JEEP HARD TO START WHEN ENGINE IS COLD DUE TO FAULTY TIPM AND FUEL RELAY. JEEP WILL ATTEMPT TO START, BUT WILL NOT TURN OVER. JEEP LOSES THROTTLE AND DIES AT IDLE. *TR
IN JUNE 2012 MY VEHICLE BEGAN GIVING PROBLEMS STARTING AFTER SEVERAL DAYS BACK AND FORTH TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE NEEDS A PCM. THE PCM WAS ORDERED AND REPLACED BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. I WAS THEN TOLD THE TIPM HAD AN ISSUE. THE TIPM WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE WORKING AS FAR AS THE ISSUES STARTING BUT I KEPT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. MONTHS AND MOTHS WENT BY WITH ME HAVING THIS ISSUE UNTIL THEY PLACED A DEVICE ON MY VEHICLE TO RECORD WHAT'S HAPPENING. AFTER KEEPING MY VEHICLE FOR A WHOLE DAY TO REMOVE THE DEVICE, A WEEK LATER THEY SAID IT DID NOT RECORD ANYTHING BECAUSE IT WENT DEAD. WHILE DRIVING IN OUTERBANKS, NC. THE VEHICLE DECIDED TO SHUT THE 4X4 SYSTEM OFF AND LOWER SUSPENSION COMPLETELY, ALL WHILE DRIVING. MY NEW BORN SON, WIFE AND 4YR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE VEHICLE AND WE ARE STRANDED. PAID FOR TOWING AND AFTER TOWED THE VEHICLE GOES BACK TO NORMAL WITH NO MAINTENANCE. UPON RETURNING HOME VEHICLE RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE IN MOTION, WILL NOT START OR FUEL PUMP RANDOMLY RUNS AND NOW WAY TO SHUT OFF. DRIVING IN TO WORK AND COMPLETING A CORNER (VEHICLE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30MPH) WHEN ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING (ACCESSORIES STAYED ON). NO WARNING LIGHTS PREVIOUS TO THE INCIDENT OR AFTER. LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. WAS ABLE TO MUSCLE CAR AROUND THE CORNER AND COASTED TO A STOP. VEHICLE IS PUSH BUTTON START SO I PUSHED BUTTON TO TURN ACCESSORIES OFF, THEN ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR. RESTART WORKED WITH NO WARNING/PROBLEM LIGHTS. COMPLETED DRIVE IN TO WORK WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. CALLED DEALER (ZIEGLER KALAMAZOO) AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND GOT SOONEST AVAILABLE SERVICE APPOINTMENT (ONE WEEK FROM DAY INCIDENT OCCURRED). BROUGHT TO DEALER'S ATTENTION AT TIME OF SERVICE - DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE GRINDING NOISE. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS, VEHICLE BEGAN TAKING MORE THAN 1 ATTEMPT TO TURN ENGINE OVER (SOMETIMES UP TO 4-5 ATTEMPTS), INCLUDING PROLONGED ENGAGEMENT OF STARTER MOTOR. IF MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS, NOTICED RICH FUEL SMELL. MENTIONED TO DEALER AT TIME OF NEXT SCHEDULED SERVICE - DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE STARTING PROBLEMS OVER THE COURSE OF 2 DAYS IN THEIR CARE. WHEN CRANKING MY VEHICLE IT BEGINS TO STALL AND SOUNDS AS IF IT IS FLOODING. IT CONTINUES TO DO THIS UNTIL I CAN GET IT TO TURN OFF. THE STALLING IS CONTINUOUS. WHEN I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM I AM EXPERIENCING IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE, OR TIPM. THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS I'M INCURRING WITH STARTING MY VEHICLE AND IT'S STALLING. WHILE RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I LEARNED THAT THE TIPM CAN "PREVENT THE FUEL PUMP FROM SHUTTING OFF PROPERLY, CAUSE HEADLIGHTS AND TAILLIGHTS TO SHUT OFF, AND CAN CAUSE RANDOM AND UNCONTROLLABLE ACTIVITY OF THE HORN, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, ALARM SYSTEM, DOOR LOCKS, AND AIRBAGS." *TR
VEHICLE WILL NOT START. I AM TOLD IT IS RELATED TO A TIPM FAILURE. 1300 DOLLARS TO FIX ON A CAR THAT IS OUT OF WARRANTY WITH LESS THAN 20K MILES. THE PART IS ALSO OK BACK ORDER FOR OVER A MONTH. I AM TOLD THERE COULD BE RANDOM DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAGS ALSO. *TR

DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON, WHILE MAKING A TURN IN RESIDENTIAL AREA, THE ENGINE CUT OFF AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP. THE RADIO, INSTRUMENT PANEL AND A/C WERE ALL STILL ON, SO DID NOT IMMEDIATELY REALIZE THE ENGINE WAS OFF. WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER PUTTING VEHICLE INTO PARK. FORTUNATELY, NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE BEHIND ME OR COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. DEALER NOT ABLE TO FIND WHAT WAS WRONG SINCE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE IT, SO WAS NOT ABLE TO REPAIR PROBLEM. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT MY TIPM IS BAD. MY VEHICLE STARTED EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH STARTING AND STALLING IN JANUARY OF 2014 (@ JUST OVER 30K MILES). INITIALLY I DID NOT THINK MUCH OF THE PROBLEM AS IT WAS IN JANUARY AND COLD HERE IN COLORADO. THE PROBLEM MILDLY CONTINUED IN FEB AND MARCH... FAST FORWARD TO JULY 2014 AND THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE PREVALENT. I FINALLY HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM (TOMORROW - 28AUGUST2014). IT IS NOW A DAILY OCCURRENCE THAT MY VEHICLE WILL NOT START WITHOUT MANY ATTEMPTS AND ONCE IT DOES START, IT STALLS AND THE ENGINE TURNS OFF. *TR

WHEN THE VEHICLE REACHED 38,902 MILES, AND AFTER THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE RECURRENT THE DEALERSHIP HAD ME TO REPLACE MY KEY FOB BATTERY AND UPDATE THE SOFTWARE IN MY PCM & WCM. I HAVE A 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH APPROXIMATELY 32K MILES. I BEGAN SEEING AN ISSUE SEVERAL WEEKS AGO WHERE THE ENGINE WOULD CRANK BUT WOULDN'T START (USING PUSH BUTTON STARTER). EVENTUALLY IT WOULD START. OVER THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS THE PROBLEM HAS INTERMITTENTLY REAPPEARED BUT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE AS IT'S TAKING LONGER TO START ONCE THE ISSUE IS SEEN. I BEGAN HAVING DIFFICULTIES STARTING MY VEHICLE ABOUT A WEEK AGO, THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUALLY TURN OVER WITHOUT ACTUALLY STARTING (PUSH BUTTON START). EACH TIME I WOULD HAVE TO PRESS THE START BUTTON MULTIPLE TIMES AND LET THE VEHICLE CYCLE THROUGH MULTIPLE FAILED ATTEMPTS UNTIL THE ENGINE WOULD FINALLY START. HOWEVER, THIS MORNING, AFTER CYCLING THROUGH MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS AND GETTING THE VEHICLE TO START, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. WENT DIRECTLY TO EASTSIDE CHRYSLER JEEP AND THEY REPAIRED IT FOR ME. IT TOOK A DAY BUT COST ME 1,310.00. I SEE THERE ARE QUITE A FEW CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. MY CAR'S WARRANTY WAS STILL IN EFFECT, BUT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HONOR IT. SAYING IT WAS A SECOND OWNER VEHICLE. SORRY, I BOUGHT THE WARRANTY WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HONORED. NOW KNOWING WHAT I KNOW NOW THAT IT IS A DEFECT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, I AM LUCKY I WASN'T STUCK OUT ON THE FREEWAY. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE THROUGHOUT THE DAY TO START MY 2011 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE AND IT WOULD NOT START, ONLY A CLICKING NOISE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND THE TIPM IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. OBVIOUSLY, MY CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND NOT UNDER WARRANTY NOW. THE PART ALONE IS OVER $900.00, WHICH SEEMS QUESTIONABLE THAT SOMETHING WOULD GO BAD SO QUICKLY ON A VEHICLE AND COST SO MUCH TO REPAIR. BESIDES THE COST, THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE, AND EVEN MORE SERIOUS WITH THE ENGINE CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE JEEP WOULD NOT START ON THE FIRST TRY. IT EITHER CRANKS AND CRANKS AND NEVER TURNS OVER, OR IT TURNS OVER BUT NEVER REACHES A GOOD IDLE STATE AND JUST SHUTS OFF. AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS, IT WOULD FINALLY START AND BE OK UNTIL THE NEXT TIME I LEAVE IT ALONE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD. I BELIEVE THE SYMPTOMS I AM EXPERIENCING ARE THE SAME AS THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTING A PROBLEM WITH THE TIPM, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A VERY PRICEY ITEM THAT JEEP (CHRYSLER) KNOWS IS FAULTY AND HAVE DONE NOTHING ABOUT. NOT TO MENTION THAT IT IS ALSO AN ITEM THAT IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER WITH A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AS WELL. *TR
WHEN TRYING TO START MY JEEP ON FRIDAY 7/25 I FOUND THAT WHEN I PUSH THE START BUTTON THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. IT WOULD ENGAGE AND ATTEMPT TO TURN OVER BUT WOULD NOT START. I TESTED THE BATTERY AND IT READ TO BE NORMAL AND UPON FURTHER REVIEW I FOUND MANY OTHER CONSUMERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY NOT START. THIS HAPPENS TO ME ABOUT ONCE A MONTH SINCE WE PURCHASED IT IN MARCH OF 2014. I'VE READ FROM OTHERS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE TIPM WHICH WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO NOT START OR COMPLETELY STALL OUT WHILE DRIVING WHICH DID OCCUR ONE TIME TO ME IN JUNE ON A TRIP FROM OHIO TO MARYLAND! *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND SUDDENLY STALLED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
TIPM COMPUTER BOARD/MODULE DEFECT...KNOWN DEFECT TO THE MANUFACTURER (POOR PART PRODUCT WITH HIGH CHANCE OF FAILURE). JEEP STALLED OUT ON ROAD SEVERAL TIMES WITH KIDS IN CAR...PART IS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER AND STILL NO RECALL FOR OWNERS. *TR
THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND THE TIPM ALSO. THERE IS NO CHARGING LIGHT IN THE DASH SO IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW THERE WERE A PROBLEM SINCE THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AND THE ENGINE STALL. AFTER THAT, THERE WERE NO LIGHT, NO POWER BRAKE AND THE CAR WON'T START ANYMORE. EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR ( WHICH IS COST 1000 EACH.) THE ALTERNATOR DO NOT CHARGE BECAUSE THE TIPM FAILED TOO. OVERALL, IT COST 2200$ TO REPAIR AND I LOST MY CAR FOR 4 WEEKS ! *TR

