TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE FLOOR BOARDS WERE SEVERELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 65,000.
VEHICLE FLOOR UNDER BODY BELOW PASSENGER AND DRIVER SEAT HAS RUSTED AND ABOUT TO GET A HOLE. I CALLED NISSAN SERVICE CENTER AND THEY SAY ITS NOT IN WARRANTY. BUT ITS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE MODEL IS JUST 7 YEARS OLD WITH 89000 MILES ON IT. *TR
I WAS CHANGING THE OIL ON MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA AND REALIZED THE FLOORBOARDS ARE NEARLY COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. I LIFTED THE CARPET INSIDE THE CABIN AND REALIZED IT IS RUSTED THROUGH. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED AT THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGES. WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT THE FLOORBOARDS THEY STATED NISSAN ALTIMA 2005 HAD A 5 YEAR CORROSIVE WARRANTY FOR THE UNDERBODY AND IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY FOR THIS REPAIR. I AM CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THIS MODEL. THE RUSTED FLOORBOARDS ARE NEAR THE FRONT DRIVER SEATS. I AM ALSO CONCERNED BECAUSE OF WATER OR MOLD NEAR THE FRONT FLOOR VENTS COULD ENTER THE CABIN THROUGH THE RUSTED FLOORBOARDS. I GOT USED 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA, WHEN I GOT I DIDN'T CHECK UNDER CAR. AFTER FEW MONTHS I WAS AT DEALER FOR RECALLS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CAR HAS RUSTED FLOORBOARD PAN AND ITS BIG HOLE IN BODY , THROUGH THAT WE CAN TOUCH THE CARPET OF INSIDE CAR, AND THAT KIND OF 2 BIG( APPROX. 8-10 INCH) SPOT , ONE DRIVER SIDE AND ONE PASSENGER SIDE, I TRIED TO CONTACT NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS , BUT THEY SAID ITS NOT COVERED WITH WARRANTY OR ANY KIND OF RECALLS , MEANS I HAVE TO FIX THEM BY MYSELF. WHEN HAVING MY OIL CHANGED THE GARAGE NOTED EXTREME ROOT ON THE FRONT DRIVERS AND PASSENGER FLOOR BOARDS. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD SEE THE INTERIOR CARPETING THAT WOULD ALLOW EXHAUST FUMES TO LEAK INTO THE VEHICLE. *TR
I BROUGHT MY CAR TO BE SERVICED AT GLICK NISSAN, THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT SAID THAT THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES OF THE FLOOR UNDER PASSENGER AND DRIVER SEATS ARE RUSTED OUT. I BROUGHT MY CAR FOR A SECOND OPINION FROM ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HIS REPORT SAID THE RUST IS SEVERE AND IN 6 MONTHS MY CAR WILL BE WORTH NOTHING! UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I FIND THAT THOUSANDS OF OTHER NISSAN CUSTOMERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM DUE TO A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT USED BY NISSAN. I FILED A CLAIM WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, THEY ARE CLAIMING ZERO RESPONSIBILITY, LABELING THE ISSUE AS AN "ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN" AND WILL IN NO WAY ASSIST WITH REPAIRS. NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
I NOTICED A LOOSE PIECE OF HANGING METAL FROM UNDERNEATH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND QUICKLY FOUND THAT APPROXIMATELY AN 8" X 20" FLOORBOARD SECTION BEHIND THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND CRUMBLED TO THE GROUND UPON TOUCHING IT. THE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE IS 135,000 MILES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND NISSAN NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. IT IS EXPECTED THIS WOULD BE AN ISSUE 40 YEARS AGO, BUT NOT WITH TODAY'S CARS. *TR
IT WAS NOTICED DURING INSPECTION THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARDS WERE STARTING TO PEEL AWAY. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM AND THEY DID NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR POOR ENGINEERING AND MATERIALS OF THE VEHICLE. THEY SHOULD MAKE GOOD ON THE PROBLEM BUT THEY SAID BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SERVICE HISTORY , THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, IT HAD TO MANY MILES. ALL REASONS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH POOR MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM THEY SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS A LOW MILEAGE GARAGED 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA WHICH IS IN PERFECT CONDITION EXCEPT THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARDS ARE ROTTED OUT SO THAT YOU CAN STEP THROUGH. VEHICLE HAS BEEN GARAGED AND METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED WITH FRESH WATER CLEANING OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE WHEN WASHED AND ESPECIALLY IN THE SPRING. