2016 KIA SORENTO Engine Problems

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that after the vehicle was started, the check engine warning light illuminated, with an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced due to a lack of engine oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact stated that the previous oil change was approximately three weeks before the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,990.

Was driving the vehicle down the highway going about 65mph. Vehicle went into limp mode, check engine light came on and started flashing. There was no warning signs prior to this! Had the vehicle towed home and threw a code reader on it, to find the code P1326 come up. Says it's a code for knock sensor. After reading other forums found that most likely I will need to replace the engine. I have only had this vehicle for 2 months!! It is the same 2.4L engine that has been recalled on several other Kia vehicle but not mine. I bought this vehicle to have a reliable vehicle for my family and now I will be out more money!

Engine rapidly burns and leaks motor oil. Can lose more that a quart a week in an engine that holds 5 quarts and has about 60k miles. Metal fragments found in every oil change while consistently topping off between each change.

While driving on the parkway, the vehicle would not accelerate and would stall. After pulling over, vehicle would restart but repeated the pattern. Made it to Advanced Auto who ran codes and had the camshaft modulator changed. Vehicle made it back onto parkway. 40 miles from home, the vehicle began to shake, loose power, made loud sound and died. Towed home. Mechanic said out of oil but I had oil changed less than 1000 miles ago when vehicle purchased. New codes showed crankshaft position sensor. Changed part. Replaced starter and a new battery. Still nothing. Stating probable engine failure. I've only owned this vehicle for 2 months!

The engine seized while driving. No check engine light turned on or oil pressure light illuminated prior to seizure. This happened on 5/11/2023. I had the oil changed on 4/20/2023 and regularly checked the oil levels because of previous oil consumption issues. Previously, I completed oil changed on 6/17/22, 7/27/22, and brought it to a KIA dealership on 8/1/22 for oil consumption issues. They completed a valve gasket cover replacement at that time which I paid out of pocket. The vehicle continued to have oil consumption issues after that repair and which eventually lead to the engine failure. Kia refused to replace the engine under warranty or recall and it cost me $7,494 to replace the engine at the dealership.

Engine failed due to apparent head gasket leak. Incident happened on [XXX] near Richmond, Kentucky. Failure of engine caused loss of speed and power. Fortunately, an exit was available to get the car off the road quickly. We had to tow the car home and replace the engine at a cost of $8,000. Kia has had to recall 4 cylinder engines for this year. I change my oil regularly and driving my car started knocking and I let a mechanic checked it and he said the engine was blown and I didn't understand why that happened. it was not out of oil and I still don't know why it happened

Engine lost power while driving at normal speed(45 mph). Car will not start after stalling after coming to stop. This is after three years of massive oil usage and dozens of spark plug failures. Dealer and manufacturer were made aware of situation. They couldn't or wouldn't replace engine unless it completely failed or caught fire. Now that it has failed, it is beyond the "warranty". Researching this model year, it is obvious they have an issue that needs to be addressed.

Engine overheating, no warning lights. Changed thermostat, no change, new radiator- some improvement but still getting hot. Oil and coolant levels were fine. Got it tested and they told us we needed a new engine. We just had purchased the car and we just barely missed it being covered under warranty. This leading us to search forums for others that have had this issue with Kia Sorento 3.3 engine. Turns out there are quite a a few due to the head bolts coming loose, leaking head gasket, and ultimately ruining the engine. We are paying for a vehicle that is not drivable due to faulty parts by design. We were not made aware of this issue or that it may need to be repaired otherwise we would have steered clear of KIA. After engine failure come to find out that there is a little over three quarts of oil missing with no leak and no warning light came up on the dash, which if it had it would have saved me from having this happened where they now want me to replace the engine. My engine made a loud knocking sound and started shaking I tried to start after car was cut off but noise was worse. I then called for roadside assistance from my insurance policy. My 100,00 mile warranty is not in effect. My car was towed to my home at an out of pocket cost of$269.07 on May 20, 2024 I have not driven the car since and have been carless. I have spent approximately $1200 dollars on car rentals. I had a mechanic come by my house and he said it sounded like I would need a new engine. I checked on the price and it is out of my reach. I am retired senior citizen and really don't have $2000-$3000 to purchase an engine. I have done all recalls as, my car does not have a trailer hitch. What can be done to help.

I was driving to work going about 40 and out of nowhere my 2016 Kia Sorento started slowing down. I could not accelerate and no warning lights came on. There was a sudden loss of power.The car slowed to a stop near a busy intersection. I was in the road and almost hit by multiple cars. I could not start it again. My 2016 kia Sorento has had oil consumption issues, I have got regularly services, i have had a tune-up, fixed leaky valves and still needed to add oil to my car 3 weeks after an oil change. 4/28/2024 I was traveling down a busy highway and suddenly my car shut off at 65 mph, that could have killed others and myself had I not been in the far right lane. My mechanic said my engine was gone. Now I am stuck with a payment for a car I do not even have.

