I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding my 2017 Ram 1500. The Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) module has been non-functional for approximately one year. I have been informed the replacement part has been on national backorder for nearly two years, with no clear timeline for repair. The ABS system is a critical safety component designed to prevent wheel lock-up, maintain steering control during emergency braking, and reduce stopping distances in wet or icy conditions. Without a functioning ABS module, the vehicle is at increased risk of skidding, loss of steering control, and extended stopping distances. In a full-size pickup truck, this creates a substantial risk of serious injury or death to occupants and others on the road. Additionally, related systems such as traction control and electronic stability control may be compromised. Online owner forums indicate this is an ongoing issue affecting many Stellantis-built vehicles, including Ram 1500 models. While...
I am reporting a persistent safety defect involving loss of intended drivability in my 2017 Ram 1500 with an 8-speed automatic transmission. For the past 3 years, on almost every use of the vehicle, the transmission enters an abnormal operating state where it becomes stuck in a single gear (most often 3rd or 4th) and will not upshift or downshift. When this occurs, the vehicle experiences reduced ability to accelerate and loss of normal drivability. The condition does not resolve while driving and requires me to pull over, shut the vehicle off, and restart it to restore operation. This defect has occurred multiple times at freeway speeds, requiring me to pull over onto the highway shoulder due to loss of vehicle function. A vehicle that cannot reliably shift or accelerate at highway speed presents a clear safety hazard to the driver and surrounding traffic. Requiring a stop-and-restart is not a...
I was driving my truck today. I went to turn on cruise control and as I got to the mileage that I wanted, I hit set and then after I hit set about a half mile down the road a truck after wanted to lose power and then allowed bang from the transmission then it did it again bang I turned the cruise control off. I pulled over and I looked it up and it told me do not use the cruise control again and try to get home safely and that’s exactly what I did.
The contact owned a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, the vehicle independently accelerated. The message “Service Electronic Throttle Body” warning light was illuminated. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
While driving on the highway at 70 MPH on cruise control the ABS and Traction Control lights came on and the cruise control stopped working. There was a warning message to have the ABS system serviced. This happened again two days later. The lights did not come on after restarting the truck. I took it into the dealer and the codes were C0020-1C and C0020-16. The shop said the ABS pump and ABS control module need to be replaced. The control module has been out of stock for 3 years according to the parts department. Reconditioning is an option but the chip to fix the module is no longer available. This one dealer has close to 20 trucks waiting for this part. The 2017 and 2018 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 were recalled for the ABS, but not the 1500. From my research it seems like the same parts...
My 2017 Ram 1500 is experiencing a critical failure of the ABS control module, resulting in persistent brake system warning lights, ABS warning, and electronic stability control (ESC) warning on the dashboard. This failure disables the anti-lock braking system, traction control, and cruise control, posing a significant safety risk, especially in adverse conditions where ABS is essential to prevent wheel lockup. The dashboard warning lights are constantly illuminated, creating distraction and driver fatigue. The dealership diagnosed the issue as a faulty ABS control module but informed me the part is on indefinite backorder with no estimated availability. They provided no interim solution, leaving me to drive an unsafe vehicle without ABS or cruise control, critical for long-distance highway travel. The absence of ABS increases the risk of skidding or loss of control during emergency braking, particularly on wet or slippery surfaces. The disabled ESC further compromises vehicle stability. This failure...
The anti lock brakes warning light is illuminated and dealership has no repair parts to fix the defect resulting in an unsafe condition. this also results in an inability to operate the cruise control function of the automobile . The condition has existed for over one year with no ability to obtain the needed repair parts to remedy the situation. obviously Stellantis has no interest in resolving this issue without the intervention of some regulatory authority.
The transmission control valve is taking over the truck. It is a huge safety concern. You have NO CONTROL over the vehicle when it happens.
My ABS module is bad. I have no traction control, or cruise control. My truck shows service trailer brake system, service electronic braking system, and service antilock brake system. I took it to my mechanic in October 2024 and he said there is no part available from Dodge. I took it to a Dodge dealer April 6, 2025 and they were going to send the ABS module off to be rebuilt, said it would take 3 to 4 days. They then called and said it would take one month to rebuild. I went and got my truck back, since I can’t be without it for a month. There are many owners on a forum for Ram 1500 with the same issue. Some are trading theirs in for a different vehicle because of this issue.
