MY FLOORBOARDS ON MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA ARE ROTTING THROUGH ON MY PASSENGER SIDE. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 70K MILES . IT IS IN GREAT CONDITION. I'M WORRIED THAT MY PASSENGERS FEET MAY GO THROUGH THE FLOOR. I'VE OWNED A FEW CARS AND I'VE NEVER SEEN FLOORBOARDS ROT LIKE THIS.IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM....JUST GOOGLE IT.... ON A RECENT TRIP FOR OIL CHANGE I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT A SPOT OF RUST ON THE REAR QUARTER PANEL. THEY SAID A BRACKET WAS RUSTING THAT HOLDS THE REAR QUARTER PANEL ON. THE REAL PROBLEM, THEY POINTED OUT WAS THE SEVERE RUST UNDER THE FRONT FLOORBOARDS, BOTH PASSENGER'S AND DRIVER'S SIDE. I WAS HOPING TO GET ABOUT 6,000 FOR THE CAR TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF A NEW ONE. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE ENGINE RUNS GREAT IT IS VERY UPSETTING TO KNOW THAT IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I SAW A TV NEWS STORY ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMAS HAVING RUSTED OUT FLOORBOARDS. I CHECKED UNDERNEATH MY NISSAN ALTIMA AND THE FLOORBOARD IS RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT WHERE THERE IS A HOLE IN IT. YOU CAN PUT YOUR FINGER IN IT AND CHIP AWAY THE METAL IN THE FLOORBOARD. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THIS HOLE IS ONLY GOING TO GET BIGGER AS THE METAL WILL RUST EVEN MORE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. DUE TO CORROSION ON THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE, A HOLE DEVELOPED ON THE DRIVER SIDE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RUST MUST BE REMOVED AND A METAL PLATE MUST BE WELDED TO REPAIR THE HOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. FLOOR BOARDS UNDERNEATH PASSENGER SIDES ARE ROTTING THROUGH...WHY??!!!!!!!!! *JS
HAD MY NISSAN IN FOR A OIL CHANGE AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT BOTH THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS SIDE FLOOR BOARDS WERE ROTTED OUT. THERE IS NOT ANOTHER SPEC OF RUST ON THIS CAR. THANK GOODNESS FOR CARPET AND FLOOR MATS AS THAT IS ALL THAT IS BETWEEN ME AND THE ROAD. CALLED NISSAN TO REPORT ISSUE/ASK FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD NO. THEY STATED THAT MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN FOR SERVICE AND IS OLD THEREFORE THEY WOULD NOT BE OFFERING ME ANY ASSISTANCE. EXPLAINED THAT MY B/F IS A MECHANIC AND HAS BEEN THE ONE MAINTAINING THIS CAR AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO PROVIDE THEM WITH ALL THE SERVICE RECORDS, BUT NISSAN DIDN'T CARE. CONTINUED TO TELL ME THAT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS OLD THEY WOULD NOT BE OFFERING ASSISTANCE. I LET HIM KNOW THROUGH MY RESEARCH THAT PEOPLE WERE HAVING LUCK GETTING NISSAN TO PAY FOR...
A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING UNDERNEATH MY CAR. I HAD ASSUMED IT WAS A BRANCH OR SOMETHING AS SIMPLE. I ASKED A COUPLE OF CO-WORKERS IF THEY WOULDN'T MIND CHECKING IT OUT FOR ME. BOTH TOLD ME IT WAS A PIECE OF METAL HANGING BELOW THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE AUTO BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS PUT ON A LIFT TO BE INSPECTED. I ALSO LOOKED AT THE CAR ALONG WITH THE SHOP'S OWNER AND OTHER MECHANIC. THE PASSENGER FLOORBOARD HAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH TO THE INTERIOR, A HOLE LARGE ENOUGH TO PUT ONE'S FOOT THROUGH IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE CARPETING. THE REST OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS EXAMINED THEN THE BODY. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGN OF RUST ON THIS VEHICLE WHATSOEVER. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AGAINST THIS MODEL FOR THE EXACT SAME TYPE SITUATION. *TR

TOOK THE CAR TO REPAIR SHOP FOR O/C AND WAS TOLD I HAD SLIGHT RUST UNDERNEATH PASSENGER DOOR. WAS TOLD IT SHOULD BE ALRIGHT FOR ANOTHER INSPECTION. WHEN I WENT FOR INSPECTION I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T INSPECT IT BECAUSE THE RUST HAD GOTTEN SO BAD IN THAT SAME AREA. I PAID CLOSE TO $500. FOR REPAIR AND WAS ALSO TOLD BY OTHERS THAT IT WAS A COMMON COMPLAINT FOR THAT YEAR CAR AND THAT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW AND HAS BEEN SINCE CHANGED.CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RUN IN THE SALT AND WAS TOLD IT WAS WATER GETTING UP INSIDE THE ARE MENTIONED BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN FLAW AND SITTING THERE TO CAUSE THE RUST. WAS REALLY UPSET ABOUT THIS CONSIDERING THE CAR IS IN FANTASTIC SHAPE .. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD HELP FOR THE REPAIRS... I ALSO WAS TOLD I BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE THE CAR...

