Replaced the frozen suspension last year. Now that it’s cold again, similar codes are being thrown with new ones: Service Trailer Brake System, Service Air Suspension System, Service Electronic Braking System. To note, I’ve had a “Check Fuel Cap” code for years. It’s tied to 3 sensors along the fuel tank and absolutely nothing to do with the fuel cap itself. For the air suspension sensors (WHICH I’VE ALREADY REPLACED ONCE), and the fuel cap sensors— they all run nearly $300 a pop and that isn’t including labor. I personally cannot financially keep up with the vehicle’s maintenance costs. The fact that Canada had a class action lawsuit against FCA for the air suspension but we don’t is baffling. I pray nothing comes from these defective parts because I will be suing.
The air suspension in my 2017 Ram 1500 Rebel has gone out once again. I’ve had all of the air bags and compressor replaced once before and it has already gone out again, causing a very bumpy and unsafe ride. It is currently cold where I live, however, this problem started again during the summer time and is not due to the cold temperatures. Ram needs to fix this issue as I can’t continue paying for a defective suspension. While looking online, this is an extremely common problem and I’m wondering what more it will take before there is a recall? Please let me know what can be done to get this fixed for good. Thank you for your time and help.
My air suspension suddenly dropped out while I was driving and almost caused me to get into an accident. It was very cold outside.
Steering goes in and out, stability control keeps acting up and light stays on, and service braking. Contacted RAM dealership, and was told that the recall was already completed before I owned it. It seems odd that the same symptoms are showing up again. I can’t drive the truck safely. The steering locks up and hard to turn. The anti-lock brakes are activated when using brakes.
My rear airbag suspension consistently looses air pressure and drops to the lowest setting. The dealer is unable to find a cause of the issue. It is a safety issue because I use the truck to pull a camper and if I loose the rear air suspension while towing, I would loose stability and possible cause an accident. There are no warning lights that there is a problem with anything and the diagnostics performed by the dealer show no failure codes.
Air suspension stopped working. Rear driver side drops with out noticed at anytime while parked or driving. My safety concern is that it will drop low enough while driving on the highway and cause for my truck to roll over. I have read about others having the same issues with the air suspension in the front, back or both. I was going to take it to the dealership but reading online from different souses and other that have the same problems the dealer had not fully fix the problem. Am not in the position to leave my vehicle in the services department of the dealership for then not to fix the problem.
WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK AND THE AIR SUSPENSION STOPPED WORKING. MY TRUCK IS ROUGHLY 2-3 INCHES FROM THE GROUND. BOTH OF MY FRONT TIRES ARE POINTING INWARD WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT FROM THE FRONT FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE MOTOR ON THE DEFLATED SUSPENSION. HITS SMALL BUMPS LIKE EXPLOSIONS. VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IF I KEEP DRIVING IT THE WAY IT IS THE FRONT BALL JOINT OR WHEEL BEARINGS ARE GOING TO COME OFF. THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS AND HAS NOT MADE ANY REASONABLE FIXES FOR IT. TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND SO FAR I AM IN $2000.00 WITHOUT BEING FIXED. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. IF YOU READ SOME OF THESE MESSAGE BOARDS ONLINE THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF THESE VEHICLES DOING THIS. I CAN NOT DRIVE ABOVE 45MPH WITHOUT THE FRONT END BOUNCING UP AND...
The air ride system automatically inflates and deflates while driving, the truck tilts to one side because it only raises one side. It effects driving and the vehicle pulls to one side
Power steering failed while driving. Replace the power steering rack (dealership replaced it). It still failing due to the torque sensor or the steering wheel, a steering wheel angle sensor being faulty,. Very dangerous if the vehicles power steering randomly stops doing its job while in motion.
The contact owns a 2017 RAM 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the "Immediate Air Suspension Service Repair Required" warning message Illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle and the warning message functionality returned. The vehicle was taken independent mechanic where there was an unknown diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to a lawsuit article he read online. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Truck was lowered to the entry/exit position using the adjustment buttons for the factory air suspension while in park when picking up my daughter from school. When attempting to raise the truck back to the normal ride height setting, the rear of the truck raised but the front did not and will not. Also the rear will not lower back down to match the front now either.
Air suspension failure. Unsafe to drive with air suspension that will not hold or set air pressure for the system.
Air suspension system is having numerous fault codes and operational issues, that have been occurring since January of 2024. The dealer just clears all of the codes and says there is nothing saved in the various modules, but yet I myself have a scanned trouble code listing showing the faults. The truck sometimes will be riding on the frame because the air suspension becomes inoperatable.
The air ride suspension system failed after a stretch of below-freezing temperatures, the front end was lowered and the rear end elevated. The vehicle had 91k miles on it and required a new compressor and valve block.
Same issues as everyone else, cold weather north dakota, suspension errors, components were fully replaced last winter. All issues happening again. Loss of air, drooped side, .....
Air suspension completely fails when the weather reaches below zero. When the air suspension fails there is nothing protecting the driver due to the bumpiness of the ride. Your head will constantly hit the headrest the entire ride. Air suspension can also fail while the truck is in motion.
