PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD ROTTED OUT FROM RUST IN A WELL MAINTAINED CAR. NO OTHER SIGNS OF DAMAGING RUST ARE PRESENT.
JUST FOUND OUT MY CAR'S FLOOR BOARDS ARE RUSTED THROUGH. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SAW THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALTIMA'S FROM 2002-2006. IT WAS NOT CAUGHT BY MY OIL CHANGE PEOPLE, AND ONLY CAME UP TODAY AS I WAS GETTING IT APPROVED FOR A SALE. THIS REPAIR TOTALS THE CAR, WHICH OBVIOUSLY PUT A FINANCIAL HARDSHIP ON ME.
RUSTING FLOORBOARDS
FLOOR BOARD DRIVERS SIDE IS RUSTING OUT.
VEHICLE HAS EXTENSIVE RUST UNDER FLOORBOARDS UNDER DRIVER'S SEAT. I READ ABOUT OTHER ALTIMAS FROM THIS YEAR HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR BY TAKING PICTURES WITH MY CELL PHONE UNDER THE CAR. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED AT A NISSAN DEALER SERVICE CENTER ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE, BUT I BELIEVE THE CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN UP ON A LIFT, AND THE NISSAN SERVICE PEOPLE DID NOT ADVISE ME THERE WAS RUST ON THE UNDERSIDE.
RUSTED FLOOR PANEL IN THE FRONT PART OF THE CAR GOING ALL THE WAY THROUGH SO THERE IS A HOLE. DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE BOTH AFFECTED.
AFTER PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE I NOTICED THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR PANS WERE RUSTED ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION THERE IS A HOLE THROUGH THE FLOOR PAN INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. I ASKED NISSAN TO FIX IT OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY DUE TO THIS BEING A COMMON ISSUE AMONG SEVERAL OTHER NISSAN ALTIMAS BETWEEN 2002 - 2007. NISSAN OF AMERICA SAID THEY WOULD NOT PAY TO FIX IT. I AM HOPING YOU (NHTSA) CAN HELP IN THIS MATTER.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. I FOUND OUT ON LINE , THAT THERE IS AN INFERIOR DESIGN FLAW WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS,THAT INVOLVES WATER ACCUMULATION AND SEVERE RUSTING CLEAR THRU BOTH THE INNER AND LOWER FLOOR BOARDS, ON MOST 2002 TO 2006 NISSAN'S. I CHECKED MY VEHICLE AND FOUND ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE,I HAVE A 6 TO 8 INCH HOLE CLEAR THRU BOTH THE INNER AND LOWER FLOOR BOARDS. THIS CONDITION IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS IN THAT IN ADDITION TO SOMEONE POSSIBLY FALLING THRU THE HOLE , ENGINE EXHAUST CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES AS WELL AS WATER CAN ENTER THE VEHICLE. THERE IS ALSO THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE WIRING THAT CAN CAUSE A FIRE AND RESULT IN DEATH. FLOOR BOARDS ROTTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
CAR WAS IN SHOP FOR FRONT END SUSPENSION AND TECHNICIAN POINTED OUT RUST HOLES UNDER BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SEATS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE BODY, AND WAS LOOKING TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL. COULD CAUSE POTENTIAL DANGEROUS SITUATION IF OBJECT IN ROAD IS HIT AND COMES UP UNDER THE UNDERCARRIAGE.
I AM PLACING A COMPLAINT AGAINST NISSAN MOTOR COMPANY FOR FAULTY FLOORING IN THEIR ALTIMA MODELS. I TRIED TO HAVE OUR CAR A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA INSPECTED TODAY BUT IT FAILED DO TO RUSTING FLOORS UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER FEET SECTION. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE NOW THAT NBC NEWS HAS BROKE THE STORY ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN ONE OF THE BROAD CAST. NISSAN SHOULD NOT BE LET OFF THE HOOK WITH THIS ISSUE SO I'M WRITING TO YOU IN HOPES THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN . THIS COMPANY SCREWED UP NOW PEOPLE SUCH AS MY FAMILY ARE LEFT WONDERING HOW TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN. PLEASE DO SOMETHING !!!
WHILE ENTERING THE VEHICLE MY HUSBAND FELT THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR COLLAPSES AT WHICH TIME HE INSPECTED THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED A LARGE RUSTED THROUGH AREA UNDER THE PASSENGERS SIDE. DUE TO THE ADVANCE RUST AND ROT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD OF THE VEHICLE I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY AS WELL AS VAPORS COULD ENTER THE PASSENGERS COMPARTMENT THROUGH THE COMPROMISED PASSENGERS SIDE FLOORBOARD. *TR