Cylinder head gasket of my 2016 Kia Sorento is going bad due to a manufacturing issue. One of Kia representatives informed me of this issue and created a case. She stated that the company would make sure that the head gasket sealants were my issue by a mechanic at the dealer, and my car would be covered by KIA. Going 70 on the interstate luckily I was in the right hand lane when my motor just died!now my motor is fried knocking had it at the shop two weeks prior for oil problems said it was the valve head gasket took it to get fixed now a few weeks later I now longer have a warranty I'm 5 thousand Over it I still owe money for something I have to put more money into!

i was driving and the car stopped working, was able to steer it and get it stopped in a safe spot. Would not start again. Towed to the local Kia dealership where I bought the car and they said the battery died. Replaced the battery, car still doesn't start. They take another look and say actually the engine is completely dead because there was not oil. There was no light on saying oil was low and I had been getting regular oil changes through the same shop. They tell me it needs a new engine.

6/23 the oil light started to flickering, in particular to coming to a stop or turning. This was even after just having an oil change the month before. I checked the oil & it was low already so, of course I put a couple quarts in. I continued to monitor my oil as this was happening. I did not see any oil leaking onto our driveway or from anywhere. I called our mechanic to schedule an appointment. By appointment day 7/17/23, the engine light came on. Mechanic could not perform a diagnostic until a software update was done by Kia. 8/16/23 Kia does software updates & takes care of any recalls. I returned to our mechanic 8/21/23 so he could now do the diagnostic test & make repairs. He replaced the intake manifold, valve cover gasket & changed the oil with new filter. 9/23/23 the oil light starts flickering again...

Check engine coming on intermittently. Took to Kia dealership for service and diagnosis. Was told the code came up for “Camshaft timing issue” and the recommendation was to replace engine completely! Only 79,000 miles and regular service and maintenance has occurred over the 7 years I’ve had the car. Engine could just cut out at any time.

I purchased this vehicle in 2021, with about 82k miles on it. No problems were reported to me at that time and I did purchase the vehicle from an auto dealer. I have driven the vehicle approx. 23k miles; my current mileage is 105k. That's an average of about 700 miles per month. Driving a 2016 Kia Sorento on I75 at 70 mph, the engine experienced total failure with no warning lights. Towed to local Kia dealer who has it today. Dealer said it had total engine failure and the rods were severely knocking. Dealer said there were multiple engine failure existing recalls with the 4 cylinder but none yet for 6 cylinder vehicles though Kia had multiple 6 cylinder failures.

On 4/14/24 I was turning the corner and my car cut off on me in the middle of the turn. I coasted to the nearest store. I took my vehicle into the Kia dealership here in Visalia, California. The first time I took my vehicle in, it was due to oil consumption. I was burning off over 1qt of oil every 700-1000 miles. This being a concern I asked what should I do next. When this happens the dealership recommends a fresh oil change by them, then they tag your oil cap, dip stick, and drian plug so its not to be tampered with. I was driving down the road in a 45. My car started to have no power. I no warning came on. Literally Cruising down the road it sounded like the motor blew. The engine gave out while driving on the highway going 65-70 mph on the left lane ,vehicle started shaking and slowing down really loud cars started going around luckily I was able to get to the right breakdown lane as it stalled. I could have caused a major accident on the highway, I restarted the car it shakes as I drove it slowly to the exit at every light the car stalled when I stopped. Brought to the dealer they confirmed the engine is gone , no prior warning of any issue. Car isn’t even paid off til next month! They state only option is to put a new engine which is lots of money.

I have filed a complaint with the South Carolina Attorney General which is pending and spoke with KIA Consumer Affairs twice about the failure of the Knock Sensor device which has caused engine failure in my 2016 KIA Sorento. I was told by KIA Consumer Affairs that the Upgrade Knock Sensor Campaign was mailed to the first owner of the vehicle in 2018 and was not replaced. I bought the SUV in November 2019 from Carvana. On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, I was driving my vehicle to work. I have a 12 mile commute and take both highways and local roads. When I started driving, I noticed that the engine would make a knocking/rattling sound when I accelerated. While in the final mile of my commute, I stopped at a stoplight. When the light turned green and I applied my foot to the accelerator, the vehicle did not respond and dashboard lights for the oil, engine and battery all illuminated. Check engine light turned on. The crankshaft has given out and the mechanic confirmed it needs a new engine. Cylinders 2&4 are misfiring. It has a rough idle and does not accelerate. Many online forms confirm that this is a Kia problem and different years have had a recall. I can not drive my car due to the shaking of the car and the unknown of possible breaking down. After reading numerous other accounts of issues with this engine in this car I was concerned about continuing to drive the vehicle for fear of being stranded or the engine seizing while driving.

I was driving on an interstate coming down a mountain and my car stopped accelerating. The check engine light also began flashing. I glided along the interstate to the nearest exit. I had my car towed to a mechanic who told me my engine blew due to a defect in my engine.