Check ABS System, Check Electric Brake System, Check Trailer Tow, icy/skid light, and emergency BRAKE dash lights are all on. Trailer brakes module will not engage electric trailer brakes when towing heavy equipment, cruise control will not function, and anti-skid brakes (Plusing brakes, instead of brakes lock-up) do not function. The latter lock-up of brakes is a huge safety issue. Dealer says Hydraulic Control unit and electric brake unit need to be replaced. The electric brake unit is not available. The Ram series 2500 and heavier have a recall on these failing parts. The Ram 1500 was not included in the recall, but has the same components that regulate the braking system. The recall needs to include all failing components regardless of the vehicle in which they are installed.
My ABS system is not working Anti-traction control and cruise control. Dealer says parts not available for last 2 years. No reasons for manufacturer delays. dealer says part cannot be ordered.
The NTSB requires that the manufacturer install ABS and SRS systems on the vehicle. The manufacturer, Ram is having issues supplying repair parts, the Anti Lock Break Control module is on national backorder with no idea of when it will be available. This is a serious safety issue and someone needs to review and determine if this can be corrected. I as well as many other vehicles are on the road without this important safety feature.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated the gear shift/rotary dial had seized in place. The vehicle failed to shift into park, and the key failed to release from the ignition switch. While driving, the vehicle jumped from park to reverse and then drive. The drive, reverse, park, and neutral warning lights were illuminated. While at a stop, the vehicle locked. While depressing the accelerator pedal, there was an abnormal revving sound detected. The vehicle was hesitating and was slow to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed as an electrical failure. The dealer informed the contact that the control module was not communicating with the TCM. The dealer scheduled an appointment. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also called Marion Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram 44 Worley Rd., Marion, NC 28752, Auto Star Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat of Waynesville...
I keep getting the service electronic stability control along with abs, no traction control,no remote start and no power whatsoever when I drive it happens mainly when it's cold outside but we have had this issue before and it was in and out of the dealerships garage for 8 months and the problem eventually went away after it got warm outside again. It is getting cold and now we can no longer drive our vehicle safely. I have heard of the recal of the 2019 and 2021-2025 models but I'm very confused as to why the other models aren't also recalled as there are thousands of complaints about the same or similar problems with my specific year of truck and others. Please fix this I am at a loss with my 40,000 truck that has 6 years left until it's paid off and I can't even drive it again.
The cruse control comes one when it wants to this is an intermittent problem and gives no warnings it has happened several times since we bought the truck
The NTSB requires that the manufacturer install ABS and SRS systems on the vehicle. While driving the vehicle, the cruise control disengages, the traction control light comes on, and the ABS light comes on along with a warning bell dinging incessantly! It may stay like this for hundreds of miles or may be intermittent. Sometimes I can restart the vehicle and it will reset and sometimes it won’t. I haven’t been able to replicate it for the dealership…although it’s been occurring for over a year now. Driving conditions don’t seem to make any difference as a cause. Wet, dry, smooth, or bumpy roads…it’s all the same.
Vehicle is a 2017 RAM 3.0L ECO-DIESEL. Vehicle's electronic throttle control service light came on. Vehicle was taken to dealership for diagnostic. Safety recall 66A/NHTSA 23V-411 was performed for software. Transmission was diagnosed with a bad Tone Wheel (RAM recall X94-Warranty Extension. Applies to RAM vehicles built on or after June 13, 2014 and on or before March 26, 2018 equipped with a 3.0L Turbo Diesel Engine). My vehicle is the make, type, model, and engine specific vehicle, however; it does not meet the VIN specificity for the X94 extended warranty coverage. I would like to know why.
Brake, ABS and traction control lights all came on and according to Dodge Dealer the cause is the ABS ECU control module and /or ABS hydraulic system. Dodge indicated ECU Control Module is on backorder pending engineering review so it does not make sense to replace only the hydraulic unit without replacing the ECU Module., They say it is safe to drive, however ABS, traction control, and cruise control will not operate.
Part# 68295368AC ABS control module failed about 3 months ago. Took to dealership to repair and they said no eta on when part will arrive and that there is a national shortage on the part and 100's of these are waiting to come in for repairs. Contact Dodge/Ram and basically told the same thing. Was told to just be careful and when part is available (no estimated ETA), they would let me know. This is same components being used in new vehicles currently being built but RAM is okay with "just being careful" on not having a government mandated safety feature since 2011. I offered to go and get the part on my own and no response to that option either. Ram knows this is a safety issue and is burying their head in the sand. My family safety and safety of others on the road is important to me....
Driving approx. 45 mph when truck lost acceleration. Truck began making clanking sound and check engine light came on and electronic throttle control light. Almost got into an accident due to someone almost rear ending me and then had to coast into a parking lot when I lost total control of all steering and almost hit a parked car. Truck would not restart, had to call for a tow back home that was 150+ miles because no dealerships close by would accept vehicle or had availability. Truck taken to local Dodge dealership and diagnosed with high pressure fuel pump failure and the eta for parts for a fix are unknown at the time. Have been without a truck or car for 2 weeks now, have 4 kids and both me and my wife work full time and now only have 1 car to get around in because the truck had...