AIR SUSPENSION FAILURE
On a irregular basis, would get warning messages and dash warning lights about " Service Anti-lock Brake system" , and " Service Electronic Brake System", and vehicle would start to immediately lose power and in some locations, would be on an open highway at highway speeds. Would have to pull off road to try and cycle truck off and on to regain operation. Getting rear-ended on the highway is NOT an option due to a faulty module or braking system...!! NO pre warning lights or symtpons, it just happens.
While hard accelerating from a stop light and towing a moderately loaded trailer (~ 3,000 lbs), I felt the turbo engage and heard a loud bang and felt the rear end get wobbly. The truck pulled violently to the right and I instantly lost accelaration and heard something dragging on the concrete, I coasted into the left turn lane and got out to find my driveshaft had broke at the rear differential yoke and was resting on the ground, still attached to the transfer case. I hopped back in and put it in 4wd to power the front tires to limp to a safe location about 100 yards down the road. Upon closer inspection both upper control arm ends that attached to a frame via a bushing broke causing the differential to rotate to the point the rear u-joint yoke broke off the drive shaft. I called a dealer but...
Repeated alert to service electronic braking system. Had code read it said right front wheel erratic response from wheel speed sensor. Had sensor changed no change to error code, now the traction control light and passenger seat airbag light has come on. This is a 2017 ram tradesmen with approximately 70k mileage
Air suspension issues at 50k miles my truck rides lop sided half the time. Some days it works fine other days the driver side is sitting lower than the passenger or the backs lower than the front it’s never the same issue. Sometimes it don’t work at all. Which is crazy with only 50k miles
Electric assist steering failure, truck is getting hard to steer either direction. Air ride system is bouncing like having no suspension at all, went into dealer and they report that the compressor, control board and manifold all need to be replaced. Vehicle only has 68,000 miles.
When the temperature dropped below -10F last Thursday, the front air suspension dropped to the bump stops and remained there until the temperature rose to above 32 degreesF. This made the truck unable to steer completely to the right or left, greatly lengthening the time and distance required to make a turn, lane change, etc. In effect, the vehicle is unsafe to drive under those conditions. No error code was generated during this length of time.
Air suspension fails repeatedly in cold weather. Vehicle has been repaired twice under manufacturer warranty and extended warranty. I am concerned that if this fails while the vehicle in motion an accident may result. There are many documented cases of this issue and, as I read online, a pending class action lawsuit in Canada as a result.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated while making a right turn, the contact felt as if the vehicle was going to flip over. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but no failure was found. On another occasion, while driving 20 MPH and going over a speed bump, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the suspension system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 72,000. The VIN was not available.
The air suspension system has failed completely. Without warning the driverside suspension deflated at 65mph. This causes the steering to pull to the left very quickly and could easily cause loss of control of the truck. The problem occurred with out warning. The dealers response is to not drive the truck and wait 3 weeks for a diagnostic test and then a month or longer to get parts.
Air ride suspension drops to bump stops when it rains. Causing the truck to have no suspension give that can cause severe damage. Truck has been at the dealers over this problem multiple times, they do not know what is causing the system to fail now. They have replaced the main components and the truck is still sitting on all 4 bump stops unable to drive.
My truck has been parked at a Dodge Service Center for three days. I've been told the suspension has failed and needs to be replaced. The cost will be approximately $4,000. I've never been in an accident. I've never used the truck to tow anything. I don't drive off-road. I DO perform regular maintenance before the recommended time/mileage. I use quality products (oils, filters, brakes, etc.). No 5 year old vehicle should have a failed suspension from regular commuter/family driving. The suspension has been finicky for over two years mainly occurs in the colder months. My friend owns the same model truck (can provide VIN if needed) and his truck's suspension failed after year one. Luckily, it was still under warranty but took multiple trips to the dealership and much hassle to fully repair/replace his truck's suspension. Prior to my truck's suspension completely failing rendering it not drivable, there were...
TL * THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A SHIMMY IN THE FRONT-END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVESHAFT AND POWER TRAIN WERE INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COMMUNITY MOTORS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (500 WESTIN OAKS DR, HAMMOND, LA 70403, (985) 345-0401) HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT SPEEDS OF 15-65 MPH. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND IT SEEMS AS IF THE TRUCK DOESN'T WANT TO STOP. I WAS TOLD THIS IS DUE TO THE ROTORS WARPING. IF THIS HAPPENS TO A DODGE / RAM PICKUPS THEY SHOULD PROBABLY UPGRADE THE DISCS AND PADS FOR BETTER STOPPING AND STABILIZING.