I ALREADY PAID FOR RUSTED OUT PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PANS AND UNDER. ALMOST $500.00. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW IN CERTAIN MODELS BECAUSE OF TWO HOLES YOU CAN VISIBLY SEE UNDER THE CAR ON BOTH SIDES. DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DESIGNED IT LIKE THAT BECAUSE WHAT'S HAPPENING IS MOISTURE GOES UP IN THERE AND FLOWS OVER TO THE SIDES OF THE CAR UNDER THE DOORS AND RUSTS. MY CAR AS NOT BEEN RUN IN THE SALT AT ALL AND I WAS TOLD IT WASN'T NECESSARILY SALT BUT JUST WATER THAT SETTLES AND SITS BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN FLAW, WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN CHANGED. I THINK THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS AND ARE WAITING FOR PEOPLE TO GET RID OF THEIR CARS SO IF THEY ARE ORDERED TO DO A RECALL, THE NUMBERS WOULD BE LOWER. WE ARE THE SECOND OWNER OF THE CAR, A FAMILY MEMBER WAS THE FIRST AND BOUGHT IT NEW FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. ONE DAY IN OCTOBER 2014 MY HUSBAND GOT IN THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SAID IT FELT SQUISHY. HE STUCK HIS HAND UNDER AND COULD FEEL ROT. WE DROVE THE 2.1 MILES HOME AND THEN HE LOOKED. THAT IS WHEN HE DISCOVERED A HOLE AT LEAST 9 INCHES IN THE FLOOR. I ASKED THE PREVIOUS OWNER IF ANYTHING EVER HAPPENED THAT WOULD CAUSE THAT AND HE SAID SO IT WAS NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE DEALER WHO DID ALL THE MAINTENANCE WORK NEVER MENTIONED SEEING A RUST SPOT. THE FLOORBOARD UNDER THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE IS ROTTED OUT, CENTERED AROUND THE DRAIN PLUGS. THE LARGER HOLE ON THE DRIVER SIDE IS 6 INCHES BY 12 INCHES AND STILL EXPANDING. THIS DESIGN FLAW HAS BEEN REPORTED BY THOUSANDS OF OTHER ALTIMA OWNERS WITH SIMILAR-AGE CARS. THE REST OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS FINE. *TR

DUE TO THE MULTIPLE ISSUE IN THE 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMAS I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE VEHICLE. AT THE VERY LEAST NISSAN SHOULD PROVIDE A GOODWILL RECALL AND STOP TRYING TO PUSH THE BLAME ON OTHER ISSUES. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA FOR MY SON IN MARCH OF 2008 BECAUSE HE WAS LEARNING HOW TO DRIVE FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 12,561 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME AND WE REALLY GOT A GOOD DEAL ON THE CAR. MY SON HAS BEEN THE ONLY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE FROM THE FIRST DAY WE BOUGHT IT, AND NOW HE USES IT AT SCHOOL DOWN IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR FOR HIM AND HE IS REALLY HAPPY WITH IT. HE TAKES EXTREMELY GOOD CARE OF THE CAR, MAKING NECESSARY REPAIRS AS THEY COME UP ALONG WITH THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. WITH ONLY 75,522 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WE FIGURED THE CAR WOULD PROBABLY LAST AT LEAST ANOTHER 50,000 MILES IF NOT MORE. WELL, IT WOULD LAST THAT LONG IF THE FLOOR BOARDS ON THE VEHICLE WEREN'T LITERALLY FALLING OUT FROM UNDER HIM....