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD WITH POTENTIAL FOR INJURY STEPPING THROUGH AND POSSIBLE DEATH FROM EXHAUST FUMES CAUSING UNCONSCIOUSNESS WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS VEHICLE DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. I HAD MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA AT MY LOCAL MECHANIC TO HAVE SOME RATTLING UNDERNEATH MY CAR LOOKED AT. THERE WAS A LOOSE HEAT SHIELD THAT THE MECHANIC FIXED AND HE ALSO NOTIFIED ME THAT THERE WERE LARGE AREAS OF RUST ALONG BOTH FLOORBOARDS. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND WASHED IN THE WINTER. THE LAST TIME THE CAR WAS AT THERE MECHANIC, THERE WAS NO RUST EVIDENT. UNFORTUNATELY MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD LIKE NISSAN TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR
TODAY WHILE PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE ON MY GIRLFRIENDS 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA I NOTICED A LARGE HOLE IN THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. THERE IS A LARGE RUSTED OUT HOLE, ONLY ON ONE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE THAT GOES COMPLETELY THROUGH TO THE INSIDE. IN EXACTLY THE SAME PLACE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE CAR THERE IS NO RUST AT ALL. THIS CAR IS WASHED REGULARLY, AND HAS NO RUST ON THE PAINTWORK ANYWHERE. UPON LOOKING IT UP ON THE INTERNET THERE APPEARS TO BE MANY MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE, AND NISSAN IS TRYING TO COVER IT UP AND NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF PARTS THAT ARE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE. AFTER JACKING UP MY MOTHER'S CAR FOR AN OIL CHANGE, WHILE I WAS PLACING JACK STANDS BEHIND THE FRONT WHEELS IN THE APPROPRIATE JACKING POINTS, I NOTICED THAT THE FLOOR PANELS LOOKED SWOLLEN UNDERNEATH THE RUST PROOFING MATERIAL. I BEGAN TO POKE AT IT WITH MY FINGER, AND MY FINGER PUSHED THROUGH THE RUST PROOFING AND ALL KINDS OF SEVERELY RUSTED METAL BEGAN TO FALL OUT ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. THE STEEL FLOOR PANEL, HAD BASICALLY TURNED TO RUSTED DUST. I WAS ABLE TO PUSH MY FINGER UP THROUGH THE FLOOR PANEL UNTIL I COULD FEEL THE BOTTOM OF THE CARPET. NOTICING NO OTHER RUST ANYWHERE ELSE NEAR BY, I FIGURED IT HAD TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, SO I DECIDED TO CHECK THE DRIVER'S SIDE SAME LOCATION, AND SURE ENOUGH, WAS ABLE TO PUSH MY FINGER THROUGH THE RUST PROOFING AND THROUGH ROTTED STEEL LIKE IT WAS NOTHING. MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S HAS 88,500 MILES ON IT. IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, EXCEPT FOR THE FLOOR PANS UNDER THE VEHICLE (DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES) THAT ARE RUSTING THROUGH. IT IS APPARENT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THESE VEHICLES AND NISSAN HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. I NEED THIS FIXED, AS THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR 2 REASONS: STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY AND FUMES ENTERING VEHICLE. I WAS INFORMED BY MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER THAT THE ONLY PROPER REPAIR IS TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE FLOOR PAN METAL. THE ESTIMATE FOR THIS WAS AROUND $2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A TRADE-IN AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FLOOR BOARDS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WERE RUSTED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND THEY WOULD NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED HIM TO CONTACT THE DEALERS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89000.

AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED THAT IT WAS RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE CARPET INSIDE THE CAR. SIX MONTHS AGO WHEN I WAS WORKING ON MY CAR THERE WAS NOT RUST AT ALL. I TAKE CARE OF MY CAR AND INSPECT THE CAR FOR ANY PROBLEMS. THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS BY NISSAN AND THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED. AFTER RESEARCHING I FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 02 - 05 ALTIMAS AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE RUST SPOTS UNDER THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS, UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED RUST OVER THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THEY COULD PROVIDE NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,903.