MY TRUCK HAS HAD AIR-SUSPENSION PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED IT BACK IN 2017. THE AIR SUSPENSION WILL COMPLETELY BOTTOM OUT THE TRUCK WHICH MAKES DRIVING UNSAFE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT TAKES ME TWICE AS LONG TO BREAK WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND IF I HIT A BUMP ON THE FREEWAY IT WILL MAKE EVERYBODY INSIDE THE TRUCK JOLT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS IN COLDER TEMPERATURES THE AIR RIDE SUSPENSION FAILED TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS MORE PREVALENT WITH TEMPERATURE AT 10 DEGREES AND BELOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO (LOCKWOOD MOTORS LOCATED AT 1310 E COLLEGE DR, MARSHALL, MN 56258) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR SUSPENSION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE AIR SUSPENSION ON MY 2017 RAM 1500 HAS MALFUNCTIONED. IT WILL GO FROM WORKING GOOD, TO NO SUSPENSION AT ANY TIME WITH NO WARNING. THEN THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL HAVE NO SUSPENSION, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL JACK UP TO OFF ROAD 2. AGAIN, WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR ME DOING ANYTHING TO PROMPT IT. MAKES THE TRUCK VERY SQUIRRELY TO DRIVE.
SUDDEN LOSE OF FRONT AIR SUSPENSION WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING, NEGATIVELY EFFECTED THE VEHICLES STABILITY, STEERING, AND ABILITY TO STOP. TRUCK IS CURRENTLY AT DEALER. ONLY EXPLANATION GIVEN IS IT MIGHT BE BECAUSE ITS COLD OUTSIDE (WHICH HAS BEEN KNOWN TO HAPPEN IN WINTER).
WELL DOCUMENTED, KNOWN SERVICING ISSUES WITH 'AIR RIDE SUSPENSION' SYSTEM INSTALLED IN 2017 RAM 1500 TRUCK. A SIMPLE ONLINE INVESTIGATIVE SEARCH REVEALS COUNTLESS SCORES OF SERVICE CASES AND HIGHLY CATASTROPHIC FAILURES OF MANY ASPECTS OF THIS EQUIPMENT SYSTEM WHICH HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO THE MANUFACTURER (RCA CORPORATION) FOR MANY MANY YEARS AND THESE FAILURES OF THIS SUSPENSION SYSTEM CONTINUE TO HAUNT CONSUMERS AND HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS AMONGST OTHER INCONVENIENCES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 RAM 1500. WHILE THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE MORE THAN 60 MPH. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MAZDA OF MESQUITE (LOCATED AT 15900 LYNDON B JOHNSON FWY, MESQUITE, TX 75150, (972) 686-6200), BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE DEALER REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
CONSTANT VIBRATING AND SHAKING FROM THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK THAT CAN'T SEEM TO BE FIXED! WAS AT SPEEDS ABOVE 65MPH. NOW IT'S ALL SPEEDS!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CROWN DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (LOCATED AT 6300 KING DR, VENTURA, CA 93003) TO BE REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL REGARDING THE TAILGATE, INFO TIMING SYSTEM, GPS, FUEL TANK, AND THE SENDING UNIT. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER AND DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR END. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE AIR ROD SUSPENSION DID NOT HAVE AIR. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BOUNCED DUE TO LACK OF AIR IN THE SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO SHAVER CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM & FIAT (3888 THOUSAND OAKS BLVD, THOUSAND OAKS, CA 91362, (805) 496-7103), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE...
IN TEMPS BELOW ZERO AIR SUSPENSION FAILS
AIR SUSPENSION FAILURE. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW ZERO DEGREES FAHRENHEIT , THE AIR SUSPENSION FAILS AND SITS ALL THE WAY DOWN ON THE BUMP STOPS, OR LEANS TO THE LEFT DRAMATICALLY. IT STAYS THAT WAY UNTIL THE DEALERSHIP CAN TAKE IT IN, WHICH CAN BE WEEKS.
AIR SUSPENSION WILL STOP WORKING CAUSING THE TRUCK TO RIDE DIRECTLY ON THE FRAME. ALSO, THE FRONT WILL DEFLATE WHILE THE BACK IS STILL INFLATED. ANY TIME THIS HAPPENS THE FUSE FOR THE AIR SUSPENSION IS BLOWN. HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS SINCE PURCHASING THE TRUCK. OCCURS WHILE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND NOT IN OPERATION.
TAKATA RECALL. IN THE WINTER MONTHS THERE ARE A HOST OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. AT TIMES, THE RADIO WILL NOT TUTN OFF AFTER I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. THE ONLY FIX WAS YO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE BACKUP CAMERA GOES COMPLETELY GREEN ALSO. THE AIR SUSPENSION FAILS SEVERAL TIMES PER WEEK DURING THE WINTER MONTHS AS WELL. I HAVE IT PARKED OUTSIDE ALL THE TIME.
VEHICLE HAS HAD 4 COMPLETE SET OF TIRES, PLUS 2.... VEHICLE STARTS SHAKING AND WOBBLE WHILE DRIVING AT 68-72MPH. RAM REFUSES TO LOOK INTO THIS. SOMETHING I THINK IN DRIVE LINE OR REAR CAUSING ALL THESE PROBLEM. SOMETHING IS CAUSING TIRE DAMAGE..OUT OF ROUND AND RADIAL RUN OUT. SHAKING AND WOBBLE HAVE NEVER STOP WITH ALL THESE TIRES AND BALANCES. I HAVE ALL RO'S IF WANTED