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.

AFTER HEARING ON THE TODAY SHOW THIS MORNING COMPLAINTS AGAINST NISSAN REGARDING UNDER CARRIAGE RUST I THOUGHT I WOULD FILE A COMPLAINT AS WELL. IN APPROX. 2012 WHILE WALKING TOWARDS MY CAR I NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY PASSENGER SIDE. UNDER FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED SEVERE RUSTING AND IT HAD ACTUALLY RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH THE FLOOR BOARD. THE ONLY THING HOLDING MY FEET IN THE CAR WAS THE CARPET. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED NISSAN AND WAS TOLD OH WELL SO SAD NOT GONNA HELP ME BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I HAD PRETTY MUCH ALWAYS HAD THE CAR SERVICED REGULARLY AT UFTRING NISSAN IN PEORIA ILLINOIS. THIS WAS NEVER MENTIONED IN THE 4 YEARS PRIOR TO ME IN THE MANY TRIPS I MADE FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGES AND SEVERAL STRUT REPAIRS ON THIS CAR. YES I HAVE HAD STRUT ISSUES WITH THIS CAR FROM DAY...

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FLOORBOARDS WERE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENTIRE FLOORBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

THE ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE RUST SPREAD TO OTHER PARTS, LIKE THE FRAME AND A HOLE DEVELOPED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

AFTER SEEING A REPORT ON THE NEWS THIS MORNING THAT NISSAN ALTIMAS ARE HAVING SYSTEMATIC ISSUES WITH RUSTING UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS, I LOOKED UNDER MY 2005 ALTIMA, AND CAN SEE VISIBLE RUSTING UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED FUMES IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED CORROSION AND HOLES ON THE FLOORBOARDS OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FLOORBOARDS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.

THE BOTTOM OF MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA IS RUSTING THROUGH TO THE FLOOR BOARDS. THERE IS ABOUT A 10 INCH ROUND AREA ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE THERE IS EXCESSIVE RUST. I AM WONDERING IF IT IS A DEFECT AS I EVEN HAD RUST PROOFING DONE AT THE TIME THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. A FEW YEARS AGO I WAS ALERTED BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE PASSENGER FLOOR BOARDS WERE RUSTING AT AN ADVANCED RATE. MY MECHANIC SAID THE REST OF THE CAR WAS IN GREAT SHAPE AND IT WAS A SHAME THE FLOOR WAS FAILING PREMATURELY. HE RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THERE WAS A SERVICE RECALL OR A SERVICE BULLETIN. I STOPPED BY THE DEALERSHIP ON A SATURDAY AND THE SERVICE WRITER LOOKED AT THE FLOOR OF MY CAR AND SAID THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN SUCH A THING ON ANY NISSAN. HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO AND RECOMMENDED WE CONTACT NISSAN. WE CONTACT NISSAN AND NEVER EVEN GOT A RESPONSE. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5. 128,000 MILES ON IT, COUPLE OF WEEKS BACK I FOUND OUT THE FLOOR BOARDS ARE COMPLETED ROTTED OUT ON BOTH SIDES, SO BAD THAT ONE CAN STICK THEIR HANDS IN AND FEEL MY CARPET. THE MECHANICS WERE SO SURPRISED HOW BAD THEY WERE AND THIS WAS THE ONLY PART OF THE BASE WHICH WAS ROTTEN. NOW MY CAR IS JUNK AND I WONT EVEN TAKE OR RESELL MY CAR. FOLLOWING A ROUTINE SERVICE APPOINTMENT I WAS TOLD THAT THE FLOOR ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT AND THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT IS A ONE OWNER CAR AND I AM A 75 YEAR OLD FEMALE. THE CAR HAD OUTSTANDING CARE. IT WAS NOT GARAGED THROUGHOUT ITS LIFETIME BUT IT DID GET EXCELLENT CARE.