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN SIX MONTHS THAT I HAVE HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MY KEY FOB AFFECTING MY ENGINE. I AM AFRAID THIS MAY BE AN IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM BUT THE DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME IT'S THE KEY FOB BATTERY. THE FIRST TIME MY CAR WOULD NOT START AND THE ENGINE WAS DEAD. THEY REPLACED BOTH KEY FOBS 6 MONTHS AGO AND TOLD ME THEY WERE DEFECTIVE. THIS TIME WHEN I PUSHED THE BUTTON THE ENGINE MADE A SCREECHING RATTLING SOUND, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF. EVENTUALLY IT DID AND I TRIED IT AGAIN AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS TOWED 30 MILES TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THE KEY FOB BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN IF THEIR COMPUTER SHOWED THAT MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HE AGREED BUT TOLD...
I HAVE TRIED TO START MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES WITH JUST CONTINUOUS CRANKING. I CALLED TWO DIFFERENT JEEP DEALERSHIPS AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE. YESTERDAY, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AT 55 MPH WITH MY 5 MONTH OLD IN THE CAR AFTER DAYCARE- AND MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND I ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME!!!! VERY SCARY. I HAD TO SWERVE TO MISS THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE THE BRAKES AND CAR WERE NOT WORKING- JUST COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I FINALLY GOT IT STARTED AGAIN AND GOT TO A SAFE LOCATION. I THEN HAD IT TOWED. I DID SOME RESEARCH TO FIND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES AND CHRYSLER REFUSES TO DO A RECALL ON THIS. ARE THEY INSANE?!!! WE COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT....
VEHICLE DIES FROM NO REASONS, ALSO FAILS TO START AT TIMES. *TR
WHEN STARTED AND SHIFTED INTO "D" DRIVE MODE, CAR WOULD SELF ENGAGE IN MANUAL GEAR "4" AND THEN HAD NO TRACTION OR ACCELERATION, ONLY REVERSE. TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY DIED AND WOULD AUTOMATICALLY GO INTO MANUAL "4" GEAR ITSELF WHEN PUT INTO "D" DRIVE MODE FROM PARK OR WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS AND VERY SCARY. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER WHO WANTED $1,300 TO REPAIR FAULTY TIPM MODULE AND WOULD NOT COVER UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. CALLED CHRYSLER AND NEGOTIATED IT DOWN TO $100. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE CAR IS PUTTING ITSELF INTO THE WRONG GEAR WHILE MOVING AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OR MOVE IN DRIVE MODE. *TR

THE CONTACT MOVED OFF THE ROADWAY AND DISCOVERED THAT SMOKE WAS EMITTING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THERE HAD BEEN A FIRE NEAR THE AIR FILTER AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.

MY WIFE HAS HAD 3 SEPARATE ENCOUNTERS WHERE HER 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND HAS RANDOMLY POWERED DOWN, LOSING CAPABILITY TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE (NO BRAKES/STEERING) WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. BOUGHT A USED JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2011 W/ 19K MILES ON IT (IT WAS LEASED BEFORE). FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED WITH 30K MILES ON IT. VEHICLE WOULD TURN OVER A LITTLE BIT BUT WOULD NOT START. DEALERSHIP SAID FUEL PUMP WAS BAD, RUNNING AFTER VEHICLE TURNED OF THEN DIDN'T GET POWER WHEN TURNING IT ON. DEALERSHIP REPLACED FUEL PUMP, WENT TO PICK IT UP FROM DEALERSHIP AND IT WOULDN'T START.