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA SL AND TOOK MY CAR INTO CONICELLI NISSAN BACK IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR FOR AN ORDER CHANGE AND SOMETHING ELSE MINOR. CONICELLI NISSAN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE FLOOR PAN WAS RUSTED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT. I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE BODY SHOP OF CONICELLI WHICH I DID AND THEY IN TURN TOLD ME THAT THEY CAN NOT DO THE REPAIR BECAUSE OF THE RUST AND THEY DIDN'T WANT TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABILITY FOR IT AND PERHAPS RISK A LAW SUIT FURTHER DOWN THE LINE. MY COMPLAINT IS THE CAR IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD WITH 60,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO DIFFERENT BODY SHOPS AND THEY ARE AMAZED THAT THE FLOOR PAN HAS RUSTED ALREADY BEING THAT THE CAR IS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD AND IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I PURCHASED MY CAR IN JANUARY OF 2006 USED WITH ABOUT 3,800 MILES. I'VE TAKEN MY VEHICLE SEVERAL TIME TO NISSAN DEALER FOR MY 15,000 MILE SERVICE AND ALSO THEY REPLACE MY SUSPENSION ON A RECALL. I DISCOVERED TODAY THAT MY FRONT PASSENGER FLOORBOARD IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT, I MEAN IF IT WASN'T FOR THE INTERIOR CARPET I COULD PUT MY WHOLE ARM DOWN IN THE HOLE. I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THAT MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA IS RUSTING UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE AND ALSO UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE. UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE THE RUSTING IS WORSE, I CAN JUST PEEL OFF THE THE RUSTING AREA WITH MY BARE HANDS. I KNOW THAT THIS TYPE IS PROBLEM IS COMMON WITH THESE VEHICLES, I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL PICTURES PUBLISHED BY OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS ON THE INTERNET. MY CAR HAS 86000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS 6 YEARS OLD. I DID NOT EXPECT SUCH A SERIOUS DEFECT ON A RELATIVELY YOUNG CAR, WHICH WAS GARAGED A WELL CARED FOR EVER SINCE A BOUGHT IT NEW. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE FLOOR BOARDS ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WERE ROTTEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE $440 PER SIDE IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE FLOOR BOARDS AND THEY WERE OUT SOURCING THE REPAIRS TO A BODY SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WILL REPLACE THE FLOOR BOARDS AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE FOR $600. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
WHILE HAVING THE OIL CHANGED IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE OWNER'S ATTENTION THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT FLOORBOARD WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A BODY SHOP WHERE THEY ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER BECAUSE THERE WAS NO OTHER RUST ON THE CAR AND THE EXTENT OF PERFORATION WAS SO SEVERE THE BODY SHOP SAID THERE MUST BE SOME PROBLEM WITH THE WAY THE CAR WAS ASSEMBLED. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WHERE THE WARRANTY REPRESENTATIVE LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND DENIED ANY WARRANTY SUPPORT OR ASSISTANCE WITH GETTING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO A REPUTABLE BODY SHOP WHERE THE CAR WAS REPAIRED FOR $600.00. THE BODY SHOP INFORMED ME THAT THE RUST HAD STARTED ON THE INSIDE AND RUSTED THROUGH FROM THE TOP. AFTER REPAIRS, THE OWNER SAW THAT SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME...

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR A STATE INSPECTION WHEN SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A VERY LARGE HOLE IN THE FRAME UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE HOLE WAS THE RESULT OF SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED. A COMPLAINT WAS ALSO FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000. UPDATED 11/22/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $400 WITH NO ASSISSTANCE. DURING A ROUTINE BRAKE INSPECTION IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTTENTION THE FLOORBOARDS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE (FRONT SEAT) HAVE CORRODED TO THE POINT WHERE A FINGER COULD PUNCH THROUGH THE FLOOR. THE DAMAGE IS ISOLATED AND APPEARS TO BE FROM A FAULTY DRAIN SYSTEM FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR OVER AN HOUR WITH THE AIR RUNNING, THERE IS NO DRAINING ON THE FLOOR OF MY GARAGE.
