volume disappears for a short period of time, turn signal audible noise disappears at same time radio volume stops, power sterring assist stops working for short time, sterring issue repaired in 2016 but doing again, ac cooling stops working for short time period, off and on, seems to be some type of electrical issue with the vehicle, purchased new in 2014, only 32,000 mile on car at present, every time taken to dealer will not reproduce the problem, called GM states recall 14515 is not part of my car, i question that in that this recall is for electrical issues. can not seem to get any furthur with anyone on this issue

Due to a poor electrical ground connection to the power steering control module, the vehicle has been losing power steering assist during start up and while driving; this requires much greater effort for me to steer the vehicle even at low speeds, and is increasing the risk of a crash for me and my family.

I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GM ON 04/11/2022 ( [XXX] ). ON 04/14/2022, I WAS INFORMED BY GM ON THE PHONE, THAT I WAS NOT COVERED. THEIR WARRANTY ENDED O8/2021? THE VEHICLE ALSO MUST HAVE UNDER 80,000. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 55,638. I WAS NEVER CONTACTED BY GM OF THIS FAULT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I HAVE READ THAT THE FAULT ISSUE CAN CAUSE FIRE TO THE VEHICLE. Bad wiring harnesses causing brakes and antilock brakes to throw codes and fail. Abs and stable track fail and also cause car to suddenly go to low engine power mode while driving down highway. Replaced nearly every brake component plus vehicle computers and abs modules. Vehicle now throwing new codes serious at random. Main pcm computer replaced twice. Abs, brake booster, abs modular, master cylinder, 4 calipers, hoses, abs module and abs valve assembly all these components replaced twice at least. Vehicle was not a flood car.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the side detection sensors that illuminate on the rear-view mirror failed to function as intended. The contact stated there was a special customer program released however they had missed the expiration date by one month. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who confirmed that the side detection sensor, modules and wire harnesses needed to be replaced. The contact later found that the wiring harness associated with this system was prone to corrosion and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the failure continued to occur intermittently. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44, 786.

51,000 miles. System has failed three times. first two covered by Warranty. Not under warranty now. There are numerous complaints about this problem. It will now cost me up to two thousand to repair. car is at risk of fire,failure to start and other major electrical problems. Dealer wants $140 to diagnose, I am afraid to drive this car.

The electronic parking brake fails to disengage entirely from the rear brake pads causing them to become welded together. This results in extreme heat, excess brake dust, poor acceleration, and caliper / brake line (air) issues.

WATER ENTER IN THROUGH TRUNK LEDGE SEALS TO THE DEGREE OF SHORTENING OUT THE HARNESS, RADIO DASH LIGHTING CAMERA BACK WINDOW. THE FLOOR OF THE TRUNK WAS SOAKED AS THOUGH WATER WAD POURED. THE WATER WAS STANDING A LOT IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL. THERE WAS ANOTHER CUSTOMER WITH THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE THAT HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE DAYS PRIOR TO VISIT TO DEALERSHIP.

Fire started behind glove box area and burned electrical wires, instrument panel, airbag, front windshield, hood, water and smoke damage.

The linx radio stopped working. The onstar system stopped working awhile after the linx radio stopped working when the car started to operate off of battery reserve (or what I think is battery reserve --- the light on the dashboard changed to blue). I've had to change the batter twice in 2.5 years. I'm told the battery Duralast is a good battery and that its an electrical fuse problem and it would be difficult to find which wire is the problem. The vehicle has been inspected by three different dealers in three different states. I was also told to uninstall onstar for resolution of the electrical problem of the battery draining and needing to draw energy from another source taking up more energy than it's suppose to in the vehicle. We have had several problems with the blind spot sensor on our 2014 Impala LTZ. Problems would always occur when driving in rain or snow. Dealer would just say that the sensor gets wet and that we should try to dry it off. Once the sensor was dry it would work ok. Now the sensor does not work at all. Took it off and it was full of corrosion. Reading online regarding reviews I find out that this is a very common problem with GM vehicles but GM refuses to do a recall. However they did do a special offer to replace the sensor if you have less than 80,000 miles. My car has 85,000 but I have dealt with this problem for several years. HAVE HAD CAR AT DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES TOTAL FOR THE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM MESSAGE/BLIND SPOT INDICATOR LIGHTS. FIRST TWO TIMES THE ISSUE WAS FIXED BECAUSE I HAVE THE MPP COVERAGE PLAN. THIS TIME MPP WOULD HAVE COVERED IT BUT MECHANIC SHOWS WATER INTRUSION. THEIR WAS A RECALL AT ONE TIME FOR VEHICLES UP TO 80,000 MILES. MINE HAS 124,000 SO NOT COVERED BUT WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THE SAME THING PRIOR DID NOT HAVE 80,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,981.

RECEIVED LETTER FROM GMC IN MARCH 2020 REGARDING ELECTRICAL WIRE LEADING TO PASSENGER SEAT NOT DEPLOYING AND MAY BECOME DISCONNECTED AND FAIL TO DEPLOY WHEN COMMANDED. ALSO AN INDICATION WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE AND GMC FAILS COVER THE COST BECAUSE ITS NOT IDENTIFIED AS RECALL. THE STATES THEY WILL COVER FOR NO CHARGE IF WITHIN 8 YEARS OF ORIGINALLY PLACED IN SERVICE OR 80,000 MILES (WHICHEVER COMES FIRST). GMC SHOULD ALREADY THAT 2014 CARS WILL BE WELL 80,000 MILES IN 2020! SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND LIVES ARE AT STAKE, GMC SHOULD NOT MAKE THIS FINANCIAL BURDEN FOR CONSUMERS. ADDITIONALLY THE ELECTRICAL WIRING FOR THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS AN ISSUE. MY SCREEN CONTINUES TO BLINK IN AND OUT AND SHOW A SYSTEM REFRESH AND THE RADIO, BLUETOOTH CAPABILITY, AND LOCKING MECHANISMS ARE INOPERABLE AS WELL. ALL OF THESE ISSUES STARTED...

THE CAR ELECTRICAL GOES HAYWIRE. ALL THESE ALERTS AND POP UP COME ON ABS LIGHTS. STABILLATRAC. NO POWER STEERING. LOOKED UP ISSUE IT HAS SOMETHING WITH A BAD SENSOR IN BUMPER. VERY DANGEROUS

THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON. EVERYTHING ON DASHBOARD LIKE THE ARROWS GO TO ZERO AND DOESN'T MOVE. THE OXYGEN SENSOR IS NOT WORKING. AND SOME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. ALSO THE CAR HAS PROBLE!S MOVING AT FIRST. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I AM DRIVING.