While in gear the throttle has accelerated uncontrollably without a foot on the pedal. It has happened twice now and both times resulted in significant damage. Applying the brake made no difference they were just overpowered by the motor. The vehicle is going to be towed to a body shop to get a repair estimate. Last time the damage was about $14,000. The vehicle is not safe if you cannot control the speed. They thought last time my foot slipped of the brake onto the throttle but I said no it had not. I was to busy trying to control the truck to notice if any warning lights went on. However earlier in the day the cruise control would not turn on.
In two occasions, the vehicle speed locked on and the vehicle began accelerating out of control. The dash message lit up stating electronic throttle control service. A quick internet search shows it is a common problem. I know many ram owners who have the exhaust manifolds break repeatedly. Both are severe problems.
For the second time in about a year my truck has given the error code of "service electronic throttle control." I took it in and was told it was a computer update and it was fixed. Right at about a year later, the same error code appeared. With this error, power to the vehicle is reduced causing safety issues as your ability to maintain speed or accelerate is greatly diminished. I do not know if the part itself was inspected during the original service and computer update. There were no warning lamps or symptoms prior to the error message coming up on the instrument cluster.
CRUISE CONTROL WON'T TURN ON AND BUTTONS RELATED TO CRUISE CONTROL ARE UNRESPONSIVE. LAST TIME IT DID WORK ABOUT A MONTH AGO THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULDN'T TURN OFF WITH THE STEERING WHEEL BUTTON, HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES. VEHICLE HAD ALL RECALLS DONE, THERE WAS ONE RELATED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL. FIXED ONE THING NOW ALL THESE OTHER THINGS ARE HAPPENING. THAT'S MY ONLY COMPLAINT, THERE DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE ANOTHER RECALL FOR THIS.
CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM DISENGAGING DURING FREEWAY OPERATION. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RE-ENABLE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM, VEHICLE SHOWS CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM STILL ACTIVE. CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM MUST BE DEACTIVATED TO RE-ENABLE CRUISE CONTROL. THE SLOWING FORCE WAS SO NOTICEABLE, IT ALMOST FELT LIKE THE TRUCK WAS APPLYING BRAKES, OR TRANS BRAKE. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED 3-4 TIMES WITHING THE PAST WEEK.
COASTED OUT OF A CAR WASH; ENGINE ON, TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. AFTER EXITING THE WASH, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND SHIFTED FROM NEUTRAL INTO DRIVE. THE TRUCK ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL AND WOULD NOT BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID PEDESTRIANS, GAS PUMPS, AND THE STORE ENTRANCE. I WAS FORCED TO CRASH THE VEHICLE AGAINST A BUILDING TO GET IT TO STOP. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED WITH HEAVY FRONT END DAMAGE; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WHEN I RETURNED HOME, THERE AS AN EMAIL FROM THE VEHICLE'S ONBOARD HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM SAYING THAT AN ISSUE WAS DETECTED WITH THE AIR BAGS, WHICH MAY NOT DEPLOY. THE EMAIL WAS ISSUED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.*DT*JB*DT*JB*DT*JB *TR
DESPITE RECALL U61/NHTSA 18V-332 BEING COMPLETED ON MY PICKUP- ON 7/23/2018 I WAS SOUTHBOUND ON INTERSTATE 29 BETWEEN ST.JOSEPH AND KANSAS CITY MO THE MORNING OF OCTOBER 31, 2019. WE HAD SNOW, FREEZING PRECIPITATION, ETC THE EVE BEFORE AND DRIVING WAS TENUOUS AT BEST. WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL SET AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MILES PER HOUR TRAFFIC BEGAN TO SUDDENLY SLOW DUE TO NUMEROUS SLIDE OFFS AND ACCIDENTS. I TAPPED MY BRAKE TO SLOW AND DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL- AND THE IMMEDIATE RESPONSE WAS FOR THE ENGINE TO REV AND INCREASE RPM,S TO MAINTAIN SPEED. CONSTANT ATTEMPTS TO BRAKE AND OVER RIDE WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. I DEEMED IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE BRAKES TO STOP MY VEHICLE! A RED WARNING LIGHT "BRAKE" APPEARED ON THE DASH ALONG WITH A FEW LINES OF MESSAGE WHICH I COULD NOT READ DUE TO KEEPING MY EYES ON THE ROAD. I SOMEHOW MANAGED THE THOUGHT PROCESS OF...
