My husband and I had just cranked up our 2023 Nissan Rogue to warm up before putting our newborn in. Suddenly, it sounded like a gunshot. My husband looked back and the windshield had spontaneously shattered. Our back windshield just malfunctioned and we immediately called our Nissan dealer to report it. If we had started driving with our newborn in the back seat he could have seriously been injured.There were no warning signs or indications. Currently waiting on it to be inspected by the dealership, and insurance.

My car had been parked while I was at work. I was the only person there. I got in the driver's side seat and put my purse in the passenger seat. I heard a lost pop and the back glass exploded in the hatch.

My back windshield shattered while driving at 25 miles an hour with no other cars around me. Sounded like a gunshot.

In August 2024, I purchased a 2023 Nissan Rogue. On January 12, 2025, after a cold front brought ice and snow into our area in North Mississippi, I noticed that the rear windshield was busted. When I contacted my insurance provider, I was informed that there was no information stating that this issue was expected. I filed a claim and had a new windshield installed.

Was driving in early morning heard a thud sound and discovered back window on hatch had shattered. No one was around, I did have the rear defrost on and not the wiper.

As I was driving down the road, I heard a loud noise and the back windshield spontaneously cracked into tiny little pieces all throughout the entire back windshield. I parked and when I closed my door chunks of the back windshield fell off as well.

I found that the back windshield of my 2023 Nissan Rogue, which I had parked in my garage, was chipped, and the glass shards were scattered on the ground.

At 7:20am on Dec 5, 2025, we used the remote start on our 2023 nissan rogue which was in our unopened garage. We heard a loud sound and walked out to find the back window shattered. It looks like it blew out by the heating element (defroster) on the window. It was roughly 10 degrees outside and maybe 40-50 degrees in our garage. We have not had this issue in the nearly 2.5 years we have owned this vehicle.

Back window completely broke while in my garage overnight

While driving down a paved rural road, with no other vehicles around the back window of the lift gate spontaneously shattered. The back window had sustained no damage and had no projectiles exiting or entering the vehicle. The weather conditions are cold and wet and the rear defroster was on at the time.

The rear window suddenly burst/ cracked/ shattered from the inside out.

On Sunday, Nov. 2nd, 2025, about 3:50pm EST, I was driving East on Hwy 25, 5 miles west of near Knox Central High School, heading towards Barbourville, Ky. I was coming from Kingsport, Tn heading to Corbin, Ky to take my mother to her cancer doctors in Lexington on Monday, the 3rd. I was driving 55 mph, in the left lane, the weather was foggy, gray, temp 45 degrees. It was 62 when I left home. I had just turned on both my defrosters because the windows were fogging up. My back window shattered for no reason. I had been driving for about 20 minutes. The ac was on my feet and not for the rear defrost. My [XXX] was in her booster seat in the back seat. We heard an explosion. I looked back to see a softball sized hole in my back window. I called Lumberton Nissan and the General Manager was very rude and was "mansplaining" how he is just a supplier and not responsible for windows exploding. There was no lawn or road work happening. There are no bullet holes in my vehicle. No rocks were found. The location I bought my vehicle from told me to make a claim with my insurance. I ended up just calling a mobile windshield vendor that my employer uses for their vehicles. I work for a Dodge dealership. While the repair is fixed, this has left my daughter scared...

The car had been garaged since Thursday evening and all day Friday. Used it Saturday morning to drive 5 miles, went into my location and when i came out 2 hours later, the rear window on the liftgate was crumbled. Nothing impacted it to cause this. Just shattered on it's own. Temperature was 62 F.

The front, movable section of my panoramic sunroof unexpectedly exploded/shattered while driving. There were no other vehicles in front of me and it was a clear sunny day with nothing overhead. The sunroof and cover were closed. If the cover had been opened, glass shards would've hit the occupants inside the cabin. The sound was an extremely loud bang similar to a shotgun. The sound caused me to brake and slightly swerve. Fortunately, there were no other vehicles nearby and I was able to pullover safely. There was a large chunk of glass missing and quite a bit of small shards on top of the cover. Glass shards continued to fall off while driving home.

I entered the 2023 Nissan Rogue around [XXX] on St. Simons Island GA, on [XXX] with my granddaughter. Upon shutting the doors, the rear hatchback window exploded into pieces and blew out. I had not left the parking place or cranked the car. The glass pieces were all over the road and on the inside of my car. The police were called and a report was filed. How was my safety put at risk? Besides being shocked and traumatized at what sounded like a gunshot, I am now concerned about driving this car again with a new rear window because I fear it could happen again at any time. I am also suffering from a form of PTSD with super loud noise. (I jumped off my yoga mat when someone dropped a metal cup that made a very loud noise during our practice.) I asked the dealership why it happened...

There was no incident, just routine occurrences of the following that could lead to one: 1) the wipers do not clear the upper right (passenger) side of the windshield, creating a blind spot, which is especially dangerous when turning. Photo attached, though note this is a mild instance and visibility can be much worse. 2) the rearview camera has been blacking out while the car is in reverse. The black screen lasts about a second and is becoming more common, maybe once a day. 3) the power steering goes out occasionally, which I am strong enough to deal with, but would be difficult for my children (who also drive the car) to deal with.

Rear window shattered without previous damage or impact of any object. Vehicle was parked in the middle of a garage, temperature was 32F and driver was present during event. Heard loud noise followed by rear glass shattering and fragments flying all the way to back seat passengers. Nobody was hurt, but glass shards had to be removed from their hair/ clothing. Problem has not been reproduced in dealership, but multiple reports for same vehicle have been filed online. Vehicle has not been inspected by insurance, as they will not cover it. There were no warning signs, or evidence of malfunction. Glass was inspected that same day before driving, had no cracks or breaks. Rear wiper was off when this happened.

The rear window of the vehicle exploded with no impact. After backing out of my driveway I was pulling forward down the street and my rear window exploded. There was a pop and crackle sound. There was no evidence on the vehicle that something struck the window nor was there anything seen in the cameras around my home. When I got out of the vehicle and shut my door the glass fell into the trunk of the car and a piece went into the door handle which shorted it out and it needed to be replaced after the glass was replaced.

Rear window shield busted randomly in cold. Car was parked and when I returned to parked car the rear window was shattered.

Back window exploded. On interstate 55 mile marker 265. No other vehicles were close. No debris on the road. This is happening to Nissan vehicles.

Rear window of car spontaneously exploded inward and completely shattered. Vehicle was parked/stationary when this happened in a covered garage. No sudden temperature changes, no external or internal damage to the window before the window exploded.

Back window shattered

The screen for the Rear view camera is turning off for couple of seconds during the reversing of the car. During that time there is no visibility in the rear of the car and can cause an colossion.