ON AUGUST 18, 2014, AFTER DROPPING MY SON OFF AT SCHOOL. I CAME TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED, I STARTED TO TAKE OFF AND NOTICED THE CAR HAS SHUT DOWN. I EVENTUALLY MADE IT HOME WITH THE CAR GOING A VERY LOW SPEED AND THEN SPEED UP, BUT WHEN CAR TO A START THE ENGINE STALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS PUT ON A COMPUTER TO SEE WHAT THE DIAGNOSIS WERE AND IT WAS THE CAMSHAFT SENSORS AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR COSTING $80 DOLLARS FOR TWO AND $70 FOR ANOTHER, HOWEVER THESE ITEMS HAS BEEN CHANGED ALONG WITH A TUNE UP AND THE CAR IS DOING THE SAME. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE COMPUTER, I NOTICED THERE WERE RECALLS ON THE CRANKSHAFT SENSORS AND THE ECM. I CONTACTED NISSAN DEALER, AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT SHOWING SO...

I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE CALL NISSAN CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS WITH THE SAME "SORRY" RESPONSE. NISSAN IS LOOKING AT A VERY LARGE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT...
MY CAR FAILED MA INSPECTION BECAUSE THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR PAN IS RUSTED OUT. THE HOLE IS APPROXIMATELY 12 BY 10 INCHES. I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. NISSAN REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. NISSAN CLAIMS IT IS CAUSED BY SALT IN THE NORTH EAST, BUT IF THAT WAS TRUE, THE ENTIRE FLOOR PAN WOULD HAVE RUST, NOT JUST ISOLATED TO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. LET ME REPEAT, THE REST OF THE FLOOR PAN IS FLAWLESS, NO SIGNS OF RUST WHATSOEVER. CLEARLY THIS IS A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING FLAW. SOME CUSTOMERS HAVE BOTH FRONT SIDES RUSTED OUT. MY PASSENGER SIDE IS FINE AS THE ASSEMBLY LINE "HOLE" HAS BEEN PROPERLY FILLED IN. I HAVE TO ASSUME THE DRIVER SIDE WAS LEFT OPEN. THIS CAR HAS VERY LITTLE MILAGE ONLY 25000 MILES (42000KM) AND THE PASSANGER FLOOR BOARD IS ROTTED OUT. I BELIEVE THAT THIS WEAKENS THE BODY INTEGRITY OF THE CAR. IT ALLOWS FUMES TO ENTER THE CAR AND WEAKENS THE FLOOR FOR POSSIBLY PUTTING FOOT OR FEET THROUGH FLOOR BOARD. DEFINITELY A DESIGN FLAW AND SAFETY ISSUE. THEY'VE REFERRED ME TO WITH NISSAN REGIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS REGARDING THE RUSTED OUT FLOORBOARDS. I APPRECIATED THEIR "SURPRISE" AND "NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE". WHEN I TOLD HIM IT HOW BAD THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR RUST PROBLEM SHE SAID THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING RIGHT NOW WITH THAT BECAUSE IT'S NORMAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATE DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION, SHE WAS ADVISED BY DEALER THAT THE FLOOR BOARDS ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT FLOOR BOARDS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
WHILE CHANGING MY OIL I INSPECTED THE UNDERBODY OF MY CAR AND NOTICED A RUSTED OUT AREA OF FLOORBOARD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I CHECKED FURTHER SAW THAT AN AREA THE SIZE OF A LARGE GRAPEFRUIT IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I LOOKED AT THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SEE THE START OF THE SAME DAMAGE DUE TO RUST. THERE APPEARS TO BE A DRAIN HOLE WHERE THE RUST STARTS. ON THE PASSENGER SIDE YOU CAN SEE THE ORIGINAL DRAIN HOLE AND THE RUST STARTING AROUND IT. ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, THE RUST IS EXTENSIVE ENOUGH THAT THE DRAIN HOLE IS SIMPLY GONE. IN TALKING WITH REPAIRS SHOPS AND CHECKING THE INTERNET I CAN SEE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH NISSAN ALTIMA'S OF MY DESIGN - 2002- 2006. MY 2005 ALTIMA WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY WHEN MY SON NOTICED A LARGE PIECE OF RUST UNDER THE PASSENGER FRONT FLOOR. I PULLED UP THE CARPET AND FOUND A 6" BY 16" HOLE IN THE FLOOR. I CONTACTED NISSAN FOR GOODWILL WHICH WAS DECLINED. I WAS A NISSAN CERTIFIED MASTER TECHNICIAN FOR 21 YEARS AND A SERVICE MANAGER FOR THE LAST 2.