TRIED TO GET RECALLS REPAIRED TOLD NO LOANER DONT DRIVE TRUCK...NO WAY TO GO TO WORK
RETURNING FROM A TRIP TO MI BACK TO MY RESIDENCE IN TN. AS I MADE A TURN INTO MY SUBDIVISION I STARTED TO ACCELERATE TO MY NEXT TURN WHEN I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF MY VEHICLE. I HAD BEEN USING THE VEHICLES CRUISE CONTROL AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE DURING THE 10 HOUR DRIVE HOME SO IT FELT FAMILIAR, LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE MY VEHICLE. AS THE VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING AND I WAS STEERING THE THROUGH THE CURVES IN THE ROAD I HAD REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL AND TRIED HITTING THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES. THIS HAD NO EFFECT IN STOPPING OR SLOWING THE ACCELERATION. THE TOTAL DISTANCE FROM MY TURN INTO THE SUBDIVISION TO THE END OF THE ROAD OR NEXT INTERSECTION WAS ROUGHLY 250-300 YARDS ALL DOWNHILL SO WE PICKED UP SPEED QUICKLY. BY THE TIME I REALIZED I...
THE CRUISE CONTROL ACCELERATED AT A HUGE RATE PAST THE DESIRED SPEED RESULTING IN A HYDRO PLANE WHICH CAUSED ALL SIDES OF THE VEHICLE TO IMPACT HOWEVER ONLY PASSENGER BAGS DEPLOYED NOT A SINGLE DRIVER BAG. *DT*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V332000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) WAS RECEIVED IN JUNE OF 2018. THE LOCAL DEALER (LARRY H. MILLER CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM BOISE, 222 AUTO DR., BOISE, ID) INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE RECALL WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THE CRUISE CONTROL TURNED ITSELF ON, WHILE TRYING TO TURN IT OFF THE GAS ACCELERATED AND I WAS UNABLE TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE SPEED AS IT KEPT RISING, CAUSING ME TO GO INTO THE DITCH STRIKING A 6 FT CULVERT TILE AND FLIPPING MY VEHICLE. *DSY *TR
SOMETIMES THE TRUCK WON'T RECOGNIZE THE KEY FOBS. TRUCK INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL CONTINUE TO DISPLAY KEY FOB HAS LEFT THE VECHILE AND THE CHIME CONTINUE TO SOUND EVEN THO I HAVE THE KEY FOB IN MY POSSESSION. I CAN PUT THE VECHILE IN GEAR AND DRIVE BUT INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL CONTINUE TO DISPLAY KEY FOB HAS LEFT THE VECHILE AND THE CHIME WON'T STOP SOUNDING. (I HAVE VIDEOS AND PICTURES OF THIS ISSUE) . ALSO WHEN I USED THE SPEED CONTROL AT A STEADY SPEED AND THAN USE THE CRUISE CONTROL TO REDUCE THE SPEED WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT DIFFERENTLY. THE TRANSMISSION DELAY SHIFTING ENGAGEMENT . (THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VECHILE FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL AND AT THE MOMENT MY TRUCK IS IN THE DEALER GETTING THE RECALL DONE , TRANSMISSION SHIFTING PROBLEM LOOKED AT AND...
WHEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL BETWEEN 30 AND 45 MPH, WHEN RESUMING THE VEHICLE WILL GAIN UP TO 10MPH OVER THE SET SPEED AND THE RPMS WILL SIT AT 4K UNTIL CRUISE CONTROL IS DISENGAGED. THIS OCCURS ON INCLINES, DECLINES AND FLAT SURFACES. THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY TWO DEALERSHIPS ON THIS VEHICLE. ONE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED IT ON OTHER 2017 RAM 1500S WITH 3.6L ENGINE. FCA US LLC STATES THAT THIS IS "AS DESIGNED".
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 RAM 1500. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW 30 DEGREES, THE RPMS INCREASED TO APPROXIMATELY 1,100 WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RUSSELL BARNETT FORD (4055 TULLAHOMA HWY, WINCHESTER, TN 37398) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FLASH SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE RESET AND THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY, THE DEALER INSTALLED AN AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: [XXX]. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO A RESOLUTION TEAM. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,003. *BF INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 RAM 1500. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE ELECTRIC THROTTLE CONTROL SENSOR INDICATOR SUDDENLY ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. DURING THE INCIDENT, THE RPM'S CONTINUED TO REV EXTREMELY HIGH AND THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DRIVER SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (BAUMANN AUTOMOTIVE IN NORWALK, OH), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT YET DETERMINED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE FLATBED TRUCK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 978.
