Unable to steer. Received the power steering error mentioned in reports, I don’t remember the error code. Happened in my driveway, so no issues with respect to time or place. Rebooted the car and the error went away, but still scheduled service due to error code. It resulted in bringing the car to a service center where the steering rack was replaced.
I was in Tesla charging station when I noticed this steering issue happened. I wasn’t be able to turn the steering as usual and had to make call to Tesla and had it towed to their repair shope. It took four days to replace the rack and pinion. I am not happy having just three month and this happened. Shape on Tesla. Thank God I was not in the free way.
While driving my 2023 Model Y, the electronic power steering suddenly stopped working. Luckily there wasn’t a vehicle behind me, which avoided any accident. I had to use immense manual power on the steering to make the vehicle move to the side. Upon resetting, the steering was back to normal again. However, this seems to be a serious safety hazard and I cannot fathom the fact if it had happened on a busy freeway.
My model y was park in our garage and when we decided to go out to get some food around 7pm and when I started backing out the steering wheel seems “locked” that like 5 seconds after the car start moving… I move it forward so it won’t be in the street or side wall and I tried to walk away and lock it and it happened again. I did for 5 times and I even ask people who we know that have Tesla and I even turn the power off and waited two minutes and still the steering wheel locks up. I made an appointment and for this Thursday and I added that the car is undriveable because it seems like their help service in the app says “bring all the keys”… I have been reading online about and how to troubleshoot but it seems like it’s a defective...
About 24 hours after the car was delivered I performed the first routine OTA software update. Upon putting the car into drive for the first time after finishing the software update, the power steering failed with a "power steering reduced" warning before the car could move. The steering wheel would not move without great effort. A power cycle cleared the issue. After remotely viewing the vehicle logs, Tesla service inspected the car about two weeks later at a service center. The service center determined the issue was resolved by a firmware update. The issue has not come back since the initial occurrence. The service center was aware of the problem and was initially prepared to replace the steering rack.
We purchased the vehicle new approximately 2 weeks ago. After about a week, the steering wheel would lock up randomly. This occurred 6 times on different dates before we were able to get it to the Tesla service department. The vehicle currently remains at Tesla for the next 3 weeks while we await a new steering rack/motor. The vehicle would lock while in the park position but we were still able to move forward and backward. I’ve read other instances where this has occurred in other Tesla vehicles. The safety concern is this could have occurred while driving which would have ended in unfavorable circumstances. This should not be happening in a brand new vehicle and the fact that this has occurred in other Tesla vehicles is very concerning. I’ve uploaded photos of the errors that showed on the screen when the problem occurred.
2 weeks old car. 350 miles. Coming out of the shopping center, suddenly steering wheel did not steer. It was hard and saw the alert. Went to very close to opposite side of traffic and some how made it to across the road inside the shopping center
Over the past few weeks, I have been experiencing significant problems with the steering wheel of my car. Upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel frequently locks or becomes exceedingly stiff, requiring significant physical effort to turn. Rebooting the system, exist then re-entering the car can sometimes fix the issue temporarily to make it drivable for the current trip. This issue not only causes inconvenience but also poses a serious threat to safety as it sometimes persists even while driving. Yesterday it happened again when I drove the car to the dealer for diagnosis and repair. Luckily, it didn't happen when I was on highway, it happened when I existed the highway and stopped at the first traffic light when the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn again. The car is in the service center since 6/3/23. Operating a vehicle under such conditions is challenging and risky, creating potential...
Hi Team, I bought a new car Model Y- [XXX] from Tesla on 27 Dec 2022 and after driving 50 miles itself with in 3 days, I reported so many manufacturing issues to Tesla in my new Car. All the issues that I have reported at that time either all of them are still open or while fixing any of those issues it caused even more issues in my car. As of now I have given my car 5-6 times to them for service so they may fix them but still all those issues either still exists or not fixed well. I am fed up giving my new car back to them for servicing and booking appointments & visiting them. Initially one of their employee gave me a confirmation that he is working with Tesla to buy back my car but then after 30 days I got to understand that...
