Many Jeep vehicles have gas blow back during refueling. This problem has existed for a number of years and Jeep has issued recalls. Please read the following: If each Jeep user spills .1 gallon during refueling and they refuel the Jeep 12 times per year they spill 1.2 gallons per year. This is a very low estimate. If there are 100,000 Jeeps experiencing this problem that is 120,000 gallons of gas per year. Does anyone at NHTSA care?

FUEL OVERFLOWS & DOESN'T SHUT OFF WHEN FULL! EVERY TIME WE PUT FUEL INTO THE CAR, IT WILL NOT ALLOW THE PUMP TO SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK BECOMES FULL-NO MATTER HOW SLOW ONE FILLS THE TANK, IT CREATES A FUEL BURP AND POURS GASOLINE OUT & DOWN THE VEHICLE. ALL OF US, INCLUDING OUR YOUNG DRIVER, NEED TO BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN AT A GAS STATION. VERY VERY UNSAFE COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS!
EVERY TIME I PUT FUEL INTO MY CAR THE FUEL CHECK VALVE DOES NOT SHUT OFF CREATING A FUEL BURP AND POURING GASOLINE DOWN THE FENDERS OF MY CAR. MULTIPLE TIMES I HAVE BEEN SPLASHED WITH GASOLINE MYSELF VERY UNSAFE I HAVE READ ON MULTIPLE FORUMS THAT MANY PEOPLE OF THE SAME CAR HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS
GASOLINE OVERFLOWS FROM GAS TANK WHEN ADDING ADDITIONAL GAS AT THE FUEL PUMP. THE FILLER/BREATHER TUBE ASSEMBLY AND GAS TANK WERE REPLACED BUT IT DIDN'T FIX THIS PROBLEM.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED, TROUBLE CODE FOR EVAP SYSTEM LEAK. I HAVE PURCHASED 9 GAS CAPS, INCLUDING MOST FROM THE DEALER. SMOKE TEST HAS BEEN PERFORMED, CANNOT LOCATE PROBLEM. ALSO, INTERIOR LIGHTS FLICKER OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING.
GASCAP FLASHING AND BINGING. HAVE PURCHASED 2 CAPS FOR LANDERS JEEP RESET THE ENGINE CODE AND IS STILL FLASHING AND BINGING. CAN SEE GAS VAPORS.

ALMOST EVERY TIME I FILL-UP, THERE IS A SPLASH-BACK FROM THE FUEL FILLER OPENING. THIS APPARENTLY IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE LIBERTY MODEL AMONG OTHERS. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL THAT WOULD PAY FOR IT. I THEN CONTACTED CHRYSLER WHO TOLD ME THAT MY SPECIFIC LIBERTY IS NOT PART OF ANY RECALL OR TSB SO THEY CANNOT HELP. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM POSES A HAZARD IF THE GAS WAS TO IGNITE. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON 26 FEBRUARY 2016.
EVER SINGLE TIME I FILL UP MY GAS TANK IT OVERFLOWS. THIS IS NOT ANYTHING NEW. THE MODEL OF MY CAR ONE YEAR AFTER HAS A FUEL TANK RECALL SO WHY ISN'T THERE ONE FOR THE 200 KJ JEEP LIBERTY.

I PURCHASED A CAR FROM U.S. AUTO SALES IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA ON JUNE 12TH 2015. THE EVENING I TOOK THE CAR HOME THE GAS GAUGE WAS NOT AT THE EMPTY MARK AND THE CAR SHUT OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THEM OF THIS AND THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT IT IS AN ONGOING CHRYSLER ISSUE AND TO NOT LET THE GAS TANK TO GET BELOW A QUARTER TANK. THEY PROCEEDED TO RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. 2 WEEKS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. SO I TOOK TO A LOCAL AUTO STORE TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTICS RUN AND WAS INFORMED THAT A WHEEL BEARING WAS NEEDED, A CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND A FUEL LINE BECAUSE AT A CERTAIN LEVEL THE GAS WILL NOT REACH THE ENGINE. TODAY IN SOUTH CAROLINA THE TEMPERATURE IS WELL OVER...
WHEN PUMPING GAS AND IT SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY GAS SPEWS OUT LIKE A VOLCANO FROM THE GAS TANK. IT'S SO BAD THAT THE GAS ATTENDANT HAS HAD TO COME OVER AND PUT ABSORBENT MATERIAL ON TOP OF THE GAS SPILL AND WE'VE HAD TO WASH DOWN OUR CAR SO IT WON'T EAT THE PAINT. I CONTACTED JEEP WHO TOLD ME THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE, BUT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH OTHER JEEP MODELS AND THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL ON THOSE MODELS. IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY NEED TO EXPAND THEIR RECALL TO INCLUDE THE 2007 JEEP LIBERTY'S THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK THE SENSOR THAT INDICATES THE TANK IS FULL IS DEFECTIVE. WHEN IT SHUTS OFF THE GAS PUMP, GAS SPEWS OUT OF THE TANK HEAVILY, GETTING ON AUTO, GROUND AND PERSON. I SPOKE TO CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS DEFECT BUT HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THEY FURTHER ADVISED THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIR EXPENSES IF I CHOOSE TO HAVE THE TANK REPLACED. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD FIX. THE JEEP LIBERTY HAS POORLY DESIGNED GAS TANKS, THEY SPEW GAS UPON FILLING AND CATCH FIRE UPON REAR IMPACT. CHRYSLER SHOULD BE MADE TO CORRECT THESE ISSUES AND STOP OFFERING PATCHES, I. E. HITCHES THAT HELP PROTECT GAS TANKS IN REAR CONTACT/IMPACT UNDER 40 MPH, THAT DON'T PROTECT THE CONSUMER FROM SERIOUS BODILY HARM AND/OR DEATH. THESE RISK NEED TO ELIMINATED, NOT PACIFIED! *TR

I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS TO FIX THE PROBLEM HOWEVER I AM ON A WAITING LIST OF 250 PEOPLE AND THEY HAVE RUN OUT OF PARTS. IN THE MEANTIME I AM RIDING AROUND WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT. I WAS NOTIFIED OVER A YEAR AGO (APPROXIMATELY NOVEMBER 2013) BY MAIL AND WAS INFORMED I WOULD BE CONTACTED AGAIN WHEN PARTS WERE AVAILABLE.