I was trying to make my way into a parking lot yesterday and my car was in a complete stop and I was making sure that the spot is a right one since I was in downtown Norfolk with its parking issue. I noticed a sudden acceleration of my vehicle and I obviously became terrified and just waiting for what will happen next. Fortunately, the parking lot of empty with no passenger or vehicle to run into. I pressed the brake and the car came into a complete stop. I can only imagine what could have happened if the parking lot was not empty. I parked my car and went for my appointment. After my appointment and I drove the same car home with no issues, I am curious to understand what has happened so I started researching online whether this is a one of issue or there are others...
April 22, 2023, at 7:00 pm: I stepped into the car at a local store parking lot and pushed my foot on the brake to unlock the vehicle. The wheel jerked hard right and made a thud. The screen warned that “Steering Assist Reduced” with an error code ui_a020. Power steering was disabled. I restarted the Tesla with dual buttons and left it alone for two minutes, but power steering did not return. The vehicle drove but was difficult to steer without power steering. We were less than a mile away and made it home with steering difficulties. I made a service request online to Tesla immediately. At home, I restarted using the dual buttons again and left the vehicle alone for longer. This time power steering felt like it partially returned, but when turning the wheel, it was clunky: every 1/8”, a bump in the steering was felt. I’ve...
Upon receiving the car the steering wheel never matched the way the wheels pointed. The steering wheel needed to be around 10-15 degrees to the right to go straight. After 3 wheel alignment's, the steering wheel still isn't straight to get the car to travel straight, but having to keep the wheel 3 degrees to the right is better than 10 degrees.
While driving down the road in traffic, several errors started appearing on the Tesla screen, and the vehicle lost power brakes and steering, rendering it impossible to drive safely. The complete set of car systems that were disabled all at once was: stability control disabled traction control disabled automatic vehicle hold disabled lane departure avoidance unavailable ABS disabled steering assist reduced (no power steering) regenerative braking features temporarily limited automatic emergency braking disabled The car is only weeks old. We had the car towed to a Tesla repair center, and they said due to a wiring issue, the wheel weight on the right rear wheel was rubbing against the wire connecting the wheel speed sensor, which led to this cascading series of errors. I'm concerned this is a systemic issue with newer Model Ys. There's a QA or manufacturing defect, and Tesla, along with the NHTSA, needs to investigate this...
I lost the ability to steer the Tesla Model Y. After exiting the vehicle, I found a bolt on the pavement beside the vehicle (see photo) that fell out of the steering mechanism. Had this happened at high speed, a fatal accident could have occurred. We called Tesla Roadside Assistance; they responded within an hour, towed the vehicle to the repair facility, and replaced the parts and aligned the front end.
Automatic emergency braking occurs without cause at high speeds on flat divided Hwy. Happened on multiple trips 5 or more times in a 3 hour drive on 3 different highways in NM. Tesla service has addressed the issue twice. said everything is working properly. Happens when Cruse control + auto steering are active.
Tesla autopilot made a turn into oncoming traffic without warning and caused a collision.
Vehicle steering lost power steering and the steering is stuck in straight position only while driving. Vehicle can travel only straight line forward or backward and cannot turn. Powering off and on did not help resolve the issue. Had to get the car towed to Tesla service.
Took delivery of new Tesla Model Y on Friday, March 24th. While driving it to my residence (205 miles away) noticed that the alignment was off and vehicle pulled to the left at highway speeds on flat, level sections of roadway. I was not informed of the 100 miles or 7 days to report issues with vehicle. I scheduled service with Tesla with odometer reading of 348. Tesla service verified the issue and corrected it but charged me $275 for an issue that was present from factory.
We leased the brand new Model Y on Tuesday January 24th at Tesla, Rockville, MD. On Friday January 27th at approximately 4:30pm we were driving on RT773 Riverside Parkway in the right hand lane and the steering wheel came totally out of the column with wires and electronic exposed. I was able to slow the car down and the car went up on the curb. I kept trying to put the steering wheel back in the column and somehow managed to get it in enough to drive home which was 5 miles away. All of the electronics did not work. Tesla came and towed the car the same evening. There was no working warning. Tesla towed the car and the next day on Saturday said the bolt to the steering column was loose and became dislodged.
Intermittent shaking from the two front wheels while driving.
I bought this car on January 24, 2023, I was driving with my family on Route 1 South in Woodbridge, NJ and all the sudden steering wheel fall January 29, 2023 . Was lucky there was no car behind and able to pull on divider. https://twitter.com/preneh24/status/1619889507133976580?s=48&t=-diw7ET9CNnRr31mHffyfw
